Welcome to the very first episode of Heart Centered Tradesmen!    Last season, we focused on Heart Centered Hustlers but now, we are stepping into the TRADES. In this season, I share tools and techniques to MAXIMIZE your revenue and most importantly, your relationships! And as we hear and learn from leading individuals in the service-based industry, my mission is to help tradesmen (and women!) scale their businesses and hang up their toolbelts early.    Today, I share how I, a therapist turned Digital Marketer, gained equity in a roofing company after taking it from $800k to $2.4m in 14 months all while cutting expenses by $6,500 per month using the NAIL Method.    Too often business owners are sold the lie that increasing revenue is the only way to grow your business. Showing Respect to Our Children (Mental Note)

It's All Mental

When it comes to respecting our children many of us grow up thinking that our kids have to earn our respect, that we can’t just give them respect. But why do we think this way?  Our children have feelings just as we do and are often more sensitive.  We need to make sure we are really looking at our children.  Ask yourself what you know about them, their quirks, their worries, and their interests.  We need to listen to them, we need to see them, and we need to really hear them. We can easily say “oh I heard what my child said,” but did we hear the subtext or what they are feeling or where they are coming from?  We can learn more about them by spending one on one time with them.  When I talk about one on one time, I don’t mean just taking them somewhere fun, but sitting with them, and listening to them more than talking to them.  These things show we care and allow us an insight into their lives. -- Topics Discussed: How well do you know your children? When it comes to choosing the correct mate we often don’t put in the work to see the person for who they truly are, and instead, look through rose-colored glasses.  We can sometimes choose to ignore red flags or things that concern us, or we think that the red flags will go away after we get married or that we can change them.  But these are dangerous assumptions to make and get us in trouble later on. We all have experienced some level of trauma, from moderate to severe, and that trauma can cause us to operate from a place of denial.  When we do this we make situations sound better than they are and deny what is truly going on.  We have to remember that potential mates will show up as a representative of themselves and only show the best parts.  This is why it’s important to really look closely and objectively when evaluating someone as a possible mate. Finally, we wrap up today’s episode with putting yourself first, and why it is so vital that you make yourself a priority.  It is easy to feel guilty for doing this, but there are many reasons why we need to stop and ask ourselves what we want, and what we need.   -- Topics Discussed: How trauma affects our decision process. The idea that recreating spatial and sensory relationships that are familiar increases the health, well-being and happiness of our residents because their minds and bodies are intrinsically connected to the spaces in which they liveFamiliarity = decrease in anxiety = increase in positive health outcomes = better quality of lifeDeciding to move from the comfort of your home into a Modern Elders or Senior Living community is an emotional oneRecognition is essential for comfort in any space, especially for Boomers whom are smart consumers; they know what they want and expect excellence - Providing that high level of excellence, going beyond just surface appointments and “bling”, involves design thinking that is outside the boxSenior Living should be seen as a reward, not a consolation - How does the shape and character of Kasian’s design philosophy deliver?Threading sensory design through all senior living work starts with a deep understanding of the end usersResponsive senior living communities offer exactly what your users want and need, not just what is trendyWhat works in New York will not work as well in Phoenix; Likewise, what works in Scottsdale will not work as well in Tempe – two suburbs of PhoenixDesign should start with a lot of research, interviews, focus group discussions and study of existing communities, preferably, one-on-one interviewsUnderstanding begins with relationships, meeting people, hearing their stories, understanding their vision for what their dream senior living community looks and feels likeChristine's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christine-weber-craik/

