Welcome dear listener to the third episode of the 6th season of the pod. I'm Paul and I am joined by Daz, and Enrique. And we are away for 2024-5 - on the 50th anniversary of Bob Paisley's first game as Liverpool manager, Reds go to Portman Road and win 2-0. We will go into detail on the game, we will preview Brentford and we will look elsewhere at the weekend and what else is happening in the footy world. Part One - Ipswich away: Very pragmatic - play in long if they man mark Xg - Ipswich, 0.45 total, 0.31 First half, 0.28 set plays. Liverpool 2.65 with 0.45 in the first half. Touches in opposition box, 50 to 17 (7-7 at the half). First Half: Ipswich didn't lose at home last season, crowd was up for it,  -ve some hesitancy. MacAllister wasn't really in it. Lot of soft fouls - foul every 2 minutes? Disruptive. Won 41% of the duels (54% in the second half) Formation - definite 4-2-3-1 to start, evolved 3-3-4 at times. +ve defensive solidity, started to create some chances towards the end of the half ZERO shots on target (3 total) Second half Konate replaces Quansah Wow, that movement and passing (especially one touch). They found gaps with movement, yet they won some duels… Goals were beautiful, Salah, Jota, TAA, Szobozlai, Gravenberch, VVD playing a part Some of the misses were beautiful Had other chances - Salah, Diaz game management - no shots from Ipswich after 68 minutes, and we would have scored again. Part Two - previewing Brentford: Team selection - same again? Konate? Brentford - what do we know about them? Predictions Part Three - Elsewhere: (Of the EPL winners of the last 11 seasons only 1 - us - is not under investigation for breaking spending rules)  Transfers: 2 weeks left for our transfers - reflections on our needs and some of the weirdness elsewhere We will be back next week with a review of the Brentford game. Matthew Le Tissier recalls his bruising encounters with Arsenal hard man Martin Keown from his 'Top 5 Toughest Opponents' episode, what made Keown so annoying to play against and how it felt scoring against the Gunners in the final game at The Dell. Phil Thompson talks about losing the Liverpool captaincy to Graeme Souness, how he found out about it from his team-mates and what happened when he confronted their legendary manager Bob Paisley. Joleon Lescott explains why many Manchester City players were happy to see Roberto Mancini leave the club in 2013, despite the success they'd enjoyed together including their epic Premier League title win the year before.

Walks in. Complete hush, respect... Where's Alan Kennedy? And one of the lads had gone, 'Oh, he's over here.' So, Bob strolled over and looked at him, and he said, 'Do you know what, Alan? They shot the wrong fucking Kennedy.'"  "I'd get slaughtered sometimes, fair enough, doesn't particularly bother me. And then I'd meet somebody and then they say to me, 'Oh you're completely different from what you, when you're commentating,' and I go, 'No I'm not. I'm just the same.'"  "One of the problems with the BBC was that they don't really understand things like you've been a footballer and sometimes you get left out. And you get taken off the pitch. And it's as though they can't tell you the bad news."  "My biggest disruption was my mum leaving us... We never knew. My mum always said to us, 'You, I'll never tell you what happened, but you would have done the same thing.'" "Robert Maxwell owns Derby, Kevin Maxwell owns Oxford... What makes a great leader in football? Thats's the question Jeff is asking former Liverpool captain Phil Thompson on this week's episode of the pod. Thommo was himself a born leader, who lifted the European Cup as captain in 1981. He talks about how Bill Shankly mapped out his entire career and the time Bob Paisley gave him his biggest rollicking, the best leaders he played with and why captaincy seems to matter more in the UK. He also reveals: the player that scared him the most how he pranked an England legend into believing he was joining Liverpool what he really thought about Alex Ferguson's great Manchester United sides Phil also talks about some of his lowest moments, including losing the captaincy at Liverpool to Graeme Souness and being overlooked to be England skipper at the 1982 World Cup, and recalls why Steve Gerrard took the armband from Sami Hyypia at Anfield and his emotional team talk before his first match as Liverpool's caretaker manager. Reaction to the news that Jurgen Klopp is leaving. On the momentous day that Jurgen Klopp announced this would be his last season as Liverpool boss, a stunned Jim Boardman and Jay Reid tried to make sense of it all while it was all still a bit raw. It'll probably feel raw for a while yet. The news came out of nowhere, Liverpool fans were now counting the days until the departure of a man who had brought so much happiness and pride back to the club. The news drew parallels with the day Bill Shankly's retirement was announced in 1974, and that famous piece from Granada Reports with Tony Wilson getting instant reaction from Reds around town, one lad thinking it was all a bluff: “Yer having me on aren't yer?” Fast forward almost 50 years and those reactions are the same, for a different generation of Red. The last time we faced anything like this was when King Kenny called time on the job back in 1991, the strain of the aftermath of Hillsborough playing a part in the exhaustion that made him so desperate for a break from the game. In 1974 we got Bob Paisley in for Bill Shankly and the success continued and increased. When Kenny left, the years that followed were mostly miserable as far as success on the field was concerned, aside from brief moments of bliss, like in 2001 and 2005. Klopp's announcement felt like a real body blow, like losing a much-loved family member, and now fans are left wondering what the future holds. As far as Klopp is concerned the focus has to switch back to the near future, the visit of Norwich in the cup before Chelsea in the league, and although that's going to be easier said than done for the fans, we are Liverpool and we know how to give good people a good send off, so here's to enjoying every last minute of the Jurgen Klopp era. Here's hoping it ends with him on an open-top bus parading four trophies around the city. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Her kan du høre alle episodene i én fil. Musikk:Intro og avslutningsmusikk: The Epic 2 by Rafael KruxLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/5384-the-epic-2-License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Music promoted on https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Piano Sad 2 (Piano & Strings Version) by PeriTune | http://peritune.comAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Music promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/ Into The Blue Sky by Keys of Moon | https://soundcloud.com/keysofmoonMusic promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Creative Commons CC BY 4.0https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Intervention by Scott Buckley | www.scottbuckley.com.auMusic promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/White Petals by Keys of Moon | https://soundcloud.com/keysofmoonAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Music promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/ Filaments by Scott Buckley | www.scottbuckley.com.auMusic promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Creative Commons CC BY 4.0https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Hosted on Acast. Musikk:Intro og avslutningsmusikk: The Epic 2 by Rafael KruxLink: https://filmmusic.io/song/5384-the-epic-2-License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Music promoted on https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Piano Sad 2 (Piano & Strings Version) by PeriTune | http://peritune.comAttribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Music promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/ Into The Blue Sky by Keys of Moon | https://soundcloud.com/keysofmoonMusic promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/Creative Commons CC BY 4.0https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Hosted on Acast. The ninth of a ten part series based on a book by Phil Denton and Micky Mellon, ‘The First 100 Days ; Lessons In Leadership From The Football Bosses.' They will donate all proceeds to the Len Johnrose Trust which will help in the fight against motor neurone disease and that's a good enough reason to buy this book. It is, however, a brilliant book jam packed with wisdom on the art of management and Rob is going to introduce you to it over the next ten episodes.  KEY TAKEAWAYS Episode 9 of The First 100 Days is about looking after yourself as the Manager.   There is nothing so difficult, unnatural and uncomfortable than trying to be something that you are not. Act on and use your strengths and vulnerabilities and create your team to support those.  Keep your life in balance. Do not destroy yourself by achieving your goals. Make sure you have recovery time and do not sacrifice your relationships. B.E.S.T. Breathe, Eat, Sleep, Train. Pay attention and keep yourself healthy. Delegate to others. You cannot control and micromanage everything. Create plans and mechanisms to circumvent and deal with bad outcomes.  Give yourself a limited ‘hippo time' to wallow in the mud, then S.U.M.O, Shut Up and Move On.   BEST MOMENTS‘The stresses and strains of  this particular industry and niche are well documented and if you do not look after yourself there will soon be a downturn in fortune whether that's physical health, mental health, relationship breakdown or something of that nature.' ‘The overriding point here is to know yourself, be yourself. Do not try to be Jose Mourinho, do not try to be Bob Paisley, Bill Shankly, Sir Alex. You have to be yourself.'  ‘Eat well. Eat the correct things. Whatever suits you and whatever you know and whatever you're guided to.'‘Consider a bad outcome. Consider what can go wrong before it happens and put in place plans to make sure it doesn't and have a strategy to deal with it if it does.'  BUY THE BOOK!!The First 100 days ; Lessons in Leadership From the Football Bosseshttps://g.co/kgs/wmX3ucAmazonhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/First-100-Days-Leadership-Football/dp/1911613979Waterstoneshttps://www.waterstones.com/book/the-first-100-days-lessons-in-leadership-from-the-football-bosses/phil-denton/micky-mellon/9781911613978 VALUABLE RESOURCESLeader Manager Coach Podcast    ABOUT THE HOSTRob Ryles is a UEFA A licensed coach with a League Managers Association qualification and a science and medicine background. Bob Paisley OBE  was an English professional football manager and player who played as a wing-half. He spent almost 50 years with Liverpool and is regarded, due to his achievements with the club, as one of the greatest British managers of all time. Rob talks about this icon in this episode with essential lessons that can be used from the great mans career.