Having Strength To Do What You Need Without Losing Yourself (Olya Hill)

Today we are focusing on the power of  positive mindset and how it can influence our lives as career women, mothers, and as human beings. Together with my guest, we dig into topics such as how to juggle life, know who you are, tune in to your needs, grant yourself the gift of authenticity, and choose what is right. The energy and positivity of this episode are exciting! If you are female, this episode is especially for you!   Our guest is Olya Hill, founder of Living Notes. Olya is a former dancer, now a creative director, and the mother of seven children. She is a beautiful soul that believes in energy and positive mindset. She believes in womens’ empowerment, choosing ourselves as humans, being authentic and evolving with life.   Olya takes us through her journey as a young dancer. Having an Eastern European background and moving to the United States at just 18 years old, she retells how her grandmother had a profound influence on her choices, especially to have a large family. She tells us about the struggles of being a mother and a dancer at the same time. The expectation from her own society and the world of dance, is to show up, no matter what the excuse may be, or someone else will take your job. There is no empathy towards being a mother, especially for women artists. The most frequent attack that she had to face in her line of work was, “You were the one who chose to have the kids, so either go and be a mom or be a professional”, which is an incredibly cruel expectation.    Dance, meditation, and mindfulness saved Olya during complicated pregnancies and after suffering postpartum depression. She firmly believes that being a grounded person and having a healthy balance in life are ingredients to becoming a good parent. Life as a mother and a professional can often be challenging, but we hope that our discussion helps you to discover what is right for  you..    As Olya shared with us today, being our true selves and giving ourselves the freedom to come back to what is truly important to us are essential to success. In our continuing series of mental health in the workplace / entrepreneurship, we meet Natalie Bacon, who pivoted from being a practicing business Attorney, to starting and authoring a blog, to becoming a certified financial planner and finally transitioning to become trained as a full time life coach.   She shares her struggles and trauma from growing up with an alcoholic dad whose life revolved around DWI's, being in & out of jail, and his financial consequences, and the trauma of having recently lost her dad with whom she rebuilt her relationship.   Often, anxiety, panic and fear of the unknown hold us back when making big decisions, but it is crucial to find self love as the first step to improving our lives and goals. Feeling good when facing obstacles help us to remove the boundaries that we may unwittingly impose on ourselves. Nathalie gives us tremendous tips, techniques and tools to mindset improvement, such as accepting what is, instead of rejecting it, using your brain to bend your current beliefs and finding the upside of the natural human tendency to gravitate to a negative mindset and instead find meaning to our obstacles and accomplish positive change.   Matana shares her own real life scenarios of how goal setting and a life coach can help us achieve our desired outcomes when its hard to take that first step and how to identify and plan in advance, for events that challenge us, in order to help us make decisions in those moments and substitute things that challenge our goals with goal enhancing behaviors. We are kicking off this conversation by speaking with online entrepreneur and speaker, Maley Jaxx, who in just a few short years transitioned from her career to being in the public eye with her very popular brand and online presence. We continue the second part of our episode with Aliza Bulow, whose son Dani, died by suicide. Due to his diagnosed extreme depression and bipolar, Dani's constant mantra since the age of 5 was that he did not want to live or be alive. As a loving parent walking on tiptoes, Aliza was constantly petrified of the day Dani would take his own life. She shares with us the intimate thoughts only a mother could, with extreme respect, love and fear of her son's wishes and the truth of how he didn't want to kill himself, he just didn't want to be alive.   Aliza discusses her inner torment and constant worry as well as the sad feelings of relief and unintentional strange comfort in the wake of his death,  that the worries of hearing a bump in the night are no longer a reason to leap out of bed and fully aware that she "didn't give him permission but he got his wish". She came to realize that he died of his illness, planning out his death and respectfully asking his mother her preferred method, as he respected her wishes.    This powerful episode opens the discussion of how not to be afraid to engage in hyper sensitive material. How to discuss suicide without giving permission but understanding the illness. It takes greatness and a healthy frame of mind to recognize that this was not her fault , she did nothing wrong, she was not a bad mother, they were simply nothing that she could do.   We also learn how parents can grow closer together despite having faced such a tragedy, and not also lose their marriage. --   Today's episode of Hope to Recharge is sponsored by https://Betterhelp.com/hopetorecharge.    