To put it simply, Michael Leavy was born a filmmaker. Ever since he learned what a movie was he has dreamed of making them. Fortunately, it didn't take long for that dream to become a reality. Michael began shooting his own films and taught himself how to edit at an early age and has perfected his craft ever since. From the early days of using a paper-towel roll to scroll credits, all the way through mastering Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, his passion has never left. Michael almost single-handedly ran his high school's television studio; anchoring the show each morning and creating more skits and short films than anyone else in the studio's history. Michael received his Bachelor's Degree in TV & Film from Saint John's University and also took graduate classes to further his knowledge. In 2010 Michael Leavy, along with his brother Jason Leavy and Steven Della Salla, established a production company, Fuzz on the Lens Productions. In 2014 Fuzz on the Lens' received worldwide fame with their viral 'Staten Island Clown" publicity stunt. Michael has directed/produced a comedy/fantasy entitled "Abnormal Attraction" starring Malcom McDowell, Gilbert Gottfried, Tyler Mane, Leslie Easterbrook, and academy award nominee Bruce Davison. Michael is most known for starring as 'Will the Exterminator' in the now cult classic original 'Terrifier". More recently, Michael was one of the Producers and the Assistant Director of the Top 10 Box Office success, "Terrifier 2" and is currently Directing / Producing Fuzz on the Lens Productions next horror feature, "Stream", which stars horror icons; Jeffrey Combs, Danielle Harris, Tony Todd, Tim Reid, Dee Wallace, Daniel Roebuck, Felissa Rose, Dave Sheridan, Mark Holton, Damian Maffei and Art the Clown himself, David Howard Thornton.  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/steven-cuoco/support

What was one significant inspiring piece of pop-culture that a massive influence over your creative endeavours? All of us have had many, many different influences over the years but that's certainly NOT what we're interested in here, what we're talking about is that one thing you can remember that had a huge effect on you, why, how, and when. For me, I picked the time I saw the Tank Girl movie. It was all the way back in the mid 1990s. The movie didn't have much promotion so I didn't see it in the cinema because I didn't even know it was being screened, I only remember some radio ads. It came out on video very quickly and that's how I saw it. I rented it out and I actually own that very video cassette now because I bought it when the shop went out of business years later. An Ex stole my DVD and I can't buy a digital copy online here But I digress… When I saw that movie it was the perfect critical mass of creative influence for me. The story wasn't very good and it bore little relation to the comic but it was full of so much 1990s alt culture that it's a perfect time capsule and exemplar of the period; From the post-punk alt club fashions, to the alt rock and grunge soundtrack curated by Courtney Love, the aggressive alt-grrl femininity, the fantastic scenes depicted, the haircuts, and then there are the performances by Lori Petty, Tony Collette, Ice T, Malcom McDowell, Iggy Pop and more. It set off the creative bulbs in my head and I spent all evening creating a huge drawing on 3x A1 sheets of paper of a Tank covered in different incarnations of sexy Tank Girl inspired women. I was an art student at the time so I was very familiar with the alt culture depicted. At it's core the imagery of a funky dressed, sexy woman, with an aggressive DGAF attitude, paired with heavy, custom modified and decorated military hardware is what sticks with you and has been one of the core influences in my creative pursuits from then on. There have been many others of course, but this was A significant moment. The image in the art for this Quackcast is the drawing I made back then. I took it to class the next day and my lecturer just said that to her it just showed an “arrogance in drawing ability”, which I was a little shocked by, but this was the mid 1990s and drawing ability was NOT a priority among artists at the time. I am very serious- most 1990s fine artists lacked even rudimentary skill. It was a weird time. Can you tell us about any significant creative influence exposure events?

