Fast and the furious, continues its reign; in these films about family, cars and impossible death defying stunts, all which make me laugh out loud which each new release!
Critics, Critics, Critics you guys might wholly have this wrong The Super Mario Movie should not be sitting below a 60% on rotten tomatoes. A star studded cast includes Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Seth Roge; directed by duo Aaron Horath and Michael Jelenic. A very safely made film and with all types of Mario easter eggs and the worlds from various games, I truly think this movie was decent and did justice to the series. I didn't even expect the voice acting to work and yet it did, so let's flesh out more of the Super Mario film with the entire crew.
If anything can be made into a movie, from a board game Dungeons and Dragons is definitely the most fitting to be made into a big blockbuster budget film. No concrete storyline and no solidified main characters; this property can essentially mold itself into a story plot for the film and as long as it holds core Dungeons and Dragon lore it can absolutely work. Starring Christ Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and a number of other great stars and directed by the directing team John Francis Daley and Johnathan Goldstein, this film is something better than I could have expected, and our team agrees let's get into it.
John Fucking Wick! Get this man a gun! And the title of best action franchise in maybe the last 10 years. John Fucking Wick I don't even know if this episode will give justice to how fucking fantastic this film is. And absolutely this is me riding the fuck out of this film Starring Kenu Revees, Lawrance fishburn, Ian Mcshane, Donnie Yen and so many many more. Directed by Chad Stahelski in what may be one of the best action direct movies in a long time that used little to no CGI, killing it with this film. Alvin Jess and Jariel are here so we can all talk about John Wick 4.
In what has to be the greatest and if not easily top 5 greatest video game adaptation, the Last of Us by Neil Druckman created by the HBO production team; starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. This is the bar that should be set for all studios that want to pick up video game adaptations; because this show is in a league of its own for best video game adaptations; with some honorable mentions being shows like Castlevania and League of Legends:Arcane; It definitely takes the cake in the live action category. This show did things no other video game adaptation has done, and possibly to a fault, but it's damn near perfect. The Blackroom crew gathers today to discuss the best video game adaptation on streaming right now, The last of US
It's been such a long time since we have been here guys, and we are so happy to be back and ready to continue to bring movies and show reviews to you guys! To start us back up we watched Shazam fury of the Gods, Starring Zachary Levi DC's latest superhero movie before they go into full reboot mode and 65 Starring Adam Driver; a sci fi thriller that falls short of the thrilling part, as we deep dive into both these films performances. Alvin; Jess and my co host Jariel come together with myself to get right back to reviewing films. Let's get right to it!
It's the biggest thing on television this year without a doubt or hesitation. This series should receive a number of emmys from the actors performances, to the effects of the show to the stories script. I'm talking about House of the Dragon, a Game of Thrones story. This show just single handley revitalized The Game of Thrones name postseason 7 and 8 which caused fans to turn from the series. This show was such a big talking point for everyone, my friends and I included that we came together as a group on the Dork n Stuff podcast, Carl from the Jp and Carl Podcast and our entire Black Room Reviews team to talk about this series and how it just changed the game in television. Let's talk about it!
We Are Back! Sorry for the short Lay off, we've had some changes to the podcast that required us to take a moment, make some adjustments and alterations in order for us to get back into recording in a more consistent fashion as well as fill in for the change in the podcast guests. We will let you know some of those updates in the episode of the podcast. In the meantime look forward to discussing, one of the coolest shows to have dropped by Netflix in quite some time Cyberpunk 2077: Edge Runner, netflix newest and very well made anime series, based on a game similar to the released League of Legends Arcane series a few months back. Jariel co-host along with myself and we bring in our guest and awesome Friend Collin to discuss how this series impacted the fan-base and newbies toward this Cyberpunk series! Let's get into it!
