In this profoundly inspiring episode of "The Greg Bennett Show," we sit down with triathlon royalty, Craig Alexander, a three-time Ironman World Champion known affectionately as Crowie. Beyond his legendary status in the world of endurance sports, Craig is a devoted family man, whose recent personal challenges have brought to light the true strength and resilience that define him. Today, we explore a deeply personal narrative that extends beyond the racecourses and into the heart of his family. Craig opens up about a harrowing ordeal that has profoundly impacted their lives—his son Austin's sudden stroke at just 13 years old during a track event, leading to severe paralysis. This episode delves into the intense emotional and physical journey that followed, highlighting Austin's incredible fight to regain mobility and the family's unwavering support through months of rehabilitation. Craig shares the profound lessons in resilience and adaptation he's learned through this ordeal, lessons that transcend the discipline of triathlon and speak to the core of human endurance. We discuss the critical role of community support, the therapeutic effects of sports, and how his family has navigated the complexities of recovery with grace and determination. Whether you're a fan of triathlon, a supporter of overcoming adversity, or someone who cherishes powerful stories of human spirit, this conversation with Craig Alexander offers a compelling look at what it means to endure, adapt, and thrive against the odds. Join us as we uncover the personal side of a sports legend, whose life lessons extend far beyond the finish line.
Guest: Duncan Crowie, South Africa's national U-17 football head coach We spoke to South Africa's national U-17 football head coach Duncan Crowie after he announced a list of players for a camp that will be used to select the final squad for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria next month.
Craig Alexander, or "Crowie" as many call know him, has formulated an approach to triathlon training through many years as a professional and now as a coach. He talks with Dirk Friel about his approach to hitting peak fitness while balancing a restorative taper for the best performance racing long course triathlon. Crowie and Dirk consider the schedule changes to the Ironman World Championships in Kona for 2022 and who could take home the men's and women's titles after seeing recent performances and results from the championships in St. George earlier in the year. Plus, should the world championships always be hosted in Kona? Alexander is a true legend of triathlon and is a three-time Ironman champion and two-time 70.3 world champion. Winning both in 2011, He has held the Ironman Hawaii course record and was recently inducted into the Ironman Australia Hall of Fame. He started his coaching company, Sansego, in 2014, which serves hundreds of athletes worldwide through training plans, clubs, personal coaching and more.
What a chat! Clayton and Greg sit down at the finish line of Ironman Australia with Craig Alexander. Craig's palmares is simply extraordinary in the sport of triathlon. - 3 time Ironman World Championship Champion. - 2 time Ironman 70.3 World Champion.- The Kurnell King.He goes in depth here on what it takes and the sacrifices he's made along the way to be at the pointy end of the sport for so long. www.koasportscoaching.com
Go to BrockArmstrong.com/newsletter to sign up for my bi-weekly updates. Craig “Crowie” Alexander grew up playing a range of sports soccer, cricket, water polo, golf and tennis, although soccer was his main game. The sport you know Crowie best for, triathlon, he didn't compete in until the age of 20. Alexander raced his first professional triathlon in Sydney, Australia on the ITU World Cup circuit in 1995, finishing in 8th place. He also claimed his first professional victory later that same year. He went on to have many wins and with his 2011 victory in Kona Hawaii, he also broke the previous course record which had stood for 15 years and became the oldest athlete ever to win the IM World Championship title (38 yo).In 2014, Crowie stepped away from Ironman racing and launched his own brand, Sansego. He teamed up with an elite group of endurance coaches and experts to deliver coaching, consulting, clinics and training camps/experiences.To this day, Alexander has maintained a high level of fitness and professional results, even though only racing sparingly. As a professional athlete, Crowie has won at least one pro race every year of his career (1995-2019).Main Topics:- Since Crowie didn't actually take up the sport that he is most known for until he was 20, what was his fitness life like before triathlon?- How did playing soccer, cricket, tennis allow him to "go pro" a year after switching to Triathlon? Not only go pro but win races?- How did he balance going to University (BS in Physiotherapy) and being a professional athlete? How did he stay motivated in both arenas?- What gear and recovery tools did he use when training and racing so hard?- Because a main theme of this podcast is addressing how to stay fit as we age, I had to ask him about being “the oldest athlete” to ever win the IM world champs at 38yo. Was there anything he changed in his training at that time?- Craig still pops up in races - and wins them - now (at age 47) which gives people like me (50) hope. What training advice would does he have for an ageing age grouper like me?Make sure to check out nutritiousmovement.com/virtual-studio-membership and tell them Brock sent you!

