Eamonn WelliverTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Eamonn Welliver. Eamonn is a third-generation painter, a second-generation actor, and a second-generation musician. In this episode, we chat about each of these artistic avenues. But before all of that, Eamonn shares some very personal stories of struggle and triumph. He was very vulnerable and open from the start. Thank you Eamonn. Being a third-generation painter, with his father's & grandfather's work hanging in some of the most prestigious museums in the world; I ask Eeamonn about the pressure to live up to the two before him. He is very candid about those pressures and expectations. Then we discuss his actual style and some of his specific pieces. They are absolutely gorgeous; you should check out his painting page on Instagram. Next, we move on to some of Eamonn's acting work. Among his roles, he played young Harry Bosch in the Amazon series "Bosch: Legacy", and we touch on that a bit. Then we discuss his audition for the lead role in the Bosch prequel 'Start of Watch', coming soon on Amazon. It was a very unique opportunity, and he even tells me about how he felt when he found out he did not get the role.... and that news came from a very interesting place. Finally, we discuss his music. Eamonn Welliver is the genius behind 'God and Her Pistol'. We talk about the new record 'Water in a Closed Fist', why there are no lyrics, and he lets me play my favorite track off of the new album. It stars Ryan Gosling, who also produced the film, as Ryland Grace, and Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, and Lionel Boyce play supporting roles. The story follows Ryland Grace, a middle school teacher who awakens aboard an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he got there. Pre-production began in 2020, before Weir's novel was published. Filming took place throughout 2024 in the United Kingdom, both on location and on sets. In a series of flashbacks, Grace recalls that scientists discovered a "Petrova line" of infrared light stretching from the Sun to Venus; an alien microbe in the line, dubbed "astrophage", was proliferating on the Sun's surface, dimming the Sun at a rate that would cause catastrophic global cooling within thirty years. The head of the Petrova Taskforce, Eva Stratt, recruited Grace to study it due to his background in speculative astrobiology. Grace experimented on a sample and discovered that astrophage was composed of unicellular organisms that absorb electromagnetic radiation from the Sun and expel it for propulsion. Grace joined Stratt's Project Hail Mary, an international "long-shot" mission to send a crewed spacecraft to Tau Ceti, the only star in Earth's solar neighborhood not occluded by astrophage. The flight to Tau Ceti would be a suicide mission, as the ship could only carry enough fuel for a one-way trip; any findings would have to return to Earth in smaller space probes. In the present, Grace encounters an alien spacecraft that docks with the Hail Mary. It is made of a solid form of xenon, which Grace dubs "xenonite". Maybe the problem isn't that you're failing at healing. Maybe your nervous system is responding to something that is still happening. In this episode, Lora Cheadle talks with Anne Blythe, M.Ed., founder of Betrayal Trauma Recovery, host of The Betrayal Trauma Recovery Podcast, and creator of the Clarity After Betrayal Workshop, about one of the most confusing parts of betrayal recovery: learning to distinguish between the trauma of what happened in the past and harm that may still be occurring in the present. Anne challenges conventional betrayal-recovery models by asking women to consider whether what they've been treating solely as a relationship problem may also involve patterns of control, coercion, exploitation, or emotional and psychological abuse. Drawing from Anne's lived experience and her extensive interviews with betrayed women, Lora and Anne explore gaslighting, intimate deception, sexual coercion, and why certain approaches to couples therapy can sometimes make an already confusing situation even harder to see clearly. We survived the subclasses. We survived the wizard subclasses. Now Arcana Unleashed Part 3 asks the truly dangerous questions: What if every wizard got a Pokémon? What if every magical faction agreed that the Ninth Quill sucks? And what if an invisible imp could carry your entire adventuring party through a wall while you relax inside a genie lamp like the world's most heavily armed first-class passengers? This week, we're digging into the rest of Arcana Unleashed, including new backgrounds, feats, spells, magical factions, evolving magic items, monsters, and a dungeon puzzle whose greatest challenge is apparently identifying which end of a snake has the head. Welcome aboard Infernal Air. Please keep your arms, legs, and extraplanar vessels inside the familiar at all times. Show Notes We've covered the Arcana Unleashed subclasses. We've given Tyler an entire episode of wizard content. Now it's time to dig through everything else Wizards of the Coast packed into the book, and there is a lot more here than we expected. We start with the new Arcana Unleashed backgrounds and origin feats, where the results range from flavorful-but-forgettable to options that could seriously change how characters are built. Familiar Friend immediately gets our attention, especially once the rest of the familiar feats enter the picture. Arcane Warrior opens wizard cantrips to characters with Fighting Styles, while the new school-specific Adept feats offer spellcasters ways to steal spells and tricks from outside their usual class options. Then things get weird. Battle Familiar might be one of the strongest new D&D 2024 spells in Arcana Unleashed. It looks suspiciously like Summon Beast, except it does not require concentration, which means there is very little reason not to have