When does Afro Blue and Smells Like Teen Spirit belong on the same record? When it's a Robert Glasper album! In 2012, Glasper's Black Radio brought together artists like Erykah Badu to bring a jazz standard, Afro Blue, back into the popular music canon. Black Radio hit #1 on the jazz charts, while simultaneously reaching #4 on the hip-hop R&B charts and #15 on the Top 200. The Blue Note pianist has been bending genres since the 90s, bringing together the best of traditional jazz and weaving it seamlessly with R&B, hip-hop, soul and rock & roll. And it all fits, because Glasper is equally at home in all of these categories. He grew up listening to all kinds of music, like Nirvana, Billy Joel, Busta Rhymes -- everything. Black Radio, he says, was a way to put his "life on wax". Rob Harvilla from 60 Songs to Explain the 90s: The 2000s joins Adam and Peter to dive into what makes this album great, and how it refutes from any attempt to categorize it. Selbstfindung, Queerness, Heilung und Freude – jeder ihrer Songs erzählt eine besondere und bewegte Geschichte. Geboren in New York, lebt Sorvina mittlerweile in Berlin und hat sich über die Jahre ihren eigenen Traum erfüllt, ihre Musik um Rap zu erweitern! Ihre Live-Auftritte sind oftmals eine Mischung aus Rap-Konzert und Jam-Session mit Jazzband-Elementen. Während sie zunächst als Singer-Songwriterin angefangen hat, mit akustischen Melodien und tragikomischen Texten, fand Sorvina letztlich im Laufe ihrer künstlerischen Entwicklung zum Rap. Welcome to the next episode of the midierror meets... interview series speaking to all kinds of people working in music and sound.    In this episode, we're speaking with MELLE BROWN - a London born Producer, DJ, and Presenter known for her uplifting combination of Jazz, Neo Soul, and House. Melle went to The Brit School, and found a love of production making music for her theatrical classes. Moving into Music Technology, she released her first EP 'Blossom' which was played on 1XTRA before she even graduated! Melle worked at Warner Records for over two years and went on to be part of radio shows on RinseFM, NTS, and Represent Radio.    Melle later got signed to influential DJ and Presenter Jamz Supernova's 'Future Bounce' label and released her 'Intersection EP' featuring Grammy nominated Tiana Major9 - which gained support from Elton John and Trevor Nelson. She was mentored by Fred Again and Kamille as part of the 'She Is The Music' programme, where she met Toddla T. Later on, her track 'Feel About You' - an unexpected collaboration with him and Annie Mac, won 'Best Dance Track of The Year' in the 2022 Billboard awards.  Melle has played Printworks, Glastonbury, Boomtown, Fabric, Field Day and she'll be playing a number of festivals this year: She also heads the 'Mellody Agency' - a music business with community at its core. Vocalist and songwriter Brianna Brown — known on stage as Be.Be the Neosoul, has performed on many St. Louis stages during her singing career. By day, she's the artistic director at her alma mater Central Visual and Performing Arts High School. Next Tuesday, she's hitting the stage at the Sheldon Concert Hall for something of a full circle moment. That's when she and CVPA students will put on a benefit concert to raise money for the school's arts departments. She shares what this moment means to her, what it's like to hear her students perform her original music, and how it feels to perform beside them on stage.