Showing more of Michael Myer's home life before he murders most of his family; sparing only his stripper mother and infant sister. We see him as a sociopath in the makings; maybe due to his environment and the people around him. After spending 15 years in a metal asylum, Michael breaks out to look for his now 16 year old sister, Laurie. With only a picture of her as a baby, Michael hones in on teenage Laurie, with intentions that are unclear. What is clear, is that no one who stands in his way lives. As fans of Rob Zombie, Acomi more of a fan of his wife Sherri, they try to watch the film objectively. With former wrestler Tyler Mane player another mostly mute killing machine, his first is Sabretooth in X-Men (2000); shoulder the weight of the movie. It's a mixed bag of good and bad, with Malcom McDowell bringing his best, a great soundtrack (minus any White Zombie or Rob Zombie songs), and cameos of horror movie greats. The movie is a beautiful homage to 80s horror films, but lacks a solid punch. So, grab a carving knife, and tell Scotty not to beam you up, as we watch Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007). Join us with our special guest Michael Leavy of Fuzz on the Lens Productions talking about the new movie STREAM! Put Some Skin in the Game over at https://igg.me/at/join-the-stream/x#/ https://fuzzonthelens.com/ STREAM: When Roy and Elaine Keenan realize their family is drifting apart, they decide that something needs to be done. Roy forces his work to take a back seat and they seize the opportunity to recreate a vacation from their past. A peaceful stay in a quaint hotel is just what they need, however that is not what is in store for them. With four deranged murderers patrolling the seemingly mundane halls, the odds are definitely not in the Keenan family's favor. Roy must fight for his life and those of his family as their simple weekend getaway truly turns into a vacation to die for. Michael Leavy: To put it simply, Michael Leavy was born a filmmaker. Ever since he learned what a movie was he has dreamed of making them. Fortunately, it didn't take long for that dream to become a reality. Michael taught himself how to edit at an early age and has perfected his craft ever since. More recently, Michael was cast as the lead alongside Emmy winner Martha Byrne in the film "Bottle in the Smoke" and has directed/produced a comedy/fantasy entitled "Abnormal Attraction" starring Malcom McDowell, Gilbert Gottfried, Tyler Mane, Leslie Easterbrook, and academy award nominee Bruce Davison. Revolution is in the air. Matt had never heard of the British film "If...." (1968) until Adam had him watch it. He loved it. A young Malcom McDowell stars as the lead "revolutionary" in an all boys prep school as he and a couple friends decide that school should be out, permanently. "If" is refreshingly unique and a little weird. Check it out. Woody Allen's "Bananas" (1971) was one of Matt's favorite films from high school, but now he thinks it doesn't hold up well. Adam thought it was a bit uneven. I never go into a movie with anything but the best intentions. We (humans) are constantly being let down. Unreasonable expectations are among our greatest scourges. When a movie with a four-dot ellipsis in the title immediately features an onscreen intertitle utilizing the three-dot variety, you'll want to die on the spot. This is one of the basic facts of life. Let's rewind.... When you briefly catch wind that the Palme d'Or winner at Cannes 1969 is celebrating its 50th anniversary and said movie features one of your favorite actors (Malcom McDowell) and you (somehow?) have never even heard of it before and that it's also streaming for free on Kanopy, well, you're gonna watch this movie and everything else that happens afterwards is up to fate.... 'If....' is not good. It's not bad in any offensive way, although the decision to present some scenes in black and white and others in color, seemingly at random, is aesthetically maddening. No, this film's main offense is that it is a snooze, a total bore. What charisma McDowell has, and he has buckets of it, is dried out by a lackluster supporting cast and non-starter script which, via the sands of time, has had any and all semblance of subversiveness wrung from of it. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/myspace/support

The Force Fed Sci-Fi Movie Podcast

This week, the Force Fed Sci-Fi team watched the Doomsday (2008) film, which is another variation of a post-apocalyptic world, focusing more so on the Great Britain part of the world. Unlike our last film we reviewed and discussed, The Postman, where we didn't get an answer on what caused such a desolate world, at least Doomsday offers the explanation that the "reaper virus" is the cause of such a chaotic society. So join us this week, as we dive into the Doomsday (2008) film, the Doomsday movie cast and characters, and more! The Writer and Director of Doomsday, Neil Marshall Other Film and TV Accreditations Neil Marshall Neil Marshall wrote and directed the Doomsday (2008) film. Other projects Marshall has worked on include Dog Soldiers and the critically-acclaimed horror film The Descent. Marshall has also worked on television series episodes such as with Game of Thrones (episodes "Blackwater"and "The Watchers on the Wall"), Westworld (episode "The Stray"), and Netflix's Lost in Space. Inspiration for the Doomsday (2008) Film Marshall intentionally and admittedly took aspects from some of his favorite films and inserted them into this one. The ones we at Force Fed Sci-Fi recognized were Escape From New York, Excalibur, Gladiator, and Mad Max. We appreciate Marshall paying homage to these films, but at some points it felt like it was too similar and unoriginal. More on that later when we cover our thoughts on the ending of this film. Doomsday Movie Cast and Character Analysis Rhona Mitra as Major Eden Sinclair - Mitra did a nice job at playing the lead role. While there isn't much depth to her character in this film, but she does well playing a no-fear and confident female leader of a militaristic group while kicking butt. Rhona Mitra, Photo courtesy of Joits Adrian Lester as Sergeant Norton - We think Lester and his character Norton didn't get enough screen time in this film. While there's a bit of a rough meeting between he and Mitra's character at the beginning, they form a strong bond, but it seems to be cut too short. However, within that limited amount of time, Norton is given a few decent action sequences. Probably most notably, Norton is given the most honorable death in this film compared to everyone else who is gruesomely murdered with a display of excessive gore. Craig Conway as Sol - It's always tough when it comes to characters like Sol in some of these films. Essentially, he is bat-sh** crazy. Most audience members don't relate to these types of characters, but you have to give Conway credit as he brought a high-level of intensity to the role. You can't miss him yelling and shouting all of his lines throughout the film, which all come with showers of spit and saliva (and actually we seem to remember him not even having lines in the last action sequence, just yelling and growling). Malcolm McDowell as Marcus Kane - One of the two most well-known actors in this film is McDowell. His part is limited, but important as he is the one the militaristic group is sent to find since prior to the infection causing post-apocalyptic world, he was a doctor trying to find the cure for the "reaper virus." However, we soon find that his character just pretty much gave up on all of that and decided to become the leader of a renaissance-like community. McDowell does a decent job at playing his character, but again it is limited. As Sean mentions in the podcast, we will eventually cover him again as he appears in the film Start Trek Generations and we may one-day cover A Clockwork Orange. Malcom McDowell, photo courtesy of GabboT Bob Hoskins as Bill Nelson - Hoskins is the second actor in the film we need to cover who is decently well-know (rest in peace). Again though, he has limited screen time as he pretty much gets Mitra's character ready and on her way for her and her squad's mission and at the end.
