This week on Bottle. It Podcast we are joined by the mechanic responsible for getting Biggsy's body through 48 hours of running for our Fundraiser in December. Biggsy isn't your usual runner, he is strong and carries a big frame from years of rugby and paddling surf boards. He was continually being told his body wasn't built for the sport, let alone 48 hours of it. Luckily, he had a mindset that refused to listen, and when you pair that with a expert who is passionate in efficient movement, you get an injury free 48 hour run.It was unreal to have Jon in the studio to learn more about how he got Biggsy going, his history in the field, common mistakes by runners and running professionals, as well as discussing the future. We hope you enjoyed the chat, and be sure to follow Jon's work, or seek him out for a consultation/assessment.https://themapmovement.com/https://www.instagram.com/themapmovement/

Story telling in sport is one of the most powerful tools used to access a range of poweful emotions within the audience. There wouldn't be an athlete in the world who hasn't had a poster on their wall, an image burned into their retina, a before photo, a inspirational photo or quote that rolls through their brain when the alarm goes off at 430am.We are incredibly fortunate here at Bottle. It to not only be surrounded by some amazing athletes, but we also have formed amazing friendships with some absolute legends on the otherside of the lens. A thankless bunch of humans that share the same work hours as the athletes, but ensure they are in the right spot, at the right time, to capture the fuel mentioned above in the first paragraph. Luke O'Shea's work captured my eye early, (full disclosure, massive fan boy, and also enjoy time behind a lens, so found a creative similarity, not talent). He's ability to capture a raw pulled back, or extreme close up to tell another angle of a story always interested me. Rather than chase logos or cliche images that often lead to greater financial reward, he's found a lane navigating both. His linkedin page reads like a explore page of most triathletes, brands like Wyn Republic, Rapha and 2XU all feature prominently. Recent work with the Sydney FC Women's side showcasing the journey from debutants to now Back to Back premiership winners. Another example of quality imagery showcasing stories that provide purpose. We discuss creativity behind the lens, the pursuit of the perfect image, working with Brands/Athletes whilst remaining true to one's own values/style. And genuinely just talk it out. I'm grateful he's work caught my eye, I said g'day, and now can call him a mate, my conversations always leave me recharged creatively and I hope this shared convo provides the same for you.BLuke's Work Portfolio - https://luke-oshea.pixpa.com/?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaam0sQu2nxqdPfmIwgtEZFQhToymNWN5LQ1fJLF4_1Ur7K0VbhG-D1iicI_aem_AaSLjZ8Jvp3wSKht9qnsd9YqAf5NJpMVmQ9FUwgze4MhSA1JLTqlQ4y6edAxcFNNCEOZbufxoDXQCFfohSRBg682Luke's Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/theother12hours?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==

The Collaboration you never knew you needed until now. WNOW has been doing amazing work in the Mens Mental Health space, so when mates within a few communities here in the Eastern Suburbs reached out about combining the two movements on an Ironman Suit, it was simply a no brainer. WNOW meet every Wednesday morning at 6am for a conversation, an exercise, and a space to not feel alone. With a variety of locations not only here in Australia, but world wide, we are excited to introduce this movement to Friends of the Floral that may not have heard about this community. https://www.instagram.com/w__n__o__w?igsh=MWxkMXp0NzVnY3FndQ==Mack Newton Jones & Cormac Walsh drop into the Bottle. It studio to discuss their journey with WNOW and the upcoming Cairns Ironman where the Floral/WNOW Suits will be flying around under the Palms. With 2 Athletes racing the 70.3, Mack and Jack Foster, and Cormac and Josh Hardy racing the full. We speak about their training, mindset and what ironman has bought to their lives. This conversation touches on a variety of common topics that arise with Mens Mental Health, and it is refreshing AF to once again be reminded that we have an involved community pursuing the Positve, the Light, rather than being absorbed by the Dark.We make reference to Cormacs Dad being a sounding board for advice, then with him moving to Aus, missing that closeness to discuss life. I circle back and reference that loss, and it may appear that his father has passed. We assure you that he is alive and well, and this isn't a memorial episode. Thankyou for listening and supporting Bottle.It. The YouTube link will be made available during the week.B

Bottle. It Podcast - Are Coaches Worth It? Alcohol Free pros/cons & Busso in Review

