Ffilm 12 munud, 2 eiliad a wnaed gan Hetain Patel yn 2024 yw Come As You Really Are. Mae'r ffilm yn archwilio creadigrwydd a brwdfrydedd neilltuol pobl sy'n ymroi i'w hobïau. Mae'n dangos amrywiaeth o hobïau o bob rhan o'r wlad, o ddawnsio dull rhydd i nofio gwyllt, gwisg-chwarae, garddio, mân reilffyrdd, modelau awyrennau radio-reoledig, ffeltio, addasu ceir, casglu, mân grochenwaith, mân origami a chelf addurno ewinedd. Nod Patel oedd dod â'r hobïau cwbl wahanol hyn ynghyd a'u cysylltu'n weledol drwy naratif sinematig anunionlin, gan ddefnyddio lliw, gweadedd a siâp i adrodd stori weledol wrth i hobïau ailymddangos drwy gydol y ffilm. Mae'r olygfa sy'n dangos olwynion car yn troi, er enghraifft, yn arwain at olygfa uwchben mân olwyn lestri'n troelli; mae merched sy'n dawnsio ac yn neidio i'r awyr yn arwain at awyrennau'n hedfan, gan adlewyrchu'r ymdeimlad o ryddid. Mae cysylltiad corfforol hefyd rhwng hobïau sy'n ymddangos gyda'i gilydd drwy wrthrychau o waith llaw a deithiodd o gwmpas y wlad i bob lleoliad ffilmio: mân origami, llestri, ffigwr Warhammer a chwningen ffelt. Creodd y rhain ymdeimlad o'r annisgwyl, megis golygfa o fân geffyl origami ar gygnau rhywun sy'n dal yr olwyn lywio wrth addasu car. Mae cyfosod y rhain yn creu eiliadau a allai fod yn ddigrif neu'n rhyfedd, ond sy'n adlewyrchu realiti'r cysylltiad annisgwyl. Mae'r ffilm yn dilyn arddull adnabyddus yr artist o gyfuno cynhyrchiad sinematig o safon uchel â golygfeydd pob dydd i arddangos hobïau byrhoedlog a gwrthrychau o waith llaw mewn ieithwedd weledol sydd fel arfer yn nodweddiadol o ffilmiau Hollywood a hysbysebu eitemau moethus. Creodd Hetain Patel y prosiect cenedlaethol Come As You Really Are gydag Artangel, gan gynnwys 13 o gyflwyniadau rhanbarthol ledled Cymru, Lloegr, Gogledd Iwerddon a'r Alban rhwng haf 2024 a 2027. Dechreuodd y prosiect, a adwaenid fel The Hobby Cave gynt, drwy alw ar aelodau o'r cyhoedd ledled y wlad i rannu'r gweithgaredd y maent yn rhoi o'u hamser hamdden iddo. Ledled y wlad, bu cyflwyniadau o waith llaw gan y rhai hynny sy'n dilyn hobi penodol ochr yn ochr â darnau newydd a blaenorol gan Patel. Rhan ganolog yr arddangosfeydd hyn oedd Come As You Really Are (2024), y ffilm newydd a wnaed ar gyfer y prosiect hwn, gan adlewyrchu diddordebau byrhoedlog na fyddai wedi bod yn bosib eu cyfleu fel arall. Crëwyd Somerset Road (2024), sef Ford Escort wedi'i bwytho gan yr artist yn ôl patrwm y carped yn ystafell fyw ei fam-gu, ar gyfer yr arddangosfa hefyd. Mae'r gwrthrychau hyn a wnaed â llaw dros amser yn adleisio'n uniongyrchol y gwaith corfforol y mae cymunedau mudol megis teulu Patel wedi ymgymryd ag ef yn aml, ac mae eu natur hybrid yn cyfeirio at y posibiliadau newydd sy'n dod i'r amlwg pan fyddwn yn herio confensiynau. Cyflwynodd Come As You Really Are amrywiaeth o hobïau a oedd yn dangos rhyddid mynegiant a dyfeisgarwch yr unigolyn, gan ehangu ein canfyddiad ynghylch pwy sy'n greadigol a tharddiad yr awydd i greu. Mae cymuned o bobl ledled y wlad yn ganolog i'r prosiect hwn, ac mae eu llafur cariad yn galluogi'r artist i gyflwyno portread amgen o'r DU. Ochr yn ochr ag Oriel Gelf Glynn Vivian, cymerodd y sefydliadau partner canlynol ran yn y prosiect: Factory International, Manceinion; Oriel Gelf Grundy, Blackpool; Museum of Making, ymddiriedolaeth Derby Museums; National Festival of Making gydag Amgueddfa ac Oriel Gelf Blackburn; Oriel Gelf Wolverhampton; Barnsley Civic; Amgueddfa ac Oriel Gelf Inverness; Oriel Celf Gyfoes y Gogledd, Sunderland; CCA Derry~Londonderry; Hospitalfield yn Arbroath; a Tate St Ives.

