Nick Loper is a legend in the side hustle and internet marketing space. He is the host of the Side Hustle Show podcast and runs the Side Hustle Nation website. I get excited when talking about internet marketing, start-ups, passive income, and entrepreneurship. And I hope many of you do, too, as I would like to explore this topic in more earnest in the future. Being a city or county manager is very risky. Governing bodies are churning and burning through public sector executives who are increasingly seen as disposable and interchangeable commodities. In the past, I have talked about minimizing downside risk exposure during contract negotiations and explored the idea of side hustles and alternative income streams to augment incomes during transitions so that you are not pressured into taking an unattractive opportunity just for the sake of putting food on the table. Please let me know if you enjoy or do not enjoy this podcast so that I can modify future programming. A service business is one of the fastest side hustles to get off the ground, and you can scale it by hiring other people to deliver the work. But is there an advantage to staying a solo operator? In this Side Hustle Showdown, we're looking at freelancing vs. building an agency. For this debate, I invited a couple members of The Side Hustle Nation community who both run cleaning companies: Chris Schwab from ThinkMaids.com represented the agency side. We last heard from Chris in episode 294, where he talked about how he'd built his cleaning business to $60k a month in revenue, and scaled back his own involvement to just 10 minutes a day. Ken Carfango from SmartCleaningSchool.com represented the solo freelance side. Before we begin, I should note that the single BEST way to make your side hustle feel official is to get paid. As soon as you've got your side hustle idea, go sell something. Seriously. That first income — no matter how small — is an empowering moment. In fact, I did a whole episode describing how I got my first sale in 6 different businesses, and later another 25 members of Side Hustle Nation shared their story in this fun round-up episode. But I also understand that many people — myself include — often want some level of “establishment” before they feel comfortable saying they're open for business. I opened my first LLC while I was still in college and really had no idea what I needed it for. But it felt good, and if I'm being honest, made me feel smart and important too. And later I got plenty of use out of it. And that's what this post is about. Even though in the early days of your side hustle, you're better off focusing on getting customers, sometimes you need a little foundation before you're mentally ready to focus on getting customers. My only caution is not to use this list as fodder for procrastination, but to use it as a checklist to build positive momentum and keep going. Again, before you pull my hustle card, know that you don't need any of these to get started. But you will need to do most of these eventually, and if you're the person who likes to get everything in order first, let's get that excuse out of the way. Ready? Let's do it. According to Side Hustle Nation, 39% of employed Americans have a side hustle? And that 30% of those people hope to turn their side hustle into a full-time gig? If you're building a business along side a more traditional jobby-job, you're in good company. It's how lots of small business owners (including yours truly) got their start. That doesn't mean juggling a business and a job is easy though. There are some pitfalls to watch out for, and many people will stumble along the way. Recently a listener wrote in and asked my advice on how to manage a growing business while still working a day job, so let's tackle that question together on this episode of the Tiny Course Empire podcast. Prefer a transcript? Here you go! What you'll learn in this episode: The one thing you must do to build a business on the side Where to find the time when you think you don't have a minute to spare My top tip for avoiding overwork and burnout (especially if you're a freelancer) What to focus on first when your time is limited Two things we did to make the transition from employee to entrepreneur less stressful Resources mentioned: Six-Figure Systems is my monthly online business coaching program. Carl Pullein is one of my favorite podcasters, and his productivity advice is useful for anyone trying to build a business while still holding a full-time job.

With the emerging usage of AI for content generation, how will it affect the online businesses? Is AI a threat for content websites? How can online business owners integrate AI into their strategies to enhance their content instead of making it obsolete and lacking human connection? These are important questions that Doug Cunnington answered in this special episode. Doug is a gun in the SEO industry. His work has been featured all over the internet including Ahrefs, Empire Flippers, Niche Pursuits, Side Hustle Nation and much more. Doug is also a Project Management Professional, and the creator of the KeyWord Golden Ratio, and is a master at Internet Marketing and Course Creating. During our conversation, we talked about the various ways in which AI can be used and debunked common misconceptions surrounding this fascinating technology. Why is AI only going to make online businesses better? How destructive constantly learning about new AI is for you as an entrepreneur? We also discussed Doug's process on creating content at scale with AI. How to add value to content while using AI without fretting about SEO? How can we improve our sites with AI? Are you interested in improving your site's performance and staying up-to-date on the latest trends in SEO and content marketing? Then, this episode is perfect for you! Go ahead and click the ‘Play button'! Episode Highlights 03:40 Doug's thoughts on AI and the future of it 12:34 Process of creating content using AI tools 24:45 Creating tailored content with AI 36:52 Evolution of content sites 39:12 How to connect with AI for a better business 40:42 Fear of AI taking over and how to handle that 44:12 Staying up-to-date with AI Key Takeaways ➥ Doug believes that using AI tools can greatly benefit a business by improving its processes and workflow. He thinks that AI will not be the end for content sites but rather make things more efficient. ➥ Doug suggests that Chat GPT can be a useful tool for content creation because it can help identify areas for improvement in an article. This includes identifying gaps in the article, addressing potential objections that readers may have, and identifying frequently asked questions that could be included to make the article more comprehensive. ➥ Doug thinks that while AI-generated content may be useful in some areas of content creation, such as generating written content or providing data-driven insights, it may not be as effective in creating audio or video content. This is because people are still drawn to human connection and the personal touch that humans can bring to content creation. For example, many people prefer to listen to podcasts or watch videos where they can connect with the host or presenter on a personal level. In this episode: house hacking, benefits and compensation packages, earning extra income and side hustles, and not setting perfection as your goal. We know achieving FI doesn't happen overnight, and rarely does it happen perfectly according to plan. Life happens, changes happen, and uncertainty usually finds a way to throw you off your planned path. This shouldn't be something to fear! Today in the Households of FI series we are joined again by Zach to fill us in on how his FI journey has progressed over the last couple years, as well as to discuss the importance of re-adjustment! While failure is never an easy thing to accept, the fear of failing may deprive you of some excellent learning opportunities. By remaining intentional with your FI plan rather than striving for perfection, you will allow yourself to overcome uncomfortable lulls and expand your journey to places you might not have thought were possible!
