How the National Hurricane Center Forecasts Hurricanes — Jamie RhomeWhen a hurricane threatens, people want answers: Where will it go? How strong will it become? How much time is left to prepare? Behind every official forecast is a complex process involving satellite observations, aircraft data, computer guidance, emerging artificial intelligence tools and expert analysis. In this episode of HURRICANE CENTER, the hosts speak with Jamie Rhome, Deputy Director of NOAA's National Hurricane Center, about how hurricane forecasting and risk communication continue to evolve. The discussion explores improved observations and modeling, artificial intelligence guidance, rapid intensification, storm-surge forecasting and the importance of helping people understand the full range of hazards before a storm arrives.Rhome also addresses one of the biggest communication challenges in hurricane preparedness: the public often focuses on a single category number or the center line of the forecast cone, while the greatest local risk may come from storm surge, flooding, destructive winds, extended power loss or waiting too long to act.In This Episode, You Will Learn How the National Hurricane Center evaluates new forecasting tools and artificial intelligence guidance. Why better observations and modeling are important for forecasting hurricane structure and rapid intensification. How storm-surge forecasting is improving for coastal communities. What the forecast cone communicates — and what it does not. Why a storm category alone does not define local danger. How waiting for a more favorable forecast can reduce the time available to prepare. Why official, trusted information matters when a tropical threat develops. About the GuestJamie Rhome is Deputy Director of NOAA's National Hurricane Center in Miami. He helps guide the center's long-term strategy, annual planning and operational execution. His NHC career has included work as a surface analyst, marine forecaster, hurricane specialist and storm-surge specialist. Key Listener TakeawayA hurricane forecast is not just about the projected path of the storm's center. It is about understanding the hazards that may affect your location — including storm surge, flooding, wind, power outages and the shrinking window to make safe decisions. When a storm threatens, focus on official forecasts and local impacts rather than waiting for a forecast that feels less threatening.About HURRICANE CENTERHURRICANE CENTER takes listeners inside the science, decisions and real-world impacts of tropical storms and hurricanes. In this episode of Inside The Wolf's Den, Shawn and Joni Wolfswinkel sit down with Marc Cunningham, a second generation entrepreneur, industry leader, and CEO of Grace Property Management and Real Estate. From his early days in a family run business to leading one of Colorado's most respected property management firms, Marc shares how he built a company grounded in strong systems, clear processes, and intentional culture. Marc walks through the evolution of Grace, offering a practical look at what it really takes to scale in a demanding industry. He speaks candidly about working with family, from setting boundaries between home and the office to navigating difficult conversations that test both relationships and leadership. The episode also covers the launch of his education platform, PM Build, created to help property management entrepreneurs build stronger businesses. Marc explains the moment he recognized a gap in the industry and how teaching others sharpened his own thinking as an operator. A standout part of the conversation is Marc's breakdown of the sale of Grace to Rhome. He shares how the opportunity came together, what the due diligence process looked like, and the reality of continuing to lead the company through a major transition after the sale. He also offers clear advice for owners preparing for an eventual exit of their business. To close, Marc reflects on leadership, time management, and the mindset shifts required to move from employee, to operator, to CEO. It's easy to become preoccupied with temporal needs, stressors, and desires and end up giving God the leftovers of our time, energy, and resources. This is an obvious temptation for God's people today and, apparently, it was when Jesus walked the earth in the first century as he tried teaching his followers to "seek first [God's] kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matt 6:33). Says one author: "It seems that every generation of believers, from ancient times to modern, must learn this lesson anew. It is a truth that was ignored, if in fact it was grasped at all, by the people of God to whom the prophet Haggai ministered in the sixth century B.C. Although they verbally might have articulated a belief to the contrary, their actions clearly disclosed their inverted priorities. In reality they sought first the kingdom of self and its comforts; they would get around to the work of God after those priorities had first been settled" (Taylor and Clendenen, Haggai, Malachi, The New American Commentary, 24). Perhaps we can all learn from their mistakes.