This deaf-blind Paralympian was told to navigate Tokyo alone. So she quit Team USA. TIMONIUM, Md. — Five years ago, Becca Meyers was on the floor of her room in the Olympic Village at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, balled up and sobbing, frustrated and terrified. She had stopped eating because she couldn't find the athletes' dining area. Even after her parents rescued her and pumped her full of calories and confidence in time for her to win three gold medals and a silver for Team USA, she made a promise to herself: She would never put herself through such a nightmare again. On Sunday evening, roughly five weeks before the start of the Tokyo Paralympics, Meyers, a deaf-blind swimmer with a chance to medal in four events, pulled the plug on her Olympic dream — most likely forever. With a click, she sent an email informing U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee officials of her decision to withdraw from Team USA. Gwen Jorgensen is Leaving Bowerman Track Club After four years at the Nike-sponsored club coached by Jerry Schumacher, Gwen Jorgensen announced today that she's leaving Bowerman Track Club to be coached by Bobby McGee, who she has worked with in the past. In a video uploaded to her YouTube channel, Jorgensen explained that a mix of career and family goals led to this decision. “I've had two marathons that just haven't proven I can do it,” she said. “I want to just have a marathon, that's like, OK, I can run this.” She and her husband, Patrick Lemieux, are also looking for a new place to live and are considering having more children. Jorgensen won the Olympic gold at the Rio Games in 2016 in triathlon, and announced a year later she would shift to running, with a focus on medaling in the marathon. Due to extended recovery after heel surgery to repair Haglund's deformity in May 2019, she didn't end up competing in the Olympic marathon trials last year—in early 2020, she decided to focus on the track. “My goals in the marathon aren't changing. My timeline is,” she said at the time. What's New in the 303: REMEMBERING MIKE GREER – A PIONEER, INNOVATOR AND FRIEND An athlete, race director, official, volunteer, author and speaker. A coach and a mentor. An inspiration and an innovator. A pioneer of the sport and a titan of the community. Mike Greer, who dedicated his life to triathlon and the multisport community, passed away at 82 on July 21. His service to the sport spanned nearly four decades and encompassed every facet of the industry. The Funeral service is planned for Monday, July 26 at 1 p.m. CT in Lubbock, Texas at the Sanders Funeral Home. Mike competed in over 400 triathlons across every distance and continued to excel as an age-group athlete into his 80s, created and served as the race director of Buffalo Springs Lake 70.3 at Lubbock, Texas, for the past 30-plus years, held the position of both Interim Executive Director and President of the Board of Directors of USA Triathlon, and created the swim-bike discipline of aquabike, among other accomplishments and contributions. Mike was one of the forerunners of the sport who guided triathlon through its formative years to bring it stability, authenticity and solvency, and laid the foundation for the current success of both the sport and the National Governing Body. “All of us stand on the shoulders of Mike – what he did for our sport and USA Triathlon cannot be overstated,” said Rocky Harris, USA Triathlon CEO. “He taught all of us so much about both triathlon and life, and his legacy will have a lasting impact in every corner of our industry and community.” Ride/Race Mt. A news packed episode this week with so much to talk about including the Super League Arena Games, Ironman New Zealand, Geelong 70.3 and a look at the recent Tokyo qualification of Chris Thompson, an On sponsored athlete who wore a blacked out pair of Nike's with permission from On. This makes us ask the question, if every athlete is choosing to wear the Nike super shoes why would they ever sponsor an athlete again? Almost every pro athlete in any race now uses Nike if they are sponsored or not. So will we see an end to athlete sponsorship for shoes or will other brands catch up? This episode we have ANOTHER legend of the sport... this guys is one of Paul's heroes... this week we welcome Craig Alexander.Wow! When we started the PK Triathlon podcast, Kate Charlton & Paul Jones didn't expect so many legends of the sport of Triathlon to be as willing to come on and talk so passionately about the sport. "Crowie" has been racing as a pro for 25 years! Throughout the episode, Craig reveals his passion for the sport and his knowledge of the sport. We talk about the athletes he raced against – there are a lot of those! We also discuss why he left his 21st birthday party early (yes – we really do!), how he learnt to win IRONMAN Hawaii, we discuss how if he hadn't lost in 2007 he may never have won in 2008 and 2009... and 2011.Craig openly talks about discovering mental tools and strengths to help him improve as an athlete. What comes across throughout the interview is his passion for the sport, the respect for his competitors and the determination to continually test himself against the best athletes in the world.Seriously everyone, if you enjoy Triathlon, sit down and listen to this... it is MINT and well worth the listen.

