This week on Your Health First we are talking physical therapy. You need to invest in your physical strength, balance, and agility as we age. Alison Teheng, from Burcutt Physical Therapy and Wellness Center, was our special guest. We reflected on the need to seriously take stock in our own strength and how it impacts on our long-term health and wellness, and what you can do to delay or prevent the onset of chronic disease.Alison gives numerous good tips and insight on strategies we need to think about. As we like to say, you don't want to start investing in your health once chronic disease sets in. You need to be 10 to 20 years ahead of chronic diseases to make sure that you do all that you can to avoid them.Where to find Dr. Joe Galati and his team:Dr. Galati's newsletter sign-upMedical Practice: Liver Specialists of TexasDr. Galati's Book Site: Eating Yourself SickFacebook: Dr. Joe GalatiDr. Galati's YouTube ChannelPlease send feedback and suggestion. Over the past several weeks, we have been highlighting the connection between fatty liver and heart disease. This is a topic that we feel is not receiving enough discussion. The majority of individuals with fatty liver suffer from a constellation of disorders which is called metabolic syndrome. Within metabolic syndrome, patients have truncal obesity, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and high cholesterol or triglycerides. This particular risk profile put you at high risk for the development of fatty liver but also for serious heart disease.Patients with fatty liver have a far more aggressive form of heart disease, with the increased risk of fatal complications in the event of a heart attack. In many cases, both the patient and primary care physicians underestimate the cardiovascular risk associated with fatty liver disease and unfortunately ignore these risk factors. This past week's episode of Your Health First highlighted this discussion. We had Dr. Mazen Noureddin, an expert in fatty liver and fatty liver research, as well as Dr. Randeep Suneja, and acclaimed cardiologist here in Houston. Together they outlined the nature of the public health risk, and steps to take to combat it.Where to find Dr. Joe Galati and his team:Dr. Galati's newsletter sign-upMedical Practice: Liver Specialists of TexasDr. Galati's Book Site: Eating Yourself SickFacebook: Dr. Joe GalatiDr. Galati's YouTube ChannelPlease send feedback and suggestion. This past week on our weekly radio show, Your Health First, our special guest was Dr. Joseph Rogers, the new President and CEO of the world famous Texas Heart Institute located in the Texas Medical Center. During the interview, we asked Dr. Rogers a number of questions about heart disease and what the average consumer needs to know.Topics we talked about include understanding risk factors for heart disease, understanding the new American Heart Association guidelines for the control of high blood pressure, the role of statins and their safety, as well as being familiar with symptoms you may have that are associated with serious heart problems. He also discussed the need to know your cholesterol, even at an early age, say 20 years old. The better you understand personal risk factors, the sooner lifestyle changes can be adjusted, medical interventions can be made, and your overall health, wellness, and survival can benefit.#americanheart #hearthealth #highbloodpressure #cholesterol #texasheartinstitute #heartattack #talkradio #iheartradioWebsites to remember:Dr. Galati's newsletter sign-upMedical Practice: Liver Specialists of TexasDr. Galati's Book Site: Eating Yourself SickFacebook: Dr. Joe GalatiDr. Galati's YouTube ChannelPlease send feedback and suggestion. So here we are in August 2021, and we are still talking about the COVID-19 pandemic. Just when we thought we would be getting our lives back under control, the delta variant emerged. The initial excitement about the vaccine has waned, and we are once again seeing a surge of cases in our hospitals and intensive care units. There continues to be confusion about wearing masks, how we conduct ourselves in public, what is the real story on breakthrough cases in those that have been previously vaccinated, and how do we addressed those that simply are not interested in getting vaccinated? Unfortunately, the public health experts that we rely on, as well as our political leaders, are finding it more and more difficult to provide the general public with a coherent set of recommendations and guidelines that we can live by. This inconsistent messaging only feeds the fire of noncompliance, and of course, more cases and the potential for more deaths. This week on our weekly radio program, Your Health First, it was a pleasure to have back on Dr. David Pate. Following his long tenure at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston's Texas Medical Center, he relocated to Idaho where he was president and CEO of the St. Luke's Health System. Recently retired, he has done an excellent job of articulate what we need to know regarding COVID-19, the vaccine, and what we should all be thinking about. I highly suggest all of you subscribe to his blog, and follow his thoughts each week.#covid #civid19 #covid19vaccine #coronavirus #pandemicWebsites to remember:Dr. Galati's newsletter sign-upMedical Practice: Liver Specialists of TexasDr. Galati's Book Site: Eating Yourself SickFacebook: Dr. Joe GalatiDr. Galati's YouTube: YouTube ChannelPlease send feedback and suggestion. This week on Dr. Galati‘s weekly radio program, Your Health First, he interviewed Dr. Sudha Kodali, a partner of his at Houston Methodist Hospital. They discussed the underlying risk factors for liver cancer, the need to know your liver test results, and not ignore subtle abnormalities of you are liver chemistries. One of the growing public health concerns that we have been speaking about for years is related to the global obesity epidemic which resulted in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, a leading cause of liver cancer. Left untreated, liver cancer is universally fatal.
