The Podcast Superfriends get together to review their favourite AI-powered tools. We reviewed the following. David showed us a jingle/song tool called Suno. Cost: nil. Matt Reviewed Vocal Remover which is free and separates the music from the vocal leaving you with two files to play with. (Thanks to James Cridland who shared this idea at Radiodays North America last week) Catherine shared one of her favorite tools from CoSchedule - which is their Headline writing feature. There is a cost to it but it takes out all the mystery out of SEO. Johnny gave us a tour of Adobe's Enhanced audio tool which turns your crappy echoey mess of a podcast and makes it sound like it was recorded in a studio. It is free but will only do 30 minutes at a time at the free level. A paid version of Adobe willl give you full access. Finally, Jag in Detroit, Jon Gay gave us some serious updates on Descript's Underlord, Riverside's forthcoming updates, and a non-AI hack to get rid of echo using RX-11 from Izotope. Here's the secret: I'm not a one-man band. Yes, I lied all that time. Did you really believe I could push a podcast interview out every week for 163 weeks in a row, all by myself? Of course not. The Don't Waste Water Corporation is a hefty team of 22. But here's the catch: I'm the only human. Let me introduce you to my crew. First, there's my editing manager, a robot called Descript. In his AI team, we've got the Scribe, which turns all my recordings into text. Pretty standard so far, but it becomes swiftly cooler with the Grammar Maniac. If I record this: "So, what's the uh, name of your book?" The Maniac identifies the filler words and gets them out of the way.  In that same team, the Chopper chops out every word, and so if I were to say something as stupid as: Colmar is not the nicest place on earth, I just have to select the wrong word as you'd do in your text editor, and delete it. Job done! The work is then handed over to the Audio Engineer. Because sometimes a guest or me, may record on a poor microphone or noisy environment. And you certainly don't want to hear what a poor microphone or noisy environment sounds like. In more difficult cases I escalate it to Adobe Enhance Beta. And in last resort to iZotope's Neutron or Ozone Smart Assistants.  Back to Descript: the Audio Engineer has a quite dangerous colleague I very seldom use, but if needs be, I can emulate any voices and have them say whatever I want. For instance, here are two sentences from Alice. Can you find out which one really belongs to today's interview?  Now, this is for sure an audio podcast, but also a YouTube video. And would you like to watch me speaking if I avoided any eye contact with you? Well, if that was ever to happen, I'd be just one click away from having the rectifier bring back my eyes where they should be. Yes, that one is a bit scary.  What if I lean back a bit too much in my chair and go out of focus? Topaz AI brings me back to sharpness.  And what if I stumble? No wait. And what if I stumble? Not the right dynamic. And what if I stumble? Gling automatically picks my best take! Then, if I want to lure you into listening to a great interview, I can say it. But if I say it with subtitles, statistics say you're more likely to follow my advice. That's Captionator's job.  And while I record horizontally, getting the word out is more efficient in Vertical mode - but nothing to worry Final Cut's AI always prompts my best profile. And if I don't have time to edit the best quotes myself, OpusClip does it for me! A cool episode needs a cool title: My ideas are not always top-notch thankfully, Coschedule loves to rate them and propose improvements. While YouTube requires me to provide at least a decent thumbnail to distribute my content, I often have a hard time finding a relevant picture or illustration to promote a water or lithium topic. In these cases, I ask MidJourney for a solid basis and Photoshop Beta for added context.  Finally, while TrueSync, ColorLab AI, Insta 360 Studio, Leia Pix AI, and many I'm probably forgetting here have been sporadic members of the team but didn't stick in the long run, I've recently hired ChatGPT to compile the key episode highlights you'll find in the show notes and on the Don't Waste Water website.  Last but not least, all my English copy is written in Grammarly, which detects that "English" should take a capital letter. Yes, I know, you don't hear my grammar mistakes, so why bother? Well, my prospective guests have to read my emails first, and you only have one chance to make a good first impression. Why do I tell you all of that? First don't worry, if you were to use any of these tools, I wouldn't get a cent. This wasn't an ad with extra steps. No, I'm telling you that to highlight one of the ideas Claudia and Alice develop in their new book: AI may be neither a threat nor a waste, but used right, a way to enhance humans.

