What would you do if you saw Boris Johnson coming out of a bush? It's a startling sight but it could happen if he happens to be promoting one of his columns for The Mail. As for his sister, she definitely won't be in a Lidl but might be in a Sainsbury's, you'll know why when you hear the clip. Then we head to the campaign trail for 'The Election Section' and Beth Rigby is the latest presenter to have grilled Sunak and Starmer. Starmer may have done better in that arena but neither are covering themselves in glory with the public. One laughs at a doctor, the other has a tone deaf response to a child's story. Still, not much beats the reception, Esther Macvey got when she made some wild claim about her party. Then to France we go and this is where it becomes apparent that Jemma might have had a night on the tiles and be feeling a little 'fragile' during record. Her French accent is more Del Boy than Del Boy's as Marina points out. Why has Macron called an election? What happened in the EU Parliament elections and why can't Jemma pronounce the word 'effortlessly.' Derek "Del Boy" Trotter, chairman of Trotters Independent Traders, employs his younger brother Rodney into his company. Later, at their local pub, The Nag's Head, Rodney meets Del's friend Trigger, in order to buy some briefcases. On introduction, Trigger acknowledges to Del that he is already acquainted with his brother Rodney but then immediately calls him "Dave".[2] Del negotiates the price of the briefcases down from £17 to £8, and tries to dupe Trigger by claiming the price for the 25 is £175, when it is actually £200. Rodney, however using his GCE in mathematics as proof of his credibility, proves to Trigger that Del's figures are wrong. It soon emerges that not only were the cases stolen, they are also rejects; the combination for them is locked inside. Rodney advises Del to throw the cases in the river. Rodney then suggests to Del that he be made the partnership's financial adviser, on the grounds of him having two GCEs (in maths and art). Del, however, is not happy about this due to Rodney's behaviour regarding the briefcases. The row between the brothers is soon made worse by the latter's buying a cheeseburger for Grandad instead of an Emperor burger due to lack of funds. Grandad gets angry with Rodney as well, and Rodney decides to leave the partnership and venture to Hong Kong. He wishes to go there to see a girl, "Shanghai Lil". She was at art college with Rodney but was deported after they were expelled for smoking cannabis, for which Rodney received a £300 fine and a suspended sentence. The next day, Del trawls London, looking for Rodney and attempting to sell the briefcases, having already previously failed with his telephone contacts. Returning home after having failed to achieve either goal, he is soon joined by Rodney, who only got as far as the Shangri-La doss house in Stoke Newington due to running out of money and forgetting his passport. After they make up, Del informs Rodney that he took his advice and "chucked the bleeding lot in the river", but they floated

We're feeling a bit musical in today's episode of Casual Trek. Charlie's been eager to crowbar in a musical episode after realising it'll get another episode of Picard ticked off our list, then Strange New Worlds provided us with the perfect opportunity to talk music! We've got three episodes all about music. First up is Voyager with a classic Hubris of The Doctor episode where some Space Karens get fascinated with his singing, but do they love him for him, or just his programming? We also end up talking about AI art and the content slurry of it all Then we're over to Picard in heist mode as the gang need to get JL to give an inspirational speech to his ancestor to save all of time. What's the best distraction? Music! Finally we've got the main event of the episode, Strange New Worlds doing a dedicated musical episode. We've got singing, dancing, a fairly thin plot but who cares when you can belt it out like these actors! 12:01 Voyager: Virtuoso 34:54 Picard: Two of One 53:32 Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody Talking points include: Hawkwind, the Eurovision Song Contest, Subwoolfer, the new Babylon 5 cartoon, The Poseidon Adventure, The Silt Verses (podcast & RPG), The Manics covering the MASH theme tune, Britpop, Miles' poor taste Burroughs joke, Bono's smugness, The Doctor being the third Crane brother, AI art, Paul Williams' oeuvre, Neelix being a Phil Spector and/or a Del Boy of space, Only Fools & Horses, using Coldplay as white noise, The Borg Queen rips off Scorpius' bit, an alternate casting choice for Professor X from the TNG cast, that time Professor X enslaved a sentient Danger Room, the Metropolis remake, Scott Pilgrim, Buffy, The Magicians, Riverdale, Dr Who's musical audio episode, Macross, modern musicals, Across the Spider-Verse, Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Chuck Austen run of Charlie's X-Men marathon. Oh, and occasionally Star Trek. Pedants Corner: James Newman was the “just some bloke” who the UK sent to Eurovision in 2021 Miles is not a Eurovision expert so he doesn't know Wales don't compete (although it'd be good if they did) and we'd gone on about Eurovision for long enough I didn't want to go back and correct him Where's all the Taylor Swift in episodes we've covered? What does it mean to be truly funny? We often associate the word ‘funny' with comedy and making people laugh. But it can also mean being witty, incisive ironic, playful, teasing, or delivering little moments of truth. On this episode, I'm speaking to comedy writer Paul Dornan, whose new company, True Funny, helps people discover what makes them funny — in the loosest sense of the word — and how they can maximise that in the way they present themselves. Not to make them artificially funny in an [inster funny joke here] type way, but naturally and authentically. In our discussion, we explored how Paul came to become a comedy writer, working with comedy legend Barry Humphries. He explains how comedy was an inherent part of his family and how that led him to his career. We explore what makes comedy work and why being funny is all about being human.Paul shares some of his thoughts about how being more authentic can make us more engaging and how the increasing power of cognitive technology means we all need to be more human. To find out more about Paul and his company, True Funny: https://truefunny.co.uk/During our discussion, Paul referred to a number of comedians and comedy shows:Barry Humphries and Barry's comedy alter ego Dame Edna Everage: https://www.dame-edna.com/A clip that Paul referred to where Dame Edna speaks to former UK Prime Minister Ted Heath. In this episode- recorded live and in person on Boxing Day (December 26th) 2022 with my sister Amanda- we discuss beloved British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, specifically the episode 'Yuppy Love' which is a key episode for the show, not least because it contains the iconic moment where Del Boy falls through the bar.
