Kendrick Johnson attended his first three periods of high school in Valdosta, GA on January 10, 2013. However, he would not make it through that day alive, yet he never left the grounds of his high school. He was found almost 24 hours later, in one of the gyms. His body was upside down in a rolled up wrestling mat that was standing up vertically. After a decade of investigation, 2 exhumations, 3 autopsies and the case being closed and then reopened again, Kendrick's cause of death has still been ruled accidental. Kendrick's family continues to fight for the truth and for someone to be held responsible for the death of their son because the circumstances around his death are far too suspicious and the investigation has had way too many inconsistencies to be ignored. A young man went to school and was not safe, period. He went to school and died. This is never ok under any circumstances, accident or no accident. Join us as we discuss the tragic death of a young man taken from this earth way too soon and please watch the documentary that Molly references - Finding Kendrick Johnson by Jason Pollock.Other References:Papa Doug's Album!https://augustwolf.hearnow.com/?fbclid=IwAR3CB5aJIgREQcxzZP8LPFZ9rEWKqWkR82t1dojcrmC8cnJS6epaGXHR6HU

13 Lives in 12 Minutes - The Tragedy on River Road

On September 6, 1949, in just 12 minutes, 13 lives were lost to a mass shooter on River Road in Camden, NJ. Unlike today, mass shootings were not a regular event that was normalized on the news. In a post World War II era, automatic guns were relatively new and held mostly for military use, not often seen in public. However, on this day, the mundane activities of a Tuesday morning were interrupted by gun fire as a World War II veteran walked down the street that he lived on and fired upon his own neighbors' homes and businesses. This case has been coined as America's first mass shooting, and the shooter, as the first "lone wolf"type shooter. These terms may be common today, but this type of event was unprecendented at the time. However it will go to show that more than 70 years later, our country has not made much progress in our prevention of these types of such occurrences and the devastation that it brings to not only the victims, but families of the victims, the survivors and the communities at large. After being lured out of her home by four older teenage girls, Shanda Sharer, only 12 years old, was brutalized for more than 9 hours until her death the following morning on January 11, 1992. The death of a child never makes sense. The death of a child at the hands of individuals who are all still children as well, between the ages of 15 and 17, makes even less sense. In her short time on earth, Shanda brought light into this world and had an energy that attracted others to her and she was willing to be a friend to all. She was not allowed to share all that she had to offer in its full capacity because her life was cut short by the acts of four others... three that had never even met her. This case is baffling... because we all ask why? Even to this day... why? And there will never be any solid answers. All we can do is hope for some kind of positive actions by the perpetrators moving forward.References & Resources:to train dogs in Shanda's name. Sextortion is another online danger and has only recently been recognized by law as a crime. In 2011, the internet was booming and more people were using social media sites than ever. This increase in online activity opened up many to online predators. Between 2011 and 2016, Ryan Vallee used social media to harass, cyberstalk and obtain nude photos of his victims, teenage girls, through sextortion tactics.  However his case is not an isolated incident and this is a prevalent threat online. A 31 year old Florida man named Lucas Chansler was arrested in relation to his online criminal activities . He had nearly 350 victims that spanned over 26 of the states in the US, in Canada and Great Britain. When arrested, he had 80,000 photos and videos in the library of media that he coerced from his victims. Only just about 100 of his victims have been identified, which leaves a lot of room for this investigation to remain open. PROMO -  Beyond The Rainbow - True Crimes of the LGBT (Darkcast Network)References & Resources:For Help or More information regarding Sextortion go to Stop Sextortion - Yup. Long Lake in Union County, South Carolina. She claimed to have been carjacked while driving her 2 young sons, Michael and Alexander, who were taken along with the car. This escalated the situation and quickly, not only the County was called in to help on this case, but the FBI and the Adam Walsh Foundation. Media attention on this case spread like rapid fire, where was the car and, more importantly, where were the kids?!? Susan Smith tells an unlikely story and then changes her story of the events of that evening. Susan's estranged husband and the father of the two children, David Smith, was cleared very quickly by the police... The same couldn't be said for Susan.References & Resources:

Dawn Viens was a 39-year-old married woman who was reported missing by her sister and some friends on November 18, 2009. You got that right, her husband didn't report her missing, but her friends and family did. She had last been seen on October 18, 2009. The reason that a month had passed between her last being seen and reported missing is that her husband David would always have excuses on where Dawn was.  This woman, seemed to be setting herself up to be able to escape this abusive relationship, but before she is able to do so, her life was taken. Ultimately, David does confess to the murder of his wife, but only after attempting to end his own life. However, David survives, but sustains severe injuries. At trial, he blames these injuries as the reason for his confessions to killing Dawn and claims to not remember meeting with investigators for such confessions. Join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/overthefenceCheck us out on Social Media:Instagram: @overthefence_podcastTwitter: @OverThe FencePod

On June 25, 2005, George Smith and Jennifer Hagel were married before embarking on a 12 day Mediterranean Honeymoon Cruise. It was a few days into the cruise, the morning of July 5th, after a night/early morning of partying when George Smith is nowhere to be found aboard the cruise ship. But what was found was a large blood stain on the awning below the newlywed's cabin. An excursion that was supposed to celebrate their marriage ended up being memorable for a much different reason, George Smith would never be seen again. The investigation of George's disappearance and ultimately being pronounced deceased  involved the cruise ship's internal investigation, Turkish authorities and the FBI. However even with all of these police resources and attention, the case remains a mystery. References & Resources:48 Hours episode "Murder at Sea?" originally aired on May 11, 2013.https://www.local10.com/news/local/2020/09/11/mans-overboard-death-may-be-linked-to-davie-unsolved-murder/https://www.newstimes.com/news/article/New-details-in-Greenwich-man-s-2005-cruise-ship-2444582.phphttps://www.cbsnews.com/news/fbi-closes-probe-into-vanished-cruise-ship-honeymooner/
