En herhaal; "I Am, Sofa King. We Todd Ed" De Blauwdruk Podcast De Blauwdruk Podcast wordt volledig gemaakt door Vincent van Koningsbruggen, Victor van der Ham en Tim Elenbaas.

On this episode of Vinyl Verdict, Bell, Jamie and Plouffe, listen to Plouffe's next pick, DANGERDOOM's The Mouse and the Mask. Released in 2005, this was the only full length album released by the duo of producer Danger Mouse and rapper MF DOOM. Consisting of fourteen tracks that are interspersed with clips from Adult Swim shows such as Perfect Hair Forever, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, the album stands as a tribute to a particular period of time in cartoon history. MF Doom is joined by some of the characters from these shows on several tracks, as well as guest rappers Ghostface Killah and Talib Kweli. The album was well received by critics who admired its production value, the incorporation of the Adult Swim characters and the lyrics. Spin placed it at number 25 on their list of the 40 best albums of 2005. Will the boys place it high on their list of best albums from 2005, or will it be a trip back to a time best left forgotten? Come along and find it!

"The Elektra staff had changed completely. They had fired the guy who signed us, and basically everybody else, including the president. They brought in this whole new staff whose introduction to Ween was 12 Golden Country Greats. With them not knowing us, they didn't know if it was a put-on. A lot of people have so many misconceptions about that record. I think they thought it was our way to get out of the deal, which wasn't the case at all. It was something we were proud of and love, plus we had The Mollusk about to drop. They had no idea what to do with the country record, so then it came time for The Mollusk, we were thinking, “This is our greatest record.” We mastered it with Howie Weinberg, sent it in, and I didn't hear from Elektra for two weeks. I finally called the A&R guy, because the suspense was killing me. I said, “What do you think of the new record?” And he said, “What new record?” I yelled, “The new record! The Mollusk!” I heard him fumbling around on his desk and he said, “Oh, here it is.” He hadn't even listened to it for two weeks! At that point, I knew the fucking record was doomed. Jesus Christ! They just gave us two huge advances, and we delivered two albums. I don't know if they thought we were trying to put them on a second time, or someone mentioned, “Those guys did a nautical record.” I was so pissed! This was the best thing we've ever done, and they didn't even care!" ---Mickey Melchiondo AKA Dean Ween (excerpt from "Ween's The Mollusk Turns 20: An Oral History By Mickey Melchiondo") Today it's Brad and Jake with two returning guests: Sam Bronn from the DangerDOOM episode, and Alexandra Derderian from Inspector 34, Sad Milk Collective & Triple Yeah Productions as our month of Inspector 34 continues!!! We’d always planned to do a hip hop episode after the Cocteau Twins, but after the sad passing of MF DOOM was announced on December 31st 2020, we decided to switch focus from The Cold Vein by Cannibal Ox to one of DOOM’s finest hours - Madvillainy by Madvillain. Madvillain is one of many collaborative projects that MF DOOM embarked upon throughout his career, with this particular one being his first collaboration with legendary undergroun hip hop producer/DJ/MC Madlib. One of Daniel Dumile’s many personas, DOOM was born out of frustration with the music industry, ad Dumile sought to “destroy that which had created him” following the death of his brother and the unceremonial dismissal of his first project, KMD by then label Elektra records. Until Madvillainy, we had only properly been seen on the first MF DOOM album Operation: Doomsday in 1999. After creating albums under the names King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn in the period leading up to this record, Madvillain saw DOOM bring his “main” persona back into the spotlight, and there it remained until his untimely death last year. In this episode we cover DOOM’s career right up until 2004, whilst also waxing lyrical on the tendency of some journalists to project their own ideas onto art in order to cack-handedly “legitimatize” something that is already very legit. Part two is next week, and we’ll cover his career from DANGERDOOM onwards, and then get torn into Madvillainy.