Betterhelp.com is the world’s leading provider of online therapy. We are joined in this first of two episodes, with Aliza Bulow to talk about suicide awareness. Aliza shares the story of her young son, Doni, who was determined to accomplish his lifelong request of dying by suicide. She gives us insight from a parent that lives with someone with depression and a desire for death by suicide.   Doni was the sixth child of Aliza and her husband and was a charming little boy. From the young age of five he began to articulate that he "did not want to be on this world". Due to his extreme mental pain, he considered different forms of death and continued to express this goal throughout his young childhood years.  As a teen, he was good looking, smart and had lots of friends and a supportive family. He was a creative thinker, young computer innovator and budding genius, and had a passion for coding for Firefox. He was not disobedient or disruptive, but simply played by his own rules.   Aliza had other children with learning challenges, attention issues, sensory issues, and sleep issues, but nothing was helpful in diagnosing Doni’s symptoms. "He was a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, surrounded by a question mark all the time". He was diagnosed with extreme depression and bipolar at a young age which prevented any normal functioning and age-appropriate learning.    Aliza and her husband tried everything they could do to treat Doni’s diagnosis. Going to psychologists and psychiatrists, having Doni live with his Grandma in a remote forest and even transferred Doni to a school with children having different learning styles didn't change the fact that Doni’s death was expected.   Aliza came to accept and recognize that Doni was mentally terminally ill, which allowed her to reduce her constant overpowering and crippling worrying and be able to continue to function for the rest of the family and also be available for Doni as best she could.    Sometimes we forget to talk about how hard it is to be a loved one to somebody that is struggling so hard, and we simply may not be able to understand their mind. We might try to help and prevent them from injuring or killing themselves, but we may not be able to actually understand how to comfort them.   These topics are so important for us to be able to support the ones in our life that are going through this journey of suicide thoughts and conversations, suicide attempts, and actual death by suicide.   --   Today's episode of Hope to Recharge is sponsored by https://Betterhelp.com/hopetorecharge.    Betterhelp.com is the world’s leading provider of online therapy. I can’t believe another month has gone, and I am so grateful for all the stories shared the last two months, where we learned so much about managing loss and grief. This month will be dedicated to discussing suicide awareness, and I’m so happy to have the first guest to discuss this topic, Marni Ratner.   Marni Ratner lost her husband to suicide in 2009 and suddenly became the breadwinner for her two children ages 3 and 7 at the time. Through early grief counseling and a large network of extended family and friends, her kids are now thriving young adult with her oldest recently going off to college. Eleven years after her husband’s death, Marni finds strength in mentoring new widows and is also a strong proponent of suicide prevention.   Marni has been active in several widow support groups, some formal organizations, and others more casual. The most memorable being as a founding member of a local group called 180 Your Life, which is more experience-focused and strives to embrace exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Their first event was training for the Athleta Irongirl Sprint Triathlon. Their team of young widows was sponsored by Athleta, who even outfitted the team with custom uniforms.   In this episode, Marni will share her thoughts on suicide after 11 years of reflection. I hope you find this conversation inspiring and motivates you to break the stigma about suicide. Saying goodbye and moving on is not saying things will be the same, but we can choose to see how we can grow in transitions and simply acknowledge that although things will be different,  different is not always bad.  We also dig into the energetic and mindset side of saying goodbye. It may be easier doing the same things that we are used to doing, however with the unknown there can also be tremendous growth and blessings. So instead of avoiding change, sometimes we need to embrace it.  If you need support in your transitions please find us in our private Facebook group, Hope to Recharge. We also offer free 30-minute coaching calls to new potential clients if you would like to explore how we could support you. The past two months exploring the topic of grief has been incredibly eye-opening to me. What started as a journey to understand the process of losing someone has gifted me with more wisdom and hope than I ever could have imagined. It never occurred to me how desperate people are for this topic. There are so many people who are struggling after loss and it was an amazing experience to facilitate conversations that brought hope. I am incredibly grateful for my guests for being vulnerable and adding so much insight on a topic that many people are unable or scared to address. In this short episode, I share a few takeaways I have had in this time together. I also share with you about an exclusive episode we have with Malkie Gordon Hirsch about what it was like to plan and celebrate her son’s Bar Mitzvah right after the passing of her husband. After receiving a devastating diagnosis, Avrom Jacobs only had a few short months to prepare for the passing of his wife. Today my uncle joins us to share about his experience in grief and how he and his wife were able to make difficult decisions