When he made his move, nobody could follow, and he rode to his 25th Tour de France stage victory and his fourth win of the 2026 race. Det er man sådan set heller ikke i Grønland, men deroppe diskuteres tilknytningen til Danmark mere, end det sker hernede sydpå. I 1933 var Norge og Danmark i strid om, hvilke af de to lande, der skulle have Grønland som koloni, eller om landet eventuelt skulle deles. Dengang blev sagen klaret ved den internationale domstol i Haag. Men hvad tænkte grønlænderne egentlig om det? Og hvordan har man siden tænkt om Grønlands vej mod suverænitet og den fortsatte tilknytning til Danmark? USA:s agerande i Venezuela är enligt utrikesministern inte förenligt med folkrätten. Hon menar att händelsen utgör ett farligt prejudikat, när den regelbaserade världsordningen utmanas.”Nu skulle jag säga att vi befinner oss vid ett vägskäl där vi måste bestämma om vi ska fortsätta stå upp för folkrätten, vilket jag tycker att vi ska göra. Eller om vi ska öppna upp för någonting annat som jag bedömer är mycket farligare, där det just blir de stora starka makterna som kan ta sig rätt på mindre länders bekostnad”, säger Maria Malmer Stenergard.USA:s anspråk på GrönlandUtrikesministern säger att de amerikanska hoten mot Grönland är mycket allvarliga. Tidigare har hon sagt att det gäller att ha is i magen när USA uttryckt att de vill ta kontroll över Grönland. Men nu säger hon att läget förändrats.“Nu är det inte längre bara ord från den amerikanska administrationen som är annorlunda jämfört med vad vi är vana vid. Vi ser också att de är beredda att snabbt agera. Det såg vi i Venezuela. Det innebär ju att man ska ta det de säger på allvar och agera för att utfallet ska bli i enlighet med vad som är våra intressen”.Men gör det att du ser på hoten på ett annat sätt idag än för ett år sedan med tanke på det som Trump har gjort i Venezuela? ”Jag ser det något annorlunda. Det är baserat på hur man hittills har agerat från den amerikanska administrationen. Jag sprang inte händelserna i förväg då. Jag gör inte det nu, men jag anpassar naturligtvis min politik och mitt agerande utifrån vad vi faktiskt ser”, säger Maria Malmer Stenergard (M). Utrikesministern medger att USA:s krav om Grönland gör Nato-samarbetet mer ansträngt. ”Det är så klart inte så här det ska låta i en försvarsallians”, säger hon. I en intervju med Donald Trump i veckan fick han frågan vilket som är hans högsta prioritet, Grönland eller att bevara Nato? Donald Trump svarar att ”Det kan bli ett val”, och att Nato i princip är värdelöst utan USA. Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) tycker att uttalandet är mycket olyckligt.”Vi vill ju bevara alliansen. Vi vill ha en stark försvarsallians i Nato”, säger hon, och fortsätter:”Det var därför som beslutet vid Haag-toppmötet i somras var så viktigt. Det innebär att europeiska länder och Kanada gör det som USA har bett oss om i otaliga administrationer. Vi ska ta större ansvar för vår egen säkerhet. Det är tråkigt att det har krävts en så tuff retorik från Trump för att vi verkligen ska ta tag i det här”, säger Maria Malmer Stenergard (M).Men om vi hamnar i ett läge där USA menar att det här blir ett val: Vi vill ha Grönland, annars lämnar vi Nato. Vad tänker du om det? ”Återigen är det här ett hypotetiskt scenario, tack och lov, fortfarande. Vi kommer att göra allt i vår makt för att vi inte ska hamna där”, säger utrikesministern.Maria Malmer Stenergard återkommer till vikten att bevara den regelbaserade världsordningen, och de principer som finns där. Men vilket väger tyngst när det samtidigt är viktigt att hålla sig väl med USA? ”Principerna ligger i grunden och vi ska stå upp för dem. Det är också ett svenskt säkerhetspolitiskt intresse. Man brukar säga att folkrätten är den första försvarslinjen. Folkrätten har, även om den inte alltid följs, tjänat oss väl. Jag bedömer att den kan fortsätta göra det, och då måste vi stå upp för den. (...) Men jag måste också säkerställa att Sverige inte sticker ut på ett sätt som skadar oss”, säger hon.Nygammal världsbildUSA:s agerande i Venezuela och