Anyword is another copywriting tool for $30/month. Descript with transcribe and make it easy to edit your show (and they have that amazing studio sound tool). Headliner Studio from CoSchedule is $9/month. With Capsho plans starting at $29/month, I believe it delivers enough value (but that depends on your budget). In my world, I've decided to keep using it and see how it performs.  AI Will NEVER Release a Human I will get into this later, but while a computer can imitate a human, I feel it can't replace. We are all different with these things called opinions and personalities, and even though I can specify a tone in some AI products like Word Hero it almost always needs a tweak to match your personality.  So Who Is Capsho Good For? If you're not writing anything or struggling, this does a lot of the heavy lifting. If would love to have someone help you with your description, titles, etc but can't afford a virtual assistant, but can find $29-$90 in the monthly budget, then this might be a good fit. As always, you pay in one of two currencies, time or money. Every single day, nearly 60 million blog posts are published and five billion YouTube videos are watched. Are you always trying to edge out search results to be on top? Discover how to reframe your mindset when it comes to content marketing. Today, we're talking to Garrett Moon, CoSchedule CEO, about how to handle such competition when it comes to content marketing and his new book, 10X Marketing Formula: Your Blueprint for Creating Competition-Free Content That Stands Out and Gets Results.   Some of the highlights of the show include: Marketers are responsible for bringing in leads, sales, people - big tasks - to support core business metrics. Garrett's book describes taking the formula, process, tips and tricks, and things that work and don't for CoSchedule and making them available to anybody to use and implement in their business and marketing process. Gartner's Hype Cycle: How new technology is adopted. When content marketing took shape a few years back, all of a sudden, everyone was adopting it and reworking their marketing teams, creating content, doing blogging, building email lists, and other tasks. Content marketing made a lot of promises to us. Now, Garrett believes we are entering the trough of disillusionment. We adopted content marketing, but what about those big promises that were made? What about the results? Why are you not getting the results you were promised? How do marketing teams provide business value? Content marketing needs to be reinvented. Garrett describes the "copy cat" epidemic in marketing. There is so much free content online where pieces of strategies, tactics, and other items are copied and pasted. However, it does not create an entire picture or blueprint. The goal is to create a framework from start to finish to find something unique to your business that only you can do and be successful with. Something that stands out and gets results. Creating Competition-Free Content: Not only is your business and products in competition, but your marketing is in competition with other marketing. Find a way to break past that barrier created by competitors. The book, Blue Ocean Strategy, refers to the Bloody Red Ocean, which is full of competition and where businesses are fighting each other to stand out - they're at war with each other. However, the Blue Ocean is wide-open and uncontested. You're free to swim around and move about because you have successfully been able to differentiate yourself from the competition. To differentiate your content marketing, focus on your topics, how you create content, and how to connect that content and share it with your customers. 10X reference: look at what you are doing and ask if what you are doing will help your team multiply results, including increasing sales leads and the number of visitors to your Website. Marketing teams need to focus on 10x growth rather than increments of 10 percent improvements. Marketing teams are designed to produce results, not worry about risks. Agile Manifesto: focuses on how software development could be better. A powerful way to cause engineers to rethink and reframe what they're doing. 10X Manifesto: focuses on how so much of marketing is about mindset when it comes to how we do and approach things. Results or Die: 10X marketers work in a results or die oriented business, not 10 percenters allowed. Many think of marketing as a process for things they do - marketing is the blog, social media channels, conference booth, etc. There's all these deliverables that a marketing team creates and hands off to others, such as the sales and support teams. Marketers are not here to produce Web ads or build a Website. They're here to help produce business results and help grow companies. 10X marketers understand that growth requires failure, strength is in progress, not perfection. Teams that embrace failure (fail fast) understand that it is not about failure but acknowledging imperfection. Marketing comes with assumptions: assume methods used to get the message out will work; assume there's the right mix of email ads; assume messages are right; assume the timeline is correct. Ever realize how much you are guessing? The problem is in the marketing plan. It becomes a risk-removal tool that leads to pointing fingers and placing blame on others. Instead of a plan, start with a goal. To start down the 10X marketing path, list what work you did this week. Are these 10X or 10 percent activities? Email Subject Line Analyzer.Grammarly is a browser extension you can download on Google Chrome that will automatically check all of your online writing for basic spelling and grammar mistakes.When the program finds errors, it will underline them in red and provide a suggested replacement.If you want to invest a little more in your writing, there is a paid version with even more features that professional writers love.Ernest Hemmingway, the author that the app is named after, is known for writing with short, direct sentences that are very easy to read.Thus, the program will score the readability of your writing based on a number of factors, including how complicated your sentences are.Three helpful features are its “hard to read,” “simpler word,” and “passive voice” features.Hard to read looks at how long and winding your sentences are.Simpler word finds places where you are using a word or phrase that can be replaced with something more concise.The passive voice feature identifies the use of passive voice. Passive voice means that your sentence subject is a recipient of a verb's action. When writing copy, you almost always want to use active voice, where your subject acts on its verb. Active voice almost always packs a way bigger punch. You can learn a little more about passive and active voice here.Like Grammarly, Hemmingway has a paid version– their desktop app costs $20. However, the online version is free and works perfectly well.Cliche Finder does exactly what it sounds like— it finds cliches in your writing.Cliches are phrases