Host Carl Jones is joined by actor, comedian and Manchester United fan Marv Dickinson and comedia, Aston Villa fan and host of World Cup of World Cups and World Cup of Euros, James Cook to relive the 1998/99 season. There's the return of David Beckham from France '98 as public enemy number one, Paulo Di Canio pushing over a referee, John Hartson volleying a teammate in the head. Roy Evans budges up for Gerard Houllier in the Liverpool dugout, Big Ron takes his place in the wrong one and Brian Kidd waves goodbye to his seat on the bench at the beginnings of one of the greatest seasons recorded in club football to take Blackburn down instead. Dwight Yorke narrowly avoids being shot by John Gregory, David Unsworth avoids him altogether and Duncan Ferguson becomes the first (and last) player to represent Newcastle United with an Everton crest tattooed on them. There's also some great trivia, hilarious anecodotes and a slightly sombre greatest ever Premier League Cameroonian for reasons that will become apparent.  Enjoyed the show? Please subscribe, leave us a 5* review, subscribe on YouTube for video episodes and additional content and pass the pod to anyone who you think will enjoy it. The Chief Medical Officer, in their annual report, presents to Government information or ‘surveillance' about the health of England's population, offering recommendations to both government and individual organisations as to how to improve the public health system. In his 2021 report, published in July, Chris Whitty chose to report on health in coastal communities. It concluded that: There are many reasons for poor health outcomes in coastal communities. The pleasant environment attracts older, retired citizens to settle, who inevitably have more and increasing health problems. An oversupply of guest housing has led to Houses of Multiple Occupation which lead to concentrations of deprivation and ill health. The sea is a benefit but also a barrier: attracting NHS and social care staff to peripheral areas is harder, catchment areas for health services are artificially foreshortened and transport is often limited, in turn limiting job opportunities. Many coastal communities were created around a single industry such as previous versions of tourism, or fishing, or port work that have since moved on, meaning work can often be scarce or seasonal. Physical and natural environment? Demography? Housing? Transport? Employment? This, Sam Stafford thought, sounded like a good subject for exploration on a town planning-based podcast. What are the particular issues associated with planning for coastal communities? What distinguishes a successful coastal town from a less successful one? And what role does the planning system have in determining these outcomes? Sam puts these questions to Louise Wood (@LWood_Cornwall), Service Director for Planning at Cornwall Council; Christopher Balch (@balchplyuni), Emeritus Professor at the University of Plymouth and Non-Executive Director at the Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust; and Warren Lever (@ShapeThePlace), Senior Conservation & Design Officer at New Forest District Council. This weeks show begins with the red half of the show, Terry McGivern and Gary Murray, finally being able to discuss a victory at Anfield again after Liverpool best Southampton 2-0. The blues, Ian Mills and Gary Judge, follow this by agreeing they’ve been “sucked back in” after Everton come away from The London Stadium with a 0-1 against West Ham. There is a social media section which sees questions to the blues about brands and Davies/ Gomes whereas the reds face a question on the front four and how they work/ don’t work with each other. There is a question for a bit of fun which includes both sides discussing a potential player swap. This weeks look back in history see the blues look back to a club legend retiring in 2006. The reds look back to 1998 and Roy Evans’ solo spell as manager coming to an end after a defeat to Derby County which seen Gerard Houllier join the club as joint manager. Next is a brief game of higher or lower where Judgey uses more of from this season as opposed to more historic statistics. Finally, the previews begin with the reds talking over the importance of two away victories against Man Utd on Thursday and West Brom on Sunday and the blues end the show with a look at the two home games against Aston Villa and Sheff Utd and the potential of securing European football for next season.

It was a Liverpool career cruelly cut short by injury. But Vegard Heggem is able to appreciate what he did achieve rather than dwell on what might have been.Nearly 15 years after he was forced to retire at the age of 27, the former Norway right-back's bond with the club remains as strong as ever. The 42-year-old discusses the journey which led him to Anfield prior to Liverpool paying £3.5million to sign him from Rosenborg in 1998.He talks about the experience of having joint managers in Roy Evans and Gerard Houllier before the Frenchman assumed sole control.Heggem, who featured prominently for two seasons under Houllier, speaks about the highs and the lows of his career, and explains why David Ginola was his toughest opponent. He was part of the Liverpool squad which won an historic Treble in 2001 but a succession of injury setback limited his game time and led to his retirement in 2003.
