After several digital Compilations, Lehmann Musik now kicks off their Vinyl Series with a powerful EP from David Löhlein that sets out its techno intentions from the off. EINS is the first release after his VIA TAYA Album and shows again his dance floor focussed side. Barracuda is straight up techno with turbocharged bass and high speed drums. The vocals are edgy and bring the soul, while trance-like synths lock you in. Astro is another high intensity roller with slippery synths and caustic textures next to dark male spoken word vocals. Skyra is a more silky and funked up techno number that'll get you on your toes with its cosmic synth lines and hammering drums. It's a really headsy cut with great designs. Last of all is Dominica, another classy and uplifting techno track with pinging drums, steamy female vocals and an alluring techno groove. This is fresh as you like techno from what is sure to be a vital new label.

V., Greve, D., Fischl, B., Bjornerud, A., Walhovd, K. B., Fjell, A. M. Abstract: An accurate and reliable whole-brain segmentation is a key aspect of longitudinal neuroimaging studies. The ability to measure structural changes reliably is fundamental to detect confidently biological effects, especially when these affects are small. In this work, we undertake a thorough comparative analysis of reliability, bias, sensitivity to detect longitudinal change and diagnostic sensitivity to Alzheimer's disease of two subcortical segmentation methods, Automatic Segmentation (ASEG) and Sequence Adaptive Multimodal Segmentation (SAMSEG). These are provided by the recently released version 7.1 of the open-source neuroimaging package FreeSurfer, with ASEG being the default segmentation method. First, we use a large sample of participants (n = 1629) distributed across the lifespan (age range = 4-93 years) to assess the within-session test-retest reliability in eight bilateral subcortical structures: amygdala, caudate, hippocampus, lateral ventricles, nucleus accumbens, pallidum, putamen and thalamus. We performed the analyses separately for a sub-sample scanned on a 1.5T Siemens Avanto (n = 774) and a sub-sample scanned on a 3T Siemens Skyra (n = 855). The absolute symmetrized percent differences across the lifespan indicated relatively constant reliability trajectories across age except for the younger children in the Avanto dataset for ASEG. Although both methods showed high reliability (ICC > 0.95), SAMSEG yielded significantly lower volumetric differences between repeated measures for all subcortical segmentations (p < 0.05) and higher spatial overlap in all structures except putamen, which had significantly higher spatial overlap for ASEG. Second, we tested how well each method was able to detect neuroanatomic volumetric change using longitudinal follow up scans (n = 491 for Avanto and n = 245 for Skyra; interscan interval = 1-10 years). Both methods showed excellent ability to detect longitudinal change, but yielded age-trajectories with notable differences for most structures, including the hippocampus and the amygdala. For instance, ASEG hippocampal volumes showed a steady age-decline from subjects in their twenties, while SAMSEG hippocampal volumes were stable until their sixties. Finally, we tested sensitivity of each method to clinically relevant change. We compared annual rate of hippocampal atrophy in a group of cognitively normal older adults (n = 20), patients with mild cognitive impairment (n = 20) and patients with Alzheimer's disease (n = 20). SAMSEG was more sensitive to detect differences in atrophy between the groups, demonstrating ability to detect clinically relevant longitudinal changes. Both ASEG and SAMSEG were reliable and led to detection of within-person longitudinal change. Abstract: Longitudinal imaging studies are crucial for advancing the understanding of brain development over the lifespan. Thus, more and more studies acquire imaging data at multiple time points or with long follow-up intervals. In these studies changes to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners often become inevitable which may decrease the reliability of the MRI assessments and introduce biases. We therefore investigated the difference between MRI scanners with subsequent versions (3 Tesla Siemens Verio vs. Skyra fit) on the cortical and subcortical measures of grey matter in 116 healthy, young adults using the well-established longitudinal FreeSurfer stream for T1-weighted brain images. We found excellent between-scanner reliability for cortical and subcortical measures of grey matter structure (intra-class correlation coefficient > 0.8). Yet, paired t-tests revealed statistically significant differences in at least 75% of the regions, with percent differences up to 5%, depending on the outcome measure. Offline correction for gradient distortions only slightly reduced these biases. Further, T1-imaging based quality measures systematically differed between scanners. We conclude that scanner upgrades during a longitudinal study introduce bias in measures of cortical and subcortical grey matter structure. Therefore, before upgrading a MRI scanner during an ongoing study, researchers should prepare to implement an appropriate correction method for these effects. Copy rights belong to original authors. As 2017 comes to an end host, Skyra Rideaux, reflects on what transpired this year - what she accomplished and what she wished she would have accomplished. She realized that her journey this year was one she never expected to take. She decided to share some of the things that she learned with you. In order to do that, she asked two of her closest friends to come on the show and interview her. This episode is a reflection of 2017 and a discussion about what 2018 holds.

This episode is a little different. Instead of bringing in a guest Skyra shares a recent experience that had a huge impact in her life. In September of this year, Skyra had the opportunity to give a TEDx talk. Her topic? A talk about what it’s like to be a black woman in a predominately white space. She chose this topic to give people a better understanding of what that experience is like. As Skyra worked on her piece, she started to have doubts. She was really scared that the story and the message she wanted to share wasn’t important enough to put herself out there. In fact, she wasn't just scared, she was terrified. She almost quit...twice. But she kept working. Skyra reminded herself that there are other people who are having similar experiences and it’s important for them to know they are not alone. She also knew that it’s important for those who are not African American women in high level positions to understand what it's like to walk in that space when there are no other people who look like you or who have experienced the world as you have. So this episode is Skyra's TEDxVermilion talk entitled "The Courage to be Unapologetically Black." After you listen, please share your thoughts and comments. Skyra Rideaux talks with Ruben Henderson, Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Leadership at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. For years Ruben has made it a priority in his life to volunteer with community organizations that he believes in. Because of his passion for giving and his dedication to his community Skyra is not surprised at how his career has unfolded. Ruben spends his days working with college students, helping them explore their individual skills and talents and allowing them to find their own voice as a leader. And he doesn’t just work to get them engaged in University life, he understands that sometimes we all need a little push to find out what we are made of.