quickly, all while saying goodbye to each other. Uncle Avrom and I begin this conversation sharing about his close marriage to my Aunt Laura, a kind, smiling, brilliant Doctor with a passionate vision and a long list of accomplishments and degrees, and the beautiful life they shared and family they raised. My husband Ari and I have a beautiful, close history and precious memories with this couple, from the start of our dating, throughout our marriage and raising our own family, and they both made an indelible and profound impact on our lives and the lives of our children. It was an honor to get to sit down with him today and learn from his wisdom of experiencing and navigating through such a profound loss. Since he and his wife were only given a few months to prepare for her passing, they quickly made decisions for their family, children and businesses. Uncle Avrom shares how they were able to put their emotions to the side and make practical decisions and why he urges families to prepare early so they are not left in the same position they were in. We also discuss the inevitable questions that you ask God after losing someone and how you are able to move on in the midst of sadness. Uncle Avrom shares such practical wisdom that I know you will enjoy as much as I did. After experiencing the devastating loss of her husband in an accident that she personally witnessed, our guest this week went on a journey to not only work through her own grief, but also create a space for other women who had been through similar experiences to come together, heal, and experience personal GROWTH.. Today I am welcoming the host of The Widowed Mom podcast, and grief coach, Krista St. Germain to discuss the life she discovered after walking through traumatic loss and why she believes there is not only “life” after death, but there can also be happiness. She shares with us about the concept of “Post-Traumatic Growth” and how we can use that to infuse hope into our healing process. Krista also shares with us how sometimes we use “numbness” as a protective shield and the importance for us to experience every emotion and work through it. She gives an unconventional perspective about how we can experience any emotion without allowing it to rule our life and still function in the midst of pain. We also discuss the importance of staying present, moving past resistance, and making a choice on how we view ourselves through grief. This is a powerful conversation INFUSED by hope despite the fact it is centered around such a difficult topic. We hope this brings light to whatever circumstance you are going through and helps you to feel not as alone. One day, Malkie Gordon Hirsch received a phone call that would forever change her life. She was told that her husband had collapsed at work and had passed away. She was then left to not only navigate through her own grief but also try to help her five children process through the loss of their father. This is part one of our two-part conversation where Malkie generously walks us through the first year of life after losing a spouse. She openly shares with us the importance of feeling pain, not numbing yourself to it’s grip, and the process of healing. We discuss the difference between empathizing with someone and having “pity” over them and how important it is to show up in the RIGHT way for someone who is hurting. To kick off our month discussing the topic of grief I have two incredibly special guests that are dear to my heart to discuss this topic from the perspective of two daughters who lost a very loving mother.  Many of you have heard me mention a dear friend of mine named Holly, who we unfortunately lost way too soon several years ago. I had the honor of interviewing her two beautiful daughters to discuss this very vulnerable topic of grief and hear how they have navigated through the process of losing someone so special to them. We not only hear about the story of their mom, and what it was like losing her but we also hear their perspective about what they have learned through this experience and how they are using it to inform their day to day life and welcome gratitude in. We hope that this conversation sheds a hopeful light on grief and gives you the tools to overcome any grief that you may be experiencing. Also if you are like me, and have many questions about grief, we hope this conversation answers some of your questions about how you can move forward after losing someone. If you need any additional support in your mental health journey, we would love to be your tribe. Find us on Facebook, Hope to Recharge, where you will find a community of like minded individuals. We hope that you enjoyed last month’s conversations centered around self-love! This year is FLYING by and as we enter into the last half of 2020 I want to take some time to discuss with you the topic of grief and shine a light on how to say goodbye to the person or experience we are grieving in a healthy and healing way. In today’s episode, I share with you why this topic is so dear to my heart. Although I have not personally experienced grief in the sense of losing someone close to me unexpectedly, I recently experienced a deep fear of the unknown of grief. I have so many questions about it and have realized that I know little about the topic.  I have been spending week’s researching it and talking to others about what grief is and how we overcome it. I am going to share these conversations with you and we are going to dig in together and learn more about the inevitable events that we will all one day face and explore how we can get through them the best way that we can. I also have learned that there are many forms of grief and even if you have not experienced the loss of someone you still have experienced grief. We hope this month brings you HOPE that you can overcome more than you may think and that there is always hope. Why Self-Love is the Path to Healing (Fally Klein)

