Have you ever said to yourself, “Marketing works for them, but it doesn’t work for me”? It’s a theme I hear over and over again, but in order to know if your marketing is working for you or not you have to have the tools in place to measure your success. On today’s episode, I’m going to introduce you to one of my favorite tools to measure the ROI of my marketing efforts called, “Pretty Links”. Pretty Links is a tool that allows you to: Create shorter, customized links from your website Share those links across your social platforms, videos, email. And, Track how many people have clicked on those links You’ll hear how I’ve used it in my business and I’m going to give you 2 examples of how I think it can benefit your online marketing efforts.

It's to know what is working for your audience. Sure you can look at your downloads but there are other ways to look at engagement. Today in episode 738 I dig deeper. Website Traffic How many website visitors are you getting? You may be surprised that your top ten pages on your website are the same as the top ten episodes of your podcast? Why, you might have more keywords in your notes that attract google. People may be linking to your episode which can boost "Google Juice" (your rankings). WHAT ABOUT TRANSCRIPTS? I was listening to The Business of Podcasting a great podcast with Charlie Valher from Valher media (Charlie will be on this show in the future), and he was interview Stephan Spencer who is one THE SEO people on the planet. While we often say, "This person wrote the book on..." Stephen actually wrote the book on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) The Art of SEO. It's 994 pages. Here is what he had to say about transcripts: But the key thing here is you're creating something in an audio format and although Google is getting better at taking that audio and doing something amazing with it, like turning that into searchable content on its own, you can't just rely on that. A lot of people don't have time to listen to podcasts and they like to just scan through articles, but nobody wants to read a transcript. Who's gonna get excited about reading a transcript with a bunch of the back and forth banter and not cutting to the chase? Having an article made out of the transcript, however, is a very powerful strategy and if you have an hour-long show or a half-hour-long show, that's a lot of textual content. -Stephen Spencer the Business of Podcasting show. Transcribed by https://otter.ai Google Analytics Google Analytics is a great free tool that enables you to pull insights about your website visitors. The best part is its free. It is very robust. There are ways you can flatten the learning curve with Google Analytics. One is to take the free course(s) offered by Google. One of my favorite tools that takes that data and creates easy to understand reports is Monster Insights. Check out the video on Monster Insights Tracking Clicks In WordPress, many people use a plugin that is free/premium called Pretty Links. There is a free version and the premium version starts at $49/year. It's been downloaded over 2.5 million times. Thirsty affiliates is a very similar plugin for about the same price ($49/year). If you want something even more powerful (especially for affiliate links) check out Lasso which can even check the stock at Amazon for your links, and much more. It starts at $19/month. URL Shortener Pro is only $19. The advantage of these plugins is they enable you to reinforce your brand's website while making an easy to remember. For example, www.schoolofpodcasting.com/subscribe will take you to my subscription page. If someone asks me where to subscribe, I have one link with all the apps. If someone asks about the Podpage service, they can go to www.schoolofpodcasting.com/podpage. For my Patreon account that I promote on the Ask the Podcast Coach show I use www.askthepodcastcoach.com/awesome What if you don't use WordPress? How Do You Track Clicks? bit.ly Many people use bit.ly which I did, but I found something that really changed my opinion of bit.ly. While you can setup a bit.ly link to point at a long URL that makes it easier to remember if later you want to change that link - you can't. This is why I started researching this topic. Then on August 13th, they added the feature to update a link see announcement. However, you have to pay for this feature ($35/month). Rebrandly One company called Rebrandly was started based on the pain point of "I can't change my destination URL in Bitly." With Rebrandly you can have up to 500 links and have up to 5000 clicks per month for free. You can have up to 5 custom domains. If you're looking for a free tool to track clicks this seems to be the tool. They have 550,000 happy customers. If You Want to Do More Track Clicks (Marketing?) Click.org Click.org allows you to do A/B Split testing, and you can have one link for people in one part of the world, and another link used for others in a different part. For marketing people it adds the tracking pixel. So now when you send someone to a website that is not yours, you can add a pixel to retarget them. This is much more of a marketing tool and may be overkill for those who want to just have a link to give to their audience. Pixle.me Pixle.me is all about retargeting. It is the primary feature you see when you go to their website. For example, you could send people to a post on Medium and then they would see your Facebook ads when they go about the Internet. They have a tool where you can send someone to an Amazon site (for example) and make YOUR email pop up box appear. While they have some fun marketing tools if you want to change the destination URL (the feature that launched this investigation) it will cost you $24 a month. I did like some of their tools, and when it comes to marketing and tracking (which somewhat keeps your brand in front of your audience) it seemed to be a clear winner. What You Can Learn? Here is a list of things you might want to track: A link in your email signature Links in your emails Links in your show notes. Your Instagram URL (instead of using some third-party service) Links to your subscribe buttons A general idea of how engaged your audience