A film that was so great, yet not given the cinema treatment, it is beyond deserving of. I am speaking of the surprisingly great film, that just revitalized an iconic monster in Predator, we are talking Prey directed by Dan Trachtenburg, starring our new favorite heroin in Alien based monster films next to Ripley from Alien, Amber Midthunder as Naru of the Comanche nation. This is by far one of the best monster sci fi films in a long time and it deserves all of its praise. I watched this film three times and loved every second of it. The predator was captivating and intimidating, the setting fit the aesthetic and the theme of hunter vs hunted. And who would have thought a sci-fi period piece was what we all needed in our lives to reintegrate the predator creature back into popularity. Alvin Jariel and myself discuss our new favorite sci fi film of the year!
Usually on an episode, all participants watched the film that we would be discussing at hand, and then we talked. Unfortunately I was not able to catch bodies bodies bodies, but Alvin and Jess have so we will still be talking about it, from the perspective of someone who hasn't watched it and those who have. We will also have a small review about the newly released Dragon ball Super Super hero anime film that came out this past weekend as well. So let's get right into it guys!
One hell of an action film, that's one way to describe this film. It was almost like a small take of Smokin Aces, Kill Bill, and a number of other creative assassin based movies released over the years. Bullet Train, Starring Brad Pitt, based on the japanese film original. I truly loved this film, it's not some amazing work of film art; or anything Oscar worthy, but this movie had me excited, and gave me a good time throughout the entirety of its run time. I truly enjoyed every second of this film, the characters, the scenarios and so much more. Alvin Jess and myself come together to discuss a new guilty pleasure of ours; bullet Train!
Two Shows on this podcast review, with two very different reactions. We couldn't possibly have had an episode with two totally opposite reactions to a double feature review. Ms Marvel the most recent Disney Plus Original, and Resident Evil, the adaptation personally made by Netflix. One we actually felt was relatively decent for a character with no extensive popularity, and one so extensively popular because of its history of being the most popular horror game of all time. Resident Evil is laughably bad, and Ms Marvel is surprisingly good, come with us to unravel why that is!
NOPE! Is the exact thing I would be saying, and walking my ass away; if I saw a flying saucer in the sky Sucking shit off the ground and flying away. NOPE! Directed by Jordan Peele, starring Daniel Kaluya, and Keke Palmer as they try to run their struggling horse ranch, after the passing of their father. Weird things occur as horse go Missing and sky formations are shifting in weird ways, which eventually leads them to catching a UFO in the sky, and hoping they can catch it on film to make money from the “Oprah Shot” but you know things can never go as planned. Alvin Jess and myself discussed this third installment of the famous Jordan Peele Thrillers!
The Boys, if this isn't the standard for one of the most hilarious, gruesome and funniest superhero shows, with the best storylines and characters, with the best development, I do not know how else you could measure greatness for a superhero show. Starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, and erin Moriarty; as well as a number of other Stellar actors that I could be here all night listing their names. The Boy's has to be my favorite superhero show produced, possibly more than the netflix version of Daredevil and the Punisher, we discuss this show today, as well as Marvel's newest film starring Chris Hemworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and more, directed by Taika Watiti, where Thor goes on a journey to discover the cause of the death of godly friends of his, where he will come to clash with the MCU version of the safest way to put an atheist on Screen, Gorr The God butcher. We have a full house tonight, our crew Alvin and Jess, Carl from the JP and Carl Podcast, and Lou and Will Representing the dorks and stuff podcast!
Kenobi The Series, on Disney Plus; This show has caused such a divisive split in the fandom of Star Wars. People hate it, loving it and many in the middle, many impatient with its pacing and others wanting more. People have been unsatisfied with their expectations, and many feel like it was well done and helped understand the character more. Alvin and I delve deep in to our feelings of this series as we discuss should it have even been made in the first place, let's get into it!
Do not Sleep on Lightyear! I'm telling you right now; it may not be the best pixar film but it is definitely not it's worst and the review bombing for this film is solely unwarranted. Black Phone felt a little underwhelming. I really thought this film would easily put me into a fear induced coma, unfortunately I'm still here, well and active. It felt like a hype built up for me that wasn't reached and it left me high and dry for the film. The crew and I are here to Discuss Lightyear, directed by Angus Mclain, starring Chris Evans, as well as The Black Phone Directed by Scott Dereckson, starring Ethan Hawkins. We have a lot to talk about so let's jump into it!