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 4, 2024 31:13

Welcome back to Bottle. It TV. As discussed it has been a hot minute between takes and before we can share our big news for 2024, let's wrap up 2023.  Busselton Ironman wasn't the race I was heading over for, COVID once again crashed that party, but I still managed to find bulk enjoyment in watching the Floral fly in the West with numerous athletes wearing either the suit or our Fractel hats. We have 3 key points with chapter markers if you're looking to jump ahead to those segments, It is a bit rambly, as I'm legit having a one-person conversation. YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/02jGlFeE37oThe key takeaways are: 15.45 MIN MARK - Busso Ironman - Amazing race, challenging conditions despite rumors of a flat/fast track. A massive thank you to Koa Sports for their hospitality, and we look forward to returning in 2024 to finish what we started. 4.30 MIN MARK - Alcohol-Free - Firmly on the fence with this topic, I love both drinking socially and the immense benefits that come from being sober. In summary, we can use both in moderation and identify getting off alcohol as an amazing way to access willpower, mental clarity, and strength. I think it can be an important tool in our mental health kit. 20.54 MIN MARK (27.45 ONWARD SUMMARY) - Are coaches worth it? - Clearly an attention-grabbing headline. After narrating my journey with Clint Rowlings from RPG Coaching throughout the Long Covid to Busso podcast, it was cool to reflect on the differences between doing an IM Prep without a coach in 2022 and doing two preps with Clint overlooking my training for a 70.3 and Ironman. Full disclosure on a few points here. Clint was immense in helping me with those preps, and invaluable with the time, advice, and support offered. He has been a friend of mine since Port 2022 and friends of the page will know the support he and RPG have thrown at the Floral. So, it's 100% biased,  however, I try my best to present arguments for Pros and Cons.  We've been fortunate to work with athletes who have had a broad range of coaches from within this amazing Ironman community and we love the access that athletes have to the variety of options available. Do your research and find the right coach/community for you. RPG Training Peaks Packages available here - https://www.trainingpeaks.com/my-training-plans/rpgcoaching?_gl=1%2A1m4cnyd%2A_ga%2AMTg5NzgzMw..%2A_ga_Z2LEWBWKBD%2AMTcwNTQ1MjA5OS4yLjEuMTcwNTQ1MjQ5OS4zMS4wLjA I'm going to commit to this podcast thing each week and continue to push content, I've limited myself in the past due to a high standard of what my ideal podcast/YouTube setup is, and to be honest, it's probably just poor self-talk. I'm grateful for every listen/share/recommendation so I'm gonna keep hitting record each week and see how far we can take this in 2024. Thanks for listening/watching, as always any questions I'm happy to answer. B

Kid just goes. This ain't a review, this is like a progress report as his Ironman journey is far from over. To put it into context of how far he has come I'm gunna try and keep it short and sweet.Only ever competed in 2 triathlons. Ever. Both of those were Ironman.Cairns last year and Port Mac this year. No club races, no background in the sport, just an engine and curiosity into how far he could go.He went 10hrsish at Cairns on 2 cliff bars, an inability to swim, and spending 8mins in transition looking for said cliff bars. He earned a Kona call up on debut. But declined due to Covid closure. So lost his spot.Heading onto Port he was hungry for a sub 10 and a Kona spot, knowing it was a harder course, and a stacked field. The bloke dodged kick ons, applied himself to the dark art of swimming, and sought advice from everywhere to ensure come race day, no stone was left unturned. By God didn't he have a day at Port. The only cyclist that didn't catch a roadtrain, the only bloke infront of his run time was the event winner. He stacked it up got his sub 10. Uncoached. If you swim and ride for show, and run for dough, this kid is a Baker... runs like he hasn't ridden. However, given the field, had to wait till Mondays roll down to see if Kona called! Got his floral necklace, got to meet a Goat. Kids going to Kona!! For context, ill use rugby as its his background. His rise to Kona is essentially: Managing to get a start with the Waratahs, accidentally. Playing a huge game, nailing it, then steps on the field for the Wallabies, nails it, and now in his 3rd game, lines up at the World Cup final. (As a Kiwi he'll love those teams). This is not normal. There's only One.The masses are demanding this podcast before I've had a chance to reflect and sum up an accurate description. This bloke enjoys a launch. First bloke to crack beer, and quite often, many hours/days later, usually the last one to crack a beer. Rinse and repeat every weekend. We here at Bottle. It don't celebrate, nor condone that behaviour when done responsibly. If you need that to achieve some moments of Positive Mental Health, play on.The above is not what we're celebrating about Finchy.Finchy is unique, Finchy had been and still is doing the above quite often. However, it's been his ability to flick a switch and run that has caught our eye.I met him whilst supporting Nedd Brockmans 50 marathons in 50 days. Finchy was a regular, rocking up in board shorts and a shirt 2 sizes to big for him, it was quite a contrast to the rest of the running community with Nedd.Very quickly the common phrase echoed to me was, there's only one. He went from struggling to run 2ks, to running his first marra with Nedd in the space of a month. He feel in love with the feeling of being healthy. Not only continued to run, but continued to explore just how far he could go.In his words when asked "why?" During his fist 100k run, he responded: Why fucking not!?This episode Finchy shares his journey with the Trot, balancing it with the Bend, practising visualisation, and sticking to a plan, regardless of time spent, or inadequate preparation.I love this episode, this is a bloke showing a whole community, that you can do more, without the list of items and products that magazines and social media jam down your throat.20 cliff bars and a pump bottle. Thats all you need to get from Newcastle to Sydney on foot.

