Having a growth mindset allows kids to overcome challenges, failures, and mistakes, while maintaining self-confidence and self-love. Additionally, a growth mindset helps kids set, pursue, and achieve their biggest dreams. A growth mindset isn't something that's a given because of it's counterpart, the fixed mindset. A fixed mindset limits kids from believing in themselves by attributing their shortcomings or failures to "just the way they are." With a fixed mindset, kids stay stuck and limit themselves. In this podcast, Natalie Bacon shares five key practical strategies that you can start using with your kids today to help them have a growth mindset. Hello my beautiful friends! This week I'm so excited to welcome back the lovely and incredible Natalie Bacon. Natalie and I came into each other's world between three and four years ago and our friendship has evolved into something I am truly grateful and appreciative for. Natalie is a previous guest of the podcast (find her first episode here) and today we're going to dive into what she has been doing since she was on the podcast in 2018, how she has personally changed since, and how her business has evolved.Natalie is a law school graduate, a CFP, and a graduate of The Life Coach School. She started her journey as a blogger, selling her online courses, and eventually pivoted her business into a life coaching program called Grow You. As a member of Grow You I can tell you first hand, her program is truly transformational. The pivot for Natalie to start offering a membership program versus individual courses was a natural one. She had already grown her business to six-figures and from the beginning knew she was interested in personal development. She pivoted from offering six individual courses to a membership program where she could host all of the courses in one place. This also made it a super easy decision because the price point is so accessible because as long as you're a member of Grow You, you'll receive access to all of the courses Natalie offers. Now, we're into summer of 2021 and Natalie's life has changed immeasurably. She recently got married, moved to Charleston (another commonality in our friendship), and is expecting a baby boy this winter. Her income has also grown from the 100K she made in 2018 to now 625K for the past 12 months. Natalie has also taken a more holistic approach in her business where she is working under 40-hours per week (from home!), and is still able to grow her business and continually help women with mindset. She also is living in a space that she calls,Living in the end.In this space she has learned how to produce twice as much, but in half the time. After spending years living in ‘production mode' this is a beautiful internal balancing act that allows her to really feel relaxed in the present moment. This has been the greatest measure of her growth, even though less quantifiable than say, revenue. This month, Natalie is hosting a 5-day Mindset Reset. From August 23-27, this one-time workshop is something that she has never before offered and I'm so excited to share all of the details with you! Natalie has created this incredible 5-day workshop, where women (men are welcome too, but the content is geared towards women) can get access to coaching tools that they have never experienced before. She teaches how to uncover your thought errors, which is another incredible tool to reconnect the mind with the body. You'll learn how to choose new thoughts and live from those, creating for yourself a new future, rather than creating your future from your past. This 5-day course is packed with so much value and you will not want to miss it. This is an amazing investment of your time and energy and bonus, it is only $19 for full access! If you've ever wanted a peek into what working with a life coach is all about, you will not want to miss this one-time workshop, so make sure you register now to save your seat.Until next week, keep doing it your way. One of the most common questions I get asked when it comes to podcasting is ‘how do I work with sponsors?’ and on today's podcast episode, I'm going to walk you through the three ways on how to make money with your podcast. I’ll also be diving into why sponsorship should be the last way in which you approach making money with your podcast. A few of the questions I hear most often are:How do I make money? How do I work with sponsors? How many downloads do I need? What I'm going to share with you today is my personal opinion after running and producing a podcast since 2015. There are three key ways (buckets) to make money from your podcast. They are:Marketing Your Own Products & ServicesAffiliate MarketingSponsorships Marketing Your Own Products & ServicesDo you sell courses or digital services such as group coaching or copywriting? Market these. Promote them to your listeners and allow them to gain traction with your audience. Spend time building out your own offerings rather than spending hours looking for sponsors. If you don't have a business yet, no worries. If you simply have an idea of the type of business you want to start it doesn't necessarily commit you to figuring out the product right away. If you're clear on the direction you want to go with your business you could set up the content of your podcast to provide value and solutions for the pain points of your audience. What you would do is invite your audience to engage with you beyond the podcast. This could be in the form of a free guide/ download, an offer for a free training, the offer to join a free Facebook group, etc., so that you can really begin to nurture and build that stronger relationship with them before you even try to sell them anything. When you are ready to start selling to them, you’ve already built that ‘Know, Like & Trust’ factor with them. Affiliate MarketingMaybe you don’t have a product or service yet, but you know about a software that would benefit your audience. By sharing a software/ product/ service of someone else's using a unique URL code, you get a piece of that revenue by sharing. This is affiliate marketing. When I first got into online business, I remember learning about affiliate marketing and I thought, ‘oh my god, this is so gross’; and the truth is, you're going to find whatever you look for in life and I think I was looking for that. Now, I look at affiliate marketing and think, ‘okay, this totally makes sense’. The thing I love about affiliate marketing is when you share a product or service with your audience, it's simply the business's way of compensating you. So rather than the company paying for their own marketing, by you sharing their product or service with your audience, they're essentially redirecting that money to you.A great example of this is a few years ago my friend Natalie Bacon had a blogging course. She started her online business blogging about finance and she created a course. I had people in my audience asking me if I could talk about blogging and essentially, I was like, ‘No, I actually can't because I can talk about podcasting’, just not about blogging. So Natalie and I partnered together to do a webinar training for anyone who wanted to learn how to blog. For me it was truly an aligned fit because she taught people how to start a blog, and she was successful at it, and with the podcast I was able to then share with my audience about the free training. Once the training was over Natalie then promoted her (paid) course to all of the attendees and anyone who enrolled in her course using my link, I then received an affiliate commission. An example of a software service that I'm an affiliate of is Podia. If you go to the She Did It Her Way website and look under ‘Start A Business’ you'll see Podia listed. If you click that link, it is an affiliate link. There are two reasons why I promote Podia:I use it personallyI love it These are excellent examples of aligned affiliate marketing and having integrity behind who you partner up with. Affiliate marketing, when you do it right and you do it intentionally, can be lucrative. Lastly, you can certainly be able to create revenue in your business from using affiliate marketing. SponsorshipsSponsorships are a wonderful way to generate revenue and we have generated 1,000s of dollars in sponsorship revenue with the podcast. I am so grateful to be able to have so many of you to tune in and listen to the show, which then allows for brands to reach out to us to say, ‘hey, your audience and what we offer is in line, can we do a partnership?’