Why? why, Do they feel the need to continue making these films? I just do not understand, Jurassic World Dominion directed by Colin Trevorrow, starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and the original Trio of the Jurassic Park Trilogy. The Dinosaurs are still the stars of the show, and the humans have the most bland incoherent story lines you could possibly imagine. I wish these movies could be better, but literally every time a new one comes out it does not fail to disappoint.
Two of Television media's best stylized shows with deep messages behind each episode masked in Comedy, drama, and action. Love Death and Robots with the anthology style animation; and Atlanta with a very heavy cohesive but Anthology style of storytelling, both mirroring human experiences and themes, throughout the entirety of their run. While these shows are not everyone's cup of tea, no one can deny their creativity, the messages they portray to their audiences and more.
A24, I mean, what in the hell did you guys put on the screen in front of me with this Film! Men, directed by Alex Garland, follows a woman named Harper Marlow, who vacations to a countryside airbnb, to escape for a moment after her life is thrown into tragedy due to her husband's death. To only have Harper realize she is in an estranged environment ran by someone or something that is following her and terrorizing her due to these events.
In one of the most touching period pieces I've seen in a little while, and directed by a New yorker, of Puerto Rican heritage, and a personal favorite film music composer Lin Manuel Miranda. Today we are discussing TIK TIk Boom! Starring Andrew Garfiel, who is going through a very good acting renaissance for himself, gaining a strong support system from the fans, since his supporting role in No Way Home! Continuing to impress as he grows more as an actor and showing he is more then the “Amazing Spider-man” flops that Sony Produced. Tik Tik Boom follows the story of famed musical Playwright Jonathan Larson, and his struggles trying to breakthrough to Broadway with his first work Superbia in which he never got to develop, but would lead to his later success. This film is touching, and great, and honestly Best leading Role that Went to Will Smith, might've really should have gone to Andrew for his performance of Johnathan Larson.
One thing that I am a complete and utter fanboy for is a revenge story. I absolutely love a good revenge story. Alongside that I am a fan of all Viking style stories, stories of the Danes, the Berserkers, anything involving the pillaging times of the Danish settlers across the European continent, Vikings, The Last Kingdom, Vinland saga, I could go on and on. and in terms of revenge stories I've read back to back the work of master Mangaka, Kentarou Miura, creator of the legendary tale of Berserk. So when I saw the trailer to “The North” directed byRobert Eggers I knew immediately I was going to absolutely love this film, and that's exactly why I needed to watch it and discuss it on the podcast
Dr Strange Makes an epic return after his supporting role in the Spider-man no way home film, to finally getting his second installment film after a 6 year wait since the first one. Dr Strange into the Multiverse of Madness, directed by Sam Raimi, and in true Raimi fashion, has to be truly the most horror influenced marvel film ever, and I loved it; especially with its very borderline rated R violence. Marvel didn't stop there, they also wrapped up their mini series, Moon Night Starring Oscar Isaac as the lucretius Moon Knight hero, that surfers from DID. It was definitely an interesting series with a lot of potential.
