On this episode of “Cultivating Second Chair Leaders,” we will take a closer look at how celebrating baptismal identity through worship has shaped the KINDLE experience and its value when we are serving as Christ like servant leaders in our own settings. Our guest today is Joel Symmank, who has served for many years as KINDLE's chaplain in addition to his primary ministry call, serving in a congregation. The Founders' moments from today's episode come from Steve Arnold and Bill Karpenko. Steve lives in Forest Lake, MN and currently serves as a chaplain. Bill lives in Bloomington, MN with his wife, Michelle, and in retirement continues to faithfully serve KINDLE as part of the board of directors. Today we're powering up our metal detectors and keeping a very close eye on the surface of the earth as we set out in the hunt for meteorites with Steve Arnold, who's been in the game for more than three decades. Save of the Weekend contender kicks off the show this week. And that save was made by Bournemouth's Neto, who flew across his goal to brilliantly fling out a paw and pat away Jacob Bruun Larsson's free-kick in a 2-0 win over Burnley. Alphonse Areola bagged another MOM display as West Ham won at Everton, Emi Martinez put in a superbly solid performance for a triumphant Aston Villa against lowly Luton, and Andre Onana secured a season's first with his eight successful high claims in the defeat to Man City being more than any goalkeeper has managed in a Premier League match this term. In the EFL, Jed Ward continues to receive rave reviews at Bristol Rovers, Steve Arnold has stepped in admirably for a struggling Sutton and in Grimsby's 1-0 win over Forest Green Rovers, the game saw one shot on target and no saves made. Quite the spectacle.
It's all about Caoimhin Kelleher this week. For the second Carabao Cup Final in three years, he pretty much single-handedly dragged Liverpool to the trophy at the expense of Chelsea. Huge saves from Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher had Jurgen Klopp and Virgil Van Dijk singing his praises and forming a narrative which could prompt The Reds into a big decision this summer. Does the Irishman stay or go? Elsewhere, Loris Karius made his first Premier League start since May 2018, Viktor Johansson continued to rack up his save count in yet another defeat for Rotherham and debut podcast mentions were awarded to Jack Bycroft and Steve Arnold of Swindon and Sutton respectively. Lastly, a quick word is offered on Joe Hart following the 36-year-old's announcement that he'll be hanging up his gloves at the end of this season.

Episode 76: On RT centenary day itself, part 2 of our back-story of back issues, as Radio Times turns 100. Catch part 1 if you haven't already: https://pod.fo/e/1f20d1 - there we journeyed from 1923 to 1991, when the monopoly was ended and the British government opened up the TV listings market. In part 2, we're joined again by today's Radio Times co-editor Shem Law and RT enthusiast, collector, historian and BBC Genome contributor Dr Steve Arnold - plus the author of The Radio Times Story Tony Currie. How come part 2 covers just a few decades then? Well, Shem Law told us aplenty about RT present and future too. It's a real treat that certainly made me re-assess the state of the industry in a number of ways: from what we consume, to how we choose what to consume, to how we hear about what we choose what to consume. With me? Great. Listen on. Listen in. If it's on Radio Times, it's in this episode. Up next, an authors' special, navigating approx 150 years of wireless, radio, TV and more via half a dozen or so notable writers and academics with books that you-yes-you can buy, read, and grow your brain. Thanks for listening (in). And happy centenary, Radio Times! paulkerensa.com/oldradio
Happy 100th to (The) Radio Times! (The 'the' vanished in 1937) Britain's favourite magazine is a century old this very week, at time of recording. So it's a bumper edition - not dissimilar to the fat two-weeker that lands on your doorstep or falls off supermarket shelves due to weight and gravity every festive season. This is a two-parter, paying tribute to a century of the 'Official Organ of the British Broadcasting Company' as it was once subtitled. If it's on, it's in, and it's in this podcast. Part 1 brings us from 1923-1991 - with two tour guides: Shem Law is one of today's two Radio Times editors, and he invited me to RT HQ for a chat, a cuppa, and a browse of his favourite covers. (See link below for a link to our Facebook page, to see the covers he picks at as favourites - or least favourite). Dr Steve Arnold is a RT enthusiast, collector and broadcast historian. If it's on Radio Times history, it's in his brain. Also this episode, Radio 4's Justin Webb on his grandfather Leonard Crocombe - the first RT editor. Or was he? Steve Arnold has more on that. This is only part 1. Part 2 will follow in a couple of days, with more from Shem and Steve as well as Tony Currie, author of The Radio Times Story. Are you ready to meet The Meteorite Man? On this atypical episode of The LIUniverse, rather than our usual working scientist, academic or researcher guests, Dr. Charles Liu and co-host Allen Liu welcome famous meteor hunter Geoff Notkin. And he brought show and tell! “It is a strange truth… in our world of space rocks, that meteorites, more often than not, especially the rare or super desirable ones, are in the most inconvenient places.” (Although you will hear about this one time, in 1998, when the famous meteorite hunter Skip Wilson, who found over 100 meteorites in his career, virtually had one land in his back yard in New Mexico.) Geoff can turn the journey of a meteorite from the Moon or Mars to Earth into an action-adventure story. And when it comes to the discussion of presolar grains and chondrites, well… Find out how Geoff turned his passion into his career, living a life of adventure and discovery, donating many of those otherworldly treasures to academic institutions, libraries and museums. He and longtime meteor hunting partner Steve Arnold were the co-hosts of Meteorite Men, which appeared on The Science Channel. Geoff also shares his ethical and moral issues around starting and running Aerolite Meteorites, now one of the worldwide commercial leaders in the field of meteoritics. Chuck and Geoff discuss whether it's even possible for amateurs, academics and business to co-exist in fields from paleontology to archeology, to meteoritics. As always, we relish the day's joyful, cosmically cool thing, and it's a strange one: preserved cockroaches that ate moon dust are being sold at an auction. How did those roaches ingest that moon dust? You'll have to watch to find out.