This week on The Triathlete Hour we talk to the legendary Craig Alexander — 5x World Champ, 3x Kona winner. At 47, Crowie doesn't consider himself retired. (In fact, last year he was still winning the occasional 70.3.) But he's doing it just for fun now and for the love of the sport. The Australian champ talks to us about the changes he made in his training as he got older, what he learned over the years, and if all the technological changes in the sport are good or not. His main bit of advice: Sometimes you just have to batten down the hatches and ride out the storm. And first, we give you a very quick sneak peek at our new gear podcast. The first episode: all about carbon wheels!

Today we're joined on the podcast by 5-time Ironman World Champion, Craig ("Crowie") Alexander. Crowie was the 2008, 2009, 2011 Ironman Triathlon World Champion and previous course record holder (8:03:56 in 2011), and the 2006 (inaugural) and 2011 70.3 World Champion. In 2011 he won both the 70.3 and the full Ironman World Championships. Needless to say - he's a beast, but best of all, he's an absolute gentleman too! Craig was humbled when Ironman legend and six-time World Champion Dave Scott lauded him as “the first true men’s champion the sport has seen in years.” The most important thing to Craig is family. He is beyond proud of his wife (and the love of his life) Nerida, and his three amazing kids, Lucy, Austin and Lani. Everything Craig does starts and ends at home with his family. Crowie’s won a lot of titles over the years but the one he likes best is ‘Daddy’. As an aside from us, we've only met Crowie once face-to-face but recall how genuine and approachable he was and when the opportunity to record this podcast with the great man came up, he didn't hesitate, such is his show of great character - he's very much "the people's champion" as you'll hear in the first 60 second intro. Post-retirement, Craig now runs his highly successful coaching program SansEGO (which basically means "without ego") which we believe, at it's heart, is a philosophy we can all learn from (details at: https://www.sansego.co ). A lot of people talk about “life balance” but Craig really does walk the walk, not just talk the talk and his information from his website below is well worth a deeper dive, especially at this period in time of extreme uncertainty and worry: "His load was extraordinarily heavy but he carried it with methodical focus and balance…and Craig seemed to find more and more comfort with his confidence in simply letting be, be. Alexander’s most impressive talents are not found in his swim, bike, or run competence. Instead, his unique ability to clear the mind’s clutter and make good decisions has been the key ingredient to his success on and off the racecourse. And this key to finding clarity for the 5 x Ironman/70.3 World Champion was getting the life balance right. He put the right people around him and understood that the whole was only stronger than the sum of its parts when the clutter (ego) was removed from the equation." We really hope you enjoy this conversation with Crowie and a big thanks and shout out to Coach Chris Southwell for arranging!

