First, the panel tackles It Ends With Us starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni (the latter also directed and produced the film.) It's a big, glossy melodrama laced with a domestic violence plot, and is the first film adaptation of BookTok star author Colleen Hoover. Then, the three explore Time Bandits, a new television show from Jermaine Clement, Iain Morris, and Taika Watiti starring, among others, a sublime Lisa Kudrow. The Apple TV+ series is based on Terry Gilliam's 1981 film of the same name and follows a ragtag bunch of bandits as they thieve and travel through time. Finally, in light of its 20-year anniversary, the trio considers Yelp – does the crowd-sourcing review platform still hold power in 2024? On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a pair of New Zealanders who've forged incredible careers in music and comedy and comedic music: Jemaine Clement and Ruban Nielson.  I'm guessing Clement is best known to our listeners as half of Flight of the Conchords, his musical and acting duo with Bret McKenzie. They haven't put out a record or toured much in the last decade or so, but their albums and HBO series definitely endure with their subtle hilarity. Clement has of course been plenty busy post-Conchords as both an actor and director. His 2014 mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, co-directed with his old friend Taika Watiti, spun off into one of the funniest shows on TV, and you've also heard or seen him in everything from Despicable Me to the latest Avatar movie. In the awful event that you're not familiar with Flight of the Conchords, here's their David Bowie tribute, simply called “Bowie,” which is discussed a bit in this episode. Clement seemed excited—and well prepared!—to speak with Ruban Nielson, the singer-guitarist behind Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Though both of these guys are, as I said, from New Zealand and fans of each other's work, they had never met before. UMO, as Nielson's band is known for short, has been making a sort of uncategorizable music since 2010; they most often get pegged as psychedelic rock, which isn't wrong, but also doesn't tell the whole story. There are also elements of lo-fi indie rock, a bit of funk, and some garage rock. But the fact that it's tough to name is part of what makes UMO's music so appealing. Check out a little their song “The Garden,” which opens the latest UMO album, V.  These guys have a fantastic conversation that spans everything from the history of New Zealand and their shared Maori heritage to an in-depth examination of the Jagstang, a guitar designed by Kurt Cobain and favored by Nielson. They talk about bombing on stage—and getting bombed before getting on stage—and they share stories about coming up in a shared place. Also, you'll hear the phrase “sad funky ghost,” perhaps for the first and last time in your life. Enjoy. The Boys, if this isn't the standard for one of the most hilarious, gruesome and funniest superhero shows, with the best storylines and characters, with the best development, I do not know how else you could measure greatness for a superhero show. Starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, and erin Moriarty; as well as a number of other Stellar actors that I could be here all night listing their names. The Boy's has to be my favorite superhero show produced, possibly more than the netflix version of Daredevil and the Punisher, we discuss this show today, as well as Marvel's newest film starring Chris Hemworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson and more, directed by Taika Watiti, where Thor goes on a journey to discover the cause of the death of godly friends of his, where he will come to clash with the MCU version of the safest way to put an atheist on Screen, Gorr The God butcher. Welcome to the fourth year of Free Range Idiocy! Yeah... we're just as surprised as you are. To celebrate, we're going to paw our way through all of the news and trailers that have been dumped on the world in the past week or so in order to give our refined and sensible take on things. Failing that, we'll just do what we normally do - rant, rave, and generally make asses of ourselves on the interwebs. Ain't life grand?!   LINKS OF INTEREST: - We've got a filming date on the new Agatha Harkness Disney+ show - The deleted version of the Pizza Poppa post-credits scene is pretty interesting - Here's the trailer for Andor - New Shadow of the Sith book provides some backstory for The Rise Of Skywalker - The Quantum Leap alternate series finale that wasn't - Here's the Clerks 3 trailer - Taika Watiti's Star Wars movie may be in doubt - A different take on the fall of Felix Gaeta from Battlestar Galactica - It's that time again for the new non-update on the BSG re-whatever - Here's the trailer for the ILM documentary on Disney+   ...AND ANOTHER THING: The Man They Call Tim recommends watching all of Stranger Things, but especially season four Uncle Todd thinks you ought to listen to the Christian McBridge episode of Questlove Supreme and also check out Tal Wilkenfeld immediately   FOLLOW US ON THE SOCIAL MEDIAS: Facebook - http://facebook.com/freerangeidiocy Twitter - http://twitter.com/freerangeidiocy  Instagram - http://instagram.com/freerangeidiocy