Archwiliodd y gyfres ‘Zen Gardener' breifatrwydd man gardd fel lleoliad perfformio, gweithgarwch artistig, darlunio a dychymyg. Dyma waith celf ar ffurf cyfres o fideos sy'n cynnwys tua 80 o ffilmiau sydd wedi'u harddangos yn rhyngwladol ac sydd wedi'u harchifo mewn nifer o gasgliadau cyhoeddus. Yn ddiarwybod, mae'r ardd yn lleoliad cysylltiedigrwydd, yn ficrocosm o fyd mwy, lle caiff ffiniau, mamwlad, ymylon diwylliannol a gwleidyddiaeth eu harchwilio. Yn flaenllaw yn y ffilmiau hyn y mae ffigwr milwrol sy'n gwisgo dillad cuddliw nad ydyn nhw'n ei ffitio. Mae'r lifrai'n cuddio awdurdod symbolaidd ac yn colli pŵer machismo. Mae Finnemore yn ymddiddori mewn syniadau o guddliwiau diwylliannol a sut mae “ymgymysgu” yn dechneg ar gyfer goroesi. Mae'n fwgwd allanol i symud o gwmpas heb ddenu sylw. Mae'r motiff militaraidd hwn hefyd yn estyniad cyfoes o fyth paganaidd/Celtaidd y Dyn Gwyrdd – ffigwr defodol a wnaed o ganghennau coed, deiliach, planhigion, blodau. Mae cymeriad y garddwr gerila yn ffilm Finnemore yn cyfuno natur a diwylliant. Mae e'n amalgam o wahanol archdeipiau. Ffigwr golau a chysgod: addfwyn, comig, sinistr, bardd, ffŵl cysegredig a diogyn, siaman, troedfilwr, gwrthryfelwr, milwr gerila a goroeswr. Yr ysbrydoliaeth ar gyfer y ffigwr ymladdgar hwn yw cymeriad Charlie Chaplin yn The Great Dictator. Rôl ddeuol Adenoid Hynkel (ffigwr tebyg i Hitler) a barbwr Iddewig comig dienw (dyn cyffredin). Yn y ffilm hon, mae Chaplin yr actor, yr ysgrifennwr a'r cyfarwyddwr yn defnyddio comedi, trasiedi a dwyster i wynebu peryglon ffasgiaeth y 1940au a rhybuddio'r byd amdanyn nhw. Mae cymeriadau cyfochrog Chaplin yn rhannu'r un lifrai ond maen nhw'n ei ddefnyddio at ddibenion gwahanol iawn. Dyma gymeriadau sydd ar ddwy ochr yr un geiniog. Mae Chaplin yn defnyddio chwerthin a digrifwch mewn modd chwyldroadol, gan gymodi cymeriadau croes. Mae comedi a thrasiedi bellach yn gydgyfnewidiol. Hiwmor yw deallusrwydd, gan hwyluso dealltwriaeth a gwaredigaeth. Mae Peter Finnemore yn artist sy'n ceisio amlygu pethau, gan groesawu amrywiaeth eang ac iaith arfer celf ffotograffig wrth weithio drwy amrywiaeth o gyfryngau, gan gynnwys celf ffotograffig, fideo, gweithgareddau perfformio, gosodweithiau, ysgrifennu ac arfer curadu. Mae'n ymchwilio i'r cyfnewid deinamig rhwng bywgraffiad a phresenoldeb, cof cenedlaethau, diwylliant, hanes a gwreiddiau, a ddechreuodd drwy archwilio cysyniad cartref, cof a stori mewn cyd-destun diwylliannol Cymreig. Graddiodd Peter Finnemore ym 1987 mewn Ffotograffiaeth Celfyddyd Gain yn Ysgol Gelf Glasgow yn yr Alban. Ym 1994, derbyniodd MFA mewn Ffotograffiaeth ym Mhrifysgol Michigan yn Unol Daleithiau America.