Do you love yourself enough to take three deep breaths, three times a day? We are wrapping up our series on Self-Love with a life-changing conversation about why practices even as small as taking deep breaths can be  the foundation to our mental health. Most of us have been in quarantine over the last several months and have been left alone with ourselves for the first time in a long time. This experience has forced us in a position to look long and hard at ourselves and come face to face with the reality of who we are and how we treat ourselves. We have a returning guest, and listener favorite leading the conversation,  Fally Klein.  Fally shares with us why this opportunity is a GIFT and how we can use this time to open our eyes to the way we treat ourselves and begin to shift unhealthy behaviours. She reminds us that no matter how much love other people give you- if you do not love yourself you will not FEEL love. Everything starts from within. She reminds us that you can only love yourself to healing and that by doing so the right relationships and people will be attracted into your life. Although this process takes time, it will be worth it! She also walks us through very practical practices that we can use to experience self-love. We hope this conversation encourages you that love is not something that simply happens- it's something that you create. We would love to be your tribe in your mental health journey. Do you ever feel as though you need an EMOTIONAL detox? Often we are carrying so many unprocessed emotions that we walk around feeling overwhelmed and even confused by all that we are feeling. Today we have an expert on all things emotional detox, Sherianna Boyle. Sherianna specializes in the “Cleanse” method that she uses to help her clients process through and detox unprocessed emotions. Today she explains her seven-step process and shares with us how judging and resisting emotions can keep us stuck and interfere with our mental health and growth. We dig into what Sherianna calls “emotional suppression” and how we should view our emotions not as the enemy, but rather as nutrients that we need to fully develop and be mentally strong. She walks us through an energetic understanding of emotions and how energy is simply “movement". We also walk through an actual exercise where Sherianna helps me detox one of my emotions through a simple process that only takes about ten minutes! You get to hear the exercise and the results that I had live on the show-- it’s astounding! We hope this conversation gives you another tool in your tool kit for combatting your own mental struggles. Many people come to me looking for a quick fix to resolve some of their mental health struggles. The first thing I always ask them, regardless of their situation is, "Do you know you are worthy of being healed?" More often than not, they respond, "I don't know." This month, we have been talking exclusively about the idea of loving yourself and being your own advocate. The deeper I go into my own healing journey, The more convinced I become that this is the first step and foundation of true mental wellness. However many of us have never been taught or developed the SKILL of putting ourselves first and practicing regular self-care. In today's solo episode, I share with you my own self-love practice and break down many myths surrounding loving and accepting yourself. Until we practice self-love it is VERY hard to heal and we have to learn to accept ourselves FULLY, even in the midst of deep pain. I break down my morning routine, weekly "thank you" gifts to myself, and how these small acts can champion the deep inner healing that many of us are seeking. We also talk about how to be more self-aware and recognize when we are saying “no” to ourselves too often and “yes” too much to others. I also want you to know that we never "arrive" and will always be learning and growing in this area. We would love to be your support system as you practice self love! This month we are talking about the practice of self-love. In theory you may be drawn to the idea of implementing self-care routines and learning to love yourself, however it is often  more difficult to practice than we anticipate. Sometimes it is easy to compare yourself to others and be your own worst critic. Today I have the honor of introducing you to Dr. Jane Tornatore who shares with us her own journey of letting go of perfectionism and learning to love her-self despite all the “imperfections” that she saw. Dr. Tornatore is a therapist and author and helps her clients reframe how they view “healing” and helps them rewrite unhealthy belief systems. She challenges the notion that there is anything inherently “wrong” with us and encourages us to lean more into who we are and love ourselves unapologetically. Today we break down how we can find the courage to be more human, understand the deep rooted belief patterns that we developed as children and how they are affecting us today, and understand where judgment of ourselves and others comes from. I know that you will love this interview as much as I enjoyed talking with Dr. Tornatore. We hope that these tips empower you to begin the practice of loving yourself and if you are already on the journey of self-compassion we hope this amplifies your efforts, because you are worth it. As mothers we are always putting others before ourselves and serving our families in ways that often go unseen. We are also wearing many other hats and putting ourselves continually on the back-burner and sometimes even neglecting our own mental health.  