Recently We had the pleasure of visiting Soil Born Farms right here in Rancho Cordova. If you have never visited Soil Born I would recommend a visit.     So what is Soil Born Farms?  Inspired by a shared vision of healthy food for all, a dedication to improving the quality of life in our community and a love of the natural world, three co-founders transformed the farm into a non-profit organization in November 2004. With help from a small group of talented staff and apprentices, foundation grants, grassroots support, dedicated volunteers and encouragement from community partners, Soil Born Farms grew to operate two urban farms on 55 acres in Sacramento and Rancho Cordova. It has evolved into a nationally recognized center for the promotion of urban agriculture, sustainable food systems, and healthy food education.  Soil Born Farms is about so much: growing food, mentoring youth and future farmers, teaching people how to cook and garden, creating urban farms and preserving wild spaces, developing partnerships and improving access to fresh produce throughout our community, and at the core, it is about making a difference. It means transforming a shared vision of healthy food for all into a local reality.  On this episode of the Rancho Cordova Podcast, we have an informative conversation with Founder and Co-Director Shawn Harrison   So join us on this journey toward a healthier Rancho Cordova and Sacramento as a whole.

Today I take a trip down memory lane to honor and recognize some of the women I've been close to in my life who have shaped me and my life in some way. During Women's History Month we tend to focus on the famous or unrecognized female "pioneers," but a big theme in this show is that "women's work" is so often undervalued and not rewarded in the same way as most "achievements" are celebrated. This show is me thanking all of the women in my life regardless of "achievement." Your existence is enough! I couldn't name and appreciate all of them and could have shared even more than I did about those I did recognize, but it's a start of a practice that I hope to engage with more regularly. Here are the ones I celebrated on today's show. My Great-Grandmother Viola Dietrich, Grandmother Shirley Cirillo, Grandmother Dorothy Widmann, Mom Sandra Widmann, Aunt and God-Mother Dawn Scarce, Sister Angela Widmann, first friend Stefanie Mulby (Rice), close pals from elementary, middle and high school Jodi Roberts (Finzel), Pamela Toshner (Stubbe) and Ann Casamassa, college Stephanie Berry (Sweeney) and Mary Lindsley, law school Karen O'Keeffe, Sandy Steinman and Jane Sigda, the Squirrels Joyce Manalo, Tiziana Agnello, Emily Furr and Belinda Downey, first Hudson Valley friend Sara Schneller and then a few of the many amazing women in the Hudson Valley who I am so grateful to call friends, Shana Falana, Neslihan Ulus Lord and Tarah Gay. Special shout outs to Tara Sanders for inspiring this show (and being a most amazing friend), Melissa Morse for being on "my team" in elementary school, Rita Bolla Lapinel, Shawn Harrison, Sarah Carlson, Carla Rozman and Marielena Ferrer who've been especially present in the past few years. There are so many who I can think of writing this who I left out like Erin Widmann (Kujawa) duh!, Holly Egan Arnold, Tracy Bettenhausen Jennings, Wendy Wein White, Melissa Walkowiak, Brandie Tetzlaff (McPherson), Claudia Beck (Giesie), Angela Hamilton (Stubbe), Connie DeBie-Bailey, Kathy Obler (Ben's Mom), and of course my nieces! There are others. I don't know how to end it. I feel like making an art project to honor them all. I love each of you and thank you for being a part of my long and winding life. Here's the playlist I mentioned for those interested in hearing more of the songs that got me through college and beyond.Today's show was engineered by Ian Seda of Radio Kingston. Our show music is from Shana Falana !!!Feel free to email me, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.org** Please: SUBSCRIBE to the pod and leave a REVIEW wherever you are listening, it helps other users FIND IThttp://iwantwhatshehas.org/podcastITUNES | SPOTIFY | STITCHERITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-want-what-she-has/id1451648361?mt=2SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/77pmJwS2q9vTywz7Uhiyff?si=G2eYCjLjT3KltgdfA6XXCASTITCHER: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/she-wants/i-want-what-she-has?refid=stpr'Follow:INSTAGRAM * https://www.instagram.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast/FACEBOOK * https://www.facebook.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcastTWITTER * https://twitter.com/wantwhatshehas

