Last Sunday's Clash at the Coliseum was both a critical and ratings success for NASCAR and FOX Sports. The unique spectacle that placed an auto racing track onto the grounds of the Los Angeles Coliseum was a feast for the eyes on broadcast television. To reflect on the experience of what it was like to call the shots from the front bench, FOX Sports lead director Artie Kempner joins us on The SVG Podcast. Artie discusses the use of aerial cameras like SkyCam and drones, what opportunities and challenges were brought about by hosting a race in such a small venue, what it was like directing an Ice Cube concert, and what he learned from this unique live production experience. In the second episode of Another Time, MacLeod! (02:30-04:56), Robs Wallis and Daniel delve into the opening scene of Highlander, featuring a fantastic, potentially lethal(?!) Skycam shot, an introduction to our brooding, myopic hero, and lots of wonderful extras. NOTE: In all our excitement, we forgot to mention that the scene was shot at Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey, rather than the actual Madison Square Garden.

Ian Nelson is no stranger to introducing the legal industry to as-needed training on legal topics. He was one of the first US employees of Practical Law Company (PLC). After PLC was acquired by Thomson Reuters, Ian stayed on for a while as PLC transitioned into the Thomson Reuters portfolio of legal resources, but his days of finding better ways of presenting and teaching legal concepts were not behind him. Recently, he and his co-founder Chris Wedgeworth (anther PLC alum) created Hotshot. Hotshot is an online Professional Development resource which uses short videos, quizzes, and more to train lawyers, and even law students, across a growing list of legal, business, and technology skills. Essentially, they've brought digital learning to the legal industry. Ian joins us to talk about Hotshot's short video training concepts work with adult learners ranging from attorneys, to law firm staffers, and even helping law students quickly understand complex legal topics. Congratulations to the newly elected board members for the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL)! In other AALL news, time is running out for members to sign up for the Leadership Academy to be held in Chicago next March. Registration ends on November 11th. Information Inspirations We have some new, and new to you podcasts to suggest this week. First up is the new Law360 Explores: Legalization which investigates all of the legal hurdles of marijuana between the states which legalized it, and the federal government which still sees it as illegal drug dealing. Hustle and Flow Chart is one of Marlene's favorite digital marketing podcasts which has tips and tricks for your daily work routine. Junior Economist is a brand new podcast that gives the Millennial perspective on pop culture and current affairs, but through an economic lens. Beyond the podcast inspirations... if you're looking for a speaker on generational diversity within law firms (there's a 60+ year span between your youngest associates and your oldest senior partners), Greg suggests looking at Chris De Santis. The methods of achieving work goals differ between Boomers, Xers, and Millennials. The more we understand how each generation works, the better we work together. And finally, Greg is still slightly depressed about the Houston Astros losing in the World Series to the Washington Nationals, but Marlene finds the silver lining by geeking out over sports and graphical data representation. Whether it is the amazing SkyCam view of Cordarrelle Patterson's kickoff return, or strike zone view in baseball, there's a lot of opportunity to add graphics and data to sports, especially baseball. Josh, Jude, and Brad sit down to preview the upcoming game between the #10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and #18 Virginia Cavaliers. What actually happens is maybe not exactly that. Among the many things we talked about that had nothing (or very little) to do with the game: *More Georgia talk. *David Pollock. *Fake injury myths and the bullshit artists that spin them. *Cable TV delay. *Brady Quinn in the booth but actually in a studio. *The Boston College game. *Michigan analysis. *Jim Harbaugh's crutch. *SkyCam. *NBC as a puppet of Jack Swarbrick. *Probably more? I mean of course we talked about the upcoming game, like: *The offensive line. *Running the football. *What Chris Finke and Michael Young mean this week. *Probably not a word about Notre Dame's defense. *Virginia's linebackers. *Predictions. *And we went an hour without bringing up something that is probably important (and then Jude got mad). It was a different show - which is really saying something. Maybe don't rate and review this show. GO IRISH! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Tracking shots have traditionally been the preserve of the professional filmmaker or broadcaster, first with cameras on dollys and tracks, then with Steadicam and now there are cable or wire systems (SkyCam) that can move in three dimensions to get some really amazing shots. While these are all still expensive, the amateur filmaker can achieve a … Continue reading Beautiful Tracking Shots with Wiral at CES 2018 → The post Beautiful Tracking Shots with Wiral at CES 2018 appeared first on Geek News Central.
On the verge of winning their first national championship in 37 years, the Georgia Bulldogs instead lost the title game on Monday night in the most excruciating way imaginable, and the Alabama evil empire reigns over college football again. The guys relive the game's stunning closing moments and the unconventional ways they saw them unfold—Tom watched the full game on the announcer-free SkyCam feed that was part of ESPN's megacast, while Travis went through the condensed version on Tuesday after following along on Twitter during the live game. Plus: With UCF's perfect season and teams just missing out on the playoff posting big bowl wins—not to mention Alabama's shaky regular season résumé—has the door been pried open for an eight-team field? Expansion is probably inevitable, but the guys debate whether it should be. Then the guys preview Week 11, including why we need to admit that Rams vs. Vikings is the best matchup of the season so far (13:15), how the Cowboys will lose badly to the Eagles on Sunday night (20:00), and why it’s time for Dallas to fire Jason Garrett (39:30). Then, Danny Kelly joins the show to tell you which players from this week’s less interesting matchups could lead your fantasy team to victory (48:30), and the guys predict next week’s biggest headlines (62:45).

The first midweek action of the year meant less sleep but more MLS, and that’s just fine. Things aren’t “fine” for last year’s powers, however. The table is upside down, at least compared to 2015, and Andrew, Matt, and David break down the surprising Wednesdaynight results then look ahead to the weekend. With Colorado riding high, how will the upcoming addition of Jermaine Jones affect their playoff chances? Will he be more impactful than Didier Drogba, who could come back this weekend for Montreal? The guys also talk SkyCam in KC, the wonderful life of Chris Wondolowski and the imminent departure time of the Tommy Thompson hype train. In the second segment, Sporting KC's midfield duo of Roger Espinoza and Jordi Quintilla stop by the studio on the heels of a Justin Bieber concert. They discuss their respective paths to KC, the players and teams they hate playing against and best tactics for pushing through a postgame jersey trade. It’s time to go off topic in the mailbag. First, the guys ponder which MLS player should host a podcast, help a lonely MLS fan pick the best match to attend and make some bold Copa America Centenario predictions.