If you made a list of the ten greatest Triathlete’s of all time, I would guess that most people would have my guest, Craig Alexander, on their list somewhere. As a kid growing up in Australia, Triathlon was a national sport, and they athletes racing at the time were household names. And this gentleman was no exception. It’s a lifetime moment for me to be able to have this conversation with Crowie. A 5-time world champion, including 3 victories at the Ironman World Championships in Kona. This is another edition of the Ikor Connected project, which has allowed me to meet and converse with amazing athletes and human beings from around the world, all while under different levels of stay-at-home orders due to the Coronavirus pandemic we are all facing. This is a broad discussion on many things Triathlon related, but also gave me a fantastic insight into Crowie’s life as a dad and partner to Neri, who happens to be on the frontlines dealing with COVID-19 as an emergency room nurse. Thank you to the team at Ikor for the opportunity to have this incredible discussion with a hero of mine. It would mean a lot if you could support them by sending a thumbs up on social for the great work they are doing, and even more impactful by heading to ikorlabs.com and purchasing some of their game-changing CBD products. Right now, you will receive 25% off each and every order. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/innervoiceaudioexperience/message

Welcome to Episode #183 of the Mile High Endurance podcast. You are listening to your weekly connection to coaches, experts and pro athletes to help you reach your endurance goals. We are your hosts coach Rich Soares and 303 Chief Bill Plock. Thanks for joining us for another week of endurance interviews and discussion. This week we have a really interesting discussion for you. Think about the people that have left a legacy in triathlon. Who is the first person who comes to mind? This week we are sharing a panel discussion with 5 athletes who are creating legacies as they continue to race. We have Kyle and Brent Pease (the Pease brothers), Chris McDonald, Craig Alexander (Crowie), and Andrea Ramos. The event was hosted by Newton Running and owner Jerry Lee. It was facilitated by Andrew Maxwell and the central discussion was about what legacy they want to leave in the sport. It's personal for each and we hope you will feel a connection to one or more of these stories. Thanks to last week's guest TO and the breakdown of Ironman Boulder. Training camps can have a substantially positive impact on your training. Surrounding yourself with similarly motivated athletes, eager to learn and train, surrounded by coaches and a series of days of focused training is of course going to result in focused training that will boost your fitness. What is often under appreciated is the knowledge you gain about training and the awareness you achieve with respect to your current training practices and how effective or ineffective they may be. Now we aren't talking about an ordinary training camp today. We are talking about what is arguably the best training camp experience available. We are going to talk to two folks on the staff at SANSEGO (Crowie's coaching company) about an upcoming camp with Crowie and Dr. Max Testa at Park City UT and the camp experience of a lifetime.
Team Shimano athlete Craig "Crowie" Alexander sits down with Angela Naith and Tim DeBoom to talk about the 2018 IronMan World Championship in Kona, HI.
This episode continues our coverage of some of the most epic races on the planet. This week we have repeat top 10 Norseman Xtreme Triathlon finisher Richard Rozok. Many of you will know what makes Norseman an "extreme" triathlon. For those who don't or have never heard of Norseman, you are about to hear a story of an incredibly challenging iron distance race. Norseman is a one of seven Xtri World Tour Xtreme triathlons. At the Sansego Camp this past May, Crowie asked all of the athletes to introduce themselves, their racing experience and race goals for the year. Most of us were referring to 70.3 this and IM that - no big surprises. There was one guy, with a great accent, who casually mentioned that he was planning to race Norseman. There were a handful of us in the room that had audible reactions, including Crowie, Matt Smith and Franko Vatterott. Badwater 135 Ultra-marathon is billed as the "toughest foot race on the planet". With air temperatures reaching a high of 127 degrees and pavement temperatures in the 150s, it's no wonder that only 68 of the 99 racers this year finished. What was not well known until this year's race was Don Reichelt's name. You, however, heard him back in March on the show talk about his selection for Badwater and his plans for training for this ultra tough event. Guess