Kat Walsh from Creative Commons joins us to talk about the history of Creative Commons as a 'hack on copyright.' Marc Weidenbaum speaks on the history of the Disquiet Junto, a long-running online distributed community creating new music in response to a weekly online composition challenge. Episode notes, credits and transcript In this season of the podcast we're working in collaboration with the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law and Policy at NYU Law. In addition to our usual crop of artists and programmers we're adding in legal scholars to help us unpack some of the thorny issues for those working in art and code as they unleash their work into the world. In this episode we dive into the world of Creative Commons, which is now over 20 years old. It is both an organization as well as a collection of copyright licenses used by artists, musicians, writers, directors and creators worldwide to communicate to the world how they want their work shared and potentially to be used as a source to build upon. We also speak to Marc Weidenbaum, founder and steward of the Disquiet Junto, an online “community of practice.” Each week Marc sends out an email newsletter with a creative prompt, consisting of a title, and instructions. These instructions may read like a Fluxus event score, a recipe in sound, a concept or technical description. Those who choose to participate create a single piece of music, then post it online, to be shared, listened to and potentially discussed by the online community. Marc has been leading Disquiet Junto since 2012, and from the beginning has encouraged participants to share their work with Creative Commons licenses. In fact the creative re-use of Creative Commons licensed sound and music has often been an integral part of Disquiet Junto creative prompts. Guests Kat Walsh is the General Counsel at Creative Commons. She has a nearly 20-year history in the free and open culture movements, including many years on the boards of the Wikimedia Foundation and the Free Software Foundation, and has previously worked in library policy, technology startups, and online community management.   B.S. Over A Couple Of Brews   Episode 2 - "Lofi Nofi"   Episode Summary:   Come join Rick-O and Korbs, and B.S. over a couple of brews. Tonight we discuss our favorite types of beer, some crazy concert experiences, and the music we both have been listening to lately. Rick-O's wireless mouse miraculously still works, so that's pretty cool. Cheers to good fortune, and also to remembrance!     The Brews: Rick-O's Brew: "Undead Party Crasher (Imperial Stout)" (Brewed by Clown Shoes)(Boston, MA) Korbs' Brew: "Sticky Situation Cinnamon Bun Stout" (Brewed by Legal Remedy Brewing Co.)(Rockhill, SC) Rick-O's Favorite Beer Styles: Stouts are my favorite. I mostly enjoy them for the rich flavor, and a lot of them tend to have hints of coffee. My second favorite type of beer is Porters, because there are a lot of coffee related porters out there. (Starting to see a pattern, here? Lol.) Lastly, I enjoy some sour beers, as long as they don't taste like straight-up stomach bile. I like the fruity sours, mostly. Korbs' Favorite Beer Styles: Porters Stouts Sours and Gose Beers, because they're a little bit lighter and don't make me feel like shit. Crazy Concert Experiences: Rick-O and Korbs went to a Lamb of God show at the LC Pavilion, in Columbus, OH. The venue is modelled after the House of Blues. The guy leaning over the rail of the upper balcony fell over the rail, and ended up falling 15 or 20 feet down on top of another concert goer pretty much shoulder to shoulder. Korbs went to the (3-9-2005) Lamb of God, Slipknot, and Shadow's Fall Show, at CSU Convocation Center in Cleveland, OH. Some guy with a compound leg fracture, had to be carried out of the pit and off the floor by a friend. Can't remember which show it was at The Foundry, but I had some random guy that was trying to talk to me right in the middle of a song that was real heavy. He tried to grab me around the back of my head to pull me towards him. I pushed him away, and when he came back towards me I picked him up and threw him into the middle of the pit. Then, the guy stood up and started making weird "Karate gestures". Everyone avoided the guy. I'm pretty sure the dude was on PCP or something. Lol. In 2017, Korbs went to a Decibel Magazine Festival. Pig Destroyer and Sleep were the headliners. Some dude was so high that he crumpled a full cup of water without spilling any, and tried to stick it in his back pocket. Dude did not spill a single drop. On 10-10-2011, a major fight broke out during the Chimaira show at The Outpost, in Kent, OH. Pretty sure it was Revocation and Impending Doom that were also on that bill. Andols was not playing drums with Chimaira at that time. It was Chimaira's last show of their Age of Hell album cycle. Korbs saw Ex-Chimaira Rhythm Guitarist, Matt DeVries, years later at an Unearth and Whitechapel concert in Chicago. Matt DeVries was playing guitar for Unearth. Korbs asked DeVries if he remembered that Outpost show, and he actually did.

Cette semaine, nous recevons Christian Dzellat N'Koussou, fondateur de NOFI (Noir et Fier) Group.  Il nous raconte la genèse de son projet, ses doutes mais surtout la détermination qui l'a emmené à être aujourd'hui à la tête d'une structure qui regroupe plusieurs filiales.   Entrepreneur acharné et attaché à ses origines africaines, Christian met au service de sa communauté son savoir et son sens des affaires.    Il revient entre autre sur sa rencontre avec Samuel Eto'o le footballeur, son partenaire et associé Jacques Faty ainsi que la vive altercation entre Kemi Seba et Egountchi Behanzin.

L'épisode de lundi a bien mis en lumière les nombreuses connotations négatives du mot Noir dans la langue française. L’une des conséquences de cette situation est peut-être la tendance française actuelle à éviter de dire "Noir" pour désigner une personne de peau noire au profit du terme anglais "black". Ceci est bien illustré dans une vidéo mise en ligne en 2002 par l'association française "Les Indivisibles" intitulée "N'ayez pas peur du Noir". Notre question est donc de savoir si la France a peur de dire le mot français NOIR.