Send a question for 'Ask Megan'Hey, Podcasters! Most podcast advice focuses on how to keep your show going. But this week on Buzzcast, we explored a different question: When is it time to start something new? We're not talking about quitting podcasting. In fact, quite the opposite. We're talking about when a podcast naturally reaches the end of its run. Sometimes it's because your interests evolve. And other times, you've learned so much from your first show that you're ready to apply those skills to a new idea. One of my favorite takeaways from the episode was that some projects end like a funeral, but others can end like a graduation! You finished what you set out to do, and now you're excited about what's next.In this episode, the Buzzcast team talks about several reasons podcasters start a second show:• They've discovered a new topic they're genuinely excited about • They've outgrown the original format • They want to experiment with a different style of podcasting • They have uncovered a new idea while creating their current showThe good news is that none of the work from your first podcast goes away! You still have the skills, the experience, the confidence behind the mic, and everything you've learned along the way.So if you've been kicking around a new podcast idea or wondering whether it's time to explore something different, I think you'll really enjoy this conversation! Listen to BuzzcastEpisode of the Week The past few weeks, you've heard me talk a lot about video podcasting. It's an exciting time to be thinking about video, but it can also be confusing to know if it's the right fit for your podcast. In this episode of Insider Secrets to a Top 100 Podcast with Courtney Elmer, Alban and Courtney discuss how to know if video is worth adding to your show and what it takes to do it well! Listen to EpisodeHave a question for Megan? The socialised cost of online abuse

PING

This time on PING I'm talking to Alban Kwan from the Trusted Notifier Network (TNN). I caught up with Alban at the APRICOT/APNIC61 meeting held recently in Jakarta, where Alban was attending the policy and governance sessions with a particular interest in the problem of online abuse mitigation. Alban is interested in bridging the gap between the business and technical communities in this problem space. When it comes to crafting a response, business tends to focus on brand integrity and the real world cost of mitigation when their products and services are abused, used for spam or fraud or suffer inbound attacks against them. The technical community tends to be focused on things like network traffic level views of problems, found in deep packet inspection, running honey nets, looking at firewall logs and in turn, tends to drive security activities in network technology. It's a very real cultural divide. We've discussed the more technical, packet-level distributed threats on previous episodes of ping. We've talked with Adli Wahid from APNIC and with Leslie Daigle from Global Cyber Alliance, discussing honey nets which present as low barrier attack targets and can measure the levels of abuse coming to unprotected websites and online services and help pinpoint where they come from. In addition, Leslie has raised her concern that we need a conversation in wider civil society about the governance issues to address this problem because technology alone can't solve what's clearly a societal problem. TNN is part of that civil society response to online abuse, albeit in a slightly different form, focussed on communication between the involved parties and a concept of a higher trust channel, a better signal-to-noise ratio which reduces real world cost and preserves business reputation. Alban has an interesting analytical model of how to think about the problem and I think it's interesting to look at his engagement with business process and how people build mutuality and trust dealing with abuse problems of any kind.

