I sit down and talk with the legendary guru himself, Tim Manson. Tim is known and respected as one of the best trainers in the world and has worked with some of the top athletes to ever come through Seattle, including Kevin Durant, Zach Levine, Marcus Trufant, Nate Robinson, Isiah Thomas, Jamal Crawford, Spencer Hawes, Aaron Curry and many more. Tim graduated from Washington State where he played basketball and ran track, eventually going on to run track professionally after college, coming just shy of the olympics. Given his astounding resume, Tim is one of the most humble and modest individuals you will ever meet, and as he describes himself, “a social introvert, that doesn’t like to be in the spotlight.” He is also the mad scientist behind the training tool, the R3Bar. On top of the training accolades, Tim is one of the most cerebral individuals I’ve been around. Not only does he train your body, but trains your mind as he is constantly bringing up all kinds of topics and ideas. I have had the honor and pleasure of knowing and training with Tim for over a decade now, and he has been one of the most influential people in my life. I consider him my brother, trainer, and mentor. When I first thought about podcasting, he was the first person that popped into my mind of someone I wanted to talk with. In this episode, Tim tells his families unique history and how he grew up as a military baby, being born in Germany, before moving to Tennessee and ultimately settling and growing up in the tough streets of Tacoma. He explains his toxic childhood, including some of his worst fights, and explains how the rough area of Tacoma made him into the person he is today, all while acknowledging that for as successful as he is, with a few wrong turns he could have led him down the path that countless others from his neighborhood went down including jail and drug abuse. In addition to his story, we discuss the evolution of his training and what he is currently focused on as a trainer, what it means to be living, and where we are at in today’s society. Can’t wait for y’all to tune into this one!
In this episode, I sit down with Washington hoops legend, Spencer Hawes. Spencer was born and raised in Seattle, attending Seattle Prep, where he was one of the top recruits in the country. He chose to stay home and attend University of Washington before declaring for the NBA Draft and becoming a lottery pick. He's had a 10 year NBA career with a few different teams and is currently trying to get back into the league, while learning and enjoying more about himself outside of the basketball court. We discuss what it was like growing up and being the man from high school to college to lottery pick, and what was his mindset like when he was younger, and compare that with how he views the game of basketball now and what his current motivation and mindset is regarding getting back into the league. Somewhat unexpectedly, we get into a bit of politics and talk about where we are at as a society as a whole and how by just having a civil conversation could really help us all out to gain some understanding in these divisive times. This was one of my favorite conversations, as I have known and trained with Spencer for a few years now, but never really gotten to get to know him to the extent I do now. He is one of the most humble dudes I've been around, never talking about his time in the league, and so it was really cool to hear some of his stories. Hope y'all enjoy this one !

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds and Chris Fetters - got together during Day One of The Crawsover, the pro-am summer league hosted by Jamal Crawford at Seattle Pacific University, to catch up on a very busy week at the University of Washington. On Tuesday the media got a sneak peek of UW's new adidas football uniforms, so there was plenty to talk about there. But first, Grinolds and Fetters recapped what they saw at The Crawsover...or more to the point, WHO they saw. And there were a lot of past and present Huskies playing, including Spencer Hawes, David Crisp, Dominic Green, Nahziah Carter, Elijah Hardy, Isaiah Stewart, and Jaden McDaniels. After the basketball talk, it was time to talk about Washington's newest football commit for the 2020 recruiting class, Mater Dei OL Myles Murao, a big get for the Huskies in more ways than one. And then Grinolds puts Fetters on the spot to get his opinion on top 2020 local recruit Sav'ell Smalls and whether or not Smalls' recent Instagram post including UW back on his top list of schools means anything for UW going forward. The 1-3 Advantage returns this week as Ben and Tim reconvene to discuss some of the NBA’s hottest topics. For starters, the guys review some of the best games from the past 7 days as the NBA certainly didn’t fail to deliver some ridiculously entertaining basketball. Moving on from that, they touch on some of the more interesting story lines that have developed around the league, including the sudden spate of injuries to young stars and the rise of the Miami Heat. There’s also a “massive” trade to dissect, as the Milwaukee Bucks sent Miles Plumlee to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Spencer Hawes and Roy Hibbert. Following this, there’s a run through of the recent 10-day contract signees and a full round-up of all the latest trade rumours. Finally, it’s the far-too-late midseason awards as Ben and Tim debate winners of all the major categories. Few surprises ensue as the lads agree on almost every award, as well as the NBA’s First Team, mixed in with some Rudy Gobert appreciation and lamentation.
As of 2/2/17, the Milwaukee Bucks have dealt Miles Plumlee (4yr/$50M) to the Charlotte Hornets for Spencer Hawes (1yr/$5.8M guarenteed) and Roy Hibbert (1yr/$5M).