whose meanings aren't literal. Some examples include “I lost track of time,” “don't put all of your eggs in one basket,” “time heals all wounds,” “gut-wrenching pain,” and “scared to death.”In the writing world, they are usually considered to be a huge no-no.While there is some room for cliches in casual copywriting, it is usually best to avoid using them excessively because they can make your writing more difficult to read.Headliner Analyzer works like this:You feed the program your headline. Then, they rank it out of 100. Their algorithm looks at the following (plus more):Words that make people more likely to interact with your headline.Words that make people less likely to interact with your headline.Number of words in your headline.Number of characters in your headline.The style of your headline.Reading grade level.They will also give you suggestions for improving your headline.Headline Analyzer and the next tool, Email Subject Line Analyzer, make it quite difficult to get a perfect score. I wrote a novel and the Analyzer and the SEO score was 79 so I went with it. Personally, try to aim for a score in the 60-80 range.I find that the tool is best used if you are stuck between a few different ideas and want to know which is best. My guest this week is Tammilee Tillison, a travel and lifestyle blogger. I think you will find it interesting to hear what she has to say about blogging in these niches. Tammilee and her husband have been blogging for over ten years on their blogs, tammileetips.com and parkrangerjohn.com. Monetizing a Travel Blog Tammilee and her husband John live in Washington state but they travel on average 160+ days a year. They have several revenue streams. They have ad revenue, sponsored posts, sponsorships on social media, and affiliates. Tammilee is currently figuring out SEO since it was not even relevant when she began blogging. Work-Life Balance as a Blogger Tammilee doesn't have much downtime. She works even when she is on vacation, knowing that every experience is going to be put into her content. But burnout happens to everyone. Tammilee tries to avoid burnout by spending time doing something she enjoys, like reading, and pushing away the hurried thoughts about everything she could be doing. The Instagram and blog posts make it seem like travel bloggers live carefree, happy, unburdened lives. But behind that, they are constantly thinking about how they're going to use their experiences, and so they aren't always just enjoying the moment. Creating Curated Content Tammilee is monetizing off of her blog. She wants to have content and pictures that make people want to go to the places she's been. To do that, she sometimes has to create a story using only one picture. Spending a lot of time making an image perfect is how Tammilee can show the quality of the entire trip or vacation. Outside of the lovely images, we are running businesses. We are trying to make money and support ourselves. Tammilee tries to show every side of the destination so that her audience is not misled by thinking that every area is as beautiful as one photo. Traveling For Free as a Food Blogger People who go into travel blogging so that they can travel for free not only give the business itself a bad rep but are misleading. No one is going to travel completely free. There will be expenses, even if you're getting hotels free, tickets free, etc. Tammilee's business expenses are invested in camera equipment, travel expenses, and the time itself that this job takes. Traveling for free is possible, but there are pros and cons to every situation. Make sure to ask someone who has been in the business longer than a year, so you can understand both sides of the story. The Logistics of Being a Travel Blogger Although it depends on the level that you're at as a travel writer, Tammilee can reach out to a hotel and say that she would like to come and write about the hotel. They do get many offers but whether they accept it depends on whether it looks good, whether it fits into their calendar, etc. You may get a $150 hotel night offer, and then there are many asks in return for that. They want your photos, tours of the best rooms, etc. It's not just about what you're getting. It's also what you're bringing to the brand. Social Media Platforms Instagram is the big player right now. It's likely that at some point, the bubble is going to burst and something else will take its place. Someone who is on multiple social media platforms will be able to reach a different type of audience on each one and be able to monetize on more readers. Tammilee does have a Youtube channel, but she doesn't use it very often because she doesn't enjoy making videos as much as she does taking pictures. Tammilee does a lot of Instagram stories and Facebook live videos. With Facebook live, she can pop in and then just show everyone around her environment, in a true, non-curated way. Some brands do want blog posts and some don't care anymore. Brands that have been in the business longer know that the social platforms are constantly evolving, so it's a good idea to have a finger in every pie. Niching Down as a Blogger Tammilee has a built-in audience that has been with her on a journey over ten years, and so she can expand from traveling blogging to lifestyle blogging. She can write about travel, food, and lifestyle depending on the audience she wants to reach and her mood. Tammilee's audience is one big group of people and contained in one email list. She sends everything to everyone and lets them decide which links they want to click through on. Tammilee's Most Used Tool Tammilee loves Tailwind, because even when she's tired or too busy there is something steady going out to her audience. Tammilee also loves Coschedule and has it set up for a year in advance. Travel Tools Tammilee says to invest in a really good phone with a killer camera. She has a Samsung Galaxy 10. Even though they have expensive cameras, sometimes there is a need to take pictures quicker, and having a phone to snap a picture makes all the difference. I just did my last sponsored post with my phone alone. The camera quality is so high, the photos look better than ones taken on my camera when I first started out. Top Three Travel Destinations Tammilee encourages people to travel somewhere that would make them slightly nervous, and see how different it is from their preconceived notions. If you have a place that you've always wanted to go to, every time you see it you wish you were there, you need to visit that place. Visit a place where you have memories. A place you went as a kid, or a place that your family talks about, so you will have those memories again. Travel Blogging Advice Tammilee would say that finding your tribe of people who will help you push through the hard days is the most important thing. Her tribe consists of her husband and women who are doing similar things as Tammilee. In this industry, there is a lot of competition and distrust, but if we come together, work together, and build each other up, we can all benefit.