Today we have the honor of hearing from Dr. Claire Nicogossian as she shares with us how we can practice proper self-care as mommas and why it is so vitally important. Dr. Claire Nicogossian is a clinical psychologist, author, and mother of four girls. She knows first hand the stress that comes with motherhood and she is able to couple that along with her knowledge of psychology to help moms practice self-compassion.  In this episode, we dive into the different layers of being a mom, how we can properly cope with stress, not feel guilty practicing self-care, and how to put our mental health as a priority. We also discuss how to move past feelings of “unworthiness” and why there is no measure of worth for the work that we do as moms. Dr. Claire encourages us that it is OKAY to have feelings of overwhelm and what you are experiencing as a mom may be more common than you think. She gives us some helpful advice on how we can deal with our “shadow” emotions and why we must communicate with our loved ones what our boundaries are. Breaking the Stigma around Self-Love (1 Year Celebration)

We are celebrating one full YEAR of Hope to Recharge and I have learned so much over the past hundred episodes! Before embarking on this journey, I thought I knew a lot about mental health, but after interviewing so many experts and hearing others’ stories, I realized how much more there is to learn, and how REAL the stigma around mental health really is. Sometimes knowledge is everything. There is not enough education about mental health, how to heal, and the hope that we do have. This was an amazing year, but there is still so much work to do. Thank you for your support up to this point, but let’s lock arms and make the next one-hundred episodes even more impactful for those who desperately need hope. To lay the foundation for healing we are going to spend the next month digging into the topic of Self-Love. If we do not have a foundation of self-love our healing journey will be much more difficult. Sometimes we resist the idea of loving ourselves because it sounds “selfish” or self-absorbed. However, the truth is, until we believe that we are worthy of healing we will not fight for ourselves. If you need additional support (we all do!) find us on Facebook, Hope to Recharge. We have a private community who will stand in your corner and support you in your healing journey. Sometimes life hits you with events that will literally bring you to your knees. Even if you have never struggled with mental health issues before, you can find yourself in a dark place very quickly and struggle with thoughts that might surprise you. Today we are joined by my friend Christian Hampshire as he shares with us about his struggle with mental health and why he openly talks about his experience with suicidal ideation in hope to break the stigma around mental illness and help others to not feel alone. Christain found himself a few years ago with a dark depression and considering taking his own life after losing his job and struggling with drinking. Although he was an avid athlete and accomplishing physical challenges that many of us could only dream of, he still was left wondering if his family would be better off without him. Today he shares with us how he was able to pull himself out of that dark place and why he is now passionate about sharing his story in order to help others who may be struggling as well. We discuss what family members can do for their loved ones who are hurting and how we can find the “controlables” in our own lives to improve our mental health. This is a powerful story that I cannot wait to share with you. If you or someone you love are struggling with thoughts of suicide please find the suicide helplines below. What is it like to live with Bipolar? If you are struggling with a mental illness it can feel incredibly isolating because of the stigma attached to your diagnosis. Today we have an incredible guest, Sara Benbassat, who generously shares her story in order to break the shame around Bipolar and humanize the experience that many people face. One of the goals of Hope to Recharge is to break the stigma around mental illness. As Sara mentions in today’s episode, mental struggles are more common than we may like to admit and it is likely that if you do not struggle personally, there is someone in your family that does. One of the ways that we can break the stigma is to hold space for the experiences and stories of others. Sara shares about the mental health climate in London where she lives and what it was like when she first started experiencing signs of her illness. She walks us through her journey of having psychotic episodes, being admitted into a hospital, and the pain of being taken away from her daughter. We walk through navigating relationships and discovering your identity after experiencing trauma. Sara also talks about the process of forgiving and giving yourself grace during difficult times. As she says, “everything is a process” and although the journey can be long, you do not have to suffer in silence. We hope this story brings you clarity about the diagnosis of Bipolar whether you are walking through it yourself or you have a loved one who is. The journey does not have to be walked through alone. Today is a milestone episode that is being celebrated in a very special way. We have been discussing gratitude extensively on the podcast for one year and to close up our season of “Attitude of Gratitude” we are hearing from THE authority on gratitude, Dr. Robert Emmons. For over 20 years Dr. Emmons has researched, taught, and wrote about the topic of gratitude concluding simply that, “Gratitude Works”. In our conversation he shares with us how an assignment to study gratitude changed the course of his own life and gave him the opportunity to understand one of the most powerful tools that we have available to us right now. He shares that, “Gratitude is the truest approach to life” and we can CHOOSE to walk in gratitude no matter what our circumstances. He believes that “Gratitude energizes and shapes the future” and actually “frees” us in our day-to-day life. We also discuss the routine of gratitude and how we can develop the habit while our lives are already so busy.  