A special tribute to MF DOOM DJ mix this week. Includes his first ever feature as Zev Love X with 3rd Bass on Def Jam, the KMD releases with his brother and starting off with the classic Scooby Doo sampling track on the influential Fondle Em records. Collaborations as NehruvianDOOM (with Bishop Nehru), DANGERDOOM (with Dangermouse) and JJ DOOM (with Janeiro Janell) on Lex Records. The all time classic Madvillain (with Madlib). Features with Kool Keith and YOTA. A track from the excellent Viktor Vaughn album. Some of the original tracks as sampled on the releases are in the mix too. Celebrating some of the inspiring tracks from one of the best Hip Hop artists ever. Plus music from Nikitch & Kuna Maze (remixed by Sivey), IG Culture reworking a James Brown classic, a big tune from Trends, plus lots more musical goodness.

We can not think of a more painful way to end this horrible year than us hearing of MF DOOM's passing. He meant so much to many. From his comeback, his wicked rhymes to his villainous identity, DOOM was one of a kind. We wanted to honor Daniel Dumile by sharing with you some known/not-so-well known songs among his vast catalogue. We will revisit the mask in different ways through his work with Madlib (Madvillain), Danger Mouse (DangerDoom) and Czarface to name a few. We also have various interview snippets that speak to his genius. It has been a true honor to many of us to have had him in our lives. We wish him the best on his transition. Peace to John and Ramon. 0:00-13:25: Ashley MacLennan of DRaysBay is here to try and figure out how Mike Zunino ended up in the World Series. Her and Matthew begin by rejoicing over the fact that the Astros lost and how strange it is to not play an non-divisional opponent all season until the League Championship Series. Then we get into the Zunino zone. What were Ashley’s thoughts when the Rays traded Mallex Smith and Jake Fraley to land Z? Did anything surprise her about Zunino’s skill set? Also does Tampa want Jake Fraley back? 13:30-29:40: How did the Rays use Zunino during the regular season? Can we expect that to continue in the World Series? With a player like Mike, the non-quantifiable things are arguably the most important. How does Ashley feel about that, and how does that affect the way she watches the team? A discussion about players excelling after finding the best fit for them blooms out of this. Will Mikey be able to just sit fastball and feast off the Dodgers’ velocity? 30:10-41:34: The Rays are great y’all, get over yourselves. Watching bullpen games is weird, but it certainly helps when all the bullpen guys have the best stuff you’ve ever seen. Lastly, as this is a Mariners podcast dripping with self-immolation, we remind you of the Dodgers’ history of success vs. Seattle’s. To cap things off, Matthew and Ashley talk about the Rays’ chances to actually win this thing. Music: “Benzi Box” by DANGERDOOM ft. The south definitely had something to say in 2005 with Jeezy's 'Thug Motivation 101' creating the foundation of the Atlanta trap sound that dominates hip hop today. Foo Fighters released their risky double album, 'In Your Honor' with one disc featuring 10 loud rock tunes and another featuring 10 acoustic tracks. 2005 also say the return of Quasimoto, Danger Doom and MF Doom team up and more! [BRAD's PICK] "Adult swim... all kids out of the pool!!!" To anyone growing up in the late 90s/early 00s that had access to cable, this quote represented freedom... It meant that in a few short minutes, your beloved Cartoon Network was going to turn into a raunchy and disgusting wonderland of absurd comedy and uncut anime. This was still in the age of dial up internet, so there was no streaming, social media, or internet memes yet; a stone age of sorts. Between 2001 and 2005, Adult Swim gave us a new kind of comedy show that wasn't just a sitcom, including Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, and The Brak Show (not to mention Space Ghost Coast to Coast that existed prior to that). By revitalizing old Hannah-Barbara animations and repurposing them into new shows, Cartoon Network was breaking ground with what could be done with intellectual property. These new shows were remixes of old beloved shows, which is why I think they pair so well with hip-hop, a genre that takes unused gems of music and gives them new life. In 2005, they decided to take this connection it's logical conclusion. Enter Dangermouse and MF Doom. Dangermouse has started his rise with the much-hyped "The Grey Album" (a mashup of Jay-Z's "The Black Album" and The Beatles' "The White Album"), but at this point is still underground, as he hasn't broken through the stratosphere with Gnarls Barkley yet. MF Doom is perhaps at the peak of his underground cred, coming off the heels of some of his best projects, King Geedorah, Viktor Vaughn, and Madvillain, as well as his most critically acclaimed MF Doom release "Mm... Food." The idea of Dangermouse, MF Doom, and Adult Swim combining their street cred to form this conceptual masterpiece is still completely baffling. It's very one-of-a-kind, capturing a moment of early Adult Swim and 2000s underground hip hop, and I don't think it will ever be done again quite like this (short of an actual sequel by DangerDoom)... Join Brad, Jon, and special guest Sam Bronn, as they go back to a simpler time... a time when you waited until a predetermined hour to watch your favorite tv show... #MFDoctorDoomMCU Next Up: (05-25-20) BONUS EPISODE Gorillaz - Demon Days (06-01-20) Iced Earth - The Glorious Burden SPOTIFY PLAYLIST NUMBER ONE: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6Z67Ka5xedSfYIvWw6YNt4?si=GG5CAvtUQ0CWpr74gRn-_A Other Links: www.twitter.com/RevoloverAudio www.anchor.fm/AlbumConceptHour www.twitter.com/AlbumConceptPod www.myspace.com/AlbumConceptHour www.ko-fi.com/RevoloverAudio --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/albumconcepthour/support