.There are highs and lows with sponsorships. 95% of the time sponsors and brands have reached out to us, so I wasn't investing my time or energy trying to seek out sponsorships. I think that's something that's really key is that in the beginning, your time is so limited. You should always be assessing our time in terms of ‘if I say yes to one thing, then what am I indirectly saying no to?’. I recommend that the time that you're going to spend reaching out to sponsorships and cultivating that relationship and finding those that are going to sponsor your podcast and instead use those hours and really invest in marketing your own products or services. So the way that I like to look at sponsorship is it's great when it's there and it comes in a supplemental, but it's not the backbone of how I make money. Do we still work with sponsors when it's a good fit and it's aligned? Yes, absolutely. I always want to make sure 1) I am protecting your ears. In our continuing series of mental health in the workplace / entrepreneurship, we meet Natalie Bacon, who pivoted from being a practicing business Attorney, to starting and authoring a blog, to becoming a certified financial planner and finally transitioning to become trained as a full time life coach. She shares her struggles and trauma from growing up with an alcoholic dad whose life revolved around DWI's, being in & out of jail, and his financial consequences, and the trauma of having recently lost her dad with whom she rebuilt her relationship. Often, anxiety, panic and fear of the unknown hold us back when making big decisions, but it is crucial to find self love as the first step to improving our lives and goals. Feeling good when facing obstacles help us to remove the boundaries that we may unwittingly impose on ourselves. Nathalie gives us tremendous tips, techniques and tools to mindset improvement, such as accepting what is, instead of rejecting it, using your brain to bend your current beliefs and finding the upside of the natural human tendency to gravitate to a negative mindset and instead find meaning to our obstacles and accomplish positive change. Matana shares her own real life scenarios of how goal setting and a life coach can help us achieve our desired outcomes when its hard to take that first step and how to identify and plan in advance, for events that challenge us, in order to help us make decisions in those moments and substitute things that challenge our goals with goal enhancing behaviors. Your relationship with money is simply your thoughts about it. You can believe you’ll make any amount of money. Really. Any. So, what are you choosing to believe? Whatever you believe is what you’ll create in the future. If you want to create more money in your future, the way you do that is to believe the thoughts that lead to the feelings and actions that get you that result. You have to stop thinking thoughts that are in opposition to what you want. This is causing you to not get what you want. In this episode, I show you how to do just that. The Wander Wealthy Podcast | Build and Grow Your Money Coaching Business
Natalie Bacon is a personal finance blogger and writes over at Financegirl where she, of course, shares insights on money, but also intentional living, goal setting, being a young professional woman, and blogging. Natalie graduated law school with over $200,000 in student loans, worked in a job that didn't fulfill her, and chose to change up her career for a more fulfilling and satisfying life. Now, Natalie works in personal finance during the day and hustles with her wildly successful blog Financegirl, on the side. In this episode Natalie shares her story with us and I dig in on her insight and advice on student loan debt and repayment. We discuss the difference between consolidating and refinancing and she shares why she won't refinance her own student loan debt. Get more here...
Natalie Bacon grew up thinking she wanted to be a lawyer, but after 4 years in the legal profession she realized she that was not the life she wanted for herself. Deciding to switch careers and become a certified financial planner (as well as a personal finance blogger), Natalie may have taken a major pay cut from her lawyer days, but she is well on her way to making some big money...honey. I also share at the end of this episode that I have just opened a Facebook group for anyone who wants to continue the conversation with other like-minded people. If you want to talk money in a place with no judgement, just encouragement, go to facebook.com/groups/moneylifebalance. Long episode description: As I mentioned to Natalie Bacon during our episode together, her blog The Finance Girl is super empowering. That’s why I just had to reach out to her and get her on my show. Natalie’s story is pretty unique. She always excelled academically and eventually graduated law school with dreams of making big money as a lawyer. After 4 years in the legal field, she was drowning in debt and ready to quit — job or no job waiting for her on the other side. One of the positive things that did come out of her legal career was the realization that she wanted to focus her energy on personal finance. It was her previous job that helped her switch careers into the financial industry, and she is now only one exam away from becoming a certified financial planner. Along the way, she also discovered that she needed a creative outlet for her new passion, which is where her blog The Finance Girl came in. And just two years later, her blog has become a heavy hitter in the personal finance blogosphere (go Natalie!). Here next big goal is to continue to increase her net worth by building her blog into a full-fledged business. Having tasted the lifestyle she could have had if she had continued practicing law, her aim now is to not just manage her money effectively, but to see how much money she can make by doing different things on the side. The idea of side hustling certainly has become a trend on my podcast, but that’s because it really is such a smart idea. I’ve been able to do so many more things with the extra money I’ve made outside of my full-time job, and I can’t wait to see where Natalie’s efforts will take her in the future. Natalie Bacon found herself in this situation -- $206,000 in student loans and a career in law that wasn’t especially rewarding or fulfilling. Her response to the situation: she began to pursue what lit her up and got into fee based financial planning.