We hope that you enjoyed this episode and loved this series of Attitude of Gratitude as much as we have. As we approach our 100th episode I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate our milestone Attitude of Gratitude by interviewing someone who I credit for my gratitude practice, my own father. As I have mentioned on the show before my parents raised my siblings and I to look for and express gratitude on a daily basis. As an adult I am incredibly grateful for this being instilled in me, because as we discuss on the show, gratitude enriches your life in every way. Today my father shares with us the origins of his gratitude practice, including stories about his father which created a legacy of gratitude in our family. We also talk about why he believes that practicing gratitude is like a “dinosaur” and the responsibility we have to carry on the practice and train our children to be grateful.  He says, “The world is in search of people who demonstrate gratitude” and we hope this episode not only encourages you to continue your own practice but to also train your children in the importance of gratitude. We would love to hear from you! Did you parents teach you gratitude? How are you training your children to be grateful? What voices do you listen to? There are voices we carry with us as a result of trauma or heartache that can be difficult to silence. Sometimes these voices dictate aspects of our lives and the decisions that we make. How can we tune in and listen to the voice of truth about who we truly are? Today I have the honor of introducing you to J.S. Park, a hospital chaplain and author who is passionate about holding space for the pain of others and guiding us to Hope. Joon (J.S) shares with us about his draw toward working with those who are hurting and how his own healing came about as a result from helping others. We talk about finding self-love and compassion for yourself and how we can balance this with self-growth. We also discuss our hesitancy to “live out loud” and how we can align ourselves with who we feel called to be.  Joon also shares with us his tips of navigating anxiety and how we can find “glimpses” of hope throughout our day.  This is a powerful episode that I promise you do not want to miss. This week we released an episode with Dr. Frier on the topic of grief. I decided to release the episode a little earlier than we had planned because of all the grief we are collectively experiencing through the coronavirus. Although I have not personally experienced the loss of someone very close to me, I have been thinking so much about the topic and have many questions around grief. The main question that I have been contemplating is, “Can we practice gratitude while we are grieving?” Today I explore this topic with you and share with you what I am learning as I listen to podcasts, explore scripture, and speak with friends who have experienced deep loss. Although I am still processing through this, there are some interesting conclusions that I have come to that I share with you today.  We also dig into why we should not speed grief or compare losses. And how grief can actually accelerate gratitude, which doesn’t mean the pain goes away, we simply find meaning in the pain. What are your thoughts on this topic? How do you conceptualize the topics of grief and gratitude? Find us in our private Facebook group, Hope to Recharge and let us know. Losing someone you love can feel unbearable. Walking through grief and navigating the emotions that come up even years after your loss is a journey unlike anything you will experience in this life. When the loved one that you lose is a child, the grief can be overwhelming. Today I had the honor of connecting with Dr. Eric Fier, a psychiatrist who not only understands grief from a professional standpoint, but also a deep personal level. Dr. Fier joins us in this episode to share his powerful story of losing his daughter, how he conceptualized the process of grief, and how he brings life and hope to the topic of loss. He says after he received his daughter's diagnosis, he knew he had to “reconceptualize everything” and the conclusions that he came to about the purpose of life and death is unlike anything I have heard before. In this conversation we not only hear this moving story but also dive in deep to how to find “joy in pain”, embracing challenges by seeing the “opportunities”, how pain is “not relative”, and why we should never say “why me” but instead say “what now”. We also have a beautiful conversation about nature and the implications of stopping, being still and hearing what the world is “singing to you”.  