is with your content. Check How Far People Are Listening To Your Episode What do Apple, Google, Spotify, and Stitcher all have in common? They all provide extra stats that show you how far your audience is listening. Also, if you are using Anchor and allowed them to submit your show to directories "for you" you have given away this option (they don't tell you that when they offer to do you a "favor"). Here is a video from Apple Advertiser Practice Run Last week I talked about the Zoom Podtrack P4, and 84 people clicked on it (11% of my audience at the time), but nobody purchased it. As many people feel that 3-5% click rate is "great" this seems to be a very interesting product for my audience. My feeling is due to it not being available yet (and only available for pre-order) this may mess up my affiliate stats. By using an affiliate link, it has built-in click tracking and you can see how many units were sold. Amazon Associates is the largest affiliate program. The best thing is to find a product you like, and then see if the word "affiliates" or "partners" is at the bottom of their website. Sign up and promote it. As its a favorite product of yours, your sales pitch will be more heartfelt. Like the question to ask might be, ‘How many dry cleaners are in your town?’ Right? If they’ve been in business for more than a year, they’re probably profitable, and it’s not some crazy, innovative business model -- they do the same thing as the guy in the next strip mall over-- but, there’s enough business to go around. And I think in the case of the blue collar services -- the yard care and stuff -- there’s a growing demand, so you’re not necessarily taking market share from somebody else. It’s just a growing pie in general.” 23:40

Build a website in just 5 days (even if you're not techie) at www.free5daywebsitechallenge.com Already have a website? Take the Free "Jumpstart Your Website Traffic" marketing mini-course at www.jumpstartyourwebsitetraffic.com Leave a Review! A podcast website something you totally CAN do yourself, even if you’re not techie. I’m going to break down how to build a website for your podcast for you step-by-step and give you all the best resources to use your website to get more podcast listeners and subscribers! We’ll cover: Why your podcast should have its own website separate from your main website Must-have plugins & tools for your podcast website Building the foundation of your podcast website How to save time with your show notes and leverage them to get your podcast in front of more people – plus a free show notes checklist. How to create easy-to-say links for your podcast. How to use SEO to get more listeners. How to use your podcast website to get more subscribers. How to use your podcast to build your email list. A must-have tool and creative ways to get more podcast reviews. WHY YOUR PODCAST SHOULD HAVE ITS OWN WEBSITE SEPARATE FROM YOUR MAIN WEBSITE I get it… it’s super tempting to just create a podcast page on your main website and link it off to iTunes for people to subscribe. It’s also tempting to use the web page Libsyn creates for you for each episode, but WordPress is way more powerful when it comes to social sharing and SEO to market your podcast and increase your number of subscribers. You’re missing a huge opportunity to drive more traffic to your podcast with SEO and get more reach for every episode with automated social sharing when your podcast doesn’t have it’s very own website. How (and why) to build a website for your podcast. #podcast #wordpress It’s absolutely worth paying for a domain and hosting for your podcast, and you can get web hosting for your podcast website for just $2.95/month with Bluehost* when you use my affiliate link! MUST-HAVE PLUGINS AND TOOLS FOR YOUR PODCAST WEBSITE Self-Hosted WordPress* (I recommend Bluehost and you get a discount when you use my affiliate link). Divi by Elegant Themes* Canva for Work Simple Podcast Press WordPress Plugin Simple Podcast Press Get Reviews Social Warfare WordPress Plugin CoSchedule Yoast SEO WordPress Plugin Pretty Links WordPress Plugin Planoly Instagram Scheduling Linktree for Instagram BUILDING THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR PODCAST WEBSITE Building a website for your podcast is just like building any other website – you want to make sure you’ve got the right plugins in place and that you’re taking advantage of SEO and analytics and all the functionality that WordPress brings to the table. I’ve created a free course called the 5 Day Website Challenge that will teach you step by step over 5 days how to build the exact same website I build for my clients. Like, no step is left out. YES, GIVE ME FREE ACCESS TO THE 5 DAY WEBSITE CHALLENGE! One of the biggest questions people ask me when building a website for their podcast is, “What theme should I use for my podcast website?” and I recommend that you go with Divi by Elegant Themes* for a few reasons: If you don’t want to buy a third-party podcast player, Divi* has an audio player module that you drop into your blog post and then paste your Libsyn podcast episode URL and voila, you’ve got a built-in podcast player right on the episode page. You can create a layout for your show notes page and save it in the Divi* library. Then every time you go to publish a new episode on your site, most of the work is already done for you. I walk you through how to set up Divi* step-by-step inside the 5 Day Website Challenge. You’ll do a couple of extra things that I don’t cover in the 5 Day Website Challenge for your podcast website: If you decide to use a podcast player, you’ll add it right below your email opt-in form. Instead of describing your freebie in the content of your homepage, you’ll add the Divi* Blog module and feature the show notes for your latest episodes. And instead of writing blog posts, your posts will become your episode show notes. You’ll link to your main website (if you have one) from your navigation menu. You can use my podcast website, Pep Talks for Side Hustlers, as a model for yours! CREATING YOUR SHOW NOTES IN WORDPRESS There are two ways you can go about getting your show notes pages created – automated and manual. AUTOMATED: If