Welcome back to Bottle. It TV. As discussed it has been a hot minute between takes and before we can share our big news for 2024, let's wrap up 2023.  Busselton Ironman wasn't the race I was heading over for, COVID once again crashed that party, but I still managed to find bulk enjoyment in watching the Floral fly in the West with numerous athletes wearing either the suit or our Fractel hats. We have 3 key points with chapter markers if you're looking to jump ahead to those segments, It is a bit rambly, as I'm legit having a one-person conversation. YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/02jGlFeE37oThe key takeaways are: 15.45 MIN MARK - Busso Ironman - Amazing race, challenging conditions despite rumors of a flat/fast track. A massive thank you to Koa Sports for their hospitality, and we look forward to returning in 2024 to finish what we started. 4.30 MIN MARK - Alcohol-Free - Firmly on the fence with this topic, I love both drinking socially and the immense benefits that come from being sober. In summary, we can use both in moderation and identify getting off alcohol as an amazing way to access willpower, mental clarity, and strength. I think it can be an important tool in our mental health kit. 20.54 MIN MARK (27.45 ONWARD SUMMARY) - Are coaches worth it? - Clearly an attention-grabbing headline. After narrating my journey with Clint Rowlings from RPG Coaching throughout the Long Covid to Busso podcast, it was cool to reflect on the differences between doing an IM Prep without a coach in 2022 and doing two preps with Clint overlooking my training for a 70.3 and Ironman. Full disclosure on a few points here. Clint was immense in helping me with those preps, and invaluable with the time, advice, and support offered. He has been a friend of mine since Port 2022 and friends of the page will know the support he and RPG have thrown at the Floral. So, it's 100% biased,  however, I try my best to present arguments for Pros and Cons.  We've been fortunate to work with athletes who have had a broad range of coaches from within this amazing Ironman community and we love the access that athletes have to the variety of options available. Do your research and find the right coach/community for you. RPG Training Peaks Packages available here - https://www.trainingpeaks.com/my-training-plans/rpgcoaching?_gl=1%2A1m4cnyd%2A_ga%2AMTg5NzgzMw..%2A_ga_Z2LEWBWKBD%2AMTcwNTQ1MjA5OS4yLjEuMTcwNTQ1MjQ5OS4zMS4wLjA I'm going to commit to this podcast thing each week and continue to push content, I've limited myself in the past due to a high standard of what my ideal podcast/YouTube setup is, and to be honest, it's probably just poor self-talk. I'm grateful for every listen/share/recommendation so I'm gonna keep hitting record each week and see how far we can take this in 2024. Thanks for listening/watching, as always any questions I'm happy to answer. B

In Ep72 of Running Matters we discover the man behind the biggest monument of Australian trail running. We discuss the evolution of AROC sport, from a niche adventure racing company to being absorbed by global juggernaut Ironman and the expansion of UltraTrail from 150 runners to 7000 in a little over a decade. We chat about some of the incredible performances from athletes like Killian Jornet, Dylan Bowman, Brendan Davies, Lucy Bartholomew and Ryan Sandes but also why UltraTrail is such a welcoming and inclusive event for runners of all abilities. Tom covers the connection to the Blue Mountains and it’s people and why keeping his event environmentally sustainable is of such importance. Tom details the never-ending challenges (fire, flood, pandemic, avalanche, etc) of trying to produce an event in 2020 and explains the final insurmountable hurdles for this year’s race. As usual, we dig deep on the big issues like being swamped by muddy hugs on the finish line, carrying house bricks on the mandatory gear list and being dominated by his wife in the Perisher Pub Crawl for 7 years straight! If you enjoyed the Podcast, please subscribe or follow Running Matters to be notified when each episode is released.Feel free to use the online discount codes below:•GU Energy Australia (15%): RUNNINGMATTERS•Fractel Performance Running Caps (15%): runningmatters•T8 Running kit (10%): RUNNINGMATTERS20•Runnulla (10%): Mention Running Matters in store.•Precision Hydration (15% off the entire first order of electrolytes): RUNNINGMATTERS15

The Outback is a large expanse of rough, barren desert that can cause serious problems when exposed day after day to shadeless, intense heat. With a July 2019 start date, we're taking advantage of the cooler, drier months to make the crossing, avoiding extreme temperatures and washed-out roads. While there is a more direct route connecting Darwin to Adelaide via the Stuart Highway, we've chosen to avoid the more trafficked paved routes in favour of dirt roads. This approach keeps us away from potential dangers like increased traffic, while also introducing the logistical difficulty of scant resupply options and many hundreds of miles without services. More intriguing, yes. More difficult, most definitely. It's worth noting that we - Katie and Henley - are in no way professionals. Professional goofballs, that's about it! We're just audacious dreamers with a healthy dose of optimism that things will work out and a desire to push ourselves. That said, we are experienced outdoors-people with several thousand miles of solo and tandem travel of this nature, and we have inspired heads on our shoulders. We understand the risks of the project and are responsible and intelligent enough to figure it all out with passion and humility. If you want to track Katie and Henley’s current trip across Australia, check out their website and Garmin live tracker at katievisco.comThey would love you to send them a message!I hope you enjoy this adventurous, light-hearted interview. Matt is joined with Co Host Danny Toole to interview Philip Balnave. This unique gentleman has been running and racing in slippers for the past ten years with incredible results.