what, this badass got a podium of 3rd place, surprising previous record holders, podium placers, organizers and teams. Were we surprised - hell no! Listen up mountain bikers! Our interview this week is with the professional mountain biker, Ryan Petry. Ryan recently placed a close second at Haute Route Rockies and is racing next weekend at the Leadville 100 MTB race. Thanks to last week's guest, Mark Fleming of iKOR Labs who helped us sort through all of the information about hemp extract, CBD and the benefits that endurance athletes are experiencing. This turned out to be a pretty engaging topic and prompted a couple of good posts, which we'll read out here in a bit. Ryan Petry as you will hear is an axe on the MTB. In 2016, he finished 7th overall at the Leadville 100 MTB with a time of 06:48:54. We are going to talk about his Haute Route Rockies result and much more. Let's get into the interview. Discussion topics: Ryan Petry, Haute Route and Leadville 100 MTB Khem's Donkey DNF and Ranger CBD Discussion Barry Siff - Been using iKOR for about four months now and getting incredible results. CBD (a hemp extract) is not banned by WADA or USADA, and reduces inflammation (noticeably!), thus helping recovery, plus other benefits. Excellent listen here with the Founder, Mark Fleming. Thanks Rich ... and, congrats on the metabolic results with Bob Seebohar! Mitchell Kusick - Thank you for conducting such an informative interview elucidating the benefits (and legality) of CBD in endurance sports! This was one of my favorite episodes as of late as I feel that there are a lot of people interested in this topic... That being said, given that there is a dearth of in-vivo studies supporting the strong anecdotal evidence, would you allow your daughter, as a younger athlete (like myself), to take CBD oil daily as an ergogenic aid? 303 Updates from Bill IM Boulder 70.3 Coverage Upcoming interviews: Don Reichelt and Badwater 135 3rd place. Andrew Talansky and IM Whistler result - fastest bike split, 7th overall Matt Smith on swim workouts designed for specific training goals, swim form, common issues, etc. Cliff Simms - co-founder of Retul and now working with Specialized. We're going to talk to him about the 3D Retul technology and where the product roadmap is heading and how it can help you. Our show is also supported by 303 Endurance Network, which includes 303Triathlon and 303 Cycling, which covers the endurance culture, news and events on triathlon and cycling. Our interview this week is with the Co-founder of iKOR Labs, Mark Fleming. We are going to get your questions answered about CBD. Why are endurance athletes using it? How are they using it? Is it legal? What benefits does it provide? Who's using it? How to take it? Thanks to last week's guests, professional triathlete Timothy O'Donnell. I'm very excited to bring you Mark Fleming and iKOR. When I first discovered iKOR, it was 2017 under the pre 2018 WADA and USADA rules and I honestly decided to not pursue this as a topic for the podcast. I researched the WADA and USADA sites. I researched the USAT position and at that time there was not a clear distinction between THC and CBD. In January of 2018, CBD was removed from the WADA and USADA banned substance list. I got reconnected with Mark Fleming and Craig Sweeney at the Sansego camp here in Boulder. As we talked more and I tried it for myself, I have noticed an incredible difference in my recovery and reduced inflammation most of all. We'll talk more about the resources that we'll make available in the show notes, plus a letter from USADA to a recent athlete who uses iKOR, was on the podium, was tested and the letter from USADA addresses his disclosure of CBD usage and the results of his test declaring him clean from banned substances. Let's get into the interview and talk more after. Our interview this week is with Tim O'Donnell. We have a lot of questions for T.O. about how the prep for Kona is going this year, what it's like balancing the roles of a professional triathlete, husband and relatively new father, we'll talk about the Tim and Rinny You Tube Channel is going, and how his and Rinny's races have gone this year. Thanks to last week's guests, Simone Cordrey-Cotter to talk about Rudy Project's "Podium One" and Alison Freeman of D3 Multisport who talked about how to train for and race in hot conditions. If you missed it, go back and listen to episode #134. Hopefully you are fast enough to win a Boost 01 helmet, but if you're not get a Boost 01 like me and you'll be faster. Being fast on the bike might not be enough in hot conditions. We had lots of great tips on how to be ready for your next hot race. Announcement: Last Friday was Bill's birthday and we did not give him a birthday shout out. Bill, this is your belated birthday shout out! Not