Grönland är exempel på att Monroe-doktrinen från början av 1800-talet, nu har fått nytt liv. En återgång till en världsordning där USA skaffar sig inflytande i Nord- och Latinamerika. Det påminner om den multipolära värld som Rysslands president Putin ofta talar om, att stormakterna Ryssland, USA, Kina ska dominera varsin del av världen. Utrikesminister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) tycker att en sådan utveckling skulle vara dåligt för Sverige, och hon menar att USA:s intresse för den västra hemisfären påverkar landets sätt att agera. ”Svaret måste vara att fortsätta stå upp för folkrätten, vilket innebär att länder oavsett var man är belägen i världen och oavsett storlek har territoriell integritet och suveränitet”, säger hon.Vad kan små länder göra?”Samarbeta. I Europa måste vi bli starkare. Hotet från öst och signalerna från väst är helt olika, men svaret måste vara detsamma. Vi måste stärka oss själva militärt och det kräver en stärkt konkurrenskraft och ekonomi. Vi måste samarbeta ännu närmare, kanske reformera beslutsfattandet i Europa för att vi ska kunna vara ännu mer på tårna och en maktfaktor att räkna med”, säger Maria Malmer Stenergard (M). These highlights illustrate the crux of the debate about what to do to prevent injuries and death at Gas Works Park and what the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation is also responsible for when it comes to respecting the historic landmark aspects of the park and carrying through the intent of designer Rich Haag. In a move that has gone largely unreported, the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation (SPR) is seeking permission to make significant changes to the historic structures from the old gas plant that give Seattle's Gas Works Park its name and much of its character. Since 2008, several people have been injured and three have died while trespassing and climbing on the historic structures. Later today – Wednesday, October 1, 2025 – the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board seems poised to approve SPR's request for a “CERTIFICATE OF APPROVAL.” This would allow for removal of elements of the old "cracking towers" - giant, rusty pieces of equipment from the original gas plant. Gas Works Park is internationally known and is a beloved local destination on Lake Union in the city's Wallingford and Fremont neighborhoods. It was designed more than 50 years ago by the late Richard Haag. Haag was a landscape architect whose vision of preserving the industrial elements and incorporating them into the design of the park was revolutionary at the time, and it has influenced other park designs around the globe. In an emailed statement on October 1, 2025, a parks spokesperson wrote: “The Mayor's proposed 2026 budget adds $1.8 million to support safety improvements and remove certain appurtenances attached to the 'Cracking Towers' at Gas Works Park. Appurtenances have been used by trespassers and include catwalks, ladders, support framing, and select piping and valving, and pipe sections that currently extend beyond the security fencing. Improvements will also include the installation of security lighting to ‘up-light' the towers from purposefully placed fixtures around the perimeter of the towers.” As part of the process seeking approval, Seattle Parks employee David Graves made a presentation to the Landmarks Preservation Board on September 17, 2025, and the board members asked questions, and discussed the project with Landmarks Board staff. Today's meeting (Wednesday, October 1, 2025) begins at 3:30pm Pacific Time, and public comment may be made remotely online (see link below). På den anden side synes amerikanernes engagement i NATO ekstremt skrøbeligt. Alle frygter, hvad Trump kan finde på, hvis noget eller nogen uforvarende provokerer ham, og den fortløbende handelskrig mellem USA og Europa gør det ikke mindre uforudsigeligt og nervepirrende. Og endelig skal det handle om cigaretternes kulturelle genkomst. Vi ved, at de er skadelige for helbredet, og alle er enige om, at tobaksindustrien er ond.