Dan set us up with a kinda music theme this week, with the excellent Good Vibrations for the midweeker and Netflix's I USED TO BE FAMOUS for this week's main event.I Used to be Famous is the story of Vince, former boy band star, now busker in Del Boy's neck of the woods. Through a chance encounter Vince meets autistic drummer boy Stevie and his overly protective mother. Vince sees a chance to rekindle his music career by exploiting/joining forces with Stevie. If I'm being kind I'd say that the movie shines a light on youngsters with autism and has a sweet plot and a pleasing romantic subplot. I'm not feeling kind though, so all I can tell you is that this film is just very mediocre. AND, for a movie that has a plot where all the characters are musicians or performers it has a shockingly bad soundtrack. Probably one to avoid I'm afraid.Gudetama is an egg yolk. An egg yolk with a butt crack. They actually animated a but crack on this thing. What a time to be alive. I don't think I need to say much more, suffice to say that this was a big hit with Dan and Sidey! We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. In an interview with Edge of Arcady, the band describe the main character of the track as "a Frank Gallagher meets Del Boy character who'll sell you a TV just as soon as he's lifted it from your living room." The accompanying video — written, filmed, and edited by the band themselves — follows Chancer in a day-in-the-life clip. Check it out below. TYSON FURY this week goes over old ground when he takes on Derek Chisora for a third time. Is there any way on planet earth that Del Boy can uncork a miracle and win?Though Fury-Chisora III will get the most attention this weekend, it's far from the best fight being staged. So we focus, too, on a beyond worthy third fight between Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman Gonzalez, while also examining the fascinating domestic clash between Troy Williamson and Josh Kelly,All of last weekend's action is reviewed and, in This Week, we venture back to Leonard-Duran II. No mas? No chance! All the latest news, including Eubank Jnr-Smith being on PPV, is also on the menu.If you can, a review and a follow would be hugely appreciated.

Helen and Danni head to Scotland and beyond this week to learn all about The Monster Butler…Archibald Hall. Growing up, young Archibald (or Roy, as he liked to call himself) became obsessed with the glitz and glamour of the silver screen. He fell in love with it's debonair leading men, and all the wealth they enjoyed… and so, he thought, why not me? Thus ensued a lifetime of crime, lies and ultimately… murder. Expect possibly one of the shittest robbers in British history, another EXCELLENT voice for Danni's collection and a murder story that almost feels a bit Del Boy had it not been so sad. Devils in The Dark contains graphic details of violence and murder, and is not intended for all audiences. Listener discretion is strongly advised. This episode is sponsored by: Typology. An economist that hunted crocodiles? An inventor who constructed prison camp radios and hydraulic models of the economy? An adventurer that could speak five different languages and was arrested for spying? Who is this ‘Indiana Jones of Economics' as he was once described? We discuss in this episode the remarkable life and times of A.W. Phillips or ‘Bill' as he was known to his friends. He has one of the most incredible life stories of any of the economists we have covered in our show whilst remaining immensely relevant to modern economic discussion. His formulation of a curve bearing his name still helps form the framework for debates about trade-offs in the macroeconomy. In this podcast from your friendly neighbourhood economists, Pete and Gav, you will discover all about the life of A.W. Phillips and his contribution to economics. There is a quiz as always and a great poem that ends the episode! Technical support as always comes from ‘Del Boy' Nic, who this time, next year, will be a millionaire!
