Coming from San Francisco's Hunters Point neighborhood, Guce has been a factor in Bay Area rap since the 90s. Before getting into rap, he developed street ties throughout Northern California. His first project was a group, Straight Lace Mob, followed by his own impressive solo career as well as collaboration brand Bullys Wit Fullys. His discography reads like a history of Bay Area rap itself, having worked with Messy Marv, Mac Dre, Jacka, Killa Tay, J. Stalin, and Philthy Rich. Through his label Git Paid Entertainment, he helped launch the careers of artists like Mob Figaz, Larry June, and Mozzy. After fighting an attempted murder case and being wrongfully convicted, he won an appeal and was released after almost 7 years in prison.--For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail info@historyofthebay.com--History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aaOnline Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlAInstagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_oneTikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_oneTwitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_oneFacebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone41500:00 Intro02:22 Growing up in San Francisco09:10 Getting into the streets12:29 Moving to Sacramento16:31 Bloods & Crips23:28 Starting to rap32:11 Straight Lace Mob, Shadow & Woodie39:07 Pure Pressure49:20 If It Ain't Real It Ain't Official58:05 Bullys Wit Fullys1:06:47 Mob Figaz1:12:28 Killa Tay & Agerman1:14:20 Messy Marv1:37:01 The Jacka, Mac Dre1:42:33 J. Philthy Rich has been in the rap game for over 15 years and become a Bay Area legend. Growing up in East Oakland's Seminary hood, Philthy transitioned from the streets to music and gained a huge success through his nonstop work ethic. Starting off with J. Stalin's Livewire Records, Philthy now develops new artists through his label FOD Entertainment. Overcoming prison stints, police harassment, beef with other rappers, haters, and snakes in his circle, Philthy has achieved nationwide success and continues to give back to his community. -- Sponsored by Stem Social https://stemsocial.io https://instagram.com/stem.social Also sponsored by Lost Soul Courier Collective - call or text (415) 275-1922 for free Narcan delivery in San Francisco https://lostsoulcouriercollective.org For more info contact @traceyh415 -- For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail: historyofthebaypodcast@gmail.com -- Hat by So Fresh Clothing Soccer jersey by San Francisco City FC -- Produced by DEO @deo415, videography by @mvp_kingced --- History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aa Online Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlA Instagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_one TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_one Twitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_one Facebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone415 --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/historyofthebay/support

Amir RAshad, better known by his stage name Kafani, is an American rapper from the Funktown section of San Antonio, Oakland, California. This weeks' guests Cardo and Payroll Giovanni have been making dope music for a few years now and it doesn't sound like they are slowing down anytime soon. Here we talk with them about how they met, their chemistry and how they've been able to mesh their individual styles together so seamlessly. 1:00 - Cardo is originally from Minnesota and moved to DFW. Payroll is from Detroit. So, we had to ask how these two even met and started making music. Ironically, their incredible chemistry was from working together in Atlanta on a halted super group album with Jeezy and YG. Cardo and Payroll remind a lot of listeners of the Bay Area's "mob music" sound. They both speak on how the style influences their music. 10:00 - Payroll and Cardo talk about how their chemistry hasn't been impacted too severely by not being able to work together in the studio during COVID. They reveal how even though email has become their primary mode of communication, the magic is still there. 15:15 - Payroll will be starring in a film about Detroit icons Chedda Boyz. He clarifies that the film he is in focusing on the street crew, not the rap iteration that many are familiar with. 17:20 - Detroit Hip-Hop is starting to be recognized to the point that other regions are actually starting to borrow some of their slang, style and fashion. Payroll speaks on how crazy it is to see it happening. 19:40 - Cardo explains the origins of 2020's Game Related album that featured Payroll, Larry June and Kid HBK. While it was well-received by fans, the album happened to drop the same day as Kobe Bryant's death and days before the world stopped because of COVID. 23:00 - Cardo has produced megahits for the likes of Drake and Travis Scott, but he has also created cult classics with people like Payroll, Curren$y and others. Here we ask him if he ever tries to get artists on their level to rap on some of his more "underground" type beats. 28:15 - Payroll speaks on his upcoming tour with Oakland rapper Philthy Rich and how it feels going back on the road as things are opening back up. We also get them to speak on new music they are working on. Before Mozzy would be “Afraid” that his “Activities” would lead him to a “Thugz Mansion” he realized there was “No Choice” but to better his life because “Tomorrow Ain’t Promised” and he became a “New Era King.” Before he would release diss track Chill Philippe and Philthy Rich would return the gesture with Troublesome 59.
The name Kevin Boles may not mean anything to you but recently he admitted to leading a six-year marijuana and money laundering conspiracy that sold between 3,000 and 10,000 kilograms of marijuana in St. Louis and across the country. And also admitted a role in laundering between $1.5 million and $3.5 million in drug proceeds via various schemes, including the purchase of a limited-edition $400,000 Lamborghini. Now how does Philthy Rich play a role into Mr. Boles well that is more of a complicated question and in this episode I we layout the case for you. Sultan Sayegh is the owner of Elite Audio & Customs, at 5075 S Decatur Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89118-1516, the location where all the drugs order transactions was taking place and federal agents were listening to the phone calls and that is where Philthy Rich comes into the picture.
