The programme, which is now in its fourth year, has provided Irish SMEs with an investment of over €650,000 by Three since 2021 across products and services, marketing and PR support, as well as access to industry expertise. Funded by Three Ireland and managed by the small business network and support provider, Enterprise Nation, the programme awards 10 small businesses, a portion of the €100,000 bursary. This bursary will comprise of €5,000 cash, €5,000 for device and connectivity solutions for each winner, as well as mentoring and support from Three Ireland's in-house experts. Padraig Sheerin, judge for Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses programme and Head of SME, Three Ireland, said: "Three prides itself on supporting businesses big and small across Ireland to scale and innovate through our connectivity products and solutions. This unique programme enables small businesses to not only avail of funds but also to access a range of hands-on support and mentorship from Three business experts. Since Three launched this SME Grant Programme four years ago, we have seen incredible growth from winning businesses and we are so proud of the role we can play in supporting them as they scale." Previous winners of the programme include successful growing Irish businesses like Donegal based Pumpskynz which makes accessories for diabetes devices, and Galway-based accessible gaming specialists ByoWave. Since being awarded a portion of the Three grant in 2021, Byowave have since scaled their business and have become an official partner with Microsoft. They recently launched their Proteus Controller globally at Gamescom and Byowave have also received further investor funding of €1.5m and continue on their mission to make gaming accessible to all. Three continues to support these businesses and is proud to announce that Niamh Tallon from Her Sport, (who was a 2021 Grant Winner), will also be part of the judging panel this year. Niamh Tallon, founder of Her Sport and winner of the 2021 Three Ireland Grant, said: "Winning Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses programme has been invaluable to us in boosting our growth journey. The bursary and business support from Three has helped us to add people to our team, increase brand awareness through more publicity and ensured we have the right tech in place to thrive as a young business. I am honoured to be one of the judges this year on the programme as I know how it feels to start your own business and I cannot wait to be inspired by the next generation of businesses coming through the programme in 2024. I encourage all small businesses to enter. You never know, you could be the next winner, just like Her Sport was in 2021." Sonya Lennon, judge for Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses programme and Entrepreneur and Workplace Equality Advocate, said: "What a privilege to see baby titans in the making. Extraordinary young companies get precisely what they need to mould themselves for success through this powerful programme each year. I've witnessed that growth in the years I have been involved. If ever there was a reason to apply for this competition, it's the success of those who went before you." A new study finds 3 in 10 adults are considering starting a business or side hustle when the recession bites in 2023 Undaunted by predictions that the economy is heading into a prolonged and deeper-than-expected recession, a significant number of enterprising Brits say they are considering starting a business or a side hustle in 2023. Driven by a desire to boost their household income and offset the spiralling cost of living, almost a third of UK adults (30%) are contemplating getting their own business off the ground this year, on either a full or part-time basis, according to a new survey by small business platform Enterprise Nation. While recessions often see people motivated to start a business because of job insecurity or unemployment, the research suggests this downturn will be different with greater numbers planning to start a side hustle while holding down a full or part-time job, Just 6% said losing their job was their reason for wanting to be their own boss. By contrast, 22% said it was to supplement part-time work or wages from a zero-hours contract or to make money out of a hobby they enjoy (27%).With technology and increased access to online start-up support making starting a business easier than ever, the study also found that entrepreneurial ambition is particularly strong among young adults with almost half (48%) in the 18-24 age group saying they were considering starting a business.Women (71%) were more likely than men (45%) to start a side hustle alongside their current job or caring responsibilities. The most popular business sector to start up in was food and drink (12%), closely followed by tech (11%). New research from Three Ireland reveals that over two thirds (69%) of SMEs do not believe they are supported enough as a business to grow further. The sentiment survey of over 300 small and medium sized companies in Ireland was carried out to mark the launch of Three Ireland's annual Grants for Small Businesses which comprises of a €100,000 bursary. The grant programme, funded by Three Ireland and managed by the small business network and support provider, Enterprise Nation, seeks to fund 10 small businesses and award them a portion of a €100,000 bursary. The bursary will be made up of cash, plus advice, support and connectivity solutions from Three Ireland's expert business advisers. With the cost of living steadily rising, the support SMEs require for day-to-day costs is evident – with 29% of businesses surveyed stating that cost of living support would be the most beneficial business support for growth. The research also outlined that government grants or funding for business (24%) and tax incentives (24%) were the next most beneficial support for business growth. These findings further underscore the necessity of offerings such as Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses and highlight how the challenges for small businesses vary significantly from larger corporations. Padraig Sheerin, judge for Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses and Head of SME, Three Ireland, said: “At Three, we've seen first-hand what the grant programme can do and the feedback we've had from last year's winners has been extremely positive. They have made incredible strides and I'm so happy Three has been there to support them in the next stages of their journey. “The results we've seen from the research have further outlined the challenges we know SMEs face daily. With the rising cost of materials, equipment, and services being the top (15%) challenge for businesses, we know our grant will alleviate some of the pressure and allow our winners to focus on growing their businesses to the best of their ability.” Sonya Lennon, judge for Three Ireland's Grants for Small Businesses and Entrepreneur and Advocate for Workplace Equality, said: “I am delighted to come on board as a judge for Three's Grants for Small Businesses programme, and to see the development of so many exciting companies who are thriving with the support of Three. Seeing how the small businesses from this programme have developed and grown their teams over the course of the past year is inspirational. “It serves as a reminder of what we can achieve when we are given the proper fuel. I have been involved with various small businesses throughout my career, and know the hard work, dedication and perseverance it takes to build something from the ground up. “Last year's winners, including ByoWave, AgriGuardian and HerSport, really inspire me – their extraordinary teams are shaping our future, enacting real change and altering the landscape of their respective fields. What Three Ireland has done with this programme is powering such positive change. These businesses won't be small for long.” The sentiment survey has also revealed a marked increase in support for mental health and wellbeing when compared to pre-pandemic levels – with 15% of companies offering mental health/counselling services compared to 11% pre-pandemic, and 18% of companies offering wellbeing support compared to 12% pre-pandemic. Everything that Simon Alexander Ong does is built around inspiring people to see their world differently and igniting their imagination of what is truly possible so that they can unleash their deepest potential. From a young age, Simon has always been curious about learning and exploring the areas of personal fulfillment, human potential, and organizational success. During our interview, Simon talks about having the courage to embark on the longest journey from our heads to our hearts. How do we define success and what does it mean to be fulfilled? Simon explains how many of us feel exhausted, not because we're working too hard, but because we are spending too little time on the things that make us feel alive. We often let others define what our success should look like, and as a result, we find ourselves running someone else's race. Simon speaks at international events, conferences, and corporate events that have included those organized by Google, London School Of Economics, Barclays UK, The Institute Of Directors, Virgin, O2, Salesforce, 10 Downing Street, Natwest, Enterprise Nation, and Microsoft. As a life coach and business strategist, Simon also helps leaders, entrepreneurs, organizations, and celebrities to transcend perceived limitations and experience extraordinary transformations through the power of insight, perspective, and energy management. #rocketpod #visionaries #selfdevelopment #leadership #personaldevelopment Thank you to flexy for supporting this episode of the podcast you can find out more: flexy.shop You can contact Simon via LinkedIn here.
