Our exit today has us being recognized for that one hit wonder we wrote in the 80s. This week, we are talking about Bridget Jones's Diary, written by Helen Fielding, Andrew Davies, and Richard Curtis, and directed by Sharon Maguire. Along with debating the dreamiest Mr. Darcy, we talk casting rumors, belated sequels, soundtracks, the year of Jim Broadbent, Austen adaptations, the allure of Hugh Grant, accents, Salman Rushdie, uncomfortable humor, and Mission Impossible.Theme music by Jonworthymusic.Powered by RiversideFM.CFF Films with Ross and friends.Movies We've Covered on the Show on Letterboxd.Movies Recommended on the Show on Letterboxd.

Den stærke og aktuelle rolleliste tæller D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs), Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun), Will Poulter (The Maze Runner), Kit Connor (Heartstopper), Joseph Quinn (Gladiator 2), Charles Melton (Riverdale) og Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I've Loved Before).
In these extra-long special Easter holiday edition clips from three years ago, I had mixed up Adam and Richard Curtis, Storm Eunice was causing havoc and a strange man was seeking efficiencies.
Send us a textKatie and Bridget trauma dump for some brownies as they re-watch the very British movie: Notting Hill! It's a movie all about how Julia Roberts is so great and wonderful and should definitely go date the writer of the movie Richard Curtis - erm, we mean, Hugh Grant! We swear this is not a fan fiction! Come along as we meet William Thacker, a mumbly bookstore owner who falls for Anna Scott, a famous actress who enjoys walking around town without any security. When the two end up dating each other via orange juice spills and Horse and Hounds magazines, they find that it's not so easy when he's just a boring dude and she's famous! The problem might also be that Anna Scott is the worst character ever but ya know... It's the paparazzi's fault!! Through British jokes, quirky friends, and some Britney Spears Crossroad's slumber party trauma dumping, the two discover that they want to be together even though Anna Scott still sucks... Listen, the writer also wrote Love Actually - OKAY!? Released in 1999, it stars Hugh Grant, Julia Roberts, Richard McCabe, Gina McKee, Tim McInnerny, Emma Chambers, and Rhys Ifans.

What if the world forgot The Beatles… and only you remembered? On this episode of The Clean Slate Podcast, we're diving into Yesterday (2019), the feel-good musical fantasy directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis. We break down the film's high-concept premise, its charming (and questionable) take on fame, and how the music of The Beatles is used to explore identity, artistry, and what it means to be original. Plus, we ask the big question: would YOU have done anything differently?
It's Red Nose Day! The 40th anniversary of Comic Relief, no less, so Rob and Guy took time from their busy schedule prepping series 4 of Britcom Goes to the Movies to release a Red Nose Day special in which they run down their top five Comic Relief comedy moments. There have been so many great sketches and live comedy moments over the course of the last 40 years since Richard Curtis and Lenny Henry set up the charity. Who can forget Dawn French snogging Hugh Grant, Billy Connolly dancing around Trafalgar Square in the buff, and of course, Hale and Pace putting a red nose on their conks and performing The Stonk? Unfortunately, none of those moments made our top five, but you can find out what did by listening to the show! And he gets critic Manuela Lazic's rundown of some of the most memorable cinematic weddings, from The Godfather to The Graduate. Meanwhile, Ellen talks to actor Susan Wokoma about her favourite wedding romcoms - including the Julia Roberts-starring My Best Friend's Wedding. And she attempts to get to grips with the world of wedding reality TV with comedian Ashley Ray. Producer: Jane Long A Prospect Street production for BBC Radio 4
James Cameron-Wilson reports on box office +13%. Avoiding animated #1 Dog Man, he found #5, September 5, a true-life drama about TV's coverage of the Munich Olympics kidnapping of Israeli athletes totally engrossing, if uncomfortably timely. At #6 is The Brutalist. Despite admiring its many exceptional attributes, including the acting, he found the characters in this 215-minute labour of love tiring. He admired the film but has no wish to see it again. He enjoyed The Gorge on Apple TV+ which begins as a Tom Clancy thriller but ends up being more like a Richard Curtis movie. He found it barmy, surprising and ludicrous. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

