My cowardice to speak with you was the main reason I haven't been on. I've been a listener since the beginning of 2019.From the beginning, I have behaved very poorly, immaturely, and irresponsibly with my husband. I have been needy and insecure. There are many things which I regret doing, some that I regretted before I even did them. Specifically, I badgered and cajoled my husband about being an "open" couple until he relented. Then, I went on dates with men I didn't like, couldn't trust, and who were wholly repugnant. Intellectually, I knew these things were wrong, but somehow managed to justify it to myself. And he'd said yes! Under duress of course.I then "tricked" my husband into having our son, and I believe he secretly despises me for this. I ignored his preferences and only heard what I wanted to hear. As a backstory, when we got together almost 10 years ago, we were both on the same page about kids; we both never wanted them. Basically, I changed my mind and he didn't. I was ready to end our relationship unless he said he would have a child with me. Which, he did, but with some resentment about my "blackmail". I am so happy as a mother. It's so much better than anything I could have dreamed of. Yet I feel so much shame and guilt in relation to my husband. Like our son is just my own guilty pleasure at his expense. Indeed, it is only because of my husband's hard work that I'm able to stay home with our son, and we even plan on homeschooling. Everything I've done was in self interest without pausing to consider the needs of my husband. I only needed that guarantee of commitment and resources, and I didn't care how he felt about it or what he wanted. I want to live up to philosophical ideals and virtues, but I have failed so miserably at my life, my marriage, and my son's life, that I don't know if true ideals are attainable anymore.I wonder if my husband can ever be happy with me, after everything that I have done to undermine him... I have brought up these things and apologized, and he says it's all water under the bridge. We've talked about how he's glad that we did have a son. Looking back, he said that he would have regretted not having a child. But to me, these are after the fact condolences, yet again serving my needs to be reassured. I know that strong feelings still swirl around these issues. I fear that I've eroded and damaged his trust in me to a point that it's unrecoverable. All I have done throughout our relationship is manipulate, blackmail, or "do whatever works" to get what I want.I don't know what to do to make it up to him. You are better at prevention than cure. I didn't know about your show back then, and in my defense, search engines do not show your resources. I am so sorry to bring this dumpster fire of a mess to you now.

10 December 2020 EMERGENCY UNSCHEDULED Call-InDEAR STEF:I feel like a lifeless husk. My depression is hitting levels that I would consider peak. The constant thought of abandoning everything or even killing my self is taking the front of my thoughts like it has for years and years before but this time I have a 1 year old son. No progress in my life has ever slowed this feeling down, rather provided temporary relief. I make good money, I have been with my wife for 10 years, I can afford to keep her home with my one year old son, and I am valued at work. All signs point to a wonderful life, but inside I burn alive in rage, self hatred and self doubt. I tried therapy this year with two different people and I found them useless, to the point of evoking rage in me.I am afraid the only thing holding me together most of the time is my work and right now its bad.Now just to be clear, I am an alcoholic:When work is bad, I drink, When my wife is gone, I drink, when I take care of my son all day and don't have the boobs he wants, I drink. When I say I drink I mean I drink 1 liter of wine or 100oz of light beer or 3/4 a 5th of vodka or a combination of all of it. I have the bloodline of high functioning alcoholics and it's a terrible curse. I can't count the amount of hung over days at work or the drunk fights with my wife. I can't count the missing memories because it's my whole adult life at this point. 6 December 2020 Call-InDEAR STEF:I’m 41, happily married with two kids, considering homeschooling. I would like to have a conversation with Stefan about philosophy and share some of my philosophical ideas with him for his evaluation. I’m hoping Stefan can help me see flaws in my reasoning and help me make my arguments more robust or give me cause to abandon them. I imagine the conversation will involve a subset of the following, the relationship of the objective and the subjective, the nature of God, the existence of free will, if we live in a Simulation, the nature of evil, the origins of communism and feminism, the relationship between personal responsibility and politics.I believe all that stuff is interconnected, so I have been imagining the different paths the conversation could go. Dear Stef:I recently avoided getting into a relationship with someone who definitely has red flags and maybe has some virtues.I met this woman when she was seeing a mutual friend. She and I became friends.  At my age there's always some level of sizing women up for dating, I didn't seriously consider it until, after I made a flirty joke, she sent me nudes I didn't ask for in March (red flag #3 at least).Over the months I went over the idea, felt all sorts of emotions, had all sorts of thoughts. We talked/hung out a lot and went on a couple of vacations with other friends. There were a couple of scenarios where sex was on the table and I decided against it.About a month ago, after reading some RTR, I decided to make a move by being open and honest with her about my thoughts and feelings: I don't want to just fuck her (and become another one of the guys masticated by her sexual meat grinder). I'm interested in dating, but I for sure see red flags, maybe some virtues, so the only way that would work is if we're both committed to growing together like the Painters in RTR.She told me she'd think about it. I talked with friends, some said go for it, one who knows her said she's not relationship material, so when she suggested another vacation, I said we'd have to be clear on what our relationship was first.She said she didn't want to date me, I