Send us a Text Message. In February 2010, the McStay family—Joseph, Summer, and their two young children, Gianni and Joseph Jr.—vanished without a trace from their home in Fallbrook, California. Their disappearance quickly became one of the most perplexing and chilling mysteries of the decade. The McStays seemed to lead a normal life, running a small business and living in a modest home. But on February 4th, the family's sudden and unexplained disappearance set off alarm bells. The last known sighting of them was captured on a security camera of their car leaving their driveway. Months passed, and the case grew colder. Speculation ranged from theories of a financial dispute gone awry to potential connections with criminal networks. The McStay family's sudden and eerie silence left investigators grasping for answers. Then, in November 2013, the case took a harrowing twist. CW: This case deals with sexual assault, murder, spousal abuse, suicidal ideation, and dismemberment of a human body, so please take care when listening. Wayne Adam Ford turned himself into police at the urging of his brother in November of 1998 - by this time he had already killed at least four women and assaulted many others. His tears and apparent guilt about his crimes earned him the press moniker "the serial killer with a conscience" - we don't think he's that at all. These are the crimes of Wayne Adam Ford. The MacNeill family was thought to have it all together. Martin was a prominent doctor, lawyer, pastor and family man. Michele was a loving, kind, patient mother to eight children, four of which were adopted. From the outside, to strangers, many believed they'd had the perfect family. Those who knew them has other feelings, and they believed that Martin wasn't being faithful to his family, mainly his wife. Denise and Aaron were then forced to take sedatives, and Denise was given the instruction to tie up her boyfriend, Aaron. Aaron was then escorted down to the couch, and Denise was taken out of the house and loaded into the trunk of the car. When Aaron came to the next day and called the police, the Vallejo, California police did not buy his story. This week Kelsie walks us through the Vampire of Sacramento, a man named Richard Chase who terrorized a suburban community in California in the 70's. Richard Chase was a paranoid schizophrenic who tried to get help for his mental health problems, but had a family blocking his way with denial. Six people lost their lives to the hands of Richard, and countless more were impacted by the terror and evil that he left behind. In 1906, a trunk was found on the platform of the Southern Pacific Depot in Stockton, California. The smell led employees to wonder what, or who, might be inside. Within hours, the police were on the hunt for Emma LeDoux, a woman with a trail of (mostly living) men behind her. Though she was the last person to see the unfortunate victim, Albert McVicar, she will cling to innocence. An impromptu conversation about the recent murder of Sarah Everard and how it relates to violent crimes perpetrated by police in America. California True Crime discusses the issues that have been highlighted by this murder and connections to the Cara Knott case covered in an earlier episode, as well as some startling statistics on the rates of violence against women by police officers in uniform and some of the systemic issues that are in place that act as a roadblock to studying, and ultimately stopping these types of crimes. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/sarah-everard-case-shows-society-s-rules-women-don-t-ncna1261298Website and show notes: http://www.californiatruecrime.comIf you would like to support us we have a Patreon page at: https://www.patreon.com/californiatruecrimeFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/calitruecrimeTwitter: https://twitter.com/calitruecrimeInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/calitruecrime
According to legend in Ventura County lives a terrifying monster who roams the countryside preying on hikers and teens. This monster of myth is half man half goat and created in a mad scientist's secret government laboratory deep in the underground tunnel that lay beneath a bucolic dairy along a deserted country road deep in Ventura County. Meant to be a super soldier in World War II, this monstrous creation broke loose from his creators and has violently stalked humanity ever since. In this episode of California True Crime we talk about the myth of the Billiwhack Monster and the history of the man who supposedly created him.Website and show notes: http://www.californiatruecrime.com/If you would like to support us we have a Patreon page at: https://www.patreon.com/californiatruecrimeFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/calitruecrime/Twitter: https://twitter.com/calitruecrimeInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/calitruecrime/

On Sept 17th, 2006, Fourpeaked Mountain in Alaska erupts marking the first eruption for the long-dormant volcano in at least 10,00 years. Also an audio tape of a private speech by Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány is leaked to the public in which he confessed that his Hungarian Socialist Party had lied to win the 2006 election sparking widespread protests across the country. But in the evening on this date, in a small unincorporated community of riverside county, three people lost their lives to what looked at first to be a fire of accidental nature. Upon further investigation we see a horrendous triple homicide that would not have full closure until twelve years later.