Today, Theresa was joined by special surprise guest Eva Tenuto from the TMI Project, talking about all the amazing initiatives they have going on, Black Stories Matter, LGBTQTMI, Locker Room Talk and Vicarious Resilience, in an effort to drive awareness of their 24 hour fundraising campaign for Hudson Valley Gives. Not from the Hudson Valley, they can come to you, or you can check out their work online and even host a Black Stories matter viewing party in your community. And don't forget to give and support their transformational work. (Note time approx 15 mins in.) Next up Theresa is joined by three women working in the body, mind, and wellness field: Shawn Harrison, host of Mindful a weekly radio show at Radio Kingston, a yoga educator, and creator and steward of Mudita Yoga Lab in Uptown Kingston. Cory Nakasue, Astrologer, Writer, Therapist and teacher who incorporates yoga, pilates, kinesiology and dermoneuromodulation into her offerings at Body Intelligence. Cory is also the co-founder of Gemini Hill, an artist collective, farm cooperative and event space.  Nidhi Adhiya-Huba, Yoga Therapist, Sound and Space Healer, Artist, Mama and Entrepreneur who incorporates aromatherapy, crystal healing and ayurvedic wisdom into her offerings. Nidhi is also the founder of Aum Home and Bliss Babes Retreats. Our conversations winds through the why and how of what they do, listening to the wisdom of the body, the return of the feminine, the benefits of yoga and meditation, getting out of boxes and structure and into chaos and freedom, women's circles, rituals and what their own personal daily self care practices look like. These women authentically embody their teachings and offer them from a place of compassion and sincerity. It was an honor to be in conversation with them! Hello ery'body... Theresa is in ITALY so it's just me, Shana Falana, holding down the fort! It's also my last day on the air, but please don't be sad... Theresa is excited to continue the "i want what SHE has" journey and will keep bringing you incredible guests and conversations. It's been an honor to serve you all, I'm happy to report that my music life is picking up and I just need do 'self care' and let something in my schedule go, alas this glorious show.  My first guest today is Katy Kondrat. She is a mother, singer, the manager of the Kingston NY Farmers Market, and now the council member (but also founder) of the Kingston Food Coop. Katy's interest in bringing community and farms together started when she was at SUNY New Paltz. We talk about her love of collaboration, music, and her gift of community organizing. She recently launched the membership drive of Co-op at Rough Draft books during the Common Wealth Hudson Valley event, in which Evelyn Wright, founder, explains to us some of the alternative economic growth that is happening here. We play a clip of Evelyn's introduction! My second guest today is Jolie Holland.  She is a beloved singer, songwriter and performer that you may also remember from the Be Good Tanyas. Shana and Jolie knew eachother in San Fransisco in the early 2000's which made for a more intimate interview. Jolie shares  about life on the road, her stage fright, and how difficult the music business is. Her message ultimately though, what else would I do? The answer, "keep going".  Self Care: I (Shana) share about how this show has been a gift to ME! By interviewing women this last year 'that have what I want' it has aloud me to take my power back instead of giving it away, thinking that others have things I could never attain.... I also read from a quote from the book "Get Over It" by Iyanla Vanzant. Today's show was engineered by Ben Benton of Radio Kingston, www.radiokingston.org with special support from Manuel Blas. Next week our guests are yoga teachers Nidhi Huba, Shawn Harrison and Cory Nakasue. We heard music from Shana Falana, http://www.shanafalana.com/. Beau Beaullieu: New Iberia Business Leader Enhancing the Lives of Others