For the first time ever on the podcast, we are reviewing a movie that was released in the same decade we are currently in. This is also the first time we've reviewed a remake of a movie directly after talking about the original! This week, we're heading over to Paramount+ for 2023's Genie, a remake of 'Bernard and the Genie', written by the original creator Richard Curtis. In this one, Melissa McCarthy plays a genie who's helping Paapa Essiedu get his family back, while Alan Cumming returns to play the mean boss.Join our Patreon for our bonus episodes! https://www.patreon.com/oldiebutagoodiepodFollow the show!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oldiebutagoodiepod/Facebook: https://fb.me/oldiebutagoodiepodPodcast Platforms: https://linktr.ee/oldiebutagoodiepodGot feedback? This week we ask the question, "Is it cringe to review a Christmas movie in January?" The answer is probably yes, but this movie was so much fun that we don't care. 'Bernard and the Genie' is a 1991 TV movie, written by Richard Curtis, where Bernard (Alan Cumming) gets fired by his mean boss (Rowan Atkinson) and then uses a genie (Lenny Henry) to steal the Mona Lisa. It's incredibly silly, incredibly British, and probably the funniest movie we've reviewed so far this season.Join our Patreon for our bonus episodes! https://www.patreon.com/oldiebutagoodiepodFollow the show!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oldiebutagoodiepod/Facebook: https://fb.me/oldiebutagoodiepodPodcast Platforms: https://linktr.ee/oldiebutagoodiepodGot feedback? The Patreons helped us pick what is the final review of 2024, with a seemingly charming looking Netflix exclusive, That Christmas. Looking for a Christmas movie that starts with references to 9/11, takes place on a porn set, seems like it was written and directed by a 13 year old boy, and says love is determined by physical proximity? Then Love Actually is the movie for you! Samantha and Indy dissect this terrible, offensive, lazy movie that has somehow become a Christmas classic. This episode was originally released on Dec. 12, 2019 Love Actually Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdzH6a-XEGM Love Actually is a 2003 Christmas romantic comedy film written and directed by Richard Curtis. The Christmas film features an ensemble cast, composed predominantly of British actors, many of whom had worked with Curtis in previous projects. An international co-production of the United Kingdom, United States, and France, it was mostly filmed on-location in London. The film delves into different aspects of love as shown through 10 separate stories involving a variety of individuals, many of whom are interlinked as the plot progresses. The story begins five weeks before Christmas and is played out in a weekly countdown until the holiday, followed by an epilogue that takes place in the New Year.

Another year, another Christmas Special! We've scraped the barrel of festive ideas and selected Love Actually, the "greatest Christmas movie of all time", as the unfortunate premise of this year's audio horrorshow. In this edition, Ross G will be asking questions that are very loosely based on the Richard Curtis classic, with answers from Ross D, Anna and Owen. Including: In Love Actually, grumpy husband Alan Rickman gets into trouble when he buys a necklace for a woman who isn't his wife. If you were to buy a gold necklace for another profession, other than L&D, what would it be and why? Creepy romantic Andrew Lincoln spends Love Actually pining after Keira Knightley: The wife of his best friend. What aspect of L&D do you secretly love, but know that you can never be involved with? Spurned husband Colin Firth spends Love Actually learning Portuguese to be with the woman he loves. What L&D language do you plan on spending the Christmas season learning? Aging rocker Bill Nighy performs his single 'Christmas Is All Around Me' naked on TV, to celebrate it taking the Christmas Number 1 spot. What's your great ambition for 2025? During the discussion, Ross D referenced our newsletter 'Every learning intervention you design should be award-worthy' Ross G referenced the Mitchell & Webb sketch 'Are we the baddies?' Anna recommended our 'critical thinking' Skill Bite course. The papers Anna discussed were: Carter, J. W., & Youssef-Morgan, C. (2022). W/C 9th December 2024I am going to mention Love Actually in this week's TFM, and even though it is a bit of a passing reference, it prompted me to search out a video clip that I had seen a snippet of earlier in the week on instagram.I have therefore just watched the full speech that Hugh Grant made, as he introduced Richard Curtis at a recent awards ceremony. I draw it to your attention because it reaffirms why Hugh is such a national treasure, he is grumpy and a little self-centred, and invariably raging about where we managed to find ourselves.I wonder if he would ever consider recording a TFM.Stay safe.Born of Frustration - JamesHugh Grant introduces Richard CurtisTherapy For Me (or TFM as I now refer to it) is a bit of an audio curiosity. It started out as a mechanism for me to clear my head, with the hope that by saying stuff out loud it would act as a little bit of self-help. It's remains loose in style, fluid in terms of content and raw - it's a one take, press record and see what happens, affair. If you want to keep in touch with TFM and the other stuff I do then please follow me on Facebook, Insta, Twitter or Patreon. Thanks for getting this far.

