Competitive Pioneer made its return to Paper Magic in the USA at the Star City Games Open and 5k and The First Pioneers wanted to have a good look at all the decks that were being played at the event. While it was part of a team event, Pioneer fans should still get a lot of great data and information about the format from the results. We also took a look at the 5K event the following day as well. Aside from the results, last weekend we also got a chance to see what the format was like without its good friend Lurrus. How did those decks that had Lurrus previously change their style, their gameplay, and their sideboard? We took a look at some of the newest post Lurrus decklists as well as described how the metagame has changed without it. If your Lurrus deck took a hit, be sure to check out how to go about fixing it! Our Discord: https://discord.gg/SBRF8DH Our Twitter: https://twitter.com/MtgPioneer

This episode is all about helping casual players manage their first tournament of each type. Starting with Prereleases then moving into FNM, PPTQ, and finally a Grand Prix or SCG Open, we'll give you some general tips for how to prepare and what to expect at each level. Whether you've never been to a tournament in your life or you're a regular FNM player that wants to attend your first GP, we've got you covered! This may sound like a lot of information, but don't worry! We're sharing all this with you because it's all stuff that we, in our many years of attending various flavors of tournaments, have screwed up or run into in the past and we really just want to save you the hassle. Most of it is relatively simple and seems pretty obvious...until the one time you don't think about it. "Know where you're going." "Make sure you know the format you'll be playing." "Find out how to not starve to death." Just try to keep these seemingly obvious things in the back of your mind! Come join us in the future! Galan Falakfarsa has been grinding competitive Magic for about 6 years. His first exciting finish was in 2012 with an SCG Open top 8. Since then he's made top 8 at several PTQs and PPTQs and played in a couple RPTQs. His GP Santa Clara finish was his biggest so far & he's very stoked to play in Pro Tour Magic 25 in Aug. He would miss obviously good lines of play. Galan learned from older players and slowed down his play. Worst Magic Moment At a Modern event, Galan played a Splinter Twin mirror match and made some huge misplays. He fell prey to making the common play instead of the less common one that would have helped him win. Proudest Magic Moment Top 4 at GP Santa Clara. What Have You Learned From Magic Decision-making.