Discover Lafayette

Beau Beaullieu is a dynamic presence who is leaving an indelible and positive mark on New Iberia. On this episode of Discover Lafayette, Beau visits with Jan Swift about why he is motivated to enhance the lives of others, whether it's through his work as a financial retirement planner, as a community volunteer, or the good deeds accomplished through the Iberia Parish Foundation which he helped found in 2007. Since our original podcast, Beau Beaullieu was elected to serve as Louisiana State Representative for District 48. An opportunity to meet with Simon Sinek, the author of "Start With Why" who has delivered one of the most popular Ted Talks ever, inspired Beau to think about what really motivates him in life. The "why" for Beau is to make choices in life which will enhance the lives of others. The path he follows is one of servant leadership which has resulted in successful outcomes in his business and philanthropic endeavors, and is in line with his faith and belief that he was created to do God's work on earth by helping others. A partner in CoSource Financial Group, Beau specializes in creating comprehensive retirement plans for businesses and their employees.  He co-founded the company in June 2001, a couple of months before the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast. Beau jokingly states that he and his partner, Shawn Harrison' also weathered the dot com bubble bursting, the 2008 real estate crash, the BP Oil spill, and most recently, the oil and gas downturn which has challenged so many local businesses. They've not only survived these challenges, but they have also thrived and have offices in Lafayette, New Iberia, Thibodeaux, Beaumont, and plan to open a fifth office in New Orleans in late 2019. The advisors at Co-Source Financial Group focus on getting all employees ready for retirement by teaching the need to increase savings. According to Beau, their "secret sauce" is painting a picture for each individual as to what their life might look like when they are 65 years old and able to reap the benefits of sound financial planning by saving throughout their work career. A native of New Iberia, Beau graduated from LSU with a degree in finance and then earned an MBA at UL Lafayette.  He lives in New Iberia with his wife Kaci, and 4 children. On the civic and volunteer side, Beau was named one of the 'Top 20 under 40 Leaders In Acadiana' by the Daily Advertiser and The705 in 2013. He is a Member of Council 11793 for the Knights of Columbus, an Iberia Cultural Resources Association Board Member, served on the Iberia Parish Industrial Development Foundation, as a member and past President of the New Iberia Kiwanis Club, and was awarded the Civic Service Award by the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce in 2018.  He served as a leader on the team that established the Iberia Parish Foundation (which is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Acadiana). An initial $100 investment has now mushroomed into a fund worth almost $4 million dollars. One of the important projects supported by the Foundation is the Leader In Me program, a program taught to young students which is modeled upon the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People principles written by Stephen R. Covey. Students are taught the importance of self-discipline and teamwork, social and emotional awareness, and many other life skills that will get them ready for success in today's world. Leader In Me has been incorporated in New Iberia at Daspit Elementary, Jeanerette Elementary, North Street Elementary, and St. Charles Elementary Schools and the school system hopes to expand into a fifth school next year. Beau is also a cook and alongside Andy Soileau and their New Iberia Kiwanis Club, the team has won first place eleven times at the World Championship Gumbo Cookoff.  Their top recipe under the Melange category is smoked turkey and andouille gumbo which was written up in Southern Living Magazine here.

The Dawgs play the Utah State Aggies on Friday afternoon in Columbus, but who are they, and how do they match up? Shawn Harrison, the Utah State beat writer for the Logan Herald Journal joins us with some thoughts on the team, and who expects to come out on top. On Fun with Audio, a couple of choice clips from Mike Francesa, including one showing he knows nothing about Washington or Utah State basketball, Joe Lunardi predicting a Dawgs loss, more Rough and Rowdy fighters, and Conor McGregor firing up the Boston Bruins. Malik McDowell is apparently visiting the Dallas Cowboys, but wait, wasn't he supposed to be too injured to play football again? It's going to be especially frustrating to watch them in Dallas because they're contenders, assuming he actually goes there of course. If he can play, shouldn't he still be here? Friday's tournament game will be the biggest basketball game in Seattle in at least eight years. Despite all of the negativity brought on by some fans, just try to enjoy the game.

The Kings return like a cold sore on Florida political news. John and Dave wade through the blue-green ballroom dance of Florida politicians, capitalists and bipartisanship in the chambers of the Fanjul mansions and US Sugar hunting lodges. Jeff Greene isn't voting for Ron Howard. 39,000 people don't get Medicaid so Rick Scott can spend 100 million big ones on urinal cakes that say "Visit Florida". Jobs are up, but the ability to receive medical care isn't. Dana Young and every single Republican state legislator from the Tampa Bay area with the exception of Shawn Harrison decline a special session to repeal Stand Your Ground after the murder of Markeis McGlockton. Also, surprise, the arrest warrant for Michael Drejka states exactly what was reported in the press days after the murder. This is a media empire founded on anal bleaching. Thank you.

On a recent radio broadcast, radical right-wing commentator Sheila Zilinsky use the controversy over athletes kneeling during the national anthem to warn that the NFL is working with the government to brainwash Americans so they can easily be herded into FEMA prison camps housed inside NFL stadiums.   After seeing the EW cover with the original cast of Family Matters, social media had one question: “Where's Judy?” So I searched for Judy and found her. Now a mother of a son, and just putting the final touches on her book about growing up as a child star, Foxworth wasn't at all shocked to see the cover. Although she received her walking papers from the show, she's still close with Payton, McCrary, Williams and Shawn Harrison, who hilariously played everyone's favorite goofball Waldo Gerlado Faldo.