A Dialogue with Justin Jackson and Alban BrookeJust in Jackson from Transistor.fm is so enthusiastic about Apple's new way to add video to their platform (called HLS). I have felt "Meh" about it since it was announced (I'm worried about using API's instead of using the RSS feed). So I wanted to see if I was missing something that might lead me to feel more like Justin.Later that same week Alban Brook from Buzzsprout reached out and so I combined the interviews to show multiple points of view about Apple's HLS implementation not that more hosts are being approved to connect to Apple via their API.Justin's View is Based On Younger PeopleWhile I have no children Justin has a few and he explained how watching them he sees them move from watching video to switching to audio. So the HLS video in Apple supports this (and it's already available on YouTube music, and Spotify. This explains why Justin would have a viewpoint different than mine.Dialogues are amazing, and you just might learn something. Try one today. They are free!Alban's View on The "Give People What They Want" focus of Apple PodcastsWhen you go to YouTube, they drown you in options as they try to get you to click on anything. With Apple's new video options, when you log into Apple, you primarily see the shows that you've told Apple you want to see. Consequently, it may be a better experience. Kevin Finn on the Buzzcast show compared YouTube and the horrible experience to going to the movies, where everything is overpriced and the floor is sticky. The experience isn't as good.Don't Take on Too MuchIf you're a video creator already, adding your show to YouTube seems like a no brainer, and Alaban and Just both mentioned that when people signed up to be beta testers, many of the people chomping at the bit were already video creators.Justin mentions that much like coloring, you start with three colors and learn how to keep people engaged. Then start adding more colors. With podcasting it may make more sense to start with audio, and then add video. We are in a Wait and See PeriodWe don't actually know if this is going to take off. While we don't expect Apple to topple YouTube, we are interested to see just how many people jump on board. Both companies mentioned the benefits of being an early adopter.Pricing for HLS HostingTransistor offers HLS video on any package of of $49 and higher.Buzzsprout offers 6 hours a month for $30 ($25 if you purchase yearly).Captivate is $19/month with an additional $12 for video.Keep in mind Transistor and Captivate operate on a "As many shows and episodes as you want (but you bill goes up depending on downloads/traffic). Buzzsprout's model is a "per show" fee, but you can have as many downloads as you want. For more information on other hosts as they are added see this article on Podnews. The Bridge Podcast on YouTubeJustin shared the story of The Bridge with Peter Mansbridge a former Candaian broadcaster who has now moved to YouTube who is having great success without amazing Thumbnails and fancy studios.Acquired Charges Millions for SponsorshipThere are always shows that break the mold, and Acquired is one of them. They do limited shows that engage a certain audience (CEOs), and consequently are charging millions for sponsor a season (and are already sold out). They describe their show as, "We (Ben and David) personally invest 100+ hours each to research and produce a ~4 hour "conversational audiobook,” telling a company's complete history and strategy.Spotify's Video Options are BlurryI am always cautious about Spotify. We all know they are not fans of RSS, and they like to make features that only work in Spotify. In a recent article at Podnews, Jame Cridlan explains how uploading a video from your media host into Spotify may lock you into using the media host (where an RSS enables you to redirect the feed). There is talk that Spotify may manually be able to switch your show back to RSS (with consequences). My point is we currently don't know so if you plan on posting video to Spotify, you might setup a free hosting account and uplaod the video there. ( I do that for my "Ask the Podcast Coach" show).Mentioned In the ShowSchool of PodcastingPodcasting in Six WeeksTransistor Media HostingBuzzsprout Media HostingCaptivate Media HostingThe Video Podcast ShowPodcast Marketing Trends ExplainedThe Panel PodcastBuzzcast PodcastLinks Mentioned In This EpisodeVideo podcast host pricing - comparisons from PodnewsBeware Spotify's video lock-in from PodnewsMentioned in this episode:Question of the Month: Favorite Remote Recording ToolSo many podcasters us tools to do remote recording (guests, etc). In this episode of Prison Breaking with Sarah & Paul, Sarah Wayne Callies revisits Prison Break Season 3, Episode 3 (“Call Waiting”) and sits down with actor Carlo Alban, who played fan-favorite Sona inmate Luis “McGrady” Gallego. McGrady quickly became one of the most memorable characters inside the brutal Sona prison, bringing humanity and heart to one of the darkest seasons of Prison