NOTE: This was also cross posted in the otakugeneration LJ community. Shownotes :: (show 052) :: (website) :: (podcast feed) :: (direct download) :: (direct iTunes link) With Peter Payne!!!! ...recorded live on June 5th, 2006. This week we talked with Peter Payne the founder of the websites J-List and J-Box. We talked about the history of the websites, and some of the strangest things people buy, and request. We had a bunch of OG scouts checking in, via voicemail. So join us this week for our 52nd show, and for more fun and excitement! The OtakuGeneration.net Podcast will be live and in-person at AnimeNEXT... we be recording our show live for coresponding wednesday, plus will be hosting a panel on podcasting. This will be a good chance to ask us all your podcasting questions in person. We'd love to meet and hang out with any of our fans who can make it! Plus there might be some OG swag to give out (still working on that)... anyhow stay tuned for more information about OG live at AnimeNEXT For the 53rd show (1 year anniversary show) We're requesting people to call in (voicemail, MP3 feedback), and give us a "Happy 1 Year Birthday" shout-out to be played during the cast, next week! Don't be nasty, or rude... this might not last as a segment idea, but we thought we'd give it a try. OG "guess the character in the envelope" Contest The papercraft contest was too hard, no one made the deadline, so Bryce had a really good idea this week, for a contest. The cast has picked an anime character, wrote it down on a piece of paper, and sealed it up in an envelope. You the listener must figure out who the "character in the envelope" is... For this first week we just made the announcement of the contest. The prize will be a pack of goodies, a Lisa Ray CD, a T-Shirt from J-List, and maybe something more *hint*hint*cough*... So you ask what are the rules? Well they're pretty simple. First off, we will only accept one guess per email, once a week. If you put more than one guess, in an email, we will only take the first guess. You cannot enter more then once an week, and not more then once per email. Please pay attention to the use of the word "character", it could be a person, animal, car, mech, bryce, paul, a tree, a rock (assuming they are portrayed as "character" some how), almost anything. Each week will reveal a little more about the "character in the envelope" in an anime, until some one guesses it right, and wins. As usual listen to the show for more details, and email your guesses to: otaku.generation@gmail.com, and use the subject line of: OG CHARACTER IN THE ENVELOPE CONTEST Weekly News by Bryce :: (news@otakugeneration.net) NEW update for Final Fantasy XI Robo Reb goes to school Square Melons?
