LAFC takes the show on the road as the Black and Gold take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto. Filly and Scarf cover everything that went down in Salt Lake and so much more here on Episode 207!As LAFC heads to the All-Star break, there was one more foe to vanquish before a little break, the cobalt-and-claret clad club from Salt Lake. On paper, it was a bit of a mismatch: No Damir Kreilach, no Bobby Wood, and no recently-acquired Danny Musovski, all out with injury. Recent acquisitions Bryan Oviedo and Braian Ojeda have not yet joined the squad, and the club just jettisoned David Ochoa to the nation's capital. Meanwhile, Gareth Bale, Brian Rodriguez, Latif Blessing, Mamadou Fall, Ryan Hollingshead, and the two Sebastians, Mendez and Ibeagha, we all NOT starting for an uber-talented LAFC squad that is still waiting on the arrival of their newest shiny toy, designated player Denis Bouanga. Would the matchup play out as lopsided as it looked on paper? Yes.LAFC wasted no time getting on the scoresheet as Chicho Arango puts away a Vela free kick with a stunning back-heel goal. RSL equalized just three minutes later off a goal from Cordova, but LAFC got right back out in front when Kellyn Acosta connected on a banger from outside the box. The effort by Mahala to keep that play alive allowed LAFC to enter the half on top.RSL started out the second half on the front foot, pushing LAFC's backline and controlling much of the possession. Not much got through, but RSL definitely pushed the pace out of the locker room. After a near miss in the 50', when Ilie had to clear one off the back line, LAFC grabbed control of the game because of another great play by Mahala. After beating his man 1v1, a perfect pass across the mouth of the goal found an open Chicho for a 3-1 lead, giving Arango 11 on the season. Just when you thought you had seen everything, Italian superstar Giorgio Chiellini tried his hand(s) at volleyball in the 69th minute, earning himself a yellow card and a chat with the AVP. Just when you thought it was safe to grab a snack or a drink, Gareth Bale provides another moment of brilliance, running around 2 defenders on his way into the box and drilling one past Zac MacMath for the fourth goal of the match. The team really was the star; it was the team in Black and Gold. LAFC remain on their pace to break more records and win their first cup. Also on this episode, Scarf has a crazy idea: replace the three LAFC All-Stars with three different LAFC players! Filly has a little trouble with Franco Escobar's first name while the boys both chat about the other leagues beginning their seasons. It's a fun one here on 207!

Vince La Rosa and Defenders of the Banc are back on another Monday breaking down a fourth straight win for LAFC in MLS. The guys talk Carlos Vela's game-winner, Mahala Opoku's continued rise as well as Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini making their home debuts. LAFC rolls back into Banc of California Stadium for the first time in three weeks, and waiting for them at the gates are the reigning CONCACAF champs, the Seattle Sounders. It's Episode 205, where Filly and Scarf break down all the fun that was LAFC's 4th straight win. With kickoff set for 8:15, the stars were aligned for some serious “MLS After Dark” action. The game's ominous start definitely qualified, as just 15 minutes in, Cristian Roldan plays through three LAFC defenders before crossing a ball into the box and off the foot of Jesus David Murillo for just our second own goal of the season. Down 1-0, and narrowly escaping going down two, LAFC would answer. A lightning strike by Mahala knotted the match at one in the 35th minute. Just 8 minutes later, Jose Cifuentes would deliver a perfect ball to Carlos Vela, and in Ciman-like fashion, the ball trickled through Stefan Frei's legs to put the good guys up, 2-1. In the second half, Gareth Bale came on after about an hour, and that was just about all the excitement to write home about. LAFC takes down Seattle and solidifies their spot atop the Supporters Shield race. Also on this episode, Filly quotes Noah Webster while Scarf dreams of a Chiellini hug at center pitch. With two games in the next 7 days, including an exhibition against Club America at Sofi, it's going to be another fun week for the Black and Gold, and for the Defenders! See you for 206!
For the second week in a row, Max and Vince are talking about an LAFC road win. Goals from Chicho Arango and Gareth Bales, as well as a clean sheet from Maxime Crepeau, got the job done 2-0 in Kansas City. Max and Vince take you through all the talking points from the match in their 3 Takeaways. Then the man between the pipes joins the guys to talk about that win against SKC. The guys also ask about saving shots from the likes of Chicho Arango, Gareth Bale, and Carlos Vela in training. Also, what it's been like commanding a backline with the addition of Giorgio Chiellini. All that and more on a new episode of Inside LAFC: The Max + Vince Podcast. Don't forget to subscribe, rate, review, and tell a friend!