said that was fine, but when we hung out a couple days later and she was super flirty/tried to have sex again and I got pissed. Dear Stef:Lately, I have been feeling like I'm suffocating and not being true to myself. I work with a bunch of far-left maniacs and I never know how to properly express my beliefs to them when they are spewing their daily nonsense. The majority of my family is the same way, but we don't really talk much anymore anyways because I live 14 hours away from them and my hometown. Back in October, I debated Vaush, and as he would probably put it: I was "absolutely DESTROYED" by that commie. I feel like the main reason for this was simply nervousness to be talking to him on his platform. However, something that I noticed reflecting on our debate was the similarities between that conversation and the reason why I often don't engage in conversations with the leftists at work and in my family. I don't know how to have a discussion when so many people don't see eye to eye with me on the facts. Vaush and everyone else in my person life who I mentioned before are all so happy and willing to blindy follow the mainstream media narrative and accept it as the one & only holy grail of eternal truth. 22 November 2020 Call-InDear Stef:I am more than ever in need to have a conversation with you, because I can't continue participating in society with my conscience intact. I am in a serious bind of what to do and have pondered it in great detail since I last wrote to you. I dealt with my family issues and other important stuff which I wanted to talk about with you back then. One thing remains and it is this: I have literally no one to talk to who is even close to be able to brainstorm with me my situation of the predicament facing me.I can't live with myself living in a society that forces me to participate in acts against my moral conscience. Small examples are the Finnish state taking part of my spent energies' results (through taxation) and using it to murder unborn children. Or using it to fund all other kinds of activities like selling old military equipment to questionable Middle Eastern countries who fund terrorism, funding the welfare state that clearly does a very poor job of vetting who is in actual need of these funds, funding the growing government apparatus that clearly infringes more and more with censorship and authoritarian measures. The list is huge and I can't do this anymore.The fundamental question for me has been: can I do something that is efficient enough to contribute to change in this society and see it actually changing so I could be a WILLING participant.The more I've pondered upon this... the more I've come to the conclusion: no. There are so many reasons for my conclusion and I am overwhelmed and basically I wanna get out. I figured the only way I can do that is to live so they can't come for my taxes. I am too furious and appalled to be a forced participant in this system that I would rather choose to live in nature where the state can't force me to participate. I have been exploring these and different options for awhile and I am more and more drawn to stand my ground and say enough is enough. I will not submit myself to participate with evil because I can't live with myself anymore like that for long.... I will go insane and lose all will to be.Contacting you is my last ditch effort to make a plea to for you to have a conversation with me, so you could maybe give me good reasoning why I should stay, for example, for the benefit to contribute to change. This is a big topic and I need help. I am open right now and every moment forward to have that conversation with you above all else. Nothing else matters more now.Update: I want to add that I have a host of different "normal" life problems; like addictions, being lazy, immaturity and lack of self discipline and the list goes on. I am afraid that me being such a life loser might make a call with me not worth your time. I feel and rationalize that I have enough knowledge and resources and thus need to take responsibility alone to deal with my wide variety of personal issues. I have been following you for a couple of years and I’ve learned a lot, especially from your call-in shows, which always help me realize something about myself. I have thought about writing to you many times but have always been apprehensive about sharing so much online. However, I would love the opportunity to talk to you as I am going through a hard time. I’ve been very blessed in my life. I am a 23-year-old woman, I am healthy, I’m going to college in the US, and I have close friends and family who support me. I watched your interview with Jesse Lee Peterson about forgiveness recently and it got me thinking about some things. I was raised with the Christian message of forgiveness that, “by not forgiving and holding onto resentment, it’s like you are drinking a poison in the hopes of killing someone else”. I would love to know your thoughts on this. I also have 3 specific things related to forgiveness and my journey to a more integrated self.1. What are your thoughts on letting go of resentment towards the past that likely won’t change or for those who won’t truly repent? How about self-repentance and forgiveness of your Self? Did I have agency at some point as an adult for enabling my mother and/or ex-wives? Is ignorance an excuse and was I truly ignorant?2. What is the difference between using your past as a tool for sympathy or an excuse to not change and learning/growing from your past? How do I know when I am discussing my past with others that I am not trying to play the victim like my mother? How will I know when it’s time to put the past in the past?3. What are some ways to stay grounded in the present instead of dwelling in the past or worrying about the future? How long and what phases did you go through in therapy? I have listened to two of your podcasts that have touched on this subject and am hoping there are more since I believe you share similar thoughts as me on this subject and also hope to hear what gives you comfort.Since I was a child - maybe around 8 years old - I started to have what I would call a mild panic attack at the thought of death being an eternal nothing. As a child, when thinking in the night, these thoughts would creep in. I would go wake my mum who would sit at the end