@pillarperformance_ - Certified Good Gear - We here at Bottle. It are aware of smoke and mirrors, the snake oil, the claims, the "studies"... So when Pillar kept popping up in our News Feed we approached cautiously and with a big stick.Got on the Magnesium. Tasted good. Had 2 nights solid sleep before Tim Reed pops into the study for a podcast wearing the P hat. It triggered the curiosity even further. If a high performing, highly researched, promoter of no BS, 1% finding goodness is endorsing the brand. Surely it's doing something right.2 weeks later I'm a converted fan boy. The ironman training meant I was drinking 3 litres of water a day, problem being, I went to bed and had to get up twice before my 5am alarm to go to the toilet. Not on Pillar. Out like a light for 7 hours. Intact, if I took it too far away from bed time, I wouldn't make the bed.So when I meet @damienfitzpatrick at Cairns Ironman I told him straight away, I wanted to know, I wanted to support, I wanted to share what the G O was with Pillar. Not only for training, but for Mental Health you need sleep.Thank you to Charlie Lawson and Damien Fitzpatrick for there time.

The Great Patty MacThe Bloke can Run, we knew that, he could swim, he learnt how to ride. We now know he can put together a 10hr 39min debut Ironman. We now know, it wasn't enough, Join me as i discuss Port, the Upcoming Cairns Ironman, and how important an Ironman is in regards to building a better Mental Strength.Below is P-macs Bottle. It Athlete Review:Athlete in Review - @patmacyepPatrick McNamara , The Runner.Bottle.It was in it's formative stages when Patty and Beau went for Patty's longest ride. It was a 40k pedal, followed by a large chips and a 6 pack that PMac announced his intentions to throw a 3.8k swim and 180k ride, infront of a Marathon. It was meet with strong stoke and encouragement. We knew he could run, Marathons had become this blokes Park Runs. But had only just got a wetsuit and road bike. It's only when we throw ourselves into the unknown do we find out how far we can actually go.Patty Mac bit off more than he can chew, but, went to town chewing that mouthful with a ever present grin.Patty lives to turn hurt into fun. His mantra was present from day 1 and, to be honest, there was something magic when Patty was joining you on a longy. The cyclists in us enjoyed trying to break him, (unsuccessfully), and the runner in him, tried to break us on the ROTB, (Sucessfully, Rhys* held his own and benefited immensely).Patty Mac did his prep with the assistance of more clubs, communities and friendship groups then most politicians count on for a vote. He is a flag flyer for some of the best clubs in the East, and to have him in a Bottle. It suit was special.Patty swam past swimmers, rode past cyclists, and had a trot that has left him with an unscratched itch.Despite throwing down a 10hr 39min on debut, P-Mac in his own words was left "humbled" by an amazing day at Port Macquarie. If you're not learning, you're not living, and I don't think Patty will let either the wetty or bike gather too much dust before getting that itch looked at.
