Justin's notes from the original episode on Patreon:“On this week's episode of Write That Down!, Fumi and I talked about the Three Musketeers of NJPW: Keiji Muto, Masahiro Chono, and Shinya Hashimoto. Each musketeer had their own distinct style and personality in the ring, and outside of the ring, each would end up leading very different career paths.“We talked at length about all three NJPW superstars, though our discussion was centered on Chono and Hashimoto especially, as we covered Muto's career in great detail during our four-part series earlier this year.Fumi explained how Chono picked up his storytelling wrestling from none other than “Bulldog” Bob Brown (of all wrestlers) and recommends some of Chono's best bouts. We also spoke at length about Hashimoto's program with Judo silver medalist Naoya Ogawa and how, with hindsight, we can now view Hashimoto as the inadvertent “first sacrifice” of Japan's pro wrestling Dark Ages, plus lots more.” Join the Patreon for just $5.00 per month here: https://www.patreon.com/fightgamemedia Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/fightgamemedia Join our Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1958473677605950 Follow our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/fightgamemedia Subscribe to our YouTube Page: https://www.youtube.com/c/FightGameMedia Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fightgamemedia Learn more about your ad choices. After debuting after dozens of wrestlers left NJPW for Japan Pro Wrestling and the first incarnation of UWF, Chono, alongside fellow Three Musketeers Keiji Muto & Shinya Hashimoto, rose to the zenith of his popularity during his time as active in-ring performer during the mid-90s. Chono forged a distinct career path over the years, traveling up and down Eastern coast of North America and throughout Germany & Austria early on, where he really began to grow into the iconic figure fans are familiar with today. Kris & David are back this week with Keith Harris (@glasgowkjh) to discuss the week-plus that was July 12-19, 2005, which Keith requested as a $100 Patreon pick.We start off talking about WWE and the backlash from the Muhammad Hassan "terrorist" angle with The Undertaker that aired hours after the 7/7 attack in London and how that blew up in their faces, causing them to backtrack heavily. We also talk about SmackDown & Raw, which is always wild to look back at in this era, as well as Triple H gaining more office duties, Earl Hebner getting fired, Matt Hardy & Lita appearing on Byte This in an infamous moment, and much more.We then go to Japan where we start off with Shinya Hashimoto's funeral and then move on to Destiny, the massive NOAH Tokyo Dome show that Keith attended, which was the reason why he picked this week. We talk about all the matches and other happenings from the show, which featured the legendary Kenta Kobashi-Kensuke Sasaki match and the final Toshiaki Kawada-Mitsuharu Misawa singles match. We also talk about some of the other shows Keith went to, plus all of the major results and news for the week.Next up is Mexico & Puerto Rico, where we talk about a very hot period for CMLL, a startup promotion in Puerto Rico that fell apart before they ran a show, and a crazy Bruiser Brody Memorial Show for the WWC.Then we go back to the United States for some Summer of Punk in Ring of Honor — which Dave Meltzer was getting tired of, Charlie Haas returning to JAPW, some other big indie shows, and more.We then close with TNA, which was in a holding pattern of sorts until starting on Spike TV, so we talk about that plus a very interesting NO SURRENDER PPV and much more.A long, but very fun show, so listen now!!!!!!!!!!!Timestamps:0:00:00 WWE2:05:06 Eurasia: Shinya Hashimoto funeral, NOAH, AJPW, NJPW, DDT, Dragon Door, Dragon Gate, Hustle, Michinoku Pro, Osaka Pro, Bikkuri Pro, & FWA4:06:39 Classic Commercial Break4:11:25 Halftime4:23:31 Latin America: AAA, CMLL, IWRG, Monterrey, GladiatorCW, WWC, & IWAPR4:46:02 Other USA: Ballpark Brawl, ROH, JAPW, Steve Karel, IWAEC, Iron Ring, NWA Anarchy, IWAMS, & FCW (Los Angeles)5:17:12 TNA5:09:47 Patreon Preview: Someone is trying to play both sides of Rita Chatterton's allegations against Vince McMahon to different TV showsTo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. And as a special treat, we are joined again by Beau James (@kingofkingsport) in all of the American sections. Nick wanted us to talk about New Japan's first show at the Tokyo Dome, Battle Satellite, and we do just that, as we talk about the importance of the event — tracing the history of Antonio Inoki — as well as a full rundown of this major, historically important show that featured the debut of the Jushin Thunder Liger gimmick and Shinya Hashimoto getting drafted back from Memphis so he could become a star overnight. Among other international topics, we also talk