64 - Allowing Ourselves to Heal When it comes to healing and taking time to take care of ourselves, we often roll over ourselves.  We sometimes put on the brave face and stick to our resilience rather than admitting we need to allow ourselves time to be human and heal. In this episode, I talk about how we have to be aware of ourselves when we have bad days or when we are disappointed in ourselves.  We can be strong, but we still bleed, we still hurt, and we have to show ourselves kindness.  We deserve to be kind to ourselves, and we need to be kind because often we are the only ones that show us kindness.   We would love to hear your thoughts on today’s episode! As the end of 2020 nears, Matana reflects back on the changes, growth and hurdles that we've seen and learned from. Inspired from the positive moments, we focus on the power of resilience and our commitment to keeping this attribute a constant thread in the fabric that weaves us. The year was filled with unstoppable curves in the road of our normal and regular and we've all had to adapt and not be brought down. Refocusing our mantra to, "And that's ok", is a message learned from Ari's mentor, and Matana recognizes the power of this message, as a tool of flexibility to getting through moments that we thought impossible. Critical decisions at times of challenge define our durability and the stuff of what we are made of and 2020 brought us face to face with our challenges. Rigidity doesn't serve us well during crisis and in this episode, we review the beauty of mindset keeping us on the straight track to positive mental health. As we all know, sharing can help others. We are here to support each other and to learn from each other. In mental health, Together is better. If you need more support in your mental health journey please reach out to us in our private Facebook group. We also offer free 30-minute fitting calls for our coaching program. You do not have to walk through your mental health struggle alone. Because as always, together is better! ————————————————————————— As we enter the holiday season, Matana rediscovers her year, recounting the blessing of having experienced a year devoted to gratitude. She highlights how she chose to be in the moments that are phenomenal, chose to highlight the gratitude moments and chose to live with an open, grateful heart. She shares how we can all invite miracles to our lives by focusing on the constant practice of gratitude, and coming to peace with things that didn’t go our way. A key strategy she shares is how she decided to undertake starting and ending the day with a smile, despite the challenges of that day, the hurt, pain or disappointment, and focus on gratitude, which allowed her to see miracles throughout the year. Matana introduces us to her “Gift of Light” special program, where she offers her listeners the option of working with her 1 on 1, over 8 sessions. This offer only has a small amount of slots open and is available for a limited time. The program is custom tailored to each individual and she will share her tools and techniques on topics she has implemented, such as gratitude, forgiveness, positive mindset and self love. In today’s episode, I sat down with Stormii Knights and Tamika Archie of NuVysion Media Group to discuss their latest production and why they are passionate about sharing stories that address difficult topics. “Behind Closed Doors” touches on a myriad of taboo subjects, from domestic violence to human trafficking.  We talk about the struggles they faced in putting together a production team from scratch and what it was like filming scenes that re-enacted similar episodes that had happened to them. In today’s show, we dig into the mental health aspects of retelling these stories and how we can navigate our own self-care as storytellers. “The map is not the territory.” Meaning, the path is not reflected realistically on paper. There are twists, turns, and bumps in the road to success.  As a retailer, you know starting and running a creative business is anything but running down a simple checklist one-by-one. While there isn’t necessarily a map to get from point A to point B, there is value in understanding where you’re at with your business to more easily take the steps to get where you want to go. And there is tremendous value in having a community that has already walked the path at your side. In the Inner Circle group coaching community, we spend a lot of time focused on the tactics important to each member’s stage step-by-step. So, my friend, I want you to take a breath and embrace where you are on the journey.  Embrace that things are not linear.  Let go of that anxiety and stress that has your shoulders up at your ears thinking you need to know what happens in the next six steps.  