In this week's episode of the Full Production podcast, I had the pleasure of chatting with my good mate, and Cobar legend, Peter Payne. Peter is an ex-pub operator, a solicitor, a Cobar old hand and a guy who's accumulated a heap of wisdom over the years. Prompted by his proud family, Peter recently realised a life-long dream of becoming a lawyer. Prior to that, he was the owner of The Occidental Hotel, a foundation of the Cobar community. Listen to this episode to hear all about Peter's early days, some of the tragic events in his life and how they shaped him, the pub, mining communities and how they're changing, and how Peter returned to his dream after many years. Also touched on in the episode: Wild stories from the early days of Cobar The story of Peter's path to owning a pub Peter's formula for dealing with customers What intrigued Peter about ‘the mine' The evolution trends of many mining communities Why Peter became a solicitor What regulation has done to the pub industry The ‘black beer club' How the role of hoteliers and publications has degraded Advice to small business owners in mining towns Why ‘drive in drive out' is the way of the future Links: The New Occidental Hotel Cobar Weekly

Prepare for our triumphant return with an exciting, interview-packed, super-sized episode of Mating Habits! Sean Ryan and I discuss the ins and outs (pun intended) of the adult entertainment industry and how it relates to those of us in the geek community. Some of the things we discuss may be illegal or otherwise not allowed where you live, so take everything we say with a grain of salt - we are not suggesting anyone listening to this show engaging in any illegal acts, nor are we suggesting actually following any of the suggestions we do give. We're not actual life coaches :) I score the interview of the century with everyone's favorite purveyor of all things Japanese, Peter Payne of JList! Peter teaches me about the Japanese attitude of "Shō ga nai," where they've given up on trying to change what people want to do in the privacy of their own homes, and simply say, "It cannot be helped." It's a wonderful philosophy. While you're listening to the interview, please check out JList and all the things (not just the adult stuff) that you can find to satisfy your Japanese cravings:https://jlist.comAnd check out Peter Payne's blog about Japanese culture and more at:https://jlist.com/blog Sean and I also gab about our latest video game obsessions with Transformers: Devastation and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, how much fun the Supergirl pilot was, and we relive the epic night that was Sean and Vane's Spooky Birthday Party. Tables get flipped over Campbell's Soup potentially ruining Star Wars, and how the only thing you should ever flip are pancakes, scripts, and tables - never teenagers in their desks at school. OG "guess the character in the envelope" Contest The papercraft contest was too hard, no one made the deadline, so Bryce had a really good idea this week, for a contest. The cast has picked an anime character, wrote it down on a piece of paper, and sealed it up in an envelope. You the listener must figure out who the "character in the envelope" is... For this first week we just made the announcement of the contest. The prize will be a pack of goodies, a Lisa Ray CD, a T-Shirt from J-List, and maybe something more *hint*hint*cough*... So you ask what are the rules? Well they're pretty simple. First off, we will only accept one guess per email, once a week. If you put more than one guess, in an email, we will only take the first guess. You cannot enter more then once an week, and not more then once per email. Please pay attention to the use of the word "character", it could be a person, animal, car, mech, bryce, paul, a tree, a rock (assuming they are portrayed as "character" some how), almost anything. Each week will reveal a little more about the "character in the envelope" in an anime, until some one guesses it right, and wins.
