Neil Fitzmaurice is joined by the Liverpool ECHO’s Paul Gorst and Joe Rimmer for his latest Poetry in Motion podcast. After a tribute to Ian St John, and a brilliant story involving Bill Shankly, Fitzy talks Fabinho, who Gorsty calls Liverpool’s most important player, and Diogo Jota, whose winner at his former club Wolves on Monday got the defending champions back on track in the Premier League. But while Jota has hit the ground running following his return from injury, what’s going on with Sadio Mane in front of goal? The panel discuss that, ask if Thiago Alcantara takes too much stick, and wonder whether Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak could become unlikely Anfield heroes in the vein of some of those players that won No 5 in Istanbul in 2005. John and Donald are on the latest podcast as they discuss what's been going on in Scottish football. Recording starts around the same time that Aberdeen confirm that Derek McInnes has left the club. They discuss his time at the club and whether he maybe stayed for too long. Neil Lennon recently left Celtic and we discuss that too. There is more positive news for a couple of clubs as since our last podcast, St Johnstone won the League Cup and Rangers clinched the Scottish Premiership. At the bottom end of the table it's not looking good for Kilmarnock though. Our chosen theme this week is football films and documentaries. Donald and John were both lucky enough to see the new Alex Ferguson film, Never Give In at the weekend which is a tremendous watch. We discuss some of our favourites and recommendations from our listeners. We pay tribute to the late Ian St John after his recent passing away and our memories of him on Saint and Greavsie. The podcast concludes as we celebrate International Women's Day and the success of women in Scottish football. I read today the footballer Ian St John has died. Before I carry on, I am going to point out that I hate football. So why have I posted this news? The reason I have posted it, is because a few years ago he co presented a UK TV show called the Saint and Greavsie football show. A show I lived. For me, this show he presented with Jimmy Greaves was one of the funniest shows ever. They simply would go off script and talk about anything they wanted. In many ways this was the format of a podcast show. If you get a chance, go on such as YouTube and watch these two in action. The fact I hate football yet would not miss this show, clearly shows that if your good enough on your podcast people may listen even if they are not interested in the subject. Over the years, I have concluded that there are very few who have such talent to do such a show. The other two are James Whale who is still going, but would do a radio show based in Yorkshire, UK on Radio Air. They converted it once a week to TV on Yorkshire Television, but it was never as good as when he did the show on radio. People would phone in just to be insulted by him. I would often stay up till 1am to listen and would always be late for school. I have not found his old radio shows online but you can find his old TV shows. The other is Howard Stern. He has a magical way, but in fairness, I often feel Robin Quivers makes the show. In time I plan to listen to podcasts, and find who I think is great on them. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/clubpod/message

Episode 25 kicks off with the sad news of Liverpool legend Ian St John’s passing and the lads discuss the memories they have of him. The blues, Ian Mills and Gary Judge begin by discussing the news that the new stadium at Bramley Moore took a step closer this week with only the governments decision standing in the way of the building starting. The reds, Gary Murray and Phil Roberts, start the previews this week looking back at their 2-0 victory away to league strugglers Sheff Utd where they compare opinions on Curtis Jones, Bobby Firmino and Ozan Kabak. The blue side then look at their 1-0 home victory against Southampton where they agreed it was a much needed “ugly” win. They compare notes on Richarlison, the returning Allan and the continued form of Gylfi Sigurdsson. This week in history sees the reds fondly remember their 2-0 victory in the 2003 Worthington Cup Final against bitter rivals Man Utd whilst the blues look back at confirmation of Farhad Moshiri purchasing 49.9% of Bill Kenwright's shares back in 2016 and the impact Moshiri has had on the club since. The lads try out a new feature, “who am I?” for players from both side of the park before the previews of the upcoming games round off the show. Liverpool have home games against Chelsea on Thursday and Fulham on Sunday while Everton travel to former manager Sam Allardyce’s West Brom on Thursday before a trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea on Monday Night.

This painting is the second version of A ploughing scene in Suffolk (A summerland). The owner of the first version of 1814 , John Allnutt, a Clapham wine merchant and collector, became unhappy with the sky in his painting and asked another artist, John Linnell, to overpaint it. Some years later, around 1825, Allnutt admitted: ‘I was foolish enough’ to have Constable’s original sky ‘obliterated’ and that, ‘though extremely beautiful’, the new sky ‘did not quite harmonize with the other parts of the picture’ (Beckett I, p. 83). He asked Constable to restore the original sky and, ‘if he could do it without injury to the picture’ reduce the height of the painting to match another work in his collection (Augustus Callcott, Open landscape: Sheep grazing c.1812, York City Art Gallery). Graciously, Constable took back Allnutt’s pictureand painted a second and slightly smaller version for him – this painting. He did this free of charge because he was grateful to Allnutt for ‘buying the first picture he ever sold to a stranger’ (Beckett I, p. 83). Constable, or his assistant Dunthorne, made extensive underdrawing on this canvas, working directly from the 1814 original, following the first version closely. He gave this painting a cooler tonality, and added the rain falling in the distance. Ian St John has suggested that the bird hovering in the sky is ‘a bird of prey such as a kestrel or sparrowhawk, birds still common in the vale’ (St John 2005, p. 31). The work was finished before January 1825 when Allnutt visited Constable’s studio to view the new version. Allnutt visitedagain the following year, when he brought a present of three sorts of a particularly beautiful ultramarine, which was a generous gift, as the pigment was a rare luxury. In October 1826 Constable visited Allnutt at Clapham and spent an enjoyable day with the Allnutt family, viewing their picture collection and taking a walk on Clapham Common. He wrote in his journal on his return that ‘Nothing could be more polite & kind’, and observed that ‘the truth is I could find that he has been much imposed on by artists in general – & that he was pleased with my conduct’ (Beckett I, p. 85). After Constable’s death Allnutt continued to purchase his works, including pictures from the Constable sale in 1838: Salisbury Cathedral from the Bishop’s Grounds 1820(National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa) and Helmington Dell 1830 (Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Kansas City, Missouri)(Beckett I, p. 85).