* How can we top that? Perhaps with a story about Geoff himself eating moon dust and living to tell the tale – which he does on this episode of The LIUniverse. If you'd like to know more about Geoff, check out his YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAcGREEGQbQV3x-CnOXcXTg We hope you enjoy this episode, and, if you do, please support us on Patreon. *Since the recording of this episode, NASA has halted the auction of the cockroaches, exerting their ownership rights over the aforementioned moon dust. Pozo is set in a bowl shaped valley. In fact, the word Pozo translates to well or hole in Spanish. The town originated as a stop on the Butterfield Overland Main stagecoach. Pozo is currently home to a Fire station, the Pozo Saloon (a temporarily inactive Civil War Era Saloon) and the Vintage Cowboy Winery. That's it.I met rancher Steve Arnold at the Vintage Cowboy Winery where he was surveying water damage to the floor of the tasting room from a recent storm. Most of the time when I visit ranches I am first greeted and inspected by ranch dogs. This case was no different except rather than being greeted by a border collie or Australian shepherd I met a pair of Boston terriers... Hudson and Budrow.
In this final episode of season two, get to know San Luis Obispo County cattleman Steve Arnold as he will lead CCA as president over the next two years.
In dusty attics and cupboards across the land, old radio programmes languish on tapes and reels. Luckily, Keith Wickham and friends make it their business to find them and get them back where they belong - in the BBC archive. Raiders of the Lost Archive tells the story of a collegiate network of audio archivists, sound engineers and hobbyists dedicated to repatriating these cultural treasures, outlining the complex work that is needed to ensure these programmes can be heard once again. Swoon as we hear how the Radiophonic Workshop archive was saved. Laugh as Ken Dodd tells jokes that were old even in 1957. Thrill as the archivists locate lost episodes of Desert Island Discs, and hand them over to Lauren Laverne. But that's not all. What is the astonishing audio holy grail that the Raiders archivists have turned up? A very special lost programme that has not been heard since 1955. With special thanks to the Radio Circle, Richard Harrison, Roger Bickerton, Mark Ayres, Steve Arnold, Tom Hercock, Hannah Ratford and all at BBC Archives in Caversham. Presented by Keith Wickham Written and Edited by Keith Wickham and James Peak Produced by James Peak An Essential Radio production for BBC Radio 4
Landing on centenary day (well, 100 years aince the BBCompany was formed), episode 55 is the tale of the first Bard on the Beeb. Dr Andrea Smith joins us to talk us through the first broadcast Shakespeare - but it's only part 1, as on Feb 16th 1923, it's just excerpts: scenes from Julius Caesar and Othello. Andrea will return for the first full-length play, when we reach May 1923 in our podcast timeline. Plus as the BBC finally turns 100, we consider some BBC100 celebration programming, including the redicovered Hancock's Half Hour episode - so Steve Arnold of the Radio Circle tells us the how and the why when it comes to finding and preserving such lost episodes. This week Tyler talks to voice actor and restorer Keith Wickham about his history with the Goons, about a show he has produced for Radio 4 called Raiders of the Lost Archive (which is being broadcast the day after this podcast goes out, on the 13th October) and a recently discovered Hancock's Half Hour featuring Peter Sellers. One of this country's most in-demand voice artists, Keith discovered Sellers at a tender age thanks to an indulgent schoolteacher and was immediately hooked. He soon abandoned his ambition to become a surgeon to focus on comedy and he recounts visits to watch classic radio comedy series being recorded, including I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and Just A Minute. He also developed an interest and talent for restoring radio shows, and as well as The Goon Show one of his proudest achievements in this field has been the complete I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again. He talks about collaborating with people like Ted Kendall, Richard Harrison and Steve Arnold and how he went about sourcing material - old tapes, discs etc - and the challenges he faced. Raiders of the Lost Archive tells the story of the audio engineers, enthusiasts and hobbyists who have spent years tracking down lost radio shows, dusting them off, cleaning them up and releasing them back into the world. Of particular note is the recently unearthed Hancock's Half Hour episode 'The Marriage Bureau', long thought lost forever, which featured Peter Sellers in a one-off appearance standing in for Kenneth Williams. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001cxx2