that you care because you are having a blast in Canada Salmon fishing! Last week we gave a shout out to Kim Miller. There is no "Kim" Miller. There is however an "Amy" Miller. I have no good explanation for how that happened. It was in the show notes incorrectly despite having previously connected with Amy on Facebook and Instagram. She sent me a very nice message last Monday bringing the error to my attention and immediately I had a flashback to the thought occurring to me on Saturday night. It's funny how the subconscious knew there was something wrong when it hadn't occurred to me consciously. Interview: Timothy O’Donnell is one of the world’s most successful and experienced American long-course triathletes. As a professional, he has earned 50+ podium finishes including over 22 wins at major events throughout the world. Among the wins are nine Ironman 70.3 victories, three 140.6 wins, and six Armed Forces National Championships. At the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, Timothy finished 6th in 2016, 3rd in 2015, and 5th in 2013, finishing as top American in 2013 & 2015. In 2013, he tied the existing American IRONMAN record with an 8:01:32 victory at IRONMAN Brazil. In 2015 at IRONMAN Brazil, he completed his fastest IRONMAN to date at 7:55:56. He was the IRONMAN 70.3 US Pro Champion in 2012 and the IRONMAN US Pro Champion in 2011. O’Donnell’s sporting career began when he joined his first swim team at the age of five in Roseville, CA. He began to shine in the pool during his high school years while attending Wyoming Seminary Prep (SEM) in Kingston, Pennsylvania. At SEM O’Donnell was captain of the varsity swim team, set multiple school records and earned repeated district championships and all-state honors. O’Donnell then attended the United States Naval Academy (BS Naval Architecture, 2003) where he swam on the Varsity team for two seasons before fully committing to the sport of triathlon. As a triathlete, O’Donnell led the Naval Academy Men’s Team to two US National Triathlon Championship titles. He attended UC Berkeley (MSEng Ocean Engineering, 2005) as a Navy Ensign during which time he won the 2003 U.S. Under-23 National Championships and his first of six consecutive Armed Forces Triathlon Championships. In 2007 O’Donnell was assigned to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He earned spots on the US National Team and World Championships Team in 2007 and 2008,was the ITU Long Distance World Champion in 2009, and was named USAT’s Non-Drafting Triathlete of the Year in 2009, 2010, and 2015. Our interviews this week - that's right we have two interviews this week. Interview #1 is with Simone Cordrey-Cotter to talk about Rudy Project's "Podium One" and how they are rewarding the fastest N. American Ironman finishers. We also have coach Alison Freeman of D3 Multisport joining us today to talk about how to train for and race in hot conditions. It's too late for our hot June and early July races, but in the northern hemisphere late July and August..even September can deliver some super-hot conditions. We're going to tell you how to get ready! Thanks to last week's guest, Strava Co-founder Michael Horvath. If you missed it, go back and listen to episode #133. Interview 1: Simone Cordrey-Cotter is the marketing and PR manager with Rudy Project North America and she happens to live here locally with Khem and me. She has been a long-time friend of the show and a former guest. We get to chat with Simone about a new program they have titled Podium One. Rudy Project is going to be rewarding the fastest Ironman athletes in N. America with Rudy's fastest race helmet and glasses. Let's go to that interview right now. It's a short discussion, so don't go anywhere. You'll want to stick around for our feature interview to follow. https://www.rudyprojectna.com/pages/project-podium Transition: Pretty cool reward if you are a super-fast Ironman age-grouper. The Boost 1 is a sweet looking helmet and Tralyx sunglasses are sweet as well! If you don't think you are fast enough to win a free helmet and glasses, well don't fret. We have a discount code for you that's going to get you 30% of the way to owning a pair. Use the code MHE 30 at checkout. Okay, let's get serious about hot races shall we? We have Alison Freeman of D3 Multisport to talk to us about training for and racing in hot conditions. Let's go to the feature interview now and we'll be back with you after you are a more informed athlete! Khem and Rich discussion on training and racing in the heat. Without Limits Productions' Boulder Peak race How was Old Stage after doing Pikes Peak on Wednesday and Squaw Pass on Saturday (the day before the Peak)? Jenn Finley's friend and first time Olympic distance racer and podium placer Kim Miller Rip Laces These are a quick