"Regretting You" is a drama about romance, infidelity and grief based on a popular novel by Colleen Hoover. A teenage girl played by McKenna Grace discovers dark secrets after some family members are lost in a tragic accident. She navigates the tragedy while experiencing a big high school crush. Grace is terrific, as is Allison Williams as her troubled mom. The story is very soapy, contrived and manipulative, so many viewers will feel like they've been jerked around. However, fans of Colleen Hoover, known as "Cohorts," will get exactly what they want in “Regretting You.” Everyone else, beware. The Hulu entry "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" is a remake and update of a hit thriller from 1992. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays a wealthy suburban mom who hires a nanny, played by Maika Monroe, who lies about her past and, as it turns out, has a long-standing grudge against the mom. Slowly but surely, all heck breaks loose. You can't blame the talented cast, but this awkward version is saddled with implausible twists and is just a shadow of the original. The Apple TV+ documentary "Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost" is a comprehensive, warts-and-all look at the late comedy duo directed by their son, Ben Stiller. The duo achieved fame with their appearances on the “Ed Sullivan Show,” and worked their own marital angst into their routines. As it turns out, Jerry Stiller taped and saved everything in both his public and private life, giving Ben a mountain of material to sort through. Ben discovers some uncomfortable parallels between his parents' struggles and his own. It's a thoughtful showbiz time capsule.

Regretting Motherhood - Soft Antinatalism

We Are Not Saved

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 22, 2025 7:41

Regretting Motherhood: A Study By: Orna Donath Published: 2017 272 Pages Briefly, what is this book about? Donath interviewed 23 Israeli women who regretted motherhood. In most, but not all, cases these mothers asserted that they still loved their children, they just didn't like the responsibilities and restrictions that came with being a mother. In some cases they only realized this after having children, in other cases they knew they would regret motherhood, but reported feeling forced into it by societal, patriarchal, and pro-natal pressure.  What's the author's angle? This book belongs to the “unsilencing” genre. Donath is “unsilencing” mothers who regret their motherhood. Whether they are actually being silenced just in Israel in 2017, or everywhere even now is a good question, but outside of the scope of this review. Donath herself does not want kids, so she's not an unbiased observer of things.  What's my angle? This was recommended to me as a counterpoint to Hannah's Children by Cathrine Pakaluk (see my review here). I am definitely more Pakaluk's side than Donath's, but it is important to see what the opposition is saying. Nevertheless I was biased going in, and I remained biased all the way through. Who should read this book? If you're trying to gain a broad perspective on mother's feelings about motherhood, then this book definitely lays out one side of the debate, and you will have a broader understanding after reading it. Otherwise I would skip it. Specific thoughts: Where will the fertility rate naturally settle?

Fresh off zero rest and a Disneyland trip, he's got thoughts on croc charms, Mickey ears, and why the duck pond is way more fun with a gummy or two. Classic Radio Special - August 10, 1945 - Japanese Surrender is in sight-Part 2We continue with our look at the day before VJ Day, August 10, 1945, 80 years ago.First at 1pm Eastern War Time (EWT), the Mary Margaret McBride Show.  Mary Margaret chats with Eddie Rickenbacker, who mentions that he's known about the atomic bomb for some time. When he says, "This is the end of war for a long time to come," the studio audience breaks into applause. He describes the wonders of the future, such as frozen dinners and helicopters. Rickenbacker describes his well-known experiences on a life raft in the Pacific. Then at 1:45pm EWT, News of the World.  W. W. Chaplin and Morgan Beatty report from New York. The official Japanese surrender offer has been received by Sweden, but the war is not over. A report from Stockholm states that seven hours ago, the Japanese ambassador gave a note to the Swedish government to deliver to the British and Russian governments. Morgan Beatty analyzes what's "unofficially" happening. Beatty says that he "felt" that President Truman had something like the atomic bomb in mind while he was at the Potsdam conference. Sven Nordberg reports from Stockholm. Then back to Soap Operas with the Guiding Light at 2pm EWT.  Angie and Peter make small talk at breakfast. Peter has decided to confess all, even if he is disbarred! The first fifteen minutes of "The General Mills Hour."Following at 2:15pm EWT, Today's Children.  Otto receives a visit from his mother, Mrs. Schultz. Will he ever see again? Jan thinks about her feelings towards Otto...she's afraid he might regain his sight! News bulletins follow the story. The second fifteen minutes of "The General Mills Hour."Then at 2:30pm EWT, The Woman in White.   Jack has asked Eileen out, but she has another date. Regretting his lack of funds, Dr. Jack Landis decides to ask Jonathan for a job to see how it feels to be in business for himself! The third fifteen minutes of "The General Mills Hour."Finally, at 2:45pm EWT The Betty Crocker Service Program.   "Betty" tells a love story about a Marine named Tony and his girl Lois (who finds herself making lemon pie for fifteen hungry Marines)! Betty gives the recipe for "Emergency Steak" (which includes "Wheaties" as one of the ingredients). The concluding fifteen minutes of "The General Mills Hour."We'll pick up at 3pm EWT with A Woman in America, Ma Perkins, and more in our next block.

Was Judith beschreibt, nennt sich Regretting Motherhood. Sound enrichment is often touted as a magic solution for everything from masking triggers to helping pets chill out—but what happens when the “soothing” soundscape turns into sensory overload for you? In this episode of Enrichment for the Real World, Ellen Yoakum, Pet Harmony co-owner, behavior consultant, and proud sound-sensitive human, gets candid about the not-so-talked-about side of enrichment: what to do when your pet's needs and your own don't match. You'll hear real-life stories, mistakes to avoid (spoiler: not all white noise is created equal), and a step-by-step approach to testing sound options that won't make you want to throw your speakers out the window. Whether you're neurodivergent, easily overstimulated, or just someone who really values a quiet house, this episode gives you practical ways to navigate the noise—without sacrificing your sanity or your pet's wellbeing.Because enrichment isn't about trading your discomfort for your pet's comfort. It's about finding solutions that work for everyone. TLDL (too long, didn't listen): 3 Key Takeaways 1️⃣ Sound enrichment is personal – Don't just copy what you see online; test what works for your ears and your pet's comfort.2️⃣ Start with what feels manageable – Consider your own sound preferences and experiment with those before trying anything new.3️⃣ Find middle ground – When your needs and your pet's don't match, use creative solutions or professional guidance to make it work for both of you.For the full episode show notes, including additional resources, join us here.