If this film we are about to discuss does not receive at least a nomination for Best Picture in next year's Oscars. I will Wholeheartedly believe that the Academy does not know a great film, if it bit them on the Ass. Everything Everywhere All at Once, Directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Schenert, has to be my favorite film released in the last 5 years, right alongside Parasyte. The performances by an absolutely stacked cast, in Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, and James Hong are fantastic; heavy on the Asian representation, in what I could only call, a heart felt, fun, action packed film that made an absolutely amazing piece of art
The Batman has returned to film outside of the DCEU, in a stand alone movie, directed by Matt Reeves starring Robert Pattinson, and not Ben Affleck. To be Honest I don't even know what's going to happen to that version of Batman, but we are here with this one. It's basically a turn to “true crime” version of The Batman, where we watch a more detective heavy problem solver, who is younger and not the “Force to be reckoned with” he becomes later in his years. The Black Rooms crew Unite to discuss this very different take on the big screen of the Dark Knight, and we have to say we weren't disappointed
We are back! After some time away while I was in Puerto Rico visiting family, We have the crew back together for another Episode of the black room reviews! We are playing a bit of a catch up game on these next few episodes, Starting with our reviews on this Episode, with the widely discussed movie Morbius, directed by Daniel Espinosa; on whether it is good or not. As well as a follow up review on the fan favorite, and first great video game live action adaptation, Sonic 2. Another huge hit after the first, We have a full house today on this episode with the Dork's and Stuff podcast host Will and Sasha joining us today. Alongside our cast Alvin and Jess
I love this Biopic so much, and it created such an emotional impact for me, as someone who wishes to be heavily involved with the development of children if I ever have any for myself. To Watch King Richard directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, and to see the impact of a father on his girls, and what success that had led to and to see the emotional drive, and effort it takes to put your kids in the right direction, even when everyone else is against your methods.
Oscars are very soon! Actually if you are listening to this they might have already happened. So We are recapping some movies that we already reviewed, earlier on the podcast, Dune, and Don't look up. If you want full reviews of those movies go check out those previous reviews. On this episode we will just be discussing them, their place in the Oscars best picture, and more
: Frequently I like to start my intros with something quippy, or a clever way to give a piece of the plot of the films we will be reviewing; something fun or exciting to get us started with the episode. Drive my car directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi is the first film, I did not feel comfortable creating something clever or quippy to start. It's such a deep film that touches on many theme's like grief, acceptance, loss and embodies self awareness to like the tenth degree. It's a film that is long as hell and does take a bit of dedication to get through but does not feel it, with the great pacing it has
Starting with a film of a young Women 25 years old Alana kane, Swooned by a young boy 15 years old, Gary Valentine, in this coming of age film set in the 70's, Licorice Pizza, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson; as the two drive each other into odd adventures and schemes to make money, as they fall in love with one another in the San fernando Valley. Following that review, the next Film The Power of Dog, directed by Jane Campion about Brother ranchers navigating the cowboy lifestyle, when the older brother brings home a new wife and her son to live with them and be a part of it. As the younger brother does not approve, and proceeds to be domineering with cruelty to the single mother and her son.
Child of Deaf Adults, a CODA. One thing I have to say, so far my favorite movie of the best picture nominees; is by far the film CODA directed by Sian Heder. A relatable film about a young high school senior. Who grows up in a deaf family, while she herself has able hearing.
In the midst of our Oscar reviews for best picture, we often find candidates that spark different interests in our perspective of film. One would say a film is boring, where another would see it as a spectacle in terms of themes, and messaging. I think Belfast, directed by Kenneth Branah, is a good example of the first film in the best picture category, that really created different opinions amongst the Black Room Reviews crew. Some of us loved it, some of us thought it was a bore, and others could see it's importance and why it was selected in best picture; even though it didn't pique their interest
Uncharted the Movie, based on the popular video game by the same name. It definitely is not good, not even close; but you know, again I love Tom Holland and I love to see him on the screen, so guess what. We watched this film, really going in with an open mind, and understanding that because it was a film based on a video game, that It probably wouldn't be good.
we will be reviewing, on the ballot for Best Picture. The cautionary tale of Nightmare Alley directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Starring Bradley Cooper, As lead character Stan, a man running away from his past, to then Join a carney group, where he learns the ways of being a mentalist, as he discovers that he can take advantage of people, through his tricks as a mentalist to make money. Like all cautionary tales Stan flies too close to the sun with his new found skill leading him down a dark path, into a dreaded ending.