one running whenever possible. Add familiar feats, Conjurer interactions, Necromancer options, and Pact of the Chain nonsense, and suddenly your adorable magical pet is an active participant in breaking the action economy. We also discover that Otherworldly Familiar lets a familiar move through walls, which naturally leads to an invisible imp carrying a Genie Warlock's vessel, and potentially the entire party, directly through the dungeon. Congratulations. You have invented Infernal Air and apparently solved dungeon crawling. The new Arcana Unleashed spells keep the chaos going. Detonation inspires the return of bag-of-rats logic, Mordenkainen's Lucubration provides an expensive way to trade higher-level spell slots for lower-level ones, and Summon Dinosaur requires very little explanation because sometimes the spell name is already doing all the work. Beyond character options, Arcana Unleashed includes advice for building magic-heavy campaign settings, creating magical traditions, defining society's relationship with magic, and using group patrons. The magical faction system expands that idea with organizations tied to each school of magic, complete with goals, renown rewards, relationships, player options, and Bastion facilities. Some are noble. Some are creepy. The Crucible Keepers apparently treat magical disasters like sporting events. The Bringers of the Cosmic Dawn have decided transmutation needed more body horror. The Covenant of the Grave gives necromancy a surprisingly thoughtful treatment. And nearly everybody hates the Ninth Quill because, as it turns out, being an organized magical crime syndicate is not a great way to make friends. We also dig into the new D&D evolving magic item rules. There are several premade examples, a simple system for upgrading items into higher-rarity versions, and a more flexible framework for adding new powers as an item grows. The concept is useful, particularly for DMs building long-term rewards, even if we wish the book gave us a lot more material to work with. Arcana Unleashed also brings back creatures like the baelnorn, introduces archmages themed around the schools of magic, and includes the level 1 adventure Tomb of the Shadow Serpents. Venger has apparently created a multiversal dungeon-based recruitment program where surviving a few traps and assembling three pieces of a snake qualifies you for employment in an evil organization. Which explains a lot about Venger's career. By the end of our Arcana Unleashed Part 3 review, the mechanics remain the strongest part of the book. The feats offer some genuinely interesting character-building options, the familiar material could have a major impact on D&D 5e character optimization, and the spells contain several standouts. The magical factions and worldbuilding material provide useful starting points for DMs, while the evolving magic item system feels like a good idea that we wish had been given more room to grow. And Battle Familiar probably needs concentration. Seriously. Key Takeaways Arcana Unleashed adds ten backgrounds and origin feats, with Familiar Friend standing out because it dramatically improves familiar survivability and unlocks the book's additional familiar feats. Arcane Warrior gives Fighters, Paladins, Rangers, and other characters with Fighting Styles access to wizard cantrips, opening up plenty of new D&D 2024 character build options. Its lack of concentration creates extremely powerful interactions with familiars, summoners, Conjurer Wizards, Necromancer Wizards, and Pact of the Chain Warlocks. The Arcana Unleashed magical factions give DMs ready-made organizations for Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Illusion, Necromancy, and Transmutation, complete with renown rewards and faction-specific Bastion facilities. The new evolving magic item rules provide a solid framework for D&D campaigns where weapons, armor, wands, and other magical equipment grow alongside their owners, although the system could use more examples and options. Tomb of the Shadow Serpents is a simple level 1 dungeon crawl built around Venger recruiting adventurers for future schemes. The loot is surprisingly generous, the encounters are straightforward, and the snake puzzle may be the greatest threat ever posed to player overthinking. Overall, Arcana Unleashed Part 3 reinforces the book's biggest strength: mechanics. The feats, spells, familiar options, and character customization tools are much stronger than the lighter worldbuilding material, and several options look likely to become significant parts of the D&D 5e 2024 optimization landscape. Psalm 28:7 arrived as a gift during a quiet morning devotional time, hours before that exact conversation had to happen: the Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. It is one of Scripture's most direct and personal declarations: not that God might help, or that help is available under certain conditions, but that He helps. Present tense. Reliable. Already present before the hard moment begins. It is the confidence that God will be with us and will go before us in every heavy moment, every difficult conversation, and every season that looks too hard to carry. Today's Bible Verse "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me."