If you are on the autism spectrum, or know or suspect your spouse may be, intimacy and communication may present challenges. In this episode, Talli and Rabbi Scott speak with Tzippora Price, an expert on neurodivergent couples, to learn more. They identify some of the behaviors associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as some challenges that may occur when one spouse is neurodivergent (and whether these problems can likely be avoided if both spouses have ASD). They also address  problems unique to Orthodox Jews on the spectrum, how these issues affect a couple's sex life, and some mechanisms for overcoming these challenges.

Talli Yehuda Rosenbaum is an individual and couple therapist and currently certified as a sex therapist  and sex therapy supervisor by International Associates of Psychosexual Therapists (IAPST) and is a certified as a sex therapist by the Israeli Society for Sex Therapy (ISST). She is co-author with Dr. David Ribner of the book “I am For My Beloved: A Guide to Enhanced Intimacy for Married Couples.”  and co-editor with Dr. Anna Padoa of  the Springer textbook entitled “The Overactive Pelvic Floor.” She has authored over 40  journal articles and several book chapters  on trauma, sexual pain disorders, sexual health, unconsummated marriage, and sexuality and Judaism and is an associate editor of the Sexual Medicine Reviews. In a palatial South London home, a pained scream rang out into the night. As the residents of the home rushed to the aid of the man who had called out, the only thing they could do was watch whilst he writhed in pain. After the maid was sent to grab mustard and hot water to assist his gripe, it was plain to see that he'd been poisoned as his hands helplessly tried to calm his burned throat and everyone in the room knew that whatever happened next would be incredibly painful for him. After 3 agonising days, the man passed away but everyone who was in the house on the night of the poisoning was now a suspect and with the man having many an enemy, the murder case would unfold to become one of the Victorian Era's most shocking and scandalous whodunnits. In the Victorian era in London, the city sat under a black shroud. The capital was in mourning for a lost monarch and its residents were ushered under the wing of sadness to join in with the bereft queen. As this sadness swept the nation, the resulting impact had a strange effect. Pair this with the recent industrial revolution which could make items faster and also had a habit of sending workers to an early grave, a whole industry was created which serviced those who had been touched by deaths' boney hands or more importantly, those it left behind. At 6:52 on the 19th of January 1917, an event would occur which would change an area of London for decades after, irreparably damaging it. A munitions factory in the heart of the bustling industrial area of Silvertown had hastily replaced the production line of a former caustic soda factory and was now in the hands of people who didn't know what they were doing with such a dangerous material. With world war one dragging on and driving the country into an ammunition shortage, England created several huge munitions factories to deal with the crises and over the period of 3 years, 3 of them would be reduced to smouldering ruins when their stock exploded. Have you ever struggled to have a conversation about mental health in the workplace? It can be hard for both employees and leaders to know how to have these conversations. If you've ever had a bad boss, you're not alone. But what are the qualities of a good boss? After October 7th, Jews around the world have felt besieged by some erstwhile allies, as some have been silent in the face of rampant antisemitism, and others have openly supported Hamas and its genocidal goals. While there have been many who openly support Jews and Israel, the war in Gaza has also provided a moment of reckoning as we discovered some unhappy surprises about people we thought were our friends. A good example is the reaction to October 7th by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists, or AASECT. As an organization dedicated to healthy sexuality, and one which has expressed opinions on hot button issues unrelated to its core mission, AASECT certainly should have issued a statement condemning the sexual violence against Israelis on October 7th. That, however, didn't happen for a long time – and even when it did, the statement felt like a giant hedge. As a result, Talli Rosenbaum and some colleagues resigned from AASECT. In this crossover episode with the Orthodox Conundrum, Rabbi Scott Kahn interviewed Talli, psychotherapist Dr. Shoshana Bulow, and sexual educator Dr. Logan Levkoff about some of the ways that the AASECT debacle is, unfortunately, representative of trends that are emerging in the United States. They also discussed the trauma of October 7th and the war both in and out of Israel, as well as the binary thinking that has led to the demonization of Jews, the prevalence of antisemitism, agendas that are embedded in the system to the Jewish people's detriment, the fight against anti-Israel activity across the diaspora, and more.

Talli Rosenbaum, an individual, couples and certified sex therapist, who deals mainly with human relationships, and in particular, intimate relationships, joins us in this eye opening episode that confronts a controversial topic that needs exploration. Suppressed and overt traumas of all kinds can be often be triggered and revealed in intimate and personal sexual situations. Even more, one's first sexual experience in of itself, can be perceived as a traumatic event, if conversation, mutual expectations, assumptions and desires are not properly addressed in advance.Intimacy and the dynamics between marriage partners have been a taboo subject in the orthodox world.