Our Favorite Star Wars bounty hunter wraps up his first show, The Book of Boba Fett, which you can find on the streaming platform, Disney Plus. Continuing the Story of the famed Boba Fett as we get more entwined with the character, who he is and how he came to be. we had to discuss the series Peacemaker, while the season finale aired, last Thursday, we wanted to Talk about James Gunn's new baby on HBO Max, because this is one hell of a show! And It truly deserves to be talked about
I could barely stay awake to finish this one film and it embarrassed me to think that this director created two of my favorite disaster films of all time, Independence day and The day after tomorrow. MoonFall directed by Roland Emmerich Starring Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and John Bradley. This next film, let's just be honest it's not a cinematic masterpiece, it's not trying to be, it's a hilarious compilation of rambunctious, nearly psychotic group of daredevils, pulling off gross disgusting stunts for our amusement and I am forever here for it, I will never be tired of it, and i hope we get at least one more. I am talking about the film that started an entire culture of stupidity, Jackass Forever directed by Jeff Tremaine starring Steve-o Johnny knoxville and their entire crew from the original Jackass.
The Tribe, A Ukrainian film on Amazon Prime, completely shot in sign language, no subtitles or any outward dialogue, so the entire time you have to tie together the events of the film, by what you see on screen; the characters, and their actions! It's definitely a different experience than any film I've previously seen, without a doubt.
We continue our small trend of reviewing foreign films, for the next couple of weeks due to the slow season of movie releases in the winter. Let the Right One In, a Swedish film you can find on Hulu; directed by Tomas Alfredson, a Swedish romantic horror film, that I went into completely blind and highly enjoyed it!
Could you imagine, there existed and institution that can grant you basically anything you wanted, or relieved you from punishment of any wrongdoing, but in return you would have to volunteeringly participate in an what is essentially an experiment where you live in a small room in a tower stacked on top of other rooms and other individuals and you all share the same food source as it travels down through each room. THe higher up you are in tower, the more food available to you; the lower you are, the less food that will be available. Essentially that's what the Premise is for the foreign spanish Film “The Platform'' directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, starring Ivan Massagué
HawkEye and the Witcher, two brooding old men, tasked with looking after young female proteges in danger from people with agendas, as they train the said female protege to be just like them, in a means to fight back against their personal enemies! Wow these two shows have surprisingly a lot in common. Well if you haven't guessed it we are reviewing Hawk Eye and Witcher
Arguably one of Netflix best shows to date, and one; we here at the Black Room Reviews studio love very much. We are so excited for this Cobra Kai season and what follows, this is the review of Cobra Kai's season 4!!!
In what is arguably one of the best Zombie films in the Last 10 years, this review will be on Train to Busan. A Korean film about a father, fighting hard to keep his daughter safe, when a Zombie outbreak threatens their travels on a train back to Busan, a city in South Korea.

One of the Greatest Super Hero Films, requires more than just our normal crew! Shout out to the Dork's n Stuff Podcast and the Jp and Carl Podcast Guest, as well as our own team as we came here together to discuss Spider-Man No Way Home!
Netflix is making sure to hop on the international media hype train hard. Collecting anime and other shows for their catalogs of shows. A Korea series recently added on to Netflix "Hellbound" truly has a concept and premise that actually split the opinions of the Black Rooms Crew and we are here to discuss this series and it's potential!
We have a double review for you guys, with West Side Story and Netflix He-man!
Cowboy Bebop, many very first experience to the wonderful art form of anime, and Netflix felt like they needed to transform this already strong series, into a flat, lame and just cringe live action series; that one would believe should work, but just seems not to be able to work at all.
Encanto released during thanks giving and is Disney's latest family film. Opening Thanking weekend and based on Colombian Folklore tales. Disney created something with potential, but lacks a certain "Umph" to compete with it's other cultural relevant stories.
Wow, just wow; can I tell you that as a fan of the ghostbusters as a kid this film felt like it brought me back to those moments. I enjoyed this film because I myself watched these films as a kid and this film brought me back to those moments. I completely better reboot for the series, then the shit they produced back in 2016.