We hope this interview brings you hope if you are experiencing or have experienced a loss, or perhaps if someone you love is grieving, we hope this conversation may bring you some insight on how to better understand them. As Dr. Fier mentions in this episode, everyone’s journey is different and there isn’t necessarily “closure” to losing someone. We would love to hear from you! This is a special week as we enter into Passover. It is allowing me to reflect deeply on the meaning of the holiday and all the little things that I have to be grateful for. Today I share with you about the moments of gratitude I have found and the importance of leaning into the “small things” that will completely change your perspective. Usually on Passover I have twenty to thirty people over to my home, but in light of the pandemic that is sweeping the world, we just have those who live in my house which I am actually excited about. Last night as we gathered in the kitchen I was reflecting on everything I have to be grateful for and the abundance that is around me. Even with everything going on, I encourage you to find the small things in your day. Your gratitude will begin to amplify. Today we connected with the incredible Fally Klein, who is a hypnotherapist, author, and breathwork practitioner who will help us uncover another powerful tool in our healing journey. After walking through a diagnosis and recovering from cancer as a teenager Fally was introduced to the concept of energy and the power of the subconscious.  Fally shares what it was like to navigate the emotions and stigma that came from having cancer at such a young age and what she learned from it as a result. She experienced a miraculous healing that she believes set her on a path that she was destined to travel. Today we dig into powerful topics like, how resilience factors into our healing, paying attention to the “signs” in our life that are trying to lead us in a certain direction, and how hypnotherapy can bring healing much quicker than we think. She also shares about her work as a sex therapist and how she is able to work with clients who may have unconscious sexual trauama. Lastly we talk about how through years of experience with hypnotherapy she found her “home” when she discovered breathwork. She says that breath is the most “powerful nutrient” in our body and how we can reap its benefits through simple daily practices. We would LOVE to hear from you! Goodbye Sadness (Attitude of Gratitude)

After dealing with my own sickness this week, I was reminded of the power of gratitude. Today I share with you about my own journey of “saying goodbye” to my sadness. There was one day specifically that was really hard for me. We have several friends who are losing loved ones and even sick themselves. I found myself going into a dark sadness. I allowed myself that time to hold space for those emotions. At the end of the day, I realized that I needed to shift out of that sadness for my own well being, so I had to say goodbye. There is a time and place for everything. I even thanked my sadness because it has a purpose in life as well.  I realized more than ever that I have the power to choose. Sometimes we need to choose sadness and other times we need to say goodbye to it. We have to leave the dark places and choose gratitude. What about you? Have you allowed space for sadness? How are you processing through what is going on into the world? We would love to hear from you and be a part of your community! Find us on Facebook, Hope to Recharge. Because as always, together is better!   My Poem: Tonight I decided: To say goodbye to sadness,  To thank it for coming in to hold space for my pain, for existing when I need comfort and support.  For letting me practice the concept of holding space for others' pain, for understanding how life is so unpredictable, for giving us time to process. Now it's time for me to welcome light and joy, To focus on my blessings, To continue counting my blessings, To invite much more blessing and healing into the world, So I can beg God to send healing light through gratitude and not through pain and anger. So my kids can be happy when mommy is happy,  So I can focus on my inner strength and continuing to stay mentally healthy, I now choose to live with abundance and not sadness. I choose to welcome the bigger meaning behind something I don't understand instead of being frustrated that I don't understand.  I am grateful that I have a choice. A choice to choose happiness. A choice to smile about what is right here, right now.  A choice to live this very moment with love and happiness. A choice to bring comfort to my broken heart.  A choice to accept that I don't understand and I probably will never understand everything and that is okay. A choice to send much love and hope through energy when I cannot do it physically. A choice to turn to God for love like a little girl wanting a hug from Daddy when she feels scared. A choice to be ok. I'm smiling and crying and that's OK! I'm welcoming lots of inner strength. My guest this week, Mark West says he believes that  we “all have a runner in us”. Mark is a long distance runner and mental health advocate who is using his platform to not only encourage everyone to adapt a running routine into their life but do so to improve their mental health. Today we learn about a tragic accident that sparked Mark’s passion for running and how fitness was later used to help him when he started struggling with depression and anxiety.  We talk about the metaphor that running represents in mental health, allowing us to literally (and figuratively) put “one foot in front of the other” and view the “hills” in our lives as opportunities for growth. We also talk about what it has been like to be a high achieving male and be so vocal about his mental health when the stigma around men and mental illness is very real.  