Break. Carlo shares behind-the-scenes stories about joining the show, working with Wentworth Miller, filming the intense Sona escape sequences, and how his character survived among some of the most dangerous inmates in the series. Carlo also reveals:• How McGrady was originally supposed to appear in only a few episodes• What it was like arriving on set in Season 3 with an entirely new cast inside Sona• Filming the escape scenes with helicopters, boats, and underwater shots• Why McGrady stood out as one of the only characters in Sona who kept his kindness• His surprising journey from Sesame Street to Prison Break Along the way, Sarah reflects on rewatching Season 3 of Prison Break, the show's evolving tone, and why the story of Michael Scofield's plan inside Sona still captivates fans nearly two decades later. Truth, Lies and Workplace Culture

Welcome back to Truth, Lies & Work, the award-winning workplace podcast where behavioural science meets organisational culture. In the corporate world, we are obsessed with personality. We use DISC, Myers-Briggs, and Enneagrams to "colour-code" our colleagues and predict who will be a great leader. But what if we've been looking at the wrong data? In this episode, we sit down with Juliette Alban-Metcalfe, a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and CEO of Real World Group. Juliette is at the forefront of leadership research, building on the groundbreaking work of her mother, Professor Beverly Alimo-Metcalfe. Juliette argues that personality only explains a tiny fraction of leadership success. Instead, the real "magic sauce" is behaviour—the specific, observable actions that leaders take to engage their teams and foster success. In this episode, we discuss: Personality vs. Behaviour: Why what you do matters infinitely more than who you are according to your personality test results. The "Accidental Manager" Trap: Why founders and technical experts often struggle to transition into leadership and how 360-degree feedback can bridge the gap. Predictive Validity: The science behind why leadership behaviours can predict up to 60% of a team's motivation and fulfilment. Psychological Safety: How to use assessments to build trust and development rather than fear and judgement. Actionable Advice for Leaders: Two simple things every leader can do today to immediately improve team engagement. If you've ever felt like you're "not a natural leader" or if you're an HR professional frustrated with the lack of ROI from personality workshops, this episode is a masterclass in the science of what actually works.

Stealing Forbidden Dreams by Edward L Alban https://www.amazon.com/Stealing-Forbidden-Dreams-Edward-Alban/dp/1962931005 Maria Diaz, originally from Ecuador, teaches math in a Miami high school. She is intellectual, loves poetry and likes music-from classical to Andean, to tangos-and suffers from insomnia. Sleep intrigues her. She does the math and figures that over a sixty-year span we sleep the staggering sum of twenty years. Where does all that time go? Is it a waste? Or does it have a hidden redeeming value? Finding answers to these questions becomes her quest. She reads extensively about the brain’s activity during sleep, she keeps a log of the few brief dreams that she remembers and manages to intertwine her conscious hours with her subconscious hours into a helix-like braid of her life, which she presents in the form of a novel. Her sleeping mind opens its doors and reveals her sleeping world. She meets her inner self: her id, libido, ego, alter egos, muses, and oracles. They all come alive as colorful human characters, vying for control of her life and her destiny. Maria’s Libido is a sexy look-alike who thinks it’s high time for Maria to lose her virginity. Her sassy Literary Muse advocates career change from teaching and mathematics. Her oracles are alter egos personified as older gentlemen who guide her in matters of philosophy. Every night, Maria is at the center of this seemingly schizophrenic reality filled with laughter, tears, adulation, and scorn. It is a wonderful world that she comes to love, but, as with all humans, Maria can’t remember her dream world when she is awake. Day after day, Maria’s parallel world is wiped away upon awakening. The only exceptions are wisps of dreams and little snippets that are still fresh when she awakens. But the bulk of her sleeping hours is off limits. This is where her treasures, her “forbidden dreams” are held by oblivion. And she intends to get them, if she has to steal them. It took her ten years to do it. The result is this work. Maria comes of age in many ways, she matures philosophically, she becomes sure of her convictions, and she lives her life by her own precepts. She shares with us how the mind at night interphases with the conscious world. We do relive our daytime life by night, and our night hours in turn do influence the decisions we make in the real world. But it happens so subtly, it is almost imperceptible. This is what we learn from her experiences.
