In this episode I interview Tyrelle McLeod-Bentley who is the co-founder of Soccer Assist. He shares how he started his business from a £100 bet in a West Virginia, America with a friend to winning awards, featuring in Four Four Two Magazine as well as COPA90 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIhevMUCv54&t=94s). After studying a Business Management degree in the U.S for 2 years at Olympic College & West Virginia Tech University, Tyrelle moved on to play professionally in Sweden. A 2014 'Young Enterprise business award' winner, Tyrelle has received numerous educational and sporting accolades in his career to date. Approaching the end of college, there are a limited number of exit routes for student athletes e.g going to a UK university, working full-time or taking on a modern day apprenticeship. Tyrelle embarked on what he considered being a new journey to the USA, after being awarded a scholarship through a recruitment agency. He found that once he began to comprehend the amazement of my achievements; the joy was short lived as he suddenly realised that there was no one to turn to for support and guidance. The prominent feeling of unfamiliarity and alienation became very apparent, especially during the first few weeks. With this feeling being quite common amongst other international players, he realised that by creating a more personalised service he could provide a bespoke after-care package that would prevent players in the future from experiencing the downfalls I had. This support system will ultimately allow them to achieve their academic goals whilst pursuing their professional ambition. This is how soccer assist was born out of the frustration of wanting to do a better job. This episode is full of golden nuggets, so if you are business owner, entrepreneur, someone who is looking to start a business or even a father who has a son who loves football this is the perfect episode for you.
