EPYSODE 31: "BullAngus". Guest: BullAngus bandleader Larry LaFalce In this epysode, we take a deep dive into BullAngus' 1971 self-titled album, a raw and heavy classic rock gem that has long been overlooked. Featuring exclusive commentary by band leader Larry Lafalce, we explore the creation of the album, the band's unique sound, and the impact it had on the rock scene of the early '70s. Plus, hear why Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore once called LaFalce "a mother***er"(!!) and get firsthand insights into the tensions and triumphs that defined this iconic era of rock history. Thelma Schoonmaker has, for over five decades, been Martin Scorsese's cutting room collaborator. Having edited his first feature film in 1967, she has worked on every Scorsese movie since Raging Bull, including Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed, Wolf Of Wall Street, right up to his most recent features The Irishman and Killers Of The Flower Moon. As the widow of the legendary British filmmaker Michael Powell, she has also played a key role in the restoration of classic Powell and Pressburger films including The Red Shoes, Black Narcissus and A Matter Of Life And Death. Thelma Schoonmaker has won three Academy Awards, more than any other film editor. Thelma tells John Wilson how enrolling on a six week film making course as a young graduate in New York led to her meeting and helping Martin Scorsese edit a short film he was making. He then asked her to edit his 1967 feature film debut, Who's That Knocking at My Door and their partnership began in earnest. She recalls how she and Scorsese were part of the editing team on Michael Wadleigh's music festival documentary, Woodstock for which she received her first an Oscar nomination for Best Film Editing - the first documentary ever to be nominated in that category. Thelma reveals the process of working with Scorsese in the cutting room and how, through him, she met her late husband Michael Powell, whose films with Emeric Pressburger, both she and Scorsese had so admired from childhood.Producer: Edwina PitmanArchive and music used: The Red Shoes, Powell & Pressburger, 1948 Who's That Knocking at My Door, Martin Scorsese, 1967 I Can't Explain, The Who, Live at Woodstock, 1969 See Me. __________ Über diese Songs vom Album "Tommy" wird im Podcast gesprochen (04:22) – "Overture"(10:18) – "1921"(15:29) – "Eyesight for the Blind"(15:55) – "Cousin Kevin"(16:11) – "The Acid Queen"(16:26) – "Fiddle About"(21:20) – "Christmas"(28:53) – "Pinball Wizard"(31:55) – "I'm Free"(36:46) – "Tommy's Holiday Camp"(39:23) – "We're Not Gonna Take It / See Me, Feel Me"__________ Über diese Songs wird außerdem im Podcast gesprochen (27:47) – "Night In The City " von Electric Light Orchestra (39:23) – "Ziggy Stardust" von David Bowie__________ Shownotes The Who und "Pinball Wizard" im Beat-Club: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FRsyDNvtWADie deutsche Band „German Bonds“ Live im Beat-Club_ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=288cvHTOn_kDokumentation "The Who – Die explosive Geschichte einer Band" bei Arte: https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/101888-000-A/the-who-die-explosive-geschichte-einer-band/ SWR1 Meilensteine Folge zu "Abbey Road": https://www.swr.de/swr1/rp/meilensteine/swr1-meilensteine-the-beatles-abbey-road-100.html__________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? This exhibit is called The Vietnam War: The Music. Our mission here at the Music Museum is to support all Vietnam Veterans and those who serve the United States, then and now. We thank you for your service.Early-on, in Vietnam, soldiers turned to music as a lifeline to the home front they promised to defend. Stateside music was a big part of a soldier's down time that centered around the hooches and outposts of Vietnam. The music that was popular during the Vietnam War was, and is still, therapy. There are songs you can remember, and then there are songs you REALLY remember. Many of these songs will have a special meaning for you. A place, a brother, a time gone by. Our shows are broadcast around the world. They say thank you & “welcome home” to all Vietnam Vets. There is no opinion offered on the War. It's all about the music. For your service and your sacrifice, this is The Vietnam War: The Music. This episode is called “Fun, Travel, Adventure” ******Join the conversation on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008232395712 ***** or by email at dannymemorylane@gmail.com***** You'll hear:1) The Letter by The Box Tops2) Welcome Home by Country Joe McDonald3) It Came Out of the Sky by Creedence Clearwater Revival4) Workin' For The Man by Roy Orbison5) Letter From Vietnam by Staff Sgt. Believe it or not, many considered The Who to be a band in decline just before the release of their iconic rock opera