lace for getting your running shoes fast in transition. You know how crazy obsessed I am with fast transitions and Rip laces perform terrifically. I first was introduced to them at the Sansego camp with Craig Alexander and Matt Smith. Crowie gave all the campers a welcome bag with samples of some of Crowie's favorite products. They included a sample of Hot Shot and custom Rip Laces, among other things. Now custom Riplaces are not something just anyone can get. If you go to the website, you can pick your color, but you cannot order custom riplaces. It was fun to not only be one of the very few people racing in riplaces, but to be sporting the Sansego custom branded ones at that. We're going to put a pin in the topic of custom riplaces for a few minutes while I describe what these are. Description - the lace is called a "bungee" and it looks and performs a lot like a hair band. You thread one folded end of the band lace through one eyelet of the pair and the other folded end through the other side of the eyelet pair. You can order bands in a variety of sizes or what I have is the variety size pack. A typical running shoe will have about 7 pairs of eyelets, so you only need 7. But the variety pack comes with 5 different sizes and 10 bands bungees of each size. You then have these things called "cores", but they look like small rectangular badges with slots to snap the bungee loop ends on each the sides of the core. There are 4 different types of cores (skinnies, olyvia, mini skull/crossbones). As I mentioned earlier, each the cores and the bungees can be ordered in a variety of colors and the core in one of three forms. Well I love the Sansego ones so much, I decided to buy another set for another pair of running shoes. So I picked out the bungee and core colors that would make my shoes pop. When they arrived, the good folks at Riplaces included a few samples of custom cores with the MHE logo and they look awesome. They did them in both the skull/crossbones and the skinnies. Khem, they are going to make custom MHE cores for us and guess what? I'm ordering a set for each you and Bill. Guess what else? They are going to create a special link for our listeners to order their own. Upcoming interviews: I mentioned a few weeks ago that I saw Timothy O'Donnell at the CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center. He's clearly working with some of the best resources around. We are going to be catching up with T.O. to talk about how his season is going, what's going on in his training. Mark Fleming from Ikor Labs is going to join us to talk about the status of CBD oil and triathlon. A lot of triathletes (pro and age groupers) are using cbd where available to help with recovery. CBD does not get you high but has several health and recovery properties and benefits. Craig Sweeney from Ikor Labs was helping SAG on the Sansego rides and I got to chat with him a bit. We are going to get some of the latest on legislation, WADA and USADA stances on CBD. 303 Our show is also supported by 303 Endurance Network, which includes 303Triathlon and 303 Cycling, which covers the endurance culture, news and events on triathlon and cycling. We are back after Macca's travels around Europe and the US with Superleague. The good thing? We have lots to discuss as we sink our teeth into the recent drafting controversy around IM Texas. Chris gives his thoughts on how we can resolve the growing problem with short, over-crowded courses. We also discuss a whole range of results including IM South Africa, WTS Bermuda, 70.3 Oceanside and Crowie's impressive result in China. We specifically talk about the domination Frodo demonstrated at Oceanside, Lucy Charles' performance in South Africa, swimming faster than most of the male pros and the impressive racing from the Commonwealth Games. We also discuss when is it ok for Macca to make a comeback to racing? As a former pro who loves the sport, is there ever a time where he would be able to come back and race as an age grouper without being lynched by the masses? We make a number of announcements for MaccaX including new team sponsors, coaches and upcoming camps. Sanders has worked on his weaknesses, improved swim with Gerry Rodriguez Tim Don's 70.3 Worlds performance (3rd) was done off an Ironman build; able to drop the fast boys and strong at finish Ben Hoffman, Brent McMahon Kona doesn't seem to have depth, unlike back in Macca's day four previous champions were racing the field every year (Faris, Stadler, Crowie, Macca) plus Raelert and Chris Lieto; pressure was on defending champion to dictate the pace Women's side, Ryf to dominate completely with Crowley as potential challenger -- could Ryf be better than Chrissie? Macca and MG with a live studio audience present a podcast reviewing the latest racing from the