Mark also shares a POWERFUL insight on why walking and running might be a better option to talk to people who are struggling than “going for a coffee”. He shares about how this journey has opened his eyes to the importance of empathy and the need for us to discover “what works for us”. This was such a profound episode with many insights about mental health and opens the conversation about the variety of ways that we can find healing. However we want to hear from YOU! Why am I talking about gratitude? Why is my tone so upbeat? When there is so much uncertainty in the world, when so many people are afraid, I truly believe this is when gratitude is most important and key to shifting our mindset during all the uncertainty.  This doesn’t mean that the pain doesn’t exist. However when we tap into our gratitude (and there is always something to be grateful for!) it gives us a moment to disconnect from fear. Gratitude is like a blanket of comfort during the darkest of times. Sometimes the outside world is our security. When it seems to be crumbling down, gratitude is what shifts us from a state of stress to a place of calm. Today I walk you through the good we have in our lives right now and how we can (and should) be increasing our gratitude practice.  I also wanted to share with you a story about a woman I met at Walmart and how important it is for us to show kindness and gratitude to those around us. I want to challenge you to be a light when the world seems to be in darkness. Now more than ever we need to be that light. We would love to hear from you! Today we are digging into how we can better understand our emotions, improve our mood, and gain control of our thoughts! We have the perfect person to guide us in this conversation, my friend and incredibly accomplished therapist, Elisheva Liss. Elishiva shares with us about why she was originally drawn to the mental health field and what she has found in her years of research and countless hours spent counseling individuals and couples. She breaks down for us the process of narrative therapy and how we can rewire the way we think and view our ever changing emotions. She shares with us about the “triangle of relationships”, why we should never “gloss over” our emotions, and why there are times that we do NOT need to have “positive” thoughts (instead opt in for “healthy” ones). She also shares with us a few techniques that we can start using today (like the “but” technique!) that will help us to better frame our thoughts and ultimately improve our mood. We end the conversation with a powerful dialogue about relationships and how we can use this information to deepen our connection with not only ourselves but with those we love. In the midst of the coronavirus crisis, I wanted to come to you today and talk about the role of gratitude during this stressful time. Like you, I am balancing work, children, being home, and navigating my own mental health while the world is in a panic. I wanted to share with you how gratitude is helping me get through this difficult time.  Gratitude shifts our energy. Not only individually but it also has an impact on our energy collectively. Even if you just take thirty seconds today to feel gratitude you will make an impact in our collective energy (which we desperately need!). Fear is more dangerous right now than any virus. Now more than ever it is important for us to take care of each other and our own mental health. I also wanted to remind you that anything can change instantly. We have seen how quickly things have shifted to tragedy. In the same sense, I want to present the idea that things can change for the good very quickly as well. We need to remember how lucky we are and how beautiful life was before. Take a look back and embrace how much we had to be grateful for.  We are living in the best time of technology. If you are trying to balance being a mom, a wife, working, and trying to have somewhat of a social life, it can be overwhelming. It may even be tempting to look at someone else’s life and wonder how they are balancing it all so well. Today I had the honor of connecting with the host of the Mom to Wife Plus Life podcast, Jennifer Reed, to hear about her journey of “balancing it all’ while navigating the ups and downs of her and her husband's mental health. Jennifer generously shares with us her story of coming out of a domestic violent marriage, struggling with “mom guilt”, navigating her husband’s PTSD, and also feeling pressure to have everything figured out. She wants to encourage other moms and wives that sometimes “life is hard” and that’s okay! In this episode we talk about why we don’t have to always “fix” what’s broken, learning how to disconnect and be present, the importance of self-care, and why you SHOULD be talking to yourself! In today’s episode of Attitude of Gratitude I want to share a story with you about an incredible act of kindness that I received last week and the ripple effect that it had not only on my life but in the lives of others. I truly believe that random acts of kindness can become extraordinary moments in our lives with powerful lessons within them.  I am starting to feel like one of the luckiest people in the world due to the mentors in my life, and that includes a recent stranger that I met named Kelly, who provided a powerful lesson for me on kindness and gratitude I want to inspire you to go a little further in your gratitude and trace back how kindness has affected many moments along the way and pay it forward. Remember how you felt when you received kindness and pay it forward to someone else. There is so much to be grateful for! We hope this encourages you on your mental health journey! Find us on Facebook at Hope to Recharge! We have an amazing tribe of people who would love to be a support to you.