Visuals: https://getbehindthebillboard.com/episode-80-mary-wearEpisode #80 features copywriter extraordinaire Mary Wear.Mary wrote possibly the most important endline in the history of advertising: ‘Make Poverty History' for Comic Relief in 2004 … a line and movement that involved Richard Curtis, World Leaders and saving lives. The line was everywhere - posters, bus sides, advans, on underpants, on Bono's arm, on the side of St Paul's Cathedral and the coup de grâce, on a lectern in front of Nelson Mandela, who was chanting the words ‘Make Poverty History' to thousands gathered in Trafalgar Square. That is more than most people's entire careers and would easily have been enough to fill the episode. The way Mary tells the story of how the line came about is wonderfully humble, involving a planner and a rather talented chap called Peter Souter. But Mary is no one-trick pony. Her locker is full of great work.Starving a parking meter for TfL was a lesson in never giving up, even when the model maker had ruined the idea. What could have been a catastrophe turned into a seminal award-winning piece of work. Then there was seemingly endless more award winning work for The Economist, the Famous Grouse (a double, a small one, a quick one, a large one - they all went down well) plus an Anti-Smoking like never before. Her partnership with Damon Collins at GGT, Saatchi's and AMV was brilliant and prolific. We even had time for some Russian Vodka and flapjacks ;-)Thank you Mary for coming on and sharing some of the industry's greatest OOH work. It was a real privilege.

The Earth has once again fallen under the thrall of some wizened cadaverous monsters, who demand our love, our loyalty, and our uncritical acceptance of the Great Monk theory of history. And the only way to throw off their yoke is with a lot of laborious exposition. It's The Lie of the Land. Notes and links Simon quotes from the Yes, Prime Minister episode The Bishop's Gambit (1986), which discusses the Church of England's dual roles as a religion and as “part of the rich social fabric of this country”. The Doctor's broadcasts from a ship somewhere outside the five-mile limit inevitably remind several of us of an episode of The Goodies called Radio Goodies (1970), in which the trio broadcast a pirate radio station into the UK from international waters, satirising real-world events chronicled in the Richard Curtis film The Boat That Rocked (2009). We've mentioned it before: Doctor Who: The Complete History is a ninety-volume book series covering the series from 1963 to 2017, which means that this episode comes up in Volume 88. The books themselves were beautifully produced, but the series is also available digitally. But here's a summary of where we're up to right now. 500 Year Diary is our latest new Doctor Who podcast, going back through the history of the show and examining new themes and ideas. Its first season came out early this year, under the title New Beginnings. Check it out. It will be back for a second season early in 2025. The Second Great and Bountiful Human Empire has broadcast our hot takes on every new episode of Doctor Who since November last year, and it will be back again in 2025 for Season 2. Last week, Brendan and Bjay's gaming podcast The Bjay BJ Game Show released their latest episode, in which they discuss Lost in Play (2022), a point-and-click adventure set in the imagination of two young children. Brendan, Richard and Steven also recently released another episode of their Avengers podcast The Three Handed Game. It's the first episode of their triptych The Pop Explosion, covering a monochrome Emma Peel episode called Death at Bargain Prices, in which Steed and Mrs Peel go undercover in a London department store and discover a plot to blow up much of the city. And finally there's our Star Trek commentary podcast, Untitled Star Trek Project, featuring Nathan and friend-of-the-podcast Joe Ford. This week, we roared with laughter as Marina Sirtis turned fabulously evil in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called Man of the People.
It's our yearly Halloween episode and this year we chose...Halloween! We crack open Curtis Richard's (Richard Curtis') novelization of the Carpenter original, and he's making a lot of choices.