about AJPW going to a more "traditional" pro wrestling style to counter NJPW & UWF going to a more a "worked shoot" style. We also discuss The State of the WWF after WrestleMania and the then-annual “off-season,” featuring Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage starting their massively successful post-WM house show run, the stiffness of Ronnie Garvin vs. Greg Valentine, Dusty Rhodes making big claims in Florida, Beau getting the skinny directly from Dr. Tom Prichard to set the record straight on the stories of him going to the NWA in 1989, the amazing Nick Gulas/Robert Fuller/Jeff Jarrett angle in Memphis, the equally amazing Eric Embry/Skandor Akbar angle in World Class, The State of the NWA six months after the Turner takeover, and a ton more. This is a fantastic show, so listen now!!!!!Timestamps:0:00:00 Int'l: NJPW, AJPW, Stampede, EMLL, UWA, Tijuana, & WWC1:08:20 WWF2:40:52 Classic Commercial Break2:43:20 Halftime3:05:44 Other USA: ProStar, GA wrestling commission bill, Peach State, FCW, CWF, CWA, WCCW, AWA, NCWA, & Portland5:12:45 NWA/WCW6:36:21 Patreon Preview: The WWF issues a press release bragging about WrestleMania III's record-breaking attendance…of 88,000?!?!?!?To support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. And with his untimely and sudden passing earlier this week, we wanted to pay tribute to a legendary performer that we never covered in the original run of Talking Taker since he surprisingly never had a PPV match with Taker. Join wrestling superfans Alex Doriot and Travis White on their encyclopedic exploration of The Undertaker's career as they do a Watch-Along commentary for two rare matches featuring Scott Hall and Mark Calaway. The first is from New Japan Pro Wrestling in 1990 with Hall teaming up with a young Taker, known at this time as Punisher Dice Morgan! They take on Masa Saito and Shinya Hashimoto for the tag team titles in a match unlike any we've covered on this show before. Then they fast forward a couple of years to Rampage 92, a classic Coliseum Video you can find on Peacock, and one of the only singles matches in history between Razor Ramon and The Phenom! All matches can of course be found on either Peacock or WWE Network, depending on where you live/are pretending to live.1991: The British Bulldog, The Dragon & The Texas Tornado vs. Power And Glory (Hercules & Paul Roma) & The Warlord1999: D-Lo Brown vs. Jeff Jarrett2000: Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho2005: The Undertaker vs. Randy Orton2008: CM Punk vs. John Bradshaw Layfield2013: CM Punk vs. Brock LesnarTopics that come up along the way include: who does and doesn't have nostalgia for early 90s WWF, The Dragon is maybe every Vince-ism combined, who cares about two titles when you have two large fake breasts to talk about, a very stereotypical Vince Russo finish, doing a 2 out of 3 falls match for literally no reason, THIS FEUD MUST CONTINUE (except it oddly didn't really!), a Taker vs. Orton match that nobody seems to remember (maybe for good reason), Bob Orton's fake wig makes Undertaker very mad, we swear we didn't fix the results to give us two CM Punk matches while his name is in the news lately (honest!), Punk's flaccid 2008 title run, Punk and Brock tear the house down, and finally: forgetting how much Paul Heyman was involved.Follow Wrestling Omakase on Twitter to submit questions for future episodes and get alerts every time new episodes go up (both free feed & Patreon)- @wrestleomakase!Wrestling Omakase has dedicated channels on TWO Discords! Always in the conversation for greatest commentator of all time, the incomparable Kevin Kelly has been part of the wrestling business for 30 years, most famously for his work as an interviewer during WWE's Attitude Era, interacting with mega-stars such as The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. For a number of years he was the lead commentator for Ring of Honor, before finding himself a second home in Japan as the English voice for New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he today provides sublime commentary to English speaking fans worldwide. In this interview, Kevin gave us a peak behind the commentary curtain, detailing his process from preparing his notes, to producing his fellow commentators and being a tremendous play-by-play commentator. He spoke about the numerous people who have joined him at the desk over the years, including wrestlers such as Juice Robinson, and even revealed that NJPW wanted to bring in Bret Hart to do commentary! Kevin regaled how Shinya Hashimoto ribbed Satoshi Kojima by filling his hotel room with cicadas, and how just a few years ago a number of the roster filled Kojima's room with oranges, poor Kojima! This, and so much more, make this rare interview unmissable! Read our features on our website WrestleInn.com. Follow us on Twitter @WrestleInn.