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Bob Paisley followed Bill Shankly into the manager position at Liverpool. In 1974 after the FA Cup Final win and Bob was offered the job he initially refused it. Bob was not a great communicator according to a significant number of players, so much so that his team talks were faltering and littered with forgotten names.    He recruited Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen and Graham Souness, three of the top players around at that time. His success was largely due to his trust in his team, his knowledge of the people he worked with and his drive to constantly improve.  BEST MOMENTS   ‘There's so much to talk about with Bob, although it could be said that he was a very simple man. I'm not actually sure whether Bob would have been as successful now as he was in his own time.' ‘There was almost an air of the players making it up themselves and its absolutely phenomenal.' ‘The thing that goes through all this, that created his success is that he  knew the game so well, he knew players and he knew what players could do and what he wanted.' ‘I thinks its an example of Bob's and Liverpool's belief in themselves and the way that they were doing it and I think the success that they were having at that time.'   VALUABLE RESOURCES   Leader Manager Coach Podcast      ABOUT THE HOST   Rob Ryles is a UEFA A licensed coach with a League Managers Association qualification and a science and medicine background. Welcome to another episode of OTTplay Lost and Found, im your host Nikhil. The world's most popular sport, football, has produced captivating stories over the decades. From South America to Europe and to the Far East, inspirational stories about footballers, managers, and teams that broke barriers have reverberated across the world. But the story of football manager Brian Clough and his rise to the very top of English football is often less talked about outside the British Isles. The incredible stories of Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Matt Busby, Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, and Sir Bobby Robson have been etched in football folklore, thanks to their association with global football clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Barcelona. However, despite having never managed footballing powerhouses such as the aforementioned clubs, Brian Clough created history by taking relatively lesser-known clubs such as Derby County and Nottingham Forest from obscurity to title winners. The Damned United, directed by Tom Hooper, chronicles the life of the charismatic yet controversial figure of Brian Clough and his rivalry with Don Revie. The film begins in the late ‘60s with Clough as manager of the lower league side Derby County, as he is preparing to welcome the Top Division champions Leeds United, and their manager Don Revie, to Derby for an FA Cup fixture. Revie's refusal to have a customary drink with the home team's manager after the match and the alleged disrespect shown by Leeds United sparked a fire within Clough. This would start a chain of events with Clough guiding Derby through the league divisions, climbing the football league tables, and finally dethroning Leeds as the champions of England. The film's primary focus is, however, on the 44-day period when Clough replaced Don Revie as the manager of Leeds. His troubled relationship with the players, whom he had once berated, was always going to end with him leaving Leeds United. The film describes in detail why Leeds United are regarded as the most hated champions in English football history. Michael Sheen essays this role of Brian Clough, supported by an excellent cast of Stephen Graham, Timothy Spall, and Colm Meaney. The film does not delve into Clough's success at Nottingham Forest, where he took them to back-to-back European Cup trophies. The film will keep one hooked from start to finish, as it navigates through the complexities of one of football's greatest managers. A man who legendary Manchester United captain Roy Keane referred to as the best he's played under in his illustrious career. If you havent watched this film yet then do so its streaming on Apple TV+ and Google Play moviesWell thats the OTTplay Lost and Found for today, until the next episode its your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poochoWritten by - Ryan Gomez

Hva betyr dette for Liverpool framover? 8:47: Bill Shankly og Bob Paisley bygget to storlag. Another fine victory for City. Our 4-0 win away at Newcastle on Sunday means our lead at the top of the Premier League has been extended to three points, after second-placed Liverpool drew 2-2 at Tottenham. It was another fine performance for City, who looked thoroughly comfortable throughout. Once again, the goals were spread around, with Dias, Cancelo, Mahrez and Sterling all getting on the scoresheet. The victory also saw City set two significant English football records. We have registered the most top-flight wins in a calendar year. This was our 34th of 2021, which eclipses the previous record of 33 which Liverpool managed under the great Bob Paisley back in 1982. We now have two more Premier League games – at home to Leicester and away to Brentford – to extend our record further. And it was our 18th away win in the league this year, more than any other top-flight side has managed in the history of English football. Indeed, our 18 wins means we surpass the previous record of 17 set by Bill Nicholson's doubling-winning Tottenham side of 1960-61, widely recognised as one of the finest this country has ever seen. Pep and his team continue to move the dial. After the game, we heard from Pep and Riyad Mahrez, and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Joleon Lescott and Paul Dickov.