Tommy. Their recent releases hadn't been as popular as expected. They had a popular stage show, but between Pete Townshend destroying his guitars and/or Keith Moon destroying his drums, the shows were expensive! The double album Tommy would change the trajectory of the group and make them superstars of the rock genre.Pete Townshend was looking for something different when he created this rock opera. He was dissatisfied with the style of rock advanced by The Beatles and The Beach Boys, which was highly produced but not well suiting for live tours. He had experimented with smaller suites on earlier albums, but Tommy was on a completely different level - a double album telling a cohesive story. Tommy tells the story of a boy left deaf, dumb, and blind after his father, Captain Walker, kills his mother's lover. After many unsuccessful attempts to cure him, he is left neglected and molested by members of his family. Once he grows older, he finds himself unusually gifted with playing pinball. A new doctor correctly identifies Tommy's issues as psychosomatic, and he is eventually cured. He then briefly becomes a leader of a religious movement, using enforced sensory depravation and pinball machines to enlighten his adherents. His strange practices are soon rejected by his followers. The album would come out in May of 1969, but its first performance was in April, which is why we are featuring it here. Pinball WizardThe first single from the album is one of the ban's most famous songs. It tells of the skills of Tommy Walker from the perspective of a pinball champion "a Bally table king" who declares "that deaf, dumb, and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball!" Elton John would perform this song in the 1975 film adaptation of the rock opera. The Acid QueenPete Townshend is on lead vocals for this song. It chronicles Tommy's experience with a gypsy healer who uses LSD to treat his ailments. On the album the song leads into the instrumental "Underture," which represents Tommy's hallucination. Tina Turner plays the Acid Queen in the 1975 film and sings this song.I'm FreeThis song features Roger Daltry on lead vocals, and tells of Tommy's release from blindness and deafness. It also tells of Tommy's rise to spiritual leader as his popularity skyrockets after his cure. Townshend was partly inspired by the Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man" when he wrote this one. We're Not Gonna Take ItThe followers ultimately reject Tommy in this final track of the album. It is actually a suite, with movements including "We're Not Gonna Take It," and reprises of "See Me, Feel Me," and "Listening to You." Townshend had originally intended this song to be a critique of politics before it was incorporated into the rock opera. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:“The Brother's Theme” (from the television series “The Smothers Brothers”)The Smothers Brothers comedy show would go off the air in April 1969 after clashes with the CBS network censors over their portraying of the Vietnam War. STAFF PICKS:The Boxer by Simon & GarfunkelBruce's staff pick is the most highly produced of the Simon and Garfunkel songs, taking over 100 hours to record, and recorded at multiple locations. The lyrics are about a person struggling with life and loneliness in New York City. The "lie-la-lie" in the chorus was intended to be a placeholder, but became part of the song.Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' by Crazy ElephantRob picked this one out mistakenly thinking it was "Gimme Summa Lovin'," but this one-hit wonder has a good groove. It is considered psychedelic rock, or garage rock. Super K Productions put this band together, and several covers were done, including one by Dusty Springfield.Traces by Classics IVBrian's staff pick features a laid back tune as his staff pick. The single came out in January and peaked in April at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is about lost love, and dealing with it as the years go on. The Classics IV also performed the songs "Stormy" and "Spooky," the latter of which would be covered by the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Grazing in the Grass by The Friends of DistinctionHarry Elson wrote the lyrics to what had been a #1 instrumental recorded by Hugh Masekela. Wayne's staff pick features The Friends of Distinction, discovered by NFL great Jim Brown. The original members were Floyd Butler, Harry Elston, Jessica Cleaves, and Barbara Jean Love. They had 3 top 40 hits, and this highest charting one was inspired by seeing cattle in pastures from the tour bus.INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Underture by The WhoThis instrumental number from the Tommy double album lets us do a little double dipping on the album feature as we close out the podcast with some observations on Keith Moon.