We start by catching you up on LAFC's last couple matches featuring their newest international players, Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale. At 9:45 we come in hot with this episode's edition of the "Day in Gay". And then we bring on two amazing guests. First, at 26:45 it's Chris Bosquez, who is a leader with the Pride of the Sound, an LGBT supporters group for the Seattle Sounders (who LAFC play on 7/29/22). And then at 45:10 we bring on a guest from LAFC Pride Republic, Jay Lynn Gomez, to share her experience as a lifelong soccer player and fan, and as an LAFC supporter since the beginning, including through her transition. It's an awesome episode and we hope you enjoy it.
On Episode 204, we find the Black and Gold in Kansas City, at potential World Cup venue Children's Mercy Park, set to take on Sporting KC. It's a battle of worst versus first, as the only thing hot in Sporting's world is the climate, and this one would play out exactly according to plan. It was another slow start for LAFC, dodging an early bullet from Erik Thommy in the 15th minute. Sporting had a bit of a moment themselves, needing Logan Ndenbe to save one off the line to keep us scoreless into the half. Would LAFC respond with their typical hot second half performance? Yes. LAFC started out hot, manufacturing several opportunities just 5 minutes in. The momentum, however, seemed to really shift in the 50th minute, as Tim Melia, SKC's stalwart keeper since 2015, grabbed the back of his hamstring as he raced back to cover goal. He knew it wasn't great almost immediately, and on came seldom-used backup John Pulskamp. It took LAFC just minutes to strike, as Carlos Vela found Mahala who found Chicho for a beautiful ticky-taki goal. Chicho scores for LAFC yet again, and there aren't many hotter players in all of MLS than LAFC's number 9. LAFC would score a second goal in the 83rd minute, and it's fair to say this one was felt around the world. Chicho found a streaking Gareth Bale, who had checked in about 18 minutes earlier, and, in yet another #PinchMeMoment, the Welsh superstar opened his LAFC account by slipping one past the backup Pulskamp. Despite 10 minutes of stoppage time and near-100 degree weather, LAFC sees this one out 2-0 to remain “Best in the West and Best in MLS.”Also on this episode, shenanigans. Imagine that. Filly unknowingly challenges Eric “Badlands” Booker to a chugging contest with his New York accent in full effect. Filly learns what hamentashen are. Filly also rants not once, but twice, thanks to technical difficulties during today's match. Scarf was also part of the podcast. In honor of our 15th goal scorer, Gareth Bale, the Defenders have a neat idea: Please go to the link in our Instagram bio, and if you can, donate $15 to the fundraising effort for the Mauricio Fascio Fustal Field in Southeast LA. We can't think of a better reason to donate, or a better cause to contribute to. We'll see you next weekend for Episode 205.
It wasn't a dream. Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale made their LAFC debuts in a 2-1 win away to Nashville. On this week's 'In Touch' with Steve Cherundolo, Vince is asking Steve about moments in his life that were surrounded with anticipation and if they lived up to the hype.
Someone check on Vince, he must still be buzzing after this episode. This week, Max and Vince get a chance to talk with Giorgio Chiellini. The Italian defender made his LAFC debut in a 2-1 win over Nashville on Sunday. Max and Vince get an inside perspective on Giorgio's role with the team, what he loves about playing for Steve Cherundolo, how much he enjoyed the derby, and more. It's almost 20 minutes of amazing conversation with a defender that has seen and done it all. Before welcoming Giorgio to the show, Max and Vince go over their 3 Takeaways from the win. Was it all smooth sailing? The guys have thoughts. And what to make of Giorgio's and Gareth Bale's debut in the grand scheme of things for LAFC and MLS. All that and more on a new episode of Inside LAFC: The Max + Vince Podcast... don't forget to subscribe, rate, review, and tell a friend!

