A dreadful first-half performance saw the Reds behind to Will Smallbone's opener before a Darwin Nunez equaliser and Mohamed Salah penalty within a minute of each other shortly after the break turned the game on its head, with Salah netting another spot kick late on. There are few people better placed to talk us through the art of goalscoring than the man who did so on 476 occasions during his career. John Aldridge lived the dream; going from Kop fanatic to wearing the famous red shirt with his hero's number on his back and becoming a Liverpool icon in his own right. In the second episode of season 2, Aldo talks us through how the transfer of a lifetime came about the morning of a big cup game, the confidence and nerves he had walking into a dressing room packed with Reds legends but how, ultimately, his knack of goalscoring came naturally. We also discover the quirk of fate that took him from suffering Wembley heartache in 1988, to feeling utter jubilation 12 months later, which of the hundreds of goals he scored is the one he'd pick to experience all over again and how he won over the hearts of Real Sociedad fans after leaving Anfield.

It's back! Yes, that's right, the start of a new series of FANS is here, and what a start it is as Sachin is joined by the brilliant BBC commentator Steve Wilson for a chat about Tranmere Rovers. Steve is in typically articulate and engaging form as he discusses the club he was born to support having grown up in the shadow of Prenton Park – Tranmere's ground and, as Steve makes clear, one that is NOT in Liverpool. His first trip there was in January 1975 and there are memories of the sights, sounds and smells of the occasion – a Third Division game against Grimsby that, as was typical of following Tranmere at the time, took place on a Friday night. Steve was hooked and about to embark on a journey of extreme highs and lows. There have been financial difficulties and multiple relegations to contend with as a ‘Trannie' fan during the past 40 years or so but also the glorious, never-to-be-forgotten reigns of Johnny King and John Aldridge. Steve speaks with great warmth about the success both men brought to Tranmere as well as with great humour about his personal interactions with each of them. His story about interviewing Aldridge for Football Focus is especially wonderful. Speaking of ‘the Aldridge Years', Steve also reflects on the three iconic matches Tranmere played under their former player-manager in the early noughties, and in particular the 4-3 victory over Southampton in February 2001. Steve was at Prenton Park that night commentating for BBC Five Live and speaks with fascinating insight and honesty about the experience. Finally, there is a chat about modern-day Tranmere and how the club appears to be in good hands thanks to the presence of two former players in Mark Palios and Micky Mellon. And speaking of former players, Steve also talks through his all-time Tranmere XI, which includes a place for one of his BBC colleagues. And no, it's not Dan Walker. So download, listen and love. And after you have, please Rate and Review. It would mean a lot. Cheers!

In Aldo's opinion Hunt was the best striker Liverpool ever has had. «We all wanted to be Roger Hunt in the streets. We loved him. And we got to know him, we were in awe of the man.» It has been a hugely emotional week after the passing of Hunt. He was a God. In this week's podcast two of Liverpool's fine strikers honour Sir Roger. We also look back at the Brentford match and they give us an insight in how to become more lethal goal scorers (with some advice to Salah and the boys), we also wrap up Porto and look ahead at Manchester City at home. Enjoy!

Episode 62  Then importance of positive influences.   Alan Mahon moved to Birkenhead as a teenager, turning down offers from Chelsea and Middlesborough amongst others. Heavily influenced by his Father, Alan wanted to move somewhere where his first team opportunities would be plentiful. At the time, Tranmere were a high flying Division 1 (championship) side, and had players in their ranks such as Pat Nevin, John Aldridge, and Liam O'Brien. During his five years with Tranmere, Alan played over 100 times, and was a crucial part of the 1999/2000 team that reacher a Worthington Cup Final, and Fa Cup 1/4 final.  Mahon moved to Lisbon, playing in the champions league, before returning to England and appearing for Blackburn, Wigan, Burnley, Ipswich, Cardiff and Blackpool, before returning to Prenton Park in 2009. What felt like a fairytale return to the club, quickly turned sour as the clubs performances on the pitch under manager John Barnes saw the club floundering at the bottom of the table.  By 2011, Alan Mahon had hung up his boots, and terminated his contract with Tranmere 12 months early. The loss of his father, combined with the difficulty he was having competing physically, Alan decided he didn't want to be blocking the path for young players like Aaron Cresswell if he had nothing to contribute. Alan spent some years out of the game before returning as a coach at Manchester City women's team, stepping is as interim manager last year before resuming his current role as assistant to former Tranmere man Gareth Taylor.  If you enjoy this episode, or any of our other episodes, please pop over to apple podcasts, and give us a rating and a review.  https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/man-marking/id1506661828 You can find us on Twitter @marking_man and don't forget to use the hashtag #WheresTheTalkingLads  If you have been affected by any of the themes discussed in today's episode, we have listed some organisations below who are there if you need to talk: Samaritans  Call 116 132 for free https://www.samaritans.org/ Papyrus UK Call 0800 068 41 41 Papyrus Website CALM ZONE 0800 58 58 58 https://www.thecalmzone.net/help/helpline/ MIND 0300 123 3393 https://www.mind.org.uk/ The Kaleidoscope Plus Group 0800 059 0123 https://www.kaleidoscopeplus.org.uk/

John Aldridge, a 45-year old lobster fisherman from Long Island, flew off the back of his boat when a plastic handle supporting a box hook snapped with the power of his pull. He grabbed at the side of the boat, missing it by inches before landing in the water at 3:30 am, alone and stunned, as the boat sped away with his partner sleeping in his cabin. They were 40 miles off the coast of Montauk, Long Island. First, yelling, then panic, then silence before he allowed himself to think he was going to die.