I hope this episode provides you that little “a-ha” or some sense of relief. All this month, we will be digging into the topic of mental health in the workplace. I get asked all the time about how we can deal with the ups and downs of work while navigating our own personal lives and what we can do to balance all life’s demands while staying mentally healthy. We are kicking off this conversation by speaking with online entrepreneur and speaker, Maley Jaxx, who in just a few short years transitioned from her career to being in the public eye with her very popular brand and online presence. During all of this professional change, she was also experiencing a very difficult time in her personal life as her marriage was coming to an end. Marley generously walks us through this season of her life where she had to focus on her business all while grieving the loss of a marriage. She shares with us about the decisions she has continually made to protect her mental health and her dedication to her vision despite the difficulty of walking through so many emotions. Sometimes life hits us HARD when we least expect it. We hope that these conversations encourage you to stay mentally strong and prepared emotionally to walk through crises in the best way possible. Often trauma that we have experienced in the past can lay quiet for quite some time, and then it builds up over time until it spills out and wrecks our lives.  It does this by lowering our self-esteem, causing us to have low boundaries, distrust, failed relationships, and more. It can even make us believe that receiving abuse is normal. But it is so important to realize that it is not normal.  We have to work through the past trauma with someone who can help us realize that what has maybe been our normal, is not normal and why we need to change our outlook on abuse and trauma in order to rise above it.   Even if you think that you don’t have any trauma, there may still be underlying things that you have forgotten about.  In addition, sometimes we think the trauma has not affected us, and we are doing fine, but trauma will always come out in some way, maybe not today, but it will come out if not dealt with. Spiritual trauma is trauma that ensued while attending a religious function or anywhere you get fed spiritually.  Trauma that comes from these places usually stems from abuse, and often abuse of power.  As a result, it can destroy your relationship not just with the people there at the facility, but with your relationship with your higher power.  It can cause you to question yourself and whether you did something wrong, and even push you away from your faith. Spiritual trauma sadly takes place far too often within the confines of spiritual places.  It is very important to not self-blame during these times but to seek out help from a third not-partisan party to help you through this time.  But don’t hold it inside and allow it to cause you to doubt your faith or who you are. Seek out help from someone outside your facility and get help.   It can be more shaming when the abuse stems from this place that we look to for guidance and that we trust, but it is far more common than you think and you are not alone. Imposter syndrome is when we know what we are doing, but doubt creeps in and tries to tell us that we are inadequate to do the task.  Often it comes in as nervousness, anxiety, and fear.  It can be crippling if we allow it because it can keep us from asking. The thing is, we have to take a step back and evaluate, realizing that we are fully capable, that we have prepared for the task at hand, and have the necessary skills and training in order to pursue and go after the thing that is before us. Often this can be as simple as deep breathing and recenter ourselves.  This allows us to realize that often it is just our nerves that are firing up, which can be a good thing, as it can keep us on our toes, and helps us do the best we can. Her book gave me so much clarity in my journey of learning about grief, and I am excited to introduce you to Maria, who is a successful meteorologist, mother, and has a powerful story that you will not soon forget. Today we talk about why Maria and her husband were honest from the very beginning with their young three-year-old son about the fatal cancer diagnosis that his father had. She shares with us how we as parents can navigate difficult conversations with children in a language that they will understand. She also retells a powerful story about advice that Joe Biden gave her about his experience with grief. We dig into the grief of receiving a diagnosis,  how we can hold on to hope through pain, and what it looks like to balance ‘hoping for the best’ and letting go. Maria also gives fantastic insight on how to be a support to a loved one who is passing all why finding support as a caregiver so you are not left depleted.  