Southern Hemisphere including IMNZ, Husky Long course, Challenge Philippines and Devonport Tri. First up Ironman New Zealand taken out by Marko Albert with a cracking second place to legend Cam Brown and a solid third from MaccaX friend Terenzo Bozzone. The guys discuss the DNF from ‘supermodel' Bevan Docherty. The girls' race was won in record time by Meredith Kessler. MG asks if this has motivated Macca…. Next up Husky Long Course in NSW, Australia taken out by a very in form Pete Jacobs. Solid performances from other Aussies, Tim Reed and Sam Appleton with the girls' race taken out by Liz Blatchford. Macca told us of his Challenge Philippines experience where even getting behind a tuk tuk didn't help. Is this the hardest race in the Southern Hemisphere? Macca mixed with royalty when the royal princes of Bahrain raced at the Challenge event. Devenport used to be one of the must do races in Australia – Macca infamously got banned from this race…….back in the day! The experts then cast their eyes over the upcoming events, notably IM Melbourne and Abu Dhabi. Will Crowie win Melbourne, can Supermodel finish the race? Abu Dhabi short course will feature the Brownlee brothers. Macca spoke about his upcoming plans – he's off to Carnivale in Rio with Michael Phelps but before that he'll be doing a charity ride in the UAE . The heir to the Bahrain throne is swimming from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain – a cool 34km and Chris is joining on this crazy endeavor. Other news: Camps are now on the website www.maccax.com/camps Places will fill fast…. Macca shoots a commercial for Under Armour's launch in Australia with Rebel Sport. The guys finish up with questions from the facebook group and Big Ring gets on the line…. Please take the time to leave a review on itunes. Show Notes: THE PROS Macca as we know is not racing due to glandular fever. MG and Macca sit down and talk all things Kona – who are their picks? How will the race pan out at the big dance? Both agree Pete Jacobs is looking in great form having decimated the field in Sunshine Coast 70.3 including swimming with and over Clayton Fettell. A lot will depend on the bike. The benefit of riding in the front pack on the bike has been calculated by Aaron Hersh as 4.30mins Can the 2.40 marathon be beaten – maybe Pete Jacobs or Crowie both capable. The guys talked about how Pete Jacobs will cope in a less than perfect race and will Crowie miss his old nemesis, Macca? THE GIRLS Excited – two years since Chrissie Wellington retired. Leanda Cave won last year and is everything CW was. Now it's time to stand up to win. Rachel Joyce – hard to beat – hasn't raced a lot this year Caroline Steffen – amazing form – fell apart last year scared to win Yvonne Van Vlerken – also up there for third Mirinda Carfrae – for third The talk on the island is always about the weather and of course it will be hot and windy! Prepare for the worst ride 808's. MG and Macca discuss how so many people are out training in the heat – it's in the bank, don't bother. Macca will be attending the TGINR party hosted by Bob Babbitt. MG – talked about the race management at Kona – no support provided for the pro's – or not enough. What difference would it make? The sport hasn't evolved enough. Rules need to progress. HOW SHOULD THE AGE GROUPER APPROACH THE RACE? Heart rate can be deceiving due to the heat. You need a plan particularly a marathon plan. Run lower tyre pressure. Get it into your head – it's going to be uncomfortable. EMBRACE THE SUCK Drink water not the Gatorade on the course – salt tabs for electrolytes. Gatorade makes you thirsty. 1L per hour. Be flexible in your nutrition during the race. Roll with the punches during the run. Great book – Waterlogged by Tim Noakes MG and Macca talked about Thanyapura in Thailand and what a great training facility especially for Kona prep. QUESTION TIME • When will Challenge run a World Championship? • St George Bank Series - how to run it – build a festival and they will come • How to keep weight on during training? • One piece of advice for your A race? Interesting fact – 1 in 5 do not qualify for Kona – such as celebrities… Twitter tags: @petejjacobs, @timdeboom, @CrowieAlexander, @claytonfettell, @Andy_Potts, @raelertbrothers, @BinkMarino, @TriathleteTech, @MarkAllenOnline, @DaveScott6x, @zcoaching, @reid6peter, @normans, @SebastianKienle, @lukemckenzie, @rappstar, @JimmyRiccitello, @bevanjdocherty, @enekollanos, @Terenzo1, @Faris_Al_Sultan, @TOinTri, @Bob_Babbitt, @chrissiesmiles, @leandacave, @RJoyce09, @Mirindacarfrae, @Caroline_Xena, @yvonnevlerken, @steve_mona, @dirkbockel, @ronnieschildknecht, @bartaernouts, @rebekahkeat, @jodieswallow, @VesterbyTri, @marybethellis, @IronmanTri, @LucVanLierde, @ProfTimNoakes, @David_Dellow, @GordonRamsay, @onedirection