— Psalm 28:7, NIV Ponder Today God's help is always there, even when you cannot see, sense, or fathom it. The truth of Psalm 28:7 does not depend on whether we feel it in the moment. His strength and help are present before we arrive at the hard thing, and they remain after we come through it. We cannot do the hard things without God — and we do not have to. That is not a statement of inadequacy. It is a declaration of freedom. We were never designed to carry the impossible on our own, and He never asked us to. God knows the exact words every receiving heart needs to hear. When we do not know what to say, when we feel unqualified and unprepared for a hard conversation or task, we can trust that He will speak through our weakness in ways we could not have arranged on our own. Confidence in God is built in the hours before the hard moment, not only in the moment itself. Praying through the approach, pouring over His promises, reaffirming trust in His faithfulness — these are what prepare us to walk forward when our knees are weak. God is your strength, your shield, and your help — always. Not sometimes, not conditionally, not only when the circumstances are manageable. Always. Let that word settle into whatever hard thing is on the horizon for you today. A Prayer for You Today Lord God, I need Your help. We discussed the vicious murders of Cora, Dawson, and Callan Clancy at the hands of their mother, Lindsay. January 24, 2023, at the family's home of Patrick and Lindsay Clancy on Summer Street in Duxbury, Massachusetts Lindsay Clancy brutally and savagely murdered her three children, Cora Clancy (5), Dawson Clancy (3), and Callan Clancy (8 months) by taking them into the basement and strangling them one by one with an exercise band.There's a lot of misinformation surrounding this case. It's time for conversations grounded in facts rather than feelings or bias. Helping me tackle it today is bestselling author, defense attorney, and expert on the pathology of the criminal mind, Kerrie Droban.Kerrie is an award-winning author and criminal defense attorney in Arizona. She holds a master's degree from the Johns Hopkins University Writing Seminars and a Master of Fine Arts and Juris Doctorate from the University of Arizona. Postpartum psychosis is rare, and Lindsay's diagnosis came only after the killings, from a forensic psychiatrist. ·      Flaws in the mental health system: per the prosecution, about 30 prescriptions for 13 psychiatric medications in the four months before, taken sporadically.·      Five clinicians and two hospitals saw her in that window, and none diagnosed psychosis or bipolar disorder·      The evil that is in the world today and the monsters who can't be helped.·      Prosecutors focused on the vagueness of the voice Clancy claimed to hear: she had to choose where — the basement; she had to choose how — strangulation.·      Lindsay's preparation and premeditation before she killed her children.·      Jurors who have raced to get their five minutes of fame. This quote from a juror sums it up. “He had the hardest time getting off the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children.” ·      “Team Clancy” is doing no favors for the feminist movement. This is setting a precedent. Do we have to test mothers who are coming off maternity leave with jobs that might harm others before we let them back into the workplace? Surgeons, cops, pilots, military- all jobs that were, and still are, male-dominated. Canadá se encuentra ante una situación realmente incómoda. Su mayor amenaza económica no viene de una potencia hostil como Rusia, sino del vecino con el que comparte la frontera terrestre más larga del mundo y al que vende dos de cada tres dólares que exporta. Esa dependencia, que en 2024 sostenía dos millones y medio de empleos y rondaba el 17% del PIB, dejó de ser una ventaja en cuanto Donald Trump regresó a la Casa Blanca. Lo que en campaña sonaba a fanfarronada, aquello del estado 51 y de Justin Trudeau rebajado a simple gobernador, ha acabado en la guerra comercial más dura que ha dedicado a cualquier otro aliado. Las consecuencias ya se dejan sentir. El Banco de Canadá calcula que a finales de 2026 el PIB será punto y medio inferior al que habría sido sin la ofensiva, y ha recortado el crecimiento de este año hasta un magro 0,7%. Mark Carney no ha esperado sentado. El pasado día 8 dejó entrar en vigor los aranceles de represalia tras rechazar un acuerdo que, a su juicio, movía la portería en el último minuto. Se ha propuesto también duplicar antes de 2035 las exportaciones a mercados distintos del estadounidense. Lleva, de hecho, varios meses pasando más tiempo en Europa y en Asia que en Ottawa. No sería la primera vez que Canadá lo hace. Antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial el país comerciaba más con Europa que con Estados Unidos. Formaban parte del imperio británico y eran muchos los lazos culturales y políticos que les unían con el viejo continente. La posguerra invirtió la balanza. En 1950 ya iba hacia el sur el 65% de las exportaciones, los hijos de quienes estudiaron en Oxford empezaron a hacerlo en Harvard. Pierre Trudeau intentó el desenganche en los años 70 tras un recrudecimiento arancelario del Gobierno Nixon, pero una década después alcanzaron un acuerdo de libre comercio auspiciado por Ronald Reagan que luego se extendería a México. Carney es hijo de esa misma historia. Pasó por Harvard y Oxford, presidió primero el Banco de Canadá y luego el de Inglaterra durante siete años. De aquella experiencia sacó la convicción de que las potencias medianas necesitan alternativas al dólar. Llegó al poder gracias al propio Trump, cuyas amenazas evitaron una derrota segura del partido Liberal en las elecciones del año pasado. Su primer viaje como primer ministro no fue a Washington, sino a Londres y París. El plan tomó forma la semana pasada en dos escenarios distintos. En Toronto ofreció a los grandes inversores rebajas fiscales, permisos más ágiles y algunas privatizaciones. En Estrasburgo recogió la oferta de Ursula von der Leyen para convertir a Canadá en el primer miembro asociado de la Unión Europea. Los escollos son serios. Canadá apenas supone el 1,3% de las importaciones comunitarias, diez Estados no han ratificado aún el tratado de libre comercio de 2017 y su normativa está diseñada para atender al mercado estadounidense. Tampoco entusiasma atarse a una economía que crece tan poco como la europea. Aun así, ocho de cada diez canadienses apoyan la maniobra y Carney supera el 65% de aprobación.