Maria shares that this journey is one that she can look back on with gratitude and we hope that as you navigate your own grief journey her words bring you hope. In addition we have to set ourselves up for success, this includes having the proper resources on hand not only for the person struggling, but also for ourselves.  And also setting goals.  What do we want to accomplish, where do we want to be, and taking that hard look at ourselves and being honest with what is going on. I had the honor of interviewing her two beautiful daughters to discuss this very vulnerable topic of grief and hear how they have navigated through the process of losing someone so special to them. We not only hear about the story of their mom, and what it was like losing her but we also hear their perspective about what they have learned through this experience and how they are using it to inform their day to day life and welcome gratitude in. We hope that this conversation sheds a hopeful light on grief and gives you the tools to overcome any grief that you may be experiencing. Intuition Vs. Insecurity

It's All Mental

How do you differentiate between intuition and integrity?  Intuition is that inner voice that we sometimes try to ignore and as a result of ignoring it, that voice continues to prod us until we listen and only then do we start to gain peace. When we start to feel fear, it is usually insecurity creeping its head out.  Usually insecurities come from past experiences we have gone through.  When it comes to being able to discern between intuition and insecurity it requires us to have a pretty good level of trust, so we can step back and evaluate what is really happening rather than responding from a place of fear and not being able to really evaluate. When we throw other relationships in the mix and are asking ourselves whether we are following our intuition or giving in to insecurities, it is very important to have honest discussions with the other person, and to actively listen so we really hear what is being told us, not what we assume is happening. The good news is that yes, this is going to get better. This is only temporary. Our guest this week helps us define those moments in which we are able to focus on our our personal recovery through connecting with others. In this week’s episode, I am speaking with Reanna DeGeorge, the Clinical Trainer for Positive Recovery Centers. Reanna shares with us the importance of connection and how it relates to the success of personal recovery. We discuss the explanatory style in which those in recovery often describe their perspectives and how we can shift the focus of addiction towards positive actions. Join us this week as we discuss how to shift our self-narrative around addiction as well as why it’s important to have one-on-one connections and a strong community. Topics Discussed How gratitude helps your overall well being Understanding and identifying the explanatory style through personal recovery Why positive recovery isn’t just about being “positive” all the time The importance of relationships and connectivity Why we should view addiction as a disease rather than a moral issue --- Today’s Positive Intervention Journal about a trauma or difficulty that you have experienced and learned form. We offer a full continuum of care, from medical detox to sober living all supported by an ever-growing alumni community network. Our evidence-based curriculum blends the best of the old with the new, all supporting our mission: that Recovery is best pursued when meaningful, intentional positive habits are formed through empowerment and resilience instead of negativity and shame.  What is Positive Recovery? Empathy and compassion drive our mission. Positive Recovery uses strengths as a pathway to help others flourish in recovery, at work, and at home. This is our core purpose, our “why.” We creatively apply science in order to improve outcomes. Positive Recovery is not wishful thinking, it is not a magic pill, and it is not self-help. Positive Recovery is an evidence-based addiction curriculum that links the best of the old with the new, integrating existing effective approaches to treatment with interventions that enhance well-being by cultivating its components: positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and achievement. Quotes: Dr. Jason Powers “It’s not good to be optimistic if the risk of failure is high.” “Happiness isn’t something that you sort of do once.” Reanna DeGeorge “The main thing with addiction treatment is connection. Many people who relapse in the recovery world are because they’re not able to have connection.” “Oftentimes when patients are in active addiction, their explanatory style is usually more negative, so to them, it seems like life will always be like this way and things won’t ever get better. But, being able to identify early recovery, you begin to realize that this is temporary. this is going to get easier and better.