This episode is a little different to usual, because we are taking a break from new interviews over christmas and the new year, and instead I thought it would be fun to look back over some highlights from the first 24 episodes and interviews. But rather than pick some random top clips from the various photographers who have been on the podcast this year, I think it's going to be doubly interesting if I try to stick to a theme for each compilation... So to kick this off, todays compilation episode is a kind of crossover between minimalist landscape photography and shooting locally. Given the still current travel situation worldwide, shooting locally is a very relevant topic so to start with you'll hear from Anthony Lamb from episode 2 about his minimalist style and how to capture interesting and unique images in your local area, when you don't have epic landscape vistas on your doorstep. Then you'll hear from episode 19's Mads Peter Iversen who this year has focused on photographing and videoing his home country of Denmark, and shares his advice for taking great landscapes without having to travel far. And finally Alex Noriega from episode 11 who talks about how to capture abstract and minimalist landscape photos, and while we don't discuss it specifically in the context of shooting locally, I think this approach of photography is a great option for photographers who want to capture something different and interesting close to home no matter where you live. In this episode I'm chatting with the amazingly talented landscape photographer Isabella Tabacchi, aka @isabellandscapes on instagram. Isabella's distinctive landscape photography style borders on the dreamlike, but without losing any sense of realism at the same time - it's something I find really difficult to describe so if you're not familiar with Isabellas work then I highly recommend you follow her instagram page. Coming up, I'm asking Isabella about her creative process and how she developed such a style, as well as to get her insights into what it's like being on the judging panel for the prestigious Epson Pano Awards for the past three years, and if she has any tips for photographers wanting their entries to stand out from the crowd. Resources IsabellaTabacchi.com - See Isabellas portfolio and find out about her online classes and in-person workshops, and sign up for her email newsletter. I came up with a bunch of titles for this weeks episode with Scottish outdoor photographer Kim Grant. Titles about creating videos for YouTube, about doing something unique, about showcasing the beauty in your own local landscapes, about capturing the attention of tourism boards to work with, and so on... But there was one overarching theme to what Kim shared in our chat... One main lesson that no matter what your specific field of interest is, or whether you want to "go pro" or not, if you take this lesson to heart then you should never find yourself low on inspiration or losing your passion for photography. Subscribe to the podcast and listen to the full interview now to hear how Kim has done it, and how the side-effect was a career in photography. Resources Kim's YouTube Channel - Subscribe to Kim's YouTube channel Kim Grant Photography on Instagram & Facebook KimGrantPhotography.co.uk - Visit Kim's website to see her photo galleries, workshops, and more. Talking Points How to use photography to showcase, educate, and inform about your local area How creating video blogs (with a twist) led to a career in photography How Kim comes across naturally on video even though she's still camera shy Why is it still painful to watch other people watching your own videos? (Something Kim and I have in common!) How to get your work noticed by tourism boards What's involved in creating video guides for tourism Why Kim doesn't pay much attention to video stats (and what she focuses on instead) Why you should create content for the right reasons and what happens when you don't Why making the jump from hobbyist to professional did NOT destroy her passion for photography (in fact it was the opposite!) Talking Points How living in Iceland affected Óli's growth as a photographer How challenging locations and conditions can train your creative eye faster Does the effort you put into capturing a photo affect the quality or value of the photo? Who are you shooting for? Work ethis - why nobody gets good by accident Does having a "style" help or hurt you as a photographer? Why there is only 1 real type of failure in photography Why growth isn't found in the "money shots" How to go beyond the money shots to find more unique images When should landscape photographers tell the "truth" in their work? Why it's dangerous to rely on external factors for motivation and inspiration

It was another routine day in Afghanistan in 2011, when suddenly, Steve Arnold, a former Staff Sergeant of a search team in the Royal Engineers' life was turned upside down in an instant when he stepped on an IED. The blast left Steve with multiple horrific injuries, with the main injury being the loss of both legs, leaving him a double amputee. Instead of letting this horrendous incident and life get the better of him, Steve has worked extremely hard with the help of the fantastic rehabilitation team at Hedley Court to not only take up hand cycling as a hobby, but represent his country in it on the world stage taking home multiple medals. Steve's passion for sport hasn't stopped there. As he explains in today's inspiring episode, hand cycling has been removed from the Paralympic games so has instead taken up Biathlon with the aim to reach the Paralympic games in 2022. On top of several Invictus Games medals Steve has represented Great Britain on the world stage in Biathlon and he shares with us the dedication, endless hours of training, the sacrifices he has made over the last few months - All in order to be the best version of himself whilst representing his country. Not only was it a humbling experience to interview a great friend and high performing athlete. It was tremendously inspiring to hear Steve's message to those who have been badly injured in the past and how they can motivate themselves to achieve great things. Regardless of the injuries Steve has sustained, he has no regrets and wouldn't change a thing, which says a lot about the man and his outstanding attitude. It sends home the message that if you apply yourself to your goals, you dream big and you work your ass off. Every single one of you can achieve great things!