Come one, come all, to Episode 203 of "The Most LAFC Podcast on Earth," Defenders of the Banc! On most nights, our first match in Nashville, and certainly our first meeting against Walker Zimmerman since we traded him to Nashville in 2020, would take center stage. But this was not most nights, LAFC faithful. Ever since the signings of Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini, LAFC supporters wondered when and where they would their debut, and all signs pointed to Nashville. Sure enough, announced in the 18 was the Welsh superstar, Bale, and starting next to Jesus David Murillo on the back line was Chiellini. Tonight would be another in what has been a long line of “pinch me moments” this season for the Black and Gold. LAFC struck first, off the foot of, who else, Chicho Arango. The play began with a long pass from Chiellini to Vela, who back-heeled it to Hollingshead. Ryan's pass crosses the goal box to Chicho, who slots it home from a tough angle to give LAFC the 1-0 lead. All was fine until a silly foul by Ilie in the box on C.J. Sapong. After VAR confirmed the foul, the dangerous Hany Mukhtar stepped up to the spot and buried it, knotting the match at 1 heading into halftime. The second stanza has belonged to LAFC all season, and this match would be no different. Just a minute into the half, Carlos Vela drops an absolute DIME to Hollingshead, whose extraordinary effort literally puts the ball on frame. It caroms off the post to Cifu, and Jose hammers it home for his 6th of the year to give LAFC the lead for good, 2-1. Among the other highlights of the second half: Chiellini comes off at the hour mark for Eddie Segura, Ismael Tajouri-Shradi makes his return to the pitch for Mahala in the 84th, and OMG Gareth Bale makes his LAFC debut! In the 72nd minute, Chicho gives way to Bale, and all of GEODIS Park, not just the LAFC supporters, rose in applause and admiration. Gareth Bale is officially Black and Gold! The boys are definitely up to their usual knuckleheadedness on 203: We do a deep dive on the Butt family and H-E-B (not in Family Guy), explore Adrian Fein's time at Hamburger (also not in Family Guy), chat about Peterhead in Scotland (still not in Family Guy), and recount the inspiration for “Filly and the Scarf” (which IS in Family Guy!). Wow. We highlight the All Stars and TOTW-ers, the Las Vegas Lights, Angel City, and even Red Card Roger! We loved making 203, and we hope you'll join us soon for Episode 204!
Commemorating his second All-Star selection with a second appearance on the Max + Vince Podcast, Ilie Sanchez is on the pod this week. Before having Ilie on, Max and Vince go over the 3-2 win over the Galaxy with their 3 Takeaways from the match. The guys also take us through all the news surrounding LAFC, including the All-Star selections of Ilie Sanchez, Chiqui Palacios, and Carlos Vela. After that, Ilie joins the guys for a good chat. Max and Vince ask about the pressure and atmosphere of the Galaxy match. Why was the team relieved but not entirely happy after that game? Ilie explains. The guys also ask Ilie about his All-Star selection and the influence of Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini on the team so far. Don't forget to subscribe, rate, review, and share the podcast!
Max Bretos was one of the first North American voices doing soccer play-by-play back when few matches were shown live, and even fewer were called in the stadium. Now the play-by-play voice of LAFC and host of The Soccer OG Podcast, Bretos IS "The Soccer OG" and joined James Sharman, Craig Forrest, Brendan Dunlop and producer Dan Wong as part of this week's interview series. Bretos talks about the growth of the sport in North America, from calling games he didn't know if anyone was watching, to working for one of the flagship franchises in Major League Soccer that is reshaping the sports landscape in Los Angeles with the additions of superstar Gareth Bale and European champion Giorgio Chiellini. They laugh about the old days working "a niche sport", and Bretos reveals his West Ham fandom, and that he was actually covering the 2000 Gold Cup Final at the LA Coliseum when Craig cemented his legacy as one of Canada's greatest ever players. Lana Del Rey's hit song “Summertime Sadness” could've been the anthem for Toronto FC fans driving home from BMO Field Saturday night, and anyone that still doesn't have reliable internet service. The expected debut of Lorenzo Insigne was delayed for two weeks, and TFC conceded in stoppage time to draw the San Jose Earthquakes 2-2. But as Brendan Dunlop, Craig Forrest and Jimmy Brennan discuss, brighter days are ahead for Jimmy's old club as TFC pulled off a trade to land midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for Ralph Priso, and loads of TAM/GAM cash. At the match as a fan, Jimmy is reminded of how aggressive he was as a player by San Jose's Shea Salinas. The Canadian women's national team punched their ticket to the 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup in Australia and New Zealand by reaching the semi-final stage at the CONCACAF W Championship. The crew take credit for Julia Grosso's emergence as a prolific CanWNT goalscorer, since appearing on Footy Prime. Chelsea's £45 million signing of Raheem Sterling from Man City is seen as a win for all parties involved. Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini experience El Tráfico from the sidelines, and Jimmy & Craig explain why European players are so attracted to the North American lifestyle. Big things are happening for the Black and Gold! We look back on one of LAFC's biggest weeks with the signing of Giorgio Chiellini as well as a double game week which included 1 win and 1 loss. And this week......the LA Darby.