you want to automate the creation of your show notes, you can add your show notes and podcast image to Libsyn (or wherever your podcast is hosted) and then use a plugin like Simple Podcast Press to automatically create a new blog post every time a new show is launched. I like this method because your show notes page creation is automated, BUT, I do recommend that you take a few extra steps to really optimize the show notes page for SEO & social media. So it’s not quite “set it and forget it,” but it’s pretty dang close. MANUAL: If you create your show notes page manually, it’s as simple as creating a new blog post for each episode. It doesn’t take that much longer, and you can do them in batches and schedule them to go live when your episode is going live. If you use Divi*, you can create a layout for your show notes page and save it to your Divi Library and load it up for each new episode. Add your chosen podcast to the post, then you can add your show notes and the images that you created in Canva to the post and to Social Warfare so that listeners can share your episodes out to their social networks. Add your keywords and a short description of your podcast episode to Yoast SEO, and then schedule the episode in Coschedule to automate social sharing. Set the post to publish on the date your episode goes live, and you’ve already done all the hard work to get your podcast out to the world. FREE PODCAST PUBLISHING CHECKLIST Enter your name and email address to get your free podcast publishing checklist sent straight to your inbox! Yes, send the checklist! Yes, I want to also get Shannon’s awesome weekly newsletter with super valuable content & offers to help me get more traffic, more subscribers and more customers. CREATING EASY-TO-SAY LINKS FOR YOUR PODCAST If you’re referencing a past podcast episode during your podcast, you’re not going to say “Go check out episode 68 at https://peptalksforsidehustlers.com/how-to-get-more-traffic-to-your-website/.” But if you simply change the main URL of your podcast episode to the episode number so that you’re saying “Go check out episode 68 at peptalksforsidehustlers.com/68,” you’re missing out on the SEO benefit you get from having keywords in your URLs! So what’s the solution? Pretty Links! This WordPress plugin lets you keep keywords in your main URL and create a pretty, easy-to-say link that forwards the listener to your show notes (or your affiliate links or your special offer). A must-have plugin for anyone with a podcast! USING SEO TO GET MORE PODCAST LISTENERS Don’t let iTunes be in control of your podcast’s visibility!Build a website for your podcast in just 5 days! Creating a show notes page with a keyword-rich episode title, URL, and episode description and then using Yoast SEO to set your focus keyword and meta description will help people searching for your topic find your podcast in Google search results. USING YOUR PODCAST WEBSITE TO GET MORE SUBSCRIBERS Using a podcast player like Smart Podcast Player or Simple Podcast Press will automatically add subscribe buttons for all the places your podcast is available, but you also want to add them strategically to the homepage of your podcast website and to the sidebar so that your visitors can’t miss them! USING YOUR PODCAST WEBSITE TO BUILD YOUR EMAIL LIST You can create a content upgrade for your podcast and put an email opt-in form for it on your podcast homepage. Mention this in every episode, and put an opt-in form for it in your sidebar as well as a popup on your show notes pages. I show you how to create email opt-in form inside the 5 Day Website Challenge. Using a podcast player like Smart Podcast Player or Simple Podcast Press will also let you add email subscription forms to your player. Make sure you’re following GDPR guidelines to get consent if you plan to send future emails out with your latest episodes or special offers!

http://fb-domination.com/100k-fans Transcription: Today I want to share with you a really cool WordPress plugin. Hey, it's Brett Campbell here, creator and founder of the Authority Academy and today I want to share with you a really cool WordPress plugin. The plugin is called Pretty Links. The purpose of this plugin is it's actually really, really cool and I've only really just discovered it myself. Now you may have heard of another website called Bitly, which basically is a URL masker, which basically takes a really long URL and you're able to turn it into a more prettier, smaller condensed-style link, so for example, you might have an affiliate link or you might have, even for example, your Facebook URL, right? Instead of going Facebook.com/ whatever your fan page name is, the Pretty Link plugin allows you to use your own domain name. For example, for me, my website is called brettcampbell.net and what I can do is I can create any link I want based off brettcampbell.net/ and then I get to label whatever the link I want it to be so, for example, I'm going to put an example down below in the comments and it's a really cool way for you to be able to share your social links, your affiliate links, any of that. For example, I was unlucky with the Instagram world. I couldn't get my username Brett Campbell or Brett, in this case I had to go _brett_campbell, which can be quite confusing 'cause are, "God, do I put the underscore there? Do I not?" Anyhow, what I can do now is I can do brettcampbell.net/instagram and what that will do is that redirect that link directly to my Instagram link so it's a really cool WordPress plugin. It's free. It takes about 60 seconds to upload to your website and the really cool thing is you get to now create professional links and, yes, I know what you're thinking, "Does it track how many people click on the links”? Yes, it does so that's another really cool tool so if you're putting links out on social media and you want to see if it's actually getting any interaction, you can go into the back of your WordPress plugin and you can check it out and it can tell you how many people have clicked on the link. I really hoped you enjoyed that tip and I'll see you on the next one. The post AATV Ep #4: Use This Amazing WordPress Plugin appeared first on Brett Campbell.