When I think I can’t achieve something I stop myself and switch my thinking to, I can achieve this.  Our words and our thoughts have so much power to affect not just our mindset, but to affect the physical around us.  I truly believe there are three parts to manifestation.  The first is thinking about it.  We have to think it in our minds.  The second is believing it.  We have to believe it will happen.  And third we have to say it, to actually speak it.  These three things can help make things a reality.   This is a process and it takes time to develop the habits of manifestation.  In this episode I want to introduce to you the idea of manifestation and walk you through how to begin making it a reality in your own life.  I personally practice this and can assure you that manifestation brings amazing results.   Please connect with us in our private Facebook Group: It’s All Mental Podcast. Many people come to me looking for a quick fix to resolve some of their mental health struggles. The first thing I always ask them, regardless of their situation is, "Do you know you are worthy of being healed?" More often than not, they respond, "I don't know." This month, we have been talking exclusively about the idea of loving yourself and being your own advocate. The deeper I go into my own healing journey, The more convinced I become that this is the first step and foundation of true mental wellness. However many of us have never been taught or developed the SKILL of putting ourselves first and practicing regular self-care. In today's solo episode, I share with you my own self-love practice and break down many myths surrounding loving and accepting yourself. Until we practice self-love it is VERY hard to heal and we have to learn to accept ourselves FULLY, even in the midst of deep pain. I break down my morning routine, weekly "thank you" gifts to myself, and how these small acts can champion the deep inner healing that many of us are seeking. We also talk about how to be more self-aware and recognize when we are saying “no” to ourselves too often and “yes” too much to others. I also want you to know that we never "arrive" and will always be learning and growing in this area. We would love to be your support system as you practice self love! Find us in our private community "Hope to Recharge" by searching for us on Facebook. Also if you have your own self- love practices we would love to hear them! Instead, a love of food, service and academia led her to start studying wine instead. She moved to New York City in 2014 to accept a sommelier position with Le Bernardin, a three-star Michelin restaurant helmed by Chef Eric Ripert. During her time at the restaurant, she earned her Advanced Sommelier diploma, and is currently a candidate for the Master Sommelier diploma. She was also featured in the third installment of the popular Somm films. Above all else, her time in the restaurant industry taught her the true value of hospitality and communication, and the ability for food and service to create lasting experiences and memories for others.  In 2018, she and Derek Wallace co-founded Kalamata’s Kitchen, a brand which introduces kids to the world and to new experiences through adventures with food. By centering a child’s experience of exploration around lovable characters like Kalamata and her stuffed alligator pal Al Dente, children are invited to be more curious, courageous, and compassionate people by understanding the world through food. Combining her passions for service, literature, food, and teaching children, Kalamata’s Kitchen is the true nexus of all of Sarah’s interests and goals. As co-founder and author, she will lead the partnership with Penguin Random House to release a new series of books, as well as with Imagine Entertainment for an animated series. This month we are talking about the practice of self-love. In theory you may be drawn to the idea of implementing self-care routines and learning to love yourself, however it is often  more difficult to practice than we anticipate. Sometimes it is easy to compare yourself to others and be your own worst critic. Today I have the honor of introducing you to Dr. Jane Tornatore who shares with us her own journey of letting go of perfectionism and learning to love her-self despite all the “imperfections” that she saw. Dr. Tornatore is a therapist and author and helps her clients reframe how they view “healing” and helps them rewrite unhealthy belief systems. She challenges the notion that there is anything inherently “wrong” with us and encourages us to lean more into who we are and love ourselves unapologetically. Today we break down how we can find the courage to be more human, understand the deep rooted belief patterns that we developed as children and how they are affecting us today, and understand where judgment of ourselves and others comes from. I know that you will love this interview as much as I enjoyed talking with Dr. Tornatore. We hope that these tips empower you to begin the practice of loving yourself and if you are already on the journey of self-compassion we hope this amplifies your efforts, because you are worth it. As mothers we are always putting others before ourselves and serving our families in ways that often go unseen. We are also wearing many other hats and putting ourselves continually on the back-burner and sometimes even neglecting our own mental health.  Today we have the honor of hearing from Dr. Claire Nicogossian as she shares with us how we can practice proper self-care as mommas and why it is so vitally important. Dr. Claire Nicogossian is a clinical psychologist, author, and mother of four girls. She knows first hand the stress that comes with motherhood and she is able to couple that along with her knowledge of psychology to help moms practice self-compassion.  In this episode, we dive into the different layers of being a mom, how we can properly cope with stress, not feel guilty practicing self-care, and how to put our mental health as a priority. We also discuss how to move past feelings of “unworthiness” and why there is no measure of worth for the work that we do as moms. Dr. Claire encourages us that it is OKAY to have feelings of overwhelm and what you are experiencing as a mom may be more common than you think. She gives us some helpful advice on how we can deal with our “shadow” emotions and why we must communicate with our loved ones what our boundaries are. We hope this episode encourages you to practice self-care and show compassion for yourself as a mother. We are here for you and would love to connect in our private Facebook group: Hope to Recharge.
