Refugees from Afghanistan have sought asylum in America after the Biden administration surrendered that country and 20-years of coalition investment of blood and treasure to the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and ISIS. Some of these asylum seekers are Muslim Afghanis who served as informants and translators for our forces. Staying in Afghanistan would have meant certain death or slavery for them and their families. It is the least our country can do for these folks to welcome them in. Other asylum seekers are Afghanis who have converted to Christianity. They also would face certain death or brutal slavery if they stayed in Afghanistan. And there is no question in my mind that America should grant entrance to Christians from majority Muslim countries, especially Afghanistan. Still other supposed asylum seekers may well be undercover terrorists seeking to infiltrate our country so they can plot and carry out reprisal attacks against America now that the shoe is once again on the other foot. If at all possible, we should not allow such people to come into our country. And if and when we identify them, the kindest thing our government should do to them is send them back to where they came from as quickly as possible. But what is the responsibility of Christ's Church in America toward the whole lot? Should Christians donate to Afghanis who have come to this country? Should we feed, clothe, and shelter them, even if or when we do not know whether we are aiding Christians or Muslims or even potential terrorists? To guide us in answering this question, turn with me to Romans 12:9-21. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/support

Tens of thousands of refugees are entering the U.S. from Afghanistan. I am sure, with a few exceptions, all are Muslims, which, to the delight of many on the Left, bolsters their case that America needs to be more pluralistic, cultural, philosophical and religiously. So how should churches respond to this humanitarian crisis that may contribute towards the increasingly diminishing status of the Christian faith in postmodern America?

Today I'm talking with Marie Matey, a missionary to refugees in the United States from closed countries where most live their entire lives without hearing the good news of Jesus Christ. God called Marie and her husband to be missionaries to Muslims from unreached people groups, and they thought this would mean packing their bags and moving to a closed country. But then, God brought refugees to their city from the very people groups God had laid on their heart. For the past several years, Marie and her husband have been missionaries to Muslims in their city, and God is doing amazing things! Today, Marie tells stories of how God is pursuing these people they love and opening their eyes to who Jesus is. To donate a one-time gift or to become a regular supporter of Marie and her husband, go to https://us.worldteam.org/give/ , and in the gift designation, write "Marie Matey" or the account number for their initiative: 014096If your heart is being stirred to go to Muslims in the US or abroad, check out World Team's short to long term opportunities:Compass: A 4 to 8 month program in the US with World Team's International Neighborhood Network More opportunities in the US and abroad

During his 2015 presidential primary race, a day after the San Bernadino shootings in which a married Islamist couple shot and killed 14 people, Donald Trump said he wanted “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on”. In 2017, when Trump came to power, the so-called “Muslim Ban” was introduced. Trump signed an executive order banning the nationals of 7 predominantly Muslim countries from entering the USA for 90 day. All Syrian refugees were banned indefinitely and all other refugees were banned for 120 days. Although the ban hit some constitutional hurdles a slightly watered-down version came into effect in March of that year. When Biden became the Democratic nominee he pledged to repeal the ban on his very first day in office. And true to his word, on January 20 he did exactly that.  On this week's Beyond the Headlines host Cody Combs looks at how the repeal of the “Muslim Ban” will affect Muslim refugees.

Are all the accounts of miraculous conversions among Muslim refugees true? What is unique about Athens, Greece amidst the ongoing people displacements in the Middle East? And what can U.S. churches learn from the hospitality and evangelistic zeal of Greek Christians? In this episode, Scott and Alex invited Darren Carlson to weigh in and take us on a journey through the planning and creation of his new documentary, Jesus in Athens. Darren is President of Training Leaders International (TLI), a theological education ministry launched from Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota to equip and resource the 85 percent of pastors worldwide who have no formal biblical training. He's also the brains behind the new documentary which chronicles the harrowing ordeal of Muslim refugees flooding into Athens from countries like Syria, Libya, and Iraq, only to encounter the love of Christ in the form of bold witness and radical mercy ministry among Greece's tiny yet unignorable number of evangelical believers. Darren founded TLI 2009, and now serves with a staff of over 50 people serving around the world, providing theological training in underserved and undertrained areas. Darren holds two masters from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a Ph.D. from the London School of Theology. You can follow him on Facebook and Twitter. Over the past decade, hundreds of Muslim migrants in Europe have encountered Christianity and embraced the gospel. In 2012, CT reported on the dozens of Iranian Muslims who had converted after moving to Germany. David Cashin, who has worked in ministry in Sweden and Bangladesh and taught courses in Islamic history, theology, and Muslim-Christian relations, believes something similar is also happening in Sweden. “The largest revival in the last 100 years is going on right now, and it’s primarily Muslims becoming Christians,” said Cashin, a professor of intercultural studies at Columbia Biblical Seminary. In recent years, as refugees have arrived in Western Europe from Iraq and Syria, some members of these communities have in turn become Christians. Yet, Christian communities in Germany and Sweden, comprising both those from the historic Middle Eastern church as well as recent converts, have been subject to abuse and harassment from radical Muslims. In 2017, Open Doors surveyed 123 Christian asylum seekers in Sweden. According to the report: More than half of all participants in the survey (53%) reported that they have been affected by violent assaults at least once, due to their Christian faith. Almost half of all participants (45%) in the survey reported that they have been threatened to death at least once and 6% reported that they have been a target of sexual assaults. Cashin joined associate editor Morgan Lee and editor in chief Mark Galli to discuss why Iranian migrants, more than any others from the Middle East, are drawn to Christianity, whether or not all these conversions are bona fide, and what the Western Europen governments must do to better protect migrant religious minority communities.

This conversation touches on some of our core values as individuals and as a nation. Our need to balance constitutional rights and generosity with prudence. Balancing freedom and security- safety and care for other people whose lives are at risk due to political, ethnic and religious conflict. How can we offer assistance? How can we protect ourselves? Our group of six participants address these questions and learn from one another. New ideas and possible solutions get brought to light while discovering they have more common ground than initially thought. “John” and “Mary” are working among Muslim immigrants and refugees in Europe, sharing the love of Jesus with people from a particular nation. Their work includes contacts with both long-term European residents and new refugees fleeing the crisis in the Middle East; each group requires different approaches when presenting the gospel. Listen as John and Mary share stories from their work—including the unique way God prepared Mary as a teen-ager to work among Muslims—and some common characteristics and experiences among Muslims who are choosing to leave Islam and follow Christ. We’ll also talk about how you can reach out to Muslims, even if you feel intimidated or don’t think you know the Quran well enough or know the right answers for their questions. We’ll inspire your faith and add to your prayer list this week on VOM Radio.
