Hello BackStory fans! In this episode, after we talk a bit about crime dramas, famous Canadians, and Columbo, we sit down with the amazing actress Anna Tierney. She is an interesting person with an equally interesting backstory, who we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with. A few eclectic topics discussed: renovating houseboats, roller derby, accents, and much more. From Anna's bio: Anna Tierney is an English actress, born in Manchester and raised in Northolt, West London. She is the daughter of renowned actor Malcolm Tierney (Braveheart, Lovejoy, Star Wars, Poldark and the original House Of Cards) and visual artist, Andrea Tierney. In August 2021 Anna began filming as a series regular opposite Alfred Molina in the hotly anticipated 'Three Pines' Inspector Gamache series. The stories, based on the best-selling crime novels written by Louise Penny, have been adapted for screen by Emilia Di Girolamo and can be seen on Amazon Prime. Anna trained at the Drama Centre London and was supported through drama school through various awards and the support of actors Jeremy Irons, Ian McKellen, Kitty Aldridge, Timothy West, Ian McShane and Roger Lloyd Pack. After graduating she landed a role In the BBC's long running series 'Doctors', where she played Marianne Hartwell. She created the show 'Skate Hard, Turn Left' ; a devised, highly physical theatre show performed entirely on roller skates. Over intensive rehearsal periods, she trained the troupe of actors to roller skate, inspired by the sport of roller derby. Anna is a highly skilled skater in real life and played roller derby semi-professionally for 8 years with London Roller Derby. While performing in the hit international tour of the play, ‘Our Country's Good', she performed at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and then for the 25 Year anniversary at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theater. It was here she met her partner, acclaimed musician and singer Gabriel DeSantis.
Thank you for listening to Write On! Audio, the podcast for writers everywhere brought to you by Pen To Print Our October Listener contribution comes from Allan Lochhead, an engineer and actor from south London. Originally training as an engineer, the door opened to the world of poetry and drama when he attended a public speaking evening class run by the actor George Pensotti, at the Mary Ward Centre in London. A long-standing member of Equity, Allan has sung in the choir and performed his own monologue, directed by the late Roger Lloyd Pack. He has also written a comedy, which was performed at the Actor's Centre in London. He travelled around the country with Theatre In Education tours, was part of a successful Street Theatre company which toured the UK and abroad, and worked at the Millenium Dome for a year, with the Natural Theatre Company. The Trotters are off to France to pay homage to Albert and Del decides to turn it into an earner by roping Denzil into a booze cruise. All goes pare shaped however when it turns out they have a stowaway on board. This week we talk for a surprisingly long time about another divisive episode and how Roger Lloyd Pack as Trigger steals the show.
Roger Lloyd Pack reads a darkly moving and eerie tale of a love that transcends earthly bounds.
Roger Lloyd Pack reads this funny folk tale following a fool's quest for a pottle of brains.
This week we review - One Fools & Horses (Series 3 Episode 3)Created and written by John Sullivan, seven series were originally broadcast on BBC One in the United Kingdom from 1981 to 1991, with sixteen sporadic Christmas specials aired until the end of the show in 2003.Set in Peckham in south-east London, it stars David Jason as ambitious market trader Derek "Del Boy" Trotter, Nicholas Lyndhurst as his younger brother Rodney Trotter, and Lennard Pearce as their elderly Grandad as their sidekick. Backed by a strong supporting cast, the series follows the Trotters' highs and lows in life, in particular their attempts to get rich. After Lennard Pearce's death in 1984, the show introduced a new sidekick Uncle Albert, the boys' great uncle played by Buster Merryfield. From 1988 onwards, the show features regular characters in Del Boy and Rodney's love interests, Raquel (Tessa Peake-Jones) and Cassandra (Gwyneth Strong) respectively. Other recurring characters include haughty car dealer Boycie (John Challis), dim-witted road sweeper Trigger (Roger Lloyd-Pack), lorry driver Denzil (Paul Barber), obnoxious spiv Mickey Pearce (Patrick Murray) and bartender Mike (Kenneth MacDonald). The show achieved consistently high ratings, and the 1996 episode "Time on Our Hands" (originally billed as the last ever episode) holds the record for the highest UK audience for a sitcom episode, attracting over 24.3 million viewers.Written by John SullivanProduced by Ray Butt and Gareth GwenlanDirected by Martin Shardlow, Ray Butt, Susan Belbin, Mandie Fletcher and Tony DowA BBC Production.Only Fools & Horses is available to buy here: https://bit.ly/2T0mhQtThe Comedy Slab Podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spreaker, Stitcher, iHeart Radio, Spotify and Youtube.Subscribe for a new episode each Monday.Get in touch - we're @ComedySlab on Twitter and ComedySlab on Facebook.