of my bed until I could fall back asleep. She is slightly religious but doesn't go to church or anything, she would never really talk about heaven I think, she would comfort me by saying it won't happen or won't for a long time at least and just being there with me or telling me a story to distract me until I fell asleep. She did this for me even when I was scared in my teens, always without complaint.My fear has never been it will happen soon, just that it will happen. I did see a counselor at maybe age 12 and again a few years later for it, but that was just me talking about the possibilities of what it will be and me not liking any of those, and still believing that it will be eternal nothing, pretty useless unfortunately.Fast forward to now, I am 42 and have a 7 year old girl and 5 year old boy. Their questions and statements are starting now and I don't want them to have the same fear that I did if I can help it. Growing up, I have never (even to this day) had anyone close to me die; neither have my children. My fear has never been about others dying, just myself, and what it is going to be. When my kids talk about it I have taken to saying that "it's nature" (I have found in the last year or so that when I tell myself that, I find it slightly, slightly comforting). Also I have also added to the nature statement once or twice that "it's a magical journey," that was the best I could think of to say to elaborate on the subject. I don't want to go into detail of what I believe it to be. My daughter doesn't seem to have a fear, she happily talks about when she is asleep she feels dead, I assume the feeling of nothing is what she means. My son on the other hand has said two(?) times now that he doesn't want to die or for me to die, he doesn't seem distressed (maybe a little sad). I am unsure how to handle these situations and how to offer comfort or ease, especially as they get older and more questions arise.I have found in the last few years that listening to something with my headphones as I fall asleep to help my mind not wander, avoidance seems to be my best strategy. Freedomain Call In 08 Nov 2020My wife and I are dedicated to raising our children according to the principles of peaceful parenting, which was not very difficult when our little lad was the only child, but now as our baby girl has joined the family, he has now become increasingly jealous and abusive towards her. At 19 months old he is only semi-verbal (i.e. identifying objects and simple properties [such as hot, cold and 'ouchie'], but not emotions).Our 6 month old 'sissy' is often hit on the head, had her toys and bottle taken from her, even when we have provided an equivalent or better for him. We have taught him to give her a kiss on the forehead when she cries to help encourage empathy, but lately he has even bitten her on the forehead, nose and face while doing so. We are at our wit's end trying to figure out what he needs so that he does not feel this jealousy. We have followed the advice of various sources such as "Peaceful parent, happy kid" and tried working with the advice of others in the community, but there seems to be something fundamental that we have not identified at the root of it. Freedomain Call In 06 Nov 2020Dear Stefan:I am a 25 year old man who has had a rather traumatic past due to a heart condition that I was born with, multiple open heart surgeries as a child managed to produce a permanent solution and I am physically healthy and I have gone to therapy and done lots of reflection to process some of the mental trauma. However, last year I began dating a co-worker, a woman that is now 20 years old, I am a Christian and want to one day get married and raise a family. Her parents are still together and I haven't run into any serious deal-breakers but I am afraid of getting into a long-term relationship that will not work out. My girlfriend, while her grandparents are Christians and she isn't hostile to religion, is unfortunately not a Christian. She has also repeatedly talked about how "Sometimes relationships don't work out in the long run". I keep in mind that I am her very first relationship and she has said before that she is open to marriage and family but I can't help but feel that she's conflicted about it.I know prevention is much better than cure and I'd like to explore this if possible. 30 October 2020 Call-InHello Stefan and fellow listeners. I’m a 22 year-old guy who failed in almost every aspect a human being could. Never had any meaningful contact with the opposite sex, never had a real job, and I’m also currently overweight (280 pounds for a 6 foot guy). My only good point is that I don’t use any sort of drug (not even alcohol).I have a very complicated relationship with sacrifice. I had a very strict childhood, with not many friends allowed in home, and not many entertainment sources. According to my parents, that was a way to “focus on my education”.For a long time I was the best student in class, and I had to attend two high schools simultaneously. I got into college, and after almost four years of lies and useless classes, I dropped out. My parents don’t know I quit college. I don’t want them to know it either. Everytime they tried to “help me”, all I got was a clearer vision of hell.I am also what you could call a “ghost employee” of the local city hall. My father got me this position using a friend of his. I would receive the pension promised in forty years (my ticket for the ponzi scheme), and right now I get the equivalent to $20 every month for keeping my mouth shut. Recently I managed to accumulate enough savings to live for three months or so without depending on my parents. But I’m afraid. I feel like I’m sitting on a box of bombs. My parents could find out I dropped out of college. They could throw me out of the house, and I could fail to find a way to support myself in those three months. Not everything is bad though. I’ve been out of college for almost a year, and this year I have learned more than in my four years of college combined. Sometimes I still face failure—the most recent one being rejected for some jobs. Those failures, even the small ones, really knock me out. I fear I could be wasting my time. A certain bald podcaster gave me something to dream about. I don’t want to feel trapped in time, like my time in college, ever again.