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. (John 20:24-29) 35 Watch here, Oral Roberts, a bosom friend of mine, used this Scripture after, I believe he got it from Jeremiah. Jeremiah said, “God is a good God.” And my friend, Oral Roberts, has used that many times, that expression, and that's true. God is a good God. He… Certainly, He is. I want to ask you something. God being a good God, did you notice at the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, Peter was at the grave and some women, and Peter recognized the Lord had raised from the dead. He come right back to the disciples, and he said, “The Lord is risen.” And the rest of them began to praise the Lord, 'cause they knowed He was supposed to raise from the dead. So, don't you remember what he said to us? They began to rejoice, because the Lord had risen. 36 In this group there was two missing, and one of them was called Cleopas and his buddy. And they were on the road to Emmaus, going back home very sad. They never heard the word yet. So as they journeyed on, Jesus appeared with them. And notice, He didn't go to tell them some kind of fantastic, the first thing He went to, was back to the Word, said, “Fools, slow of heart, don't you know the prophets have said, the Word has said, that Christ must suffer to enter into His glory? He begin with the Word. And Christ always begins with the Word, and stays with the Word. And when He made hisself known to them by a sign, not a fantastic, a sign that He did before them here on earth, which made it a Bible sign, they rushed back, and in this midst of people, they found a guy named Thomas. “No, don't believe it. No, don't believe it. I've got to have bloody hands before I believe it.” He was the first Pentecostal. “I've got to have a sign. I've got to have some kind of a feeling, a sensation.” God's a good God. He appeared and said, “Thomas, come here.” Said, “Put your hands here in My side. Do you feel Me? If you want to feel something, here it is Thomas. Feel Me. Touch My hand.” And Thomas said, “Oh, now I believe.” He had to have a feeling. 37 The others didn't have to have a feeling. They had faith. They didn't need a sensation. Thomas had to have some evidence. They needed no evidence. The written Word was written, and they had faith in the written Word. Not special hard, brother, that's what Phoenix needs—faith in the written Word. And He said, “Thomas, now, you've had all the feeling and sensation, and you say you believe.” He's got many children, Thomas has. He said, “Now you believe. How much greater is their reward, who has never seen, or had any sensation, and still believe?” I want to be on that side—the greater reward. 57-0307 - "God Keeps His Word #2" Rev. This exhibit is called The Vietnam War: The Music. Our mission here at the Music Museum is to support all Vietnam Veterans and those who serve the United States, then and now. We thank you for your service. Early-on, in Vietnam, soldiers turned to music as a lifeline to the home front they promised to defend. Stateside music was a big part of a soldier’s down time that centered around the hooches and outposts of Vietnam. It’s all about the music. For your service and your sacrifice, this is The Vietnam War: The Music. Happy Sunday, siblings! For today's Y'all Feel Me episode, I'm diving into the concept of 'skinfolk,' and the detrimental effects of perpetuating white supremacy within the Black community. On a micro-level with student governments at universities, as well as on a macro level within our society. Have you seen a pattern of exclusively white and/or Black male leadership in SG or SGA at your school? Have you noticed the Black people who prop that system up? Comment, like, and DM to let me know! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/brooklen-farley/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brooklen-farley/support
Today's Y'all Feel Me episode is sort of a late-night edition, but I wanted to talk about how we can only truly #ProtectBlackWomen if we #ProtectBlackGirls first. Many young Black girls experience traumatic times during elementary and middle school, so I asked a few of my followers + friends to talk to me about their experiences during these times. This commentary is about reconciling those stories, exposing topics that Black girls have to face at a young age, and all things in between. Please let me know how you feel about this episode, and how you can protect Black women to the fullest extent in your personal life. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/brooklen-farley/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brooklen-farley/support

Spring is here. This mix begins with my favorite intro (which I tend to use in almost all sets that I play live) and morphs into a great trance/electronic dance set. I think that all the tunes in this mix are great tracks for the dance floor. There are very few vocal trance tracks that make me more happy than the 4 included in this set. "Feel Me" could quite possibly be one of the better vocal tracks I've heard in the last year, as it is an extremely uplifting/melodic/beautiful track. I think that this is a great mix to listen to at the end of the day watching the sunset (by the beach for me :P). Hope this mix makes you all as happy as it makes me. Tracklist:1.