Dr. Snuggles and friends return for episode 78 of your guide to the truly astonishing world of softcore films, and the world’s number one podcast on that subject! It’s been a while since we’ve done a British film, and even longer since we’ve done a good old raunchy British sex comedy. So, this episode, the core trio check out 1974’s Confessions of a Sex Maniac, aka The Man Who Couldn’t Get Enough! An unusually unprofessional, sex obsessed young architect decides to design a building based on the perfect breast, but of course he needs to find the perfect breast first. Those Brits, right? What a bunch. Turns out the movie is sort of like a sex comedy, but without actual jokes. So that’s odd. For some reason, it stars Roger Lloyd Pack, who’s probably best known from either one of the Harry Potter movies, The Vicar of Dibley, or Only Fools and Horses, depending on how old you are and if you’re from either the UK or a British colony. But he was also a Shakespearean actor, and fiercely left wing, pro-union, and pro-public education, public broadcasting, public health, and public transport. Please support our Patreon, if you can! Adrian Mitchell's parody of William Shakespeare, trying to help us find a way of remembering all his plays. Brilliantly performed by Roger Lloyd Pack, with music by Sylvia Hallett & Miguel Tantos.
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to. This time Tim's the guest, talking to Garreth F. Hirons about Children's BBC show Stop-Go!, It's A Shame by Kris Kross, the animated series of Spider-Woman, I Wanted To See You To See If I Wanted You by Moose, The ITV Encyclopedia Of Adventure, the original version of Right Here by SWV, The Young Poisoner's Handbook and Radio Tip Top. Along the way we'll be finding out how the cast of The Sullivans got caught up in a South-East turf war, attempting to define the Drop The Dead Donkey Font, puzzling over how Dracula can logistically get 'revenge', and querying how far Roger Lloyd Pack was from any falling-through-bar incident at any given point in time. Food has been larking about in comedy since Charlie Chaplin first slipped on a banana skin and made bread rolls dance: but somewhere along the way, it's evolved from the slapstick sidekick to a much more significant comic entertainer... From the disastrous duck at Fawlty Towers, to Fleabag’s calamitous catering efforts – via wry dinner ladies, caravan fry-ups, comedic fried chicken shops and dark food-blogger satire – food has come a long way, baby. It’s no longer a simple prop, but a much-loved theme at the very heart of modern entertainment. In between performances at the renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe, comedian and creative cook George Egg takes us on a journey down the Royal Mile and through the history of culinary comedy; discovering that, as with so much humour, the power of food lies in its normality. And that it’s this everyday appeal that allows food, and comedy, to conjure up safe settings in which to address much bigger issues. Presented by George Egg, produced by Lucy Taylor. Featuring clips from: I'm Alan Partridge: 'A Room with an Alan' Created and written by Peter Baynham, Steve Coogan and Armando Iannucci; performed by Steve Coogan. Victoria Wood as Seen on TV: ‘Waitress’ Written by Victoria Wood; performed by Julie Walters. The Return of Mr Bean: ‘Steak Tartare’ Created and written by Rowan Atkinson, Richard Curtis and Robin Driscoll; performed by Rowan Atkinson and Roger Lloyd-Pack.
Olivier Award-winning actor Kenneth Cranham wraps his RADA-trained vocal cords around Visions of Johanna and never stops. "You’ve got to go and see this guy Bob Dylan at the Royal Festival Hall,” he remembers being told in 1964. “He smokes joints all the time." So he bought four tickets - for a pound. Get ready for countless stories including Sam Shepard’s unique directing technique, a fond remembrance of Roger Lloyd Pack and blowing the minds of the Salvation Army with Dylan on his side. West End and Broadway veteran Kenneth Cranham was in Joe Orton’s Loot and Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party. He played the title role in ITV’s Shine On, Harvey Moon and has appeared in countless films, stretching from Oliver! through Hellbound: Hellraiser II to Layer Cake, Valkyrie and Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool. We're back from a brief hiatus with - unbelievably - a film which actually deeply relates to testing! We're joined by Mark Tomlinson, who brings his own experiences of dealing with the National Transportation Safety Board, to discuss a film about a remarkable moment of true-life heroism, and the decisions that we make in the heat of the moment. The events of the movie give us a chance to get into in-depth discussions about the challenges of testing within regulated industries, developing risk mitigation strategies in life-critical environments, debugging/monitoring, and whether quality is a team effort. There are remarkably few distractions, although we get into some meta-discussion about whether it was correct to portray the NTSB as pantomime villains, a general critique of Clint Eastwood's agenda, a surprising number of references to metallurgy, and we give Mark an introduction to 1980s UK gameshows. This Mixtape Assembly is curated by Kenneth Cranham, one of England's most respected actors, who found fame playing the title role in Shine on Harvey Moon, before going on to appear in a number of films including Hellraiser, Layer Cake and Valkyrie. He is perhaps even more renowned for this work in the theatre, and in 2016 Ken won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Play for his role as Andre in Florian Zeller's The Father. However,as a child growing up I only knew Ken as a music man, and my understanding was that he had a full time job recording cassette tapes for friends and family, with eager recipients including Crispian Mills (Kula Shaker) and Pete Postlewaite (RIP). Ken must've made hundreds of tapes for his old acting buddy, and my late father, Roger Lloyd Pack. In his Mixtape Assembly, Ken reflects on the way that music permeated his friendship with Roger, and creates another cracking collection of tracks in memory of my dear old dad. Cheers Kenny boy!
