Send us a textWhat if modern society is hurtling towards decadence just like the Roman Empire, yet we remain blissfully unaware of it? Join us as we embark on a journey with the Regrettable Brothers, Chris and Jason, to explore this possibility and unravel the complexities of societal progress through a Marxist lens. We bring you an insightful discussion that contrasts the lack of unifying structures in today's capitalist excess, with the historical context of the Roman era's Catholic Church. With references to historical thinkers like Jacques Barzun and Giambattista Vico, we challenge the idea that technological advancement equates to moral and societal progress. Our conversation takes a provocative turn as we examine theories of social decay and revival, weaving through Marxist perspectives and historical milestones like the Protestant Reformation and the fall of the Byzantine Empire. We scrutinize the evolution of capitalist theory, delving into the continuity of monopolistic practices and the critiques of Marx's views on capitalism's origins. Alongside our guests, we question the very fabric of modern society, examining economic stagnation, technological decay, and the specter of capitalist decadence. From theories of surplus value to the revolutionary role of the proletariat, we leave no stone unturned in our quest for insight. Finally, we turn our attention to cultural decline, economic stagnation, and the complexities of nationalism in Eastern Europe. Our guests, Jason Moore and Phil Neal, offer perspectives on modern economies, labor rights, and the illusion of meritocracy. We also tackle the intricate tapestry of ethnic identity and nationalism in post-Slavic regions, navigating sensitive topics with a blend of humor and critical reflection. This episode promises a comprehensive exploration of historical transitions and their theoretical underpinnings, providing a rich tapestry of ideas that will leave you questioning the state of our modern world.Sources: Morley, Neville. Following Alan Ball's resignation, Steve Coppell, Phil Neal, and Asa Hartford all briefly held the position of manager. In December 1996, City appointed Frank Clark to try and halt the slide down the leagues. In his short spell in charge, he wasn't able to put the brakes on - David Mooney spoke to the former manager in 2013 to discuss what went wrong during his time in the Maine Road dugout. Addressing equity with a focus on the human connection within the student experience, he views higher education through a lens of human growth and development. I believe in it wholeheartedly. The key to student success is when we engage with each other in ways that are meaningful and supportive so that we all move forward in better ways.” “When you believe in people and you set high expectations, they will rise to the occasion. And every student has some different challenges or strengths in life, and we've got to be there to help them along, but if you don't set the bar high for people, achievable but high, they don't think you believe in them.” OTHER RESOURCES: Learn more about CCCSE at: cccse.org Meet Dr. Linda García, Executive Director for the Center for Community College Student Engagement: diverseeducation.com/podcasts/podcast/15109685/meet-dr-linda-garca-executive-director-for-the-center-for-community-college-student-engagement Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College Leadership (SKYCTC): kctcs.edu PRODUCTS / RESOURCES: Visit the Diverse: Issues In Higher Education website: diverseeducation.com Or follow us on social media: Twitter: twitter.com/diverseissues Instagram: instagram.com/diverseissuesinhighereducation Facebook: facebook.com/DiverseJobs?_rdc=1&_rdr Linkedin: linkedin.com/company/diverse-issues-in-higher-education Transcription services are available upon request. Phil Neal une légende à tout jamais gravé dans l'histoire de Liverpool pour tout les fait marquant qu'il à eu dans se grande club anglais.
It's the end of season for all our clubs, but it does allow us to ask, after a dramatic last game of the season, should Derby now be relegated? Do these two draws prove that the Championship the best league in the world? What's it like to be involved in last ditch escapes? And of course, Stephen can't resist bringing up Nigel Pepper's amazing free kick again. In relegation news, sorry, no Big Sam this week, but we do discuss our other regular topic, Joey Barton. Is he shit? Is a second Bristol Rovers relegation worth a bet? We also look at Sunderland's wonderful unravelling in the famous Netflix documentary and Darron Gibson's mobile phone meltdown. In League Two news, we cover Bolton's non-scoring promotion push, Bradford City's non-winning end of season, Salford's massive budget, wonder if Oldham Athletic is the most exciting team in the world, and find out in which socialist utopia the People's Pension Stadium is (it's Crawley).Over here in the EU, we look at at the title race in Ligue Un, the perilous financial state of Real Madrid & Barcelona and ask if the Super League was an existential question, and translate "Burnley" into every league and find out it means shit everywhere. And there is also talk of Phil Parkinson and National League finances and playoffs. Plus we end the episode with talk of managerial inspiration featuring Phil Neal at Bolton, Bryan Robson at Middlesborough and get some hands-on motivation from Ryan Giggs' stimulating teamtalk and Michael Owen's gripping helicopter tour of Dubai. It's been a tumultuous week for U.S politics so naturally WALOC is at hand to ponder which Cobblers player you'd want at your side when storming the Northampton Guildhall.Martin's Manic Minor baseball quiz is back and he tries to work out if the San Quentin Grande Quim are plying their trade in Baseball or basketball or maybe completely made up.Andy gets tested on his knowledge of South American stadia and Tom's Spanish is pushed to the limits in the new alto o bajo game. Brendan's brain goes into overdrive when figuring out if player's names are Cobblers players of the 1970's or members of the seminal pop combo Showaddywaddy. Finally Ian is up against it when quizzed on the menu from his favourite Northampton restaurant Chilli Village.Ian also talks about his dad's mate Phil Neal. You might have heard of him. “Insecurity drives improvement” with Phil Neal In this episode, we had the amazing opportunity to chat with one of (if not THE) most prolific EdTech entrepreneurs in the UK: Phil Neal. For any listeners who went to school in the UK in the last 30 years, there’s a very good chance you’ve used or been exposed to Phil’s software. Phil is the brains behind the SIMS Management Information System, used in over 80% of (or 20,000!) schools in the UK. It’s reached many 10s of millions of users, and also has an international presence across 50 countries around the globe. As a teacher in his earlier years, Phil, like many entrepreneurs, had an ‘itch of his own to scratch’ - the outcome, a system that soon caught the attention of multiple school groups and councils, and some years later, the attention of Capita who eventually acquired SIMS. To scale any business to that size is unbelievable impressive, to do it in a market as challenging as the UK education sector is even more impressive. In this episode we discuss: Scaling and huge growth Finding the right partner for acquisition Appetite for risk and spotting opportunities Focusing on the benefits you’re providing Smart pricing strategies Picking the right founding team And as always, plenty more…
