Veteran American actor Tamlyn Tomita is my guest this week to make sure that as many people as possible know about East West Players' last production of their 57th season Spring Awakening. This revolutionary musical won the "Best Musical" Tony Award on Broadway, and I can promise you that Director Tim Dang's version at the David Henry Hwang Theater in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, is Broadway-quality! Tamlyn and husband Daniel Blinkoff play all of the adult roles quite convincingly, and the ensemble cast of young actors will have you questioning whether this production is truly their professional debut. Head over to www.eastwestplayers.org to find a performance that matches your schedule and purchase your tickets.

My neighbor since 1991, Pete Corrao was born in San Diego, California on November 3, 1925. Just 3 months before graduating high school, he was drafted and never received his diploma. On the afternoon of December 7, 1941, he was attending a football game at Balboa Stadium when it was announced that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. He attended boot camp in San Diego and went on to radio school. Pete served on ships throughout the Pacific, spending three weeks in Hawaii and then to Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands. Pete was serving on Eniwetok atoll when the bomb was dropped over Japan to end the war. He was discharged in March, 1946, serving 2 years in the US Navy. After the war, he returned to San Diego and became a commercial fisherman and then managed a grocery store where he worked with his wife. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/support

Welcome to Real Israel Talk Radio Episode 96. I reckon everyone has a life story to tell. But not everyone has a life story to tell about being an 88-year-old veteran post-WWII and Vietnam veteran soldier of the U.S. American Army. A soldier of war and, later, a warrior and combatant for the Prince of Peace. Today's show is a graceful and candid conversation with Retired U.S. Army Commander and Colonel Carl Smith of Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island, Washington State. In 1948, buck private Carl Smith advanced through U.S. Army ranks, ending his full colonel's military career. On our program today, he gives us some of the highlights of his nearly nine decades of life, which includes 33 ½ years of Army military service in post-war Japan, one tour on helicopter gunships in the Vietnam War, as well as military duties in Italy and in the halls of the United States Pentagon. About halfway through Colonel Smith's military career, he found himself in lockstep with a trusting faith in Yeshua the Messiah. Beginning his journey as a Soldier for Truth, he later put on a soldier's uniform for the Torah of Truth in Yeshua the Messiah. After this, life as a U.S. Army commander changed. We'll learn about his life and stories on today's program.

She decided to take the opportunity to join and began her military career. She served on active duty within the Missouri National Guard. Within six years of being in the National Guard she went from Enlisted to Officer. When her unit was deployed, they needed a Public Affairs Officer and she said yes to the opportunity and deployed to Iraq as a Public Affairs Officer. She shared stories of her experience in Iraq and the stories she was able to cover.Coming home from deploymentWhen she came home from the deployment, she moved to Maryland to be closer to her kids and life seemed to be going well. Then the government shut down and she was furloughed and eventually lost her job. She frantically searched for a new job and moved again this time to Washington. Eventually, she got a part-time job and filled in her income bartending and eventually became full time. She learned about Ms. Veteran American competition and competed in 2013 and was the second runner up and then took home the title in 2015. She went back on active duty National Guard in 2014 while serving as Ms. Veteran America. Through her advocacy work, she learned about the challenges military women and veterans face.Life changesShe was working to become one of the first women to be in a combat role in her state when she found out she was pregnant. This unexpected, but a joyful event, changed her focus and she made the hard choice to leave the military behind so she could be home with her infant. Her husband continued to serve and is now retired.Empowering Women through sharing storiesOut of a dream she decided to launch Freedom Sisters Media and now runs a podcast and media company. A great chat with Don Bramer about the fantastic organization he oversees, the American Freedom Fund. A nonprofit that empowers veterans through a mission of athletics, education, and advocacy. Next week is their annual Manhattans, Martinis & Mistletoe Veterans Awards Gala in Washington, DC. Tickets are still available for this great cause! What is the American Freedom Fund? American Freedom Fund (AFF), 501(c)(19), was founded in 2016 by three combat veterans, LT Don Bramer, MAJ Rob Miller, and Petty Officer Gabe Stecker. After their individual tours of duty, they sought a way to continue serving their brothers and sisters in arms by providing the Veteran community the opportunity; the means to maintain the fellowship; and the support of the military as they transition towards their next career. AFF empowers Active Duty, Reserve and Separated Service Members through a mission of athletics, education, and advocacy. The goal of AFF is simple: provide a place for active duty and Veteran service members to come together in a spirit of camaraderie to participate in recreational AND competitive sports; to afford the means and opportunity for student Veterans who seek a career in defense or public policy to achieve the next step in their goals; and to raise awareness and financial support for Veteran focused organizations that are providing crucial resources for Veterans in the community.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theprotectors)