Lots to talk about for LAFC this week. The result in Vancouver wasn't what anyone wanted. But Max and Vince have silver linings to the last-minute loss across the border. It's also Galaxy Week. We've got a light preview of what we think both managers are thinking ahead of Friday's derby. The guys also talk about watching Giorgio Chiellini train with LAFC. In the second segment, Eddie Segura joins the show. The LAFC center back talks about returning to the pitch after nearly a year away with injury. What did he miss most while he was away, was he worried about the turf in Vancouver, and what did he think when the crowd chanted his name at Banc against FC Dallas? With all your favourite soccer players posting pictures of their lavish and exotic summer holidays, Brendan Dunlop takes Craig Forrest and Jimmy Brennan down "story time" road, which brings out a more PG13 Dan Wong than you're used to hearing on Footy Prime. Domenico Criscito arrives at Toronto FC and it sounds like there will be new arrivals at TFC before the summer is over. The crew speculate on which big names may follow Lorenzo Insigne, Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini to Major League Soccer next. They all agree that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will play in MLS, but not yet. Romelu Lukaku returns to Inter Milan on loan, and Bayern Munich are linked with a €65 million move for CanMNT forward Jonathan David. Could you imagine David and Alphonso Davies together in the Bundesliga? FIFA World Cup organizers celebrate having sold 1.8 million tickets for this winter's World Cup, with Canadians purchasing a large number of tickets. The crew speculate what their accommodations may look like in Qatar. Jimmy is convinced he's a better golfer than Wonger which has Craig propose a playoff tournament, as Dunny reminds the crew they still haven't attempted the penalty shootout challenge proposed with Dunny taking shots at Jimmy. And Max and Vince have the inside story of how it went down, directly from LAFC SVP & Assistant GM Will Kuntz. But first, let's talk about the other big news coming out of MLS this week. Max and Vince are back after a short break. Like the team, the guys took the week off to rest up for the summer. While LAFC won't play again until June 18, Max and Vince have a great guest to help fans get a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes at the club. This week, LAFC Performance Director Gavin Benjafield joins the show. Gavin joined LAFC ahead of its first season, having spent time with Watford and Ajax before coming to MLS. After a grueling May in which LAFC played eight matches in 28 days, Max and Vince talk to Gavin about what it takes to keep a squad at its best when there are limited days for training and rest. Gavin shares some of his methodology for the players that are playing lots of matches in a short period but also how to work with the players that aren't seeing the pitch as much during that time and need extra work on the side. But, of course, injuries are part of the sport no matter how much you plan. Max and Vince ask Gavin about the approach to rehabbing an injured player and go into specifics about the recovery of Eddie Segura from a long-term injury. If you've ever been curious about how players recover and why a performance staff is vital to a professional club, this episode will tide you over until LAFC is back on the pitch in MLS. But that's not all. Before Max and Vince bring on their guest, the guys talk about LAFC players in international matches as their nations prepare for the World Cup. Plus, we talk about the rumors of Giorgio Chiellini's arrival in LA. All that and more on another episode of Inside LAFC: The Max + Vince Podcast. Juventus signed off for the 2021-22 season with a we're-on-the-beach kind of performance against Fiorentina this past weekend, but the real memorable moments came last Monday night at Allianz Stadium — for good and for bad. On Episode 100 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: One singular takeaway from the week that was — we aren't going to talk much — if anything at all — about Juventus' 2-0 season-ending loss to Fiorentina on Saturday night. Looking back at the home finale on Monday night against Lazio. Not really talking about the game as you might think, but moreso talking about the farewells to Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala as they each got one hell of a sendoff in their final games at Allianz Stadium as Juventus players. However, as you might have noticed, the tone surrounding Chiellini and Dybala's respective farewells was very, very different. Also, how about that reaction Juventus president Andrea Agnelli got during Chiellini's post-game ceremony? That was ... rough. Juventus are reportedly close to signing Paul Pogba and Ángel Di Maria on free transfers. Is this a good idea? Is this a bad idea? Could one of them be worse of an idea than the other? Twitter questions — including realistic and dream scenarios for the summer transfer window and what some of most favorite and least favorite memories from the 2021-22 season ended up being.
