National FFA Week highlights the blue and gold for a week. It's up to Emma Slavens, National FFA Alumni & Supporter to help keep that enthusiasm bubbling year round. She visits with Jill Welke at the WI FFA Alumni's State Convention about how growing that supporter base has changed, and what messages they're offering in 2026. Warmer weather for the southern portion of Wisconsin today, while north of highway 29 can expect snow. Stu Muck says the snow will become more widespread by the weekend. Farmer led watershed groups now dot the state from corner to corner. One of the earliest groups formed was the Yahara Pride Farms watershed in south central Wisconsin. Jeff Endres is a Waunakee dairy operator and the chair of the Yahara Pride Farms group. He tells Stephanie Hoff that he's proud of how they've grown their on-farm demonstrations from 10-12 farms, to now involving close to 80 in real-world demonstrations of how conservation plans work. One troubling issue for this particular group is how big an influence the non-farm surrounding community plays in their nutrient planning. Endres acknowledges that as the population in Dane County grows, finding measurable results from their on farm practicies gets skewed. Cheese and butter prices continue to climb in Chicago, and there are a few motivators that may keep that trend in place. Pam Jahnke is joined by Matt Tranel, dairy analyst from EverAg to discuss how federal purchases through USDA, as well as a robust export market are keeping cheese and butter opportunities bright.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
A leveling off of temperatures is expected to come soon but not before lower than normal temperatures pop in for the weekend according Ben Jarboe's conversation with ag meteorologist Stu Muck. The winter has been a cold one across the US causing the waterways to lock up with ice. Kiley Allan talks with barge captain Jimmy "JRock" Cheatham to learn how they navigate the icy waters in order to keep the world moving. With it being National FFA Week we are looking into some great things Wisconsin members have done. Stephanie Hoff has a chat with former state FFA officer Tyson Gehrke from Fennimore to see how his recent trip to Spain has changed the outlook of his future. Last night the State Of The Union was given by President Trump and one member from the Wisconsin agricultural community was in attendance. Stephanie Hoff gets the scoop with president of the Wisconsin Soybean Association, Doug Rebout, and Congressman Mark Pocan. They share what the process was to get Doug to the speech and why it was important for a member of the agriculture community to be there. Fabulous Farm Babe Pam Jahnke is joined by Ashley Huhn from the Steffes Group to get some insight on what is happening with Wisconsin auctions. He says land is one of the top things being auctioned off this spring.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

National FFA Week: The February 23 edition of the AgNet News Hour put the spotlight on one of the most influential youth organizations in agriculture, the National FFA Organization. Hosts Nick Papagni and Josh McGill opened the program discussing improving weather conditions across California as bloom season approaches, but the heart of the show focused on celebrating National FFA Week and the leadership pipeline shaping agriculture's future. Joining the program was Christy Meyer, Marketing and Communications Director for the National FFA Organization. Meyer shared that FFA now serves more than one million members nationwide, with over 9,000 chapters across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Established in 1948, National FFA Week was strategically designed to include George Washington's birthday, honoring his agricultural roots and reinforcing farming's foundational role in America. Throughout the week, chapters host service projects, alumni celebrations, advisor appreciation events, and community outreach efforts. One of the most impactful days is Advisor Appreciation Day, recognizing agricultural educators who often serve as mentors well beyond the classroom. Papagni emphasized that nearly every FFA member he has interviewed credits a teacher or advisor for life-changing guidance. Meyer noted that FFA participation does not require growing up on a farm. Students enroll through agricultural education courses that range from animal science and plant science to agricultural technology and agribusiness. The organization prepares students for more than 300 agriculture-related career pathways, including food science, engineering, communications, research, and emerging ag technologies. Leadership development remains the cornerstone of the organization. Public speaking, critical thinking, community service, and hands-on supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs) equip members with marketable skills that translate well beyond agriculture. McGill shared his own background studying agricultural education and acknowledged how FFA builds confidence and professionalism in young leaders. The program also touched on broader agricultural policy developments, including federal efforts to prioritize domestic glyphosate and phosphate production. Hosts noted that strengthening agricultural inputs at home could help stabilize costs for growers nationwide. As bloom season begins and spring approaches, the message was clear: the future of agriculture depends not only on technology and policy, but on cultivating the next generation of leaders. National FFA Week serves as a reminder that agriculture's strength lies in its people, and the young men and women proudly wearing blue jackets today may soon be leading farms, companies, and communities tomorrow.

Tennessee FFA students wrapped up National FFA Week by meeting their lawmakers at the FFA Legislative Breakfast. Students who participated got the unique opportunity to meet their lawmaker in person and tell them what the blue jacket means to them. Thomas Capps Blue Jackets at the Capitol. Hello and welcome to Tennessee Home and Farm Radio. I'm Thomas Capps. Chloe Crum It means a lot for us to be able to get this big opportunity and come and meet everybody that really supports us. Thomas Capps Tennessee FFA students are wrapping up National FFA week by getting to know their lawmakers. The annual Tennessee FFA legislative breakfast was on Thursday, and for students like Ben Green of the Christian Community White House FFA chapter, meeting lawmakers in person is an experience I'll never forget. Ben Green It's been really special to be here with lawmakers and congressmen and just to hear them make their speeches and just inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders. And yeah, it's been an amazing experience. Thomas Capps Chloe Crum is the president of the Clarksburg FFA chapter. She's glad to have the opportunity to share with legislators what the blue jacket means to her. Chloe Crum The blue jacket to me means leadership is the big one and loyalty and citizenship. And it just means a lot to be able to put it on and represent everybody and take a role in society. Thomas Capps Mostly state lawmakers come to the FFA breakfast, but both Congressman John rose and US Senator Bill Hagerty, were there this year. Hagerty, a former FFA member himself, sees such value and what FFA teaches our youth. Senator Bill Hagerty It really is a rewarding organization, and as I looked across the audience today, all I saw was promise serving the United States Senate right now, I can tell you, we need strong leadership coming up through the pipeline, and again, I feel so optimistic to see these young people here today. Ben Green I just think it's really, you know, exciting to be here and just hear about just how God's working in Tennessee through the FFA, and how so many people have such good career opportunities in the future by just being in the FFA and doing this education is just going to take us really far in our lives and it's just really great to have this education as an opportunity. Chloe Crum It's not every day you get to speak to him. So when you speak to him, you know you want to make an impact. Thomas Capps FFA students today taking their place in the ag industry where tomorrow for Tennessee Home and Farm Radio I'm Thomas Capps. Thanks for listening and have a great day.
