We're in London for the latest mix today, as Kerry native FLÆN join us on the Local Selection for a serious four-to-the-floor hour of the heaviest hitters to liven up your Wednesday. Patrick DSP has been smashing sound systems around the world for several decades on three decks. Starting in his native Canada and finally landing himself in Berlin, where he currently resides. Beginning his campaign of techno in the mid 90s in Toronto, soon delved into the production side of things, and eventually mastering. A quick study in the technical realm, the fast found himself working with renowned labels such as Kne' Deep Records and DJAX Up Beats, providing mastering, production and remixes for various labels, all the while building his repertoire of twisted pristine sounds. In between jumping from Canada, to Brazil, to Berlin, Patrick managed to expand his abilities, not only making music from film scores to blistering techno, but also using his mastery of production to teach others their way around a studio, giving classes and lectures around the world. Never one to rest on his laurels, he was also performing across Europe, South America and North America, spreading his techno sound from intimate local clubs to festivals such as the Love Parade in Germany, ADE, MayDay, Awakenings, Fabrik, Tresor and many more. His musical skills, along with his diverse range of technical ability, have not only resulted in an impressive discography of international releases, but have also allowed him to collaborate with some of the most talented names in techno, earning him the reputation of a true techno stalwart. The GTA Digital Podcast is back, with myself, Gary The Apprentice, laying down some techno for ya'll. This time something a bit different, and something that I've never done before. For this show I've decided to put a set together in Ableton, with over 40 tracks spread out across 4 channels, and performed using a Novation Launchpad and Launchcontrol XL. Expect an hour of absolutely banging techno, with 4 tracks constantly in the mix for the majority of the set. BIO: Dylan Drazen is one of America's most well traveled and globally respected techno DJs. Despite his nature to fly steadily below the world's Superstar DJ radar over the past decade, Dylan has gained legions of devoted fans in worldwide broadband bedrooms who purr at the thought of him appearing in their home town. Dylan is obsessed with finding and exposing new music. Professionally trained as a studio sound engineer, it was inevitable he'd start to create his own. His original productions have been showcased under esteemed labels like François K.'s Clicktracks and Chicago's Blueline, Montreal's Ascend and Sweden's G-Force. But most of his classic distorted hard techno work can be found in the archive of Brooklyn's Remains Records, run by Side Four co-pilot Tony Rohr. Several of Drazen's tracks have been licensed for DJ mixes, including compilations from Chris Liebing, Frankie Bones, Germany's Scranzwerk series, WaveTec, and Portugal's Kaos house imprint. Dylan's most recent studio credits come as mix engineer for large scale mix CD compilations, from Ultra Records' Out.Anthems (in which he has a featured track) to the underground New York 2 "tha" Bone double CD for 2007. The onset of Dylan Drazen's DJ career occurred in 1993; now he's performed in four continents and his musical memory is an encyclopedia of dance music history. When not on the road, he's either mining beats in his Brooklyn studio or diligently searching for set material in the troughs of New York's record shops. His productions span the arenas of house and techno--hard, tribal, deep, floating, pushing and swirling. Impossible to put to words, it's usually hour four into one of his extended sets where every style comes together--blending, lifting, causing a style unto its own. During performances, Dylan's preferred musical palate consists of three decks, a couple of CD players, a looping sampler and outboard effects. During his frequent shows in Spain it's typical to see him grabbing, twisting and manipulating clusters of knobs buttons and faders, all precisely moved to follow his momentary sonic path. They often call him "un máquina," chasing the inspiration flowing through him. Nothing is planned until seconds before it occurs, and when it does, it is extremely deliberate. Sometimes daring and unexpected but strangely fitting sounds are injected into the system on the fly, displaying a true love for his craft. Vegim's journey into the underground began in the early 1990's. At first, music was just a hobby. Once he began collecting records his obsession grew stronger and he invested in his first pieces of music equipment. 1998 was the year Vegim became a full time slave to the underground. He rapidly developed his skills as a DJ and in his Production. By the age of 18 Vegim had already discovered his lust for House & Techno. The desire to tell his story through music took over and Vegim has never looked back. Vegim's earliest experiments in the studio go back to around 2002. After about 4 years of hard work, he released his first EP - Creature 3000 with Nani Killa, this is his first tune which went on to receive support from a lot known World DJs. Today, Vegim is recognized as one of Techno's most influential artists. Not only a skilled DJ/Producer but also a graphics designer and coneptionalist that has a style unlike any other. He has released his own tracks and done countless remixes for many of the best known labels in the Techno realm. His tracks and remixes are well supported by djs like: Dave Clarke, Dylan Drazen, Laurent Garnier, Mark Eg, A Paul, Space Djz, Gayle San, Dj Murphy, Patrick Dsp, Dj Pauze, Mattias Fridell, Samuel L Session, Luke Creed, Pedro Delgardo and many more. In addition to being a high demand producer, his live performance is one of the most unique in Techno. His sound and mixing ability combined tell a story that is one of a kind. Vegim has traveled a long road since he began and he is now recognized